Blanche Berry, 95, Coeburn, Va.
COEBURN, Va. - Blanche Smith Berry, 95, passed away Saturday (March 16, 2002) at Norton Community Hospital, Norton, Va.
A resident of Coeburn for 62 years, she was a dearly-loved Christian mother and homemaker. She was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert J. Berry.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Barbara Vicars and her husband David, of Taylor, Mich.; three granddaughters, Sherry and husband Richard, Vicky and husband Doug, and Sandy; and five great-grandchildren, Kristina, Derrick, Austin, Madelyn and Kean.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Sturgill Funeral Home, Coeburn, Va.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Marty Puckett officiating.
Burial will follow in the Smith-Gilliam Cemetery, Wise, Va.

Mallie Carroll, 91, Gate City, Va.
GATE CITY, Va. - Graveside services for Mallie Marie Carroll, 91, Route 3, who died Saturday (March 16, 2002), will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at Holston View Cemetery. The family will be meeting at the funeral home at 12 noon to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be nephews.
Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., is in charge of the arrangements.

Ressie S. Crawford, 71, Kingsport.
Graveside services for Ressie S. Crawford, 71, Kingsport, who passed away Saturday (March 16, 2002), will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Oak Hill Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m.
Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown, is serving the Crawford family.

Alma Curtis, 83, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Alma Bennett Curtis, 83, went to be with the Lord Sunday (March 17, 2002) at her residence.
Born in Washington County, Tenn., she lived in Kingsport most of her life. She was a member of North Kingsport Church of God and had attended the Father's House in recent years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Curtis; three brothers, Irlie Bennett, Erman Bennett and Clarence Bennett.
Surviving are one daughter, Wilma Poore, Kingsport; two sons, Paul E. Curtis and Allen Curtis, both of Kingsport; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; one sister, Melba Biles, Kingsport; one brother, Theodore Bennett, Jonesborough; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at Mrs. Curtis' residence.
Calling hours will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, downtown.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. David Atkinson officiating.
Burial will follow in the Eden's Cemetery, Jonesborough.
Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Wellmont Hospice Program, P.O. Box 238, Kingsport, Tenn. 37662.

Mary B. Eanes, 85, Blountville.
BLOUNTVILLE - Mary Barger Eanes, 85, went peacefully to be with the Lord Saturday (March 16, 2002) at Indian Path Medical Center after a period of declining health.
Born June 6, 1916, Mary was a native and lifelong resident of Sullivan County. She was a daughter of the late Jacob T. and Mary Martha (Jones) Barger. She was retired from the Sullivan County Food Services as manager of the Blountville Middle School cafeteria after 15 years of service.
She was a member of the Blountville United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Sam Eanes, who passed away September 17, 1965, preceded her in death.
Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Christine and Park Grant of Blountville, Susanne and Buddy Williams of Kingsport, Martha and Larry Elam of Blountville; a son and daughter-in-law, Harry and Margaret Eanes of Blountville; grandchildren, Melissa Grant Wilmoth and husband Steve of Kingsport, Alicia Grant of Blountville, Kimberly Eanes Bellamy and her husband Dave of Blountville, Spec. 4 Brandon Eanes with the U.S. Army, Honolulu, Hawaii, Michael Elam of Knoxville and Mary Beth Elam of Johnson City; great-grandchildren, Morgan Wilmoth and Grant Wilmoth and an unborn great-grandson; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert Eanes and wife Kittie, Ruth Warrick and Viola Barger; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the East Lawn Funeral Home and anytime at the home of the children.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the chapel of the funeral home with John Banks and the Rev. John Anderson officiating.
Family and friends will meet for a graveside service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Immanuel Cemetery, Central Heights Road, Blountville.
Pallbearers will be John Eanes, John Ross, Bob Jones, Doctor Allen Jones, Jimmy Stidham, Ron Baker, Lawrence Garland and Tony Blackburn.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Banks, Phil White, JC Akard, Obie Carrier, Fred Harr, David Kinkead, E.B. Henry, Gary Wininger and Clarence Blackburn.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Blountville United Methodist Church for the building fund, P.O. Box 686, Blountville, Tenn., or the Immanuel Lutheran Church for the cemetery fund, 191 Central Heights Road, Blountville, Tenn.

Bernard Lewis Fritz, 49, Dungannon, Va.
DUNGANNON, Va. - Bernard Fritz, 49, entered into rest Saturday (March 16, 2002) at his residence.
Born April 10, 1952 in West Virginia, he was a son of the late Barney Lewis and Elizabeth Graham Fritz Fields.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers.
Mr. Fritz served in Vietnam with the U.S. Army.
Surviving are a companion, Dena Jordan, Dungannon, Va.; a daughter, Kimberly Diane Fritz, Dungannon, Va.; a son, Morgan Joe Fritz, Dungannon, Va.; six sisters, Ester Fields, Welcome, N.C., Agnes Decker, Denton, N.C., Beverly Mullins, St. Paul, Va., Alice Niece, Peggy Oquinn and Sharon Niece, all of Denton, N.C.; three brothers, Barney Fritz, Thomasville, N.C., Roy Fritz, Carolina, and Fred Fields, Lexington, N.C.; 19 nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Juanita Falin Chapel of the Gate City Funeral Home with the Rev. James Mann officiating.
Military rites will be conducted by the Charles DeWitt Byrd Post No. 3382 of the VFW.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the children.

Sandra Marie Hoard, 41, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Ms. Sandra Marie Hoard, 41, 223 Carver St., departed this life unexpectedly Saturday (March 16, 2002) from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Survivors and arrangements will follow.

Paul C. Lane, 55, Gate City, Va.
GATE CITY, Va. - Military graveside services for Paul Charles Lane, 55, who entered into rest Thursday (March 14, 2002), will be at 11 a.m. today at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va., conducted by Charles DeWitt Byrd Post No. 3382 of the VFW. The family will be meeting at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be William Bishop, Ken Ervin, Ben Head, Lowell Campbell, Scott Sheridan, Glenn Perry, J.L. Rhoton and Michael Bishop.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jessie Jones, Men at Quebecor and Men of Daniel Boone Baptist Church.
Gate City Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Thelma Laws, 88, Weber City, Va.
WEBER CITY, Va. – Services for Thelma Laws, 88, who entered into rest Friday (March 15, 2002), will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the Gate City Funeral Home with the Rev. Wrightly Salling officiating.
Calling hours are from 12:30 to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Ina F. Poe, 85, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Ina F. Poe, 85, died at 1 p.m. Sunday (March 17, 2002) at Wexford House.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Doris Bolton Poe, Kingsport, and Bill and Barbara Gentry Poe, Stone Mountain, Ga.; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Arrangements will be announced later by Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes.

Fannie I. Pratt, 81, Ft. Myers, Fla.
FT. MYERS, Fla. - Fannie Irene Pratt passed away Friday (March 15, 2002) at the Tandem Health Care Center after a period of declining health.
Fannie was born December 15, 1920 and was a daughter of the late Henry and Julia Davis of Mount Carmel. She was married to the late Rev. Walter Ray Pratt.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Ann Light and husband Charles of Cape Coral, Fla.; son and daughter-in-law, David Ray Pratt and wife Karen of Cape Coral, Fla.; two granddaughters; one great-grandson and one great-granddaughter; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen Leonard and husband Walter of Canton, N.C., Edna Arnold and husband Howard of Mount Carmel; one brother and sister-in-law, John Davis and wife Mary of Perry Hall, Md.; and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the East Lawn Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Gary Gerhardt officiating.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the East Lawn Memorial Park.

Polly Sartain, 81, Kingsport.
A memorial service for Polly Sartain, 81, Kingsport, who died Friday (March 15, 2002), will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at First Broad Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jack Edwards and the Rev. Caryl Griffin officiating.
The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the church.

Juanita Sims, 94, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Mrs. Juanita Sims, 94, 139 Maple Oak Lane, departed this life Saturday (March 16, 2002) at Wilcox Hall-Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Friends may call at 958 Dale St., the residence of a son, Mr. Robert Johnson.
Arrangements and other surviving information will follow.

Myrtle Starnes Smith, 93, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Myrtle Starnes Smith, 93, of 932 Union St., went to be with the Lord at 1 a.m. Sunday (March 17, 2002) at her residence.
She was born in North Carolina but had lived in Kingsport since an early age. She was a housewife, and a loving mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.
Mrs. Smith was of the Baptist faith and attended Union Street Church and also Lynn Garden Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Grover Starnes; second husband, Ed H. Smith; her parents, Adam and Ola Holifield Carver; five brothers, Granville, Bob, Fred, Bill and Brisco Carver; two stepsons, Lawrence Ola Starnes and Hobert Starnes; one stepdaughter, Juanita Smith Brown.
Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Hazel McConnell and Ms. Margaret Osborne, both of Kingsport; two stepsons, James M. Starnes, Blountville, and Lawrence Smith, Kingsport; two stepdaughters, Mildred Starnes Boyd, Church Hill, and Edna Poston, Kingsport; seven grandchildren, Dennis Osborne, Connie Cash, Gale Osborne, Mark Osborne, Gary McConnell, Phil McConnell and Bob McConnell; 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport.
Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Gale Hartley and the Rev. F.M. Brown officiating.
Music will be provided by Eddie Trent and his wife.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jack May and Jamie Austin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lynn Garden Baptist Church (youth fund), 301 May St., Kingsport, Tenn. 37665.

Faith Stansberry, infant, Gate City, Va.
GATE CITY, Va. - Faith Lynn Stansberry, infant daughter of Leslie Matthew and Krystal Stansberry, entered into rest Friday (March 15, 2002) at Indian Path Medical Center.

Diana Wallen, 64, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Diana May Crawford Wallen, 64, died Saturday (March 16, 2002) at Indian Path Medical Center.
Diana was born on February 25, 1938 in Ottowa County, Ohio, but resided most of her life in Church Hill and Kingsport.
She was of the Holiness faith, serving as minister and Sunday School teacher.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lisa K. Nibert.
Survivors include her daughter, Deborah Pressley (Jerry) of Landrum, S.C.; sons, Marvin Crawford (Teresa), Kingsport, Jeff Wallen (Kathy), Church Hill, Ivan Wallen, Church Hill, and Earl Wallen, Church Hill; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Peggy Gonzaleous, Margie Edwards, Rose Ramey, Mary and Bertha Smith; brother, Dave Smith; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Hill Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Hill Cemetery with Pastor Steve Hooper officiating.
