Ruby Barber, 81, died May 4, 2001.
A native of Oglethorpe County, she was a daughter of the late Gus and Arzinne Carter Barber. She was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be Sunday, May 6, 2001 at 2:00 PM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, EAST with Rev. William Anglin officiating. Interment will be in Winterville Cemetery.
Survivors include a nephew, Thomas Barber of Watkinsville and several great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 7:00 until 9:00 PM.

Roger Baruch
Colbert, GA
Roger Alan Baruch, 49, died August 25, 2002.
A native of New York City, he was a son of Aileen Lee Baruch of Tampa, FL and the late James Joseph Baruch. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia School of Law, Athens, GA, and was an attorney with the Center For Prisoner's Legal Assistance, PC. Mr. Baruch was an avid cyclist.
Memorial services will be Friday, August 30, 2002 at 4:30 PM at Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, Athens, with Rev. Terry Balof officiating.
Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife, Marguerite Madden of Colbert; son, Auryn Baruch, stepdaughter, Ayn Remillard and stepson, Kemp Remillard, all of Colbert; brother, sister-in-law, niece and nephew, Ronald and Dianne Baruch, Martin and Ariel of Tampa, FL and ex-wife, Ellen Bargeron of Athens.

Raymond Beaman
1920 - 2001
Raymond Alfred Beaman, 80, died June 15, 2001.
A native of Logan County, WV, he was a son of the late Oscar and Maude Minton Beaman and was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Beaupre. Mr. Beaman was a U.S. Air Force veteran of WW II having served in the South Pacific and a member of VFW Post 9738. He was a retired aircraft mechanic with Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH.
Memorial services will be Saturday, June 30, 2001 at 11:00 A.M., at Routsong Funeral Home 2100 East Stroop Road, Dayton, OH.
Survivors include his wife, Genevieve Harvey Beaman; 3 daughters, Linda Lucas of Athens, and Rebecca Altman and Paula Anderson, both of Dayton; Son, Richard Beaman of Dayton; 12 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

William A. (Bill) Bearss
1927 - 2001
Athens, GA
William A. (Bill) Bearss, 73, died August 6, 2001.
A native of Columbus, GA, he was a son of the late Clyde Ivan and Florence Grimes Bearss and was preceded in death by a brother, James E. Bearss. Mr. Bearss attended Clemson University and was retired from Georgia Power Company with 35 years of service. He was a member of Georgia Power Ambassadors, a U.S. Army veteran of WW II and a member of Central Presbyterian Church.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 8, 2001 at 11:00 AM at Central Presbyterian Church with Dr. Robert Bohler officiating. Interment will be at 4:00 PM in Cemetery Hill, Clemson, SC.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Georgia Power Ambassadors.
Survivors include his wife, Roberta B. Bearss; 2 daughters and sons in law, Diane and Joe Hampton of Covington, GA and Charlene and Steve Fleming of Athens; 2 sons, Charles Bearss of Athens and Allen Bearss of Lawrenceville, GA; Sister, Deloris B. Elwell of Columbus, GA; Brother, John Robert Bearss of Cairo, GA; 5 grandchildren, Jennifer Hampton Towns and Russell Towns, Brooke Hampton, Adam Fleming, James Fleming and Leah Fleming; 1 great grandchild, Julia Towns and a number of nieces and nephews.

Raymond Beales
1971 - 2002
Arnoldsville, GA
Raymond Arthur Beales, 31, died February 21, 2002.
A native of Fairfax County, VA, he was the son of Frederick Raymond and Dana Beals of Fairfax and Faye Arlene and Frederic Brick of Clifton, VA. He was a heavy equipment operator and of the Baptist faith.
Funeral services will be Sunday, February 24, 2002 at 2:00 PM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, EAST with Chaplain Mark Fite officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Beales, John Finke, Chris McKenzie, Aaron Loney, Frederic Brick and Mike Dobbins.
Survivors in addition to his parents, include a sister, Karen Finke of Charlottesville, VA; 2 stepsisters, Karen Kress of San Francisco, CA and Kerri Kress of Tempe, AZ; Grandparents, Ruth Duffield and Howard Duffield, both of Tucson, AZ; Step grandparents, Elizabeth and George Stevenson of Oxon Hill, MD; a number of aunts, uncles and cousins and longtime companion, Paige Garrett and her sons, Chris McKenzie and Aaron Loney, of Arnoldsville.

Jackie Benner
Hull, GA
Jacquelyn Elizabeth Benner, 66, died April 23, 2002.
Born in Starkville and raised in Newton, MS, she was a daughter of the late Jack F. Benner and Mary Helen Addy and stepdaughter of the late Ernest L. Addy. She had made her home in Hull since 1967. She was retired from the Environmental Protection Agency as a research lab technician with 20 years of service. While employed with EPA in research, she was a recipient of the Bronze Medal for meritorious service.
Funeral services will be Thursday, April 25, 2002 at 11:00 AM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, EAST with Steve Watson officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Tracy Allen, Steve Allen, Michael Phillips, Bob Chapman, Brad Collins and David Camp.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Allen, Bill Payne, Glenn Duggar and John Pope.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Michael F. and Louise Benner of Hull and 4 grandchildren, Sarah, Sean, Aaron and Rachel.

Roberta Bearss
Athens, GA
Roberta B. Bearss, 74, died August 6, 2002.
A native of Pickens County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Charlie Clifton and Lucille Smith Bennett and widow of William A. (Bill) Bearss. Mrs. Bearss attended Winthrop College, Rock Hill, SC. She was Past State President of Women of Georgia Power, member of Citizens of Georgia Power and Georgia Power Ambassadors and a volunteer with the Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church.
Funeral services will be Thursday, August 8, 2002 at 11:00 AM at Central Presbyterian Church with Dr. Robert Bohler officiating. Interment will be at 4:00 PM at Cemetery Hill, Clemson, SC.
Pallbearers will be Howard Pratt, George Cowart, Jim Jarrard, Louis Boyd, Branson Fowler and Jim Thaxton.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Georgia Power Ambassadors.
Survivors include 2 daughters and sons in law, Diane and Joe Hampton of Covington and Charlene and Steve Fleming of Athens; 2 sons, Charles Bearss of Athens and Allen Bearss of Lawrenceville; sister, Elsie B. Wilson of Clemson; aunt, Edna S. Plyler of Matthews, NC; 5 grandchildren, Jennifer Hampton and Russell Towns, Brooke Hampton, Adam Fleming, Leah Fleming and James Fleming; great grandchild, Julia Towns and a number of nieces and nephews.

Clara Boggs
Stephens, GA
Clara McCannon Boggs, 83, of 61 Sam Woods Road, went home to be with her Lord, Saturday, March 23, 2002.
A native of Oglethorpe County, Mrs. Boggs was the daughter of the late Earl and Etta McCannon and was the widow of the Rev. Elmer Boggs. She retired from the restaurant business, where she operated Granny's Kitchen for a number of years. She was a member of Pentecost Holiness Church. She was preceded in death by 4 sisters, Thelma Cofer, Florie McCannon, Laura McCannon and Pauline Mathews; 3 brothers, Frank McCannon, Obie McCannon and Jim Tom McCannon.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 26, 2002 at 2:00 PM at Pentecost Holiness Church with the Revs. Tye Sorrow, Butch Roberts and Tom Arnold officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Thomas McCannon, Douglas Mathews, Steve McCannon, Don Harrison, Bill Braden and Richard Smith.
Survivors include 1 sister, Marietta Griffiths of Lexington; 1 brother, Kelly McCannon of Lexington; a number of nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
The family is at their respective homes and will receive family and friends Monday from 7:00 until 9:00 PM.

Don Broome
1947 - 2001
Watkinsville, GA
Donald James Broome, 54, died September 30, 2001.
A native of Union County, NC, he was a son of Jessie D. Broome of Marshville, NC and the late James C. Broome. He had made his home in this area since 1967 and was retired as General Manager, Savannah Division of Empire Distributors, Inc. He was past president of Green Hills Country Club and former member of Green Hills Golf Committee.
Memorial services will be Sunday, October 7, 2001 at 2:00 PM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, EAST with Dr. Jim Waters officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service.
Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife, Ellen T. Broome; Son and grandson, David and Donavon Broome of Bogart; 2 brothers, Robert Broome of Maderia, CA and Michael Broome of Greenville, SC.

Charlie "Junior" Brooks

Charlie "Junior" Brooks, 70, died March 28, 2002.
A lifelong resident of Oglethorpe County, he was a son of the late Charlie Reese and Mary Owens Brooks. He was retired from Athens-Clarke County and was a member of Cornith Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 30, 2002 at 2:00 PM at Corinth Baptist Church with Rev. Richard McFall officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Daniel Brooks; 2 nephews raised in the home, Remington Bowling and Van Bowling; 6 sisters, Mary Gladue of Conyers, Lorene Hughes of Winterville, Dorothy Brooks of Comer, Ann Tufts, Joann Smith and Peggy Williams, all of Athens and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Corinth Baptist Church Building Fund or Cemetery Fund, 2040 Belmont Road, Arnoldsville, GA, 30619.

Irma Brewer
Bogart, GA
Irma Lou Compton Brewer, 84, died Thursday, July 25, 2002.
A native of Madison County, she was the daughter of the late James Augustus and Zell Parham Compton. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Paul Brewer, three brothers, Guy, Talmadge and Allen Compton and a sister, Ruby Compton. Mrs. Brewer was a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be Saturday, July 27, 2002 at 2:00 PM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, WEST with Revs. W.C. Tribble and Charles Jones officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Jo and Charles Whitehead of Bogart; 2 grandchildren, David Whitehead of Bogart and Annette Turner of Statham; great grandchild, Justin Paul Whitehead of Bogart; sister-in-law, Mattie Compton of Hull and several nieces and nephews.

Esther Brown
1954 - 2003
Lexington, GA
Esther Kate Brown, 49, died March 2, 2003.
A native of Austin, TX, she was the daughter of Billy McBride of Longview, TX and the late Earlene Loyce Banigan. She worked in the telecommunications industry for a number of years and was a member of Clouds Creek Baptist Church.
Esther Kate loved the ocean and marine life. She carried her diving certificate for 20 years. She had a special affinity for sea turtles, dolphins and the Hawaiian fish, especially Humuhumunukunukuapua�a.
Memorial services will be Friday, March 7, 2003 at 3:00 PM at Clouds Creek Baptist Church with Revs. John Parker and Nathan Palmer officiating.
Survivors include her husband, B. Norman Brown, MD; 2 children, Craig Berndt of Ft. Wayne, IN and Tuesday Watkins of Houston, TX; 2 brothers, Billy McBride and Arliss Riche, both of Houston, TX and 4 grandchildren, Michael Craig Berndt, Jayne Esther Berndt, Chelsea Peerson and Christopher Michael Chamness.
The family will receive friends following the memorial service.
Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to Gideons International Memorial Bible Program.

James Burroughs
1922 - 2001
James W. Burroughs, 78, formerly of the Neese Community, died May 3, 2001.
A native and longtime resident of Madison County, he was a son of the late D.I. and Pinkie C. Martin Burroughs. He was a retired farmer, a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charlie Burroughs, 2 sisters, Lilliam Waller and Addie Ruth Burroughs and a granddaughter, Laura Bridges.
Funeral services will be May 5, 2001 at 3:00 PM at Lord and Stephens Madison Chapel with Rev. Ray Jenkins officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter and son in law, Jane B. and Clifford Bridges of Hull; 2 grandchildren, Amy Stephenson of Commerce and Amanda Bridges of Athens and 2 great grandchildren.

Frances Dillard Butts
1907 - 2001
Mrs. Frances Dillard Butts, 94, of Arnoldsville, passed away December 29, 2001.
Mrs. Butts was the daughter of the late Anna Jane Quillian and Rev. Thomas Hutcheson Dillard. She graduated from Crawford High School in 1924, and the State Normal School in Athens in 1926. She then taught school in Lanette, AL, Royston and Warrenton, GA.
Mrs. Butts joined Cherokee Corner Methodist Church in 1914, where she taught Sunday School and was pianist for many years. She operated Butts Grocery for six years, and was also a member of United Daughters of The Confederacy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Nesbit Butts, and son, John Orian Butts. She is survived by children, Ann and George Mewborne, Atlanta; Mary and Paul Butts, Gray; Virginia and Melvin Fleming, Arnoldsville; Dan Butts, Nashville, TN; Edwards Butts, Anchorage, AK; 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 2, 2002 at 2:00 PM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, EAST with Revs. O.C. Dean and Jim Hinzman officiating. Interment will be in Arnoldsville Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
