Services for Clarene Julia Dougherty Addington, 92, Route 1, Nickelsville, Va., who departed this life Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 11, 2000) will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in the chapel of Scott County Funeral Home with Elder Echol Head, the Rev. Raymond Amos and the Rev. Danny Sykes officiating.
Burial will follow in the Dougherty Family Cemetery near Addington Frame.
Pallbearers will be Bob Surber, Paul Addington, Darrell Dougherty, Benny Castle, Larry Moore and Jack Stallard.
Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Kilgore, Randy Moore, Anthony Laney, Gary Addington and Norman Addington.

Roy L. Bailey
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Roy L. Bailey, 70, Chesapeake Road, died Wednesday (Oct. 11, 2000).
He was a retired Command Sgt. Major in the Special Forces, receiving the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Air Medal and numerous other medals while serving in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucille (Ludie) Long Bailey; a daughter, Teresa Ann McIntyre; and his parents, William Dana and Allene White Bailey.
Surviving are his wife, Cheryllee Bailey; a son, James E. Bailey, of the home; a daughter, Gina Bailey Jourden; two grandchildren, Brennan McIntyre, Greeneville and Bailey Jourden, Fayetteville, N.C.; two sisters, Elizabeth (Betty) Bailey, Greeneville and Jane B. Maxson, Zephyrhills, Fla.; a brother, Robert H. Bailey, Greeneville; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Don Alexander officiating.
Burial will be in the Hardins Chapel Cemetery with the VFW Post 1990 in charge of graveside services.
Memorial contributions may be made to Locust Springs Christian Retreat, 1505 W. Main St., Greeneville, Tenn. 37743 or the charity of one's choice.
Pallbearers will be his nephews and family members.

Margie Blevins
PENNVILLE, Ind. - Margie Blevins, 88, a resident of Millers Merry Manor Nursing Center, Dunkirk, Ind., and former resident of 260 East Bridge St., Pennville, Ind., died early Friday afternoon (Oct. 13, 2000) in the Caylor-Nickel Medical Center, Bluffton, Ind.
She was co-owner and operator of the Pennville Northside Cafe in Pennville, Ind. with her husband for many years. She was a member of the Pennville American Legion Auxiliary.
She was born March 1, 1912 in Wise County, Va., the daughter of Charles and Eliza (Mooris) Moore. She was married Feb. 1, 1942 to James C. Blevins, who died Feb. 15, 1998.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald C. Blevins and wife, Carol, Bluffton, Ind., Thomas L. Blevins and wife, Karen, Montpelier, Ind., and J. Wayne Blevins and wife, Dot, Pennville, Ind.; three sisters, Virgie Garrison, Big Stone Gap, Va., Elise Miller and Velma Wilson, both of Kingsport; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours are from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday in the Pennville Chapel of Williamson & Spencer Funeral Homes, Pennville, Ind.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in the Pennville Chapel with the Rev. Bob Heimach and Jeff Thayer officiating.
Burial will follow in the IOOF (Twin Hills) Cemetery East of Pennville, Ind.

Scott Compton
GREENEVILLE - Scott Compton, 28, 430 Jackson Lane West, died Thursday (Oct. 12, 2000) at Greene Valley Development Center as the result of an automobile accident.
He was born in Greeneville, lived most of his life in Kingsport and recently returned to Greeneville.
Mr. Compton graduated from Sullivan South High School and was an employee of Hog Wild Saloon.
Surviving are his wife, Jamie April Compton; a daughter, Olivia LeAnn Compton; two sons, Cody Scott Compton, all of the home and Steven Steadman, Kingsport; his mother and stepfather, Jenny and George Morelock, Kingsport; his father, Billy J. Compton, Kingsport; sisters, Tracy Cavin, Rogersville and Cheryl Compton, Kingsport; step-sister, Kim Morelock, Kingsport; brothers, Carl Penley, Fall Branch and Leslie Compton, Bristol, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Oak Hill Funeral home and anytime at the residence of 928 Tip Top Avenue, Kingsport.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Louis Meade and the Rev. Harold Head officiating.
Interment will be at Pine Grove Church Cemetery in Greene County.

Betty H. Easley
KINGSPORT - Betty H. Easley, 69, went to be with the Lord Tuesday (Oct. 10, 2000).
Betty was an accomplished artist and a member of the First Baptist Church in Kingsport.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Alma (Olson) Human; two brothers and one sister.
Surviving are her husband, Lynn Easley, Kingsport; one daughter, Judith Taylor, Johnson City; one sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Charles Kidd, Chattanooga; one granddaughter, Jennifer Taylor, Johnson City.
Graveside services will be conducted today at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens with the Rev. Tommy Holzclaw officiating.
Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown is in charge of arrangements.

Brenda Kay Gocio
FALL BRANCH - Services for Brenda Kay Gocio, 35, 1768 Hwy. 93, who died at 5:35 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 11, 2000) will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the Fall Branch Chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes with the Rev. Victor Wallace officiating.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Fall Branch Chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Sunday in the Tri-Cities Memory Gardens.
Those planning to attend the graveside will meet at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Sunday.

KINGSPORT - John Coolidge Jones, 76, died Friday (Oct. 13, 2000).

John Kensinger Jr.
SURGOINSVILLE - John P. Kensinger Jr., 81, 106 Kensinger St., died Friday (Oct. 13, 2000) at Veterans Administration Hospital, Johnson City, after an extended illness.
He was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Surgoinsville.
Mr. Kensinger was a retired heavy equipment mechanic and a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert P. and Lena Fudge Kensinger Sr.
Surviving are his wife, Myrdell Patterson Kensinger, of the home; three sisters, Eugenia Sackwitz, Rogersville, Mary Hagood, Surgoinsville and Pauline Cowan, Bristol, Tenn.; one brother, Robert T. Kensinger, Johnson City; and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Broome Funeral Home, Rogersville.

Carrie Lewis
CLINCHPORT, Va. - Carrie 'Granny' Lewis, 90, entered into rest Friday (Oct. 13, 2000).
Mrs. Lewis was born in Kentucky June 25, 1910 and was a daughter of the late James and Cassie Shepherd Dixon.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Lewis; sister, Maggie Dixon; four brothers, Hershel, Elbert, Bill and Sheridan Dixon.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Willie and Hazel Hensley, Duffield, Va.; sister-in-law, Margaret Dixon, Bonnyman, Ky.; one brother, Burley Dixon, Smilax, Ky.; three grandchildren, Roger, Lynn and Jeffery Hensley; five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Duffield Funeral Home, Duffield, Va.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Joe Hill and the Rev. Joe Roberts officiating.
Music will be provided by Durhams Chapel Quartet.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in McDavid Family Cemetery, Rye Cove, Va., in the Bishop Town community.
The family will be meeting at 12:15 p.m. at the funeral home chapel to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Nina Mayo
ROGERSVILLE - Graveside services for Nina Langford Mayo, 72, of 111 Clifton St., who died Wednesday (Oct. 11, 2000) will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Highland Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Nina L. Mayo Memorial Fund, c/o First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 267, Rogersville, Tenn. 37857.

Dorothy S. Mitchell
Services for Dorothy Evelyn Smith Mitchell, 85, Kingsport, who died Wednesday (Oct. 11, 2000) will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. today in the Carter-Trent Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Holtzclaw officiating.
Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Neil Osborne
BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Edmond McNeil Osborne, 79, died Friday (Oct. 13, 2000) at his home.
He was born in Lee County, Va., the son of the late, Robert L. and Lillie (Pridemore) Osborne and lived most of his life in Big Stone Gap, Va. He was a retired Hydraulic Tech with the Westmoreland Coal Co. with over 26 years of service.
He was a member of the UMWA District No. 28, Local 8181. He was also an automotive mechanic with the former Kelly Motor Co. in Big Stone Gap, Va. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served on the USS Cecil J. Doyle in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of the Big Stone Gap Masonic Lodge No. 208 AF&AM.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Big Stone Gap, Va., where he had been a member of the Goodloe Memorial Sunday School Class for almost 50 years, and held numerous church offices.
He was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother.
Surviving are his wife, Ruby L. Osborne; one son, Edmond M. Osborne Jr., and wife, Linda, Orange Park, Fla.; one daughter, Karen O. Shuler and husband, Dennis, Big Stone Gap, Va.; two grandchildren, Elizabeth D. Shuler, Big Stone Gap, Va., and Edmond M. Osborne III, Canton, Miss.; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Holding Funeral Home, Big Stone Gap, Va.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church of Big Stone Gap, Va.
Burial will follow in the Cecil-Frye Cemetery, Pennington Gap, Va.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be members of the First Baptist Church Men's Sunday School Class and the former coworkers of the C.M. Shop.

Robert C. Rutledge
KINGSPORT - Robert C. (Bob) Rutledge, 63, 2308 Cranshaw Drive, died Friday (Oct. 13, 2000) at Holston Valley Medical Center after an extended illness.
Born and raised in Greene County, he lived most of his life in Kingsport. He was a retiree of Eastman Kodak and a lifetime member of the Sullivan County Rescue Squad.
He served in the United States Air Force and Tennessee National Guard for 14 years.
Mr. Rutledge was a mason and past master of Holston Lodge No. 559, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mauveline Charlotte Dawson Rutledge; his father, Dee Rutledge; a brother, James Rutledge; a sister, Sandra Rutledge.
Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Joan Elam Rutledge, of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Patricia Rutledge, Tony and Carolyn Rutledge, Debra Tilley, Ronda Rutledge, all of Kingsport; three granddaughters, Melissa Hall, Steffanie Rutledge, Jozie Rutledge; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Robert Hall; two sisters, Barbara Hensley, Greeneville and Tonya Dockery, Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Oak Hill Funeral Home and anytime at the residence, 2308 Cranshaw Drive. Masonic services will be conducted by the Holston Lodge No. 559 at 2:45 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Services will follow at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Kyle Falin officiating.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the VFW Charles DeWitt Post No. 3382 at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the activity fund of the Roller Russ Residence for Independent Living, 2221 Memorial Court, Kingsport, Tenn. 37664.

KINGSPORT - Graveside services for Kay Sanders, of Crown Colony, who died Tuesday (Oct. 10, 2000) will be conducted at 10 a.m. today at Oak Hill Cemetery.

KINGSPORT - Hubert Eugene Smith, 58, died Thursday night (Oct. 12, 2000) in South Carolina.

KINGSPORT - Flora Bass Sneed, 76, died Friday (Oct. 13, 2000) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

Mary Joann Speer
Services for Mary Joann Speer, 66, of Kingsport, who died Wednesday morning (Oct. 11, 2000) will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in the chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown, with the Rev. Raymond Amos and Elder Dewey Ward officiating.
Interment will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.
Memorials may be given to the charity of donor's choice.

Robert King Stone
KINGSPORT - Robert 'Bobby' King Stone, 77, died at Wellmont Hospice House Thursday (Oct. 12, 2000) after several years of ill health.
Mr. Stone was born and lived his entire life in Kingsport. He was the son of George Ell and Mary Gray Stone. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Salt Lake City and the USS New Orleans. He was a partner in George E. Stone Grocery, but retired early due to ill health.
He was an inactive member of First Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Taylor Stone; sisters, Pauline Calhoun, Katherine Hull, Margaret Nivision, Georgia Bowles, Nancy Lyle and Hazel Nelms.
Surviving are his brother and sister-in-law, William Ell Stone and Jackie Fischer Stone; and 13 nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 1 to 2 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport.
Graveside services will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery with Pastor J.M. Baker and the Rev. Beth Yarborough officiating.

Willie B. Sturgill
BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Willie B. Sturgill, 84 passed away Thursday (Oct. 12, 2000) at Wellmont Lonesome Pine Hospital, Big Stone Gap, Va.
He was a retired coal miner, former employee of Westmoreland Coal Co. and a member of UMWA Local 1405. He was a member of the Freedom of Worship Church, Norton, Va.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mack and Rosa Marks Sturgill Sr.; six brothers, Sam Sturgill, Ralph Sturgill, Mack Sturgill Jr., Dewey Sturgill, Roy Sturgill and an infant brother; and two sisters, Pearl Messer and Thoma Wright.
Surviving are his wife, Louise Scott Sturgill, Big Stone Gap, Va.; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Billy and Jennifer Sturgill, Coeburn, Va., Stacy and Joy Sturgill, Morristown and Kerry L. Sturgill, Big Stone Gap, Va.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Glenda and Tommy Asbury, Wise, Va., Teresa and Allen Absher, Salisbury, Md., and Debbie Adkins, Big Stone Gap, Va.; six brothers, the Rev. Glen Sturgill, Kenneth Sturgill and Marvin Sturgill, all of Norton, Va., Percy Sturgill, and John Paul Sturgill, Big Stone Gap, Va., and Arnold (Kim) Sturgill, Blackwater, Va.; one sister, Ruby Williams, Norton, Va.; 11 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Charles DeWitt Post No. 3382 at 2 p.m. Sunday at Oak Hill Cemetery.

A memorial service for Auke Valk, 72, who passed away Wednesday (Oct. 11, 2000) will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Waverly Road Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jack Raymore officiating.
A graveside service will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at East Lawn Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Henere P. Valk, Lee R. Valk, Tony Valk, Michael J. Valk, Sanford Roberts, and Steve Weatherford.
