MASSINGILL, Bessie J. Massingill, 80 years old, died Monday, January 30, 2006 at the Atchison Medicalodge.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 2, 2006 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Sugar Creek Cemetery, Rushville, MO. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 PM on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association. Bessie J. Foster was born on January 30, 1926 in Horton, KS., the daughter of Floyd and Hazel (Chambers) Foster. She graduated from Atchison High School and worked as a waitress and then as a clerk for the former Wilson-Dierking Liquor Store, Atchison, Ks. for many years. She enjoyed reading, yard work and bowling.
She was married to Weldon Massingill, Jr. on Aug. 19, 1945 in Atchison, KS. Mr. Massingill preceded her in death in December of 1959. Survivors include a son: Kenneth and his wife Patricia Massingill, Basehor, KS., and one granddaughter, Liz Massingill, St. Joseph, MO. Her parents, and a special friend of many years, Sam Seager, also preceded her in death.

BOWLES, William N. Bowles, 68, Lancaster, KS passed away January 29, 2006 at his home after a long illness of kidney disease and cancer.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Thursday, February 2, 2006 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, with nephew Dr. Dennis Hansen and Pastor Valerian Ahles officiating. Inurnment of the cremains will be 1:00 PM Friday, February 3, 2006 at Evergreen Cemetery, Effingham, KS. Visitation will be from 7:00-8:30 PM Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Angelman Syndrome Foundation or the Atchison Hospital Hospice and left in care of the funeral home.
Mr. Bowles was born August 3, 1937 in Rosendale, MO the son of Charles and Katherine (Mink) Bowles. He worked at Midwest Grain Products until 1964 when he began his career with the U.S. Postal Service at the Atchison Post Office. After 28 years with the postal service he retired as Postmaster in 1992. After retiring he and his wife moved to the Branson, MO area until coming back home to Lancaster in March of 2005. Mr. Bowles was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from May 1955 through 1958. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of the American Legion Post 0066 in Atchison. He was a former mason and Shriner. William enjoyed the outdoors, carpentry and remodeling.
He married Patricia Lacy of Horton, KS on March 18, 1963. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include a daughter Cynthia Holtmeyer and her husband Joseph of Atchison, KS; a son Russell N. Bowles of San Antonio, TX; eight grandchildren Amanda and Michael Cothron, C. Boudreaux Baker, Joshua, Anthony and Lacy Bowles, Jeffery and Adrian Holtmeyer. Sisters Lurena Hansen of Atchison, KS and Ruby Hottman of Muscotah, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Frances Hurst in 1971

SCHMIDT, Marcia Ruth Schmidt, 68 years old, of Atchison, KS. died Saturday, January 28, 2006 at the Atchison Medicalodge.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at the Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Robert Ziegler officiating. The body will be cremated following the service and burial of the cremated remains will be at a later date in the Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 PM on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison, KS. Marcia R. Cunningham was born on December 30, 1937 in Rushville, MO., the daughter of Morris and Helen K. (Wheeler) Cunningham. She attended schools in Rushville; MO. Marcia worked for Saunders Mfg. for 6 years, then as a floral arranger for the former Atchison Floral, and then as an elder caregiver- homemaker for Social Rehabilitation Services for 6 years. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, was a Kennedy Caller for the church and a member of the Adult Bible Study. She did volunteer work for the March of Dimes and at both Atchison Senior Village and Medicalodge of Atchison. She enjoyed dancing, oil painting, drawing, ceramics, pottery, carving plates and especially her family.
She was married to Frederick W. Schmidt on May 10, 1957. Mr. Schmidt preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 2004. Her parents and one sister also preceded her in death. Survivors include three sons; Michael Schmidt, Gladstone, Mo, Daniel Schmidt, Kansas City, MO., and Kendall Schmidt, Kansas City, KS. A daughter; Jeffrey and her husband David Downing, Atchison, KS. two brothers; David W. Cunningham, and Steven D. Cunningham, both of St. Joseph, MO., six grandchildren; Nicki, Sean, Sarah, and Ryan Schmidt, Charlene and David Downing, Jr. and one great grandchild.

CUMMINGS, Robert L. 'Bob' Cummings, Sr., 71. Cummings, KS passed away Friday, January 27, 2006 at his home.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Monday, January 30, 2006 at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gary Patterson officiating. Burial will follow at Cummings Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 PM Sunday, January 29, 2006 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Mr. Cummings was born October 3, 1934 in Effingham, KS the son of Maurice and Edna M. (Petree) Cummings. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Cummings was a truck driver for over 44 years. He had worked at Midwest Grain Products several years, for We-Mac Manufacturing, Atchison, and for the Winn Transport, Omaha, NE.. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post #1175, Atchison, KS., the Lancaster Saddle Club, and enjoyed riding horses, teaching children how to ride horses.
He was married to Hazel Wilburn on June 7, 1957 at the First Christian Church, Atchison, KS. Mrs. Cummings survives of the home, Cummings, KS. Additional survivors include a son and his wife, Robert L. and Judy Cummings, Jr., Cummings, KS. Three daughters; Kathy and her husband Rick Baker, Lancaster, KS., Deanna and her husband Chris Wehking, Everest, KS. and Joy Mottin, Everest, KS. A sister, Mary Doolin, Texarkana, TX., nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren. His parents, and a grandson, Bryan preceded him in death.

CARROLL, Michael Lee Carroll, 20 years old, of Atchison, Kansas died Friday, January 20, 2006 of an apparent suicide.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison, KS with the Rev. Steve Calloway, officiating. The body has been cremated and private family burial will be at a later date in the Mt. Olive Cemetery, Troy, KS. Family will receive friends on Tuesday from 7:00-8:30 PM at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Michael was born November 26, 1985 in Atchison, Kansas the son of John and Merry (Park) Carroll. He attended the Atchison public school system and graduated from Atchison High School in May 2005. While in high school he was on the high school Cross Country Team. He also graduated from Northeast Kansas Technical College with a certificate in masonry. He was a member of the Community of Christ, Atchison, KS. He enjoyed trapping, fishing, the outdoors, and helping others.
Survivors include his parents, John and Merry Carroll, of Atchison, KS, birth mother, Debra Gilliland, Atchison, KS, Three brothers; Matthew Carroll and his fiancee' Amy Smith, Atchison, KS, Kevin Garcia and his fiancee' Carman Perez, Brownsville, TX, and Alexander Garcia and his fiancee' Jami Thompson, Brownsville, TX, and paternal grandfather, Jackson Carroll, Atchison, KS. His paternal grandmother, Margaret Carroll, and his maternal grandparents, Sterling and Emily (Steele) Park preceded him in death.

WOOD, Thelma Marie Wood, 92, Atchison, KS passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at Atchison Hospital.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, January 20, 2006 at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Robert Ziegler officiating. Burial at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 PM Friday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Lutheran School Endowment Fund and left in care of Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home.
Mrs. Wood was born January 18, 1913 in Atchison, KS the daughter of John Herman and Anna (Hulfershorn) Wiesenthal. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and did babysitting for over 20 years. She enjoyed gardening, birds, her dogs and loved spending time with her family and friends.
She married Hughie Wood on July 25, 1942 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Atchison. He preceded her in death on December 3, 1984. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Lena Jones, Regina Caldwell, Freida Neill and Anna Yost. A brother Henry Wiesenthal, and niece Henrietta Caldwell Griffin.
She is survived by a cousin Louise Wiesenthal of Vamhill, OR; nephews Norman Griffin and his wife Joy of Atchison, KS. Wilburn and his wife Vondell Neill of Kansas City, MO and Denny Jones and his wife Gayle of Chilhowee, MO. Great niece Stephanie Hundley and her husband David of Atchison, KS; great nephews Terry Griffin and his wife Mary Beth of Atchison, KS; Michael Griffin and his wife Tami of Rushville, MO and Steven Griffin and his wife Debby of Rushville, MO. Great great nieces and nephews Jason and Mandi Griffin of Dekalb, MO, Bryce and Jenna Hundley of Atchison, KS. Great great great niece Ashtyn Griffin. Special friends, Diane and Harry Moore of Gulfport, MS, Denise and Avery Gretton of Shaverton, PA, Lee and Margaret Smith of Atchison, KS and Ed and Glenda Huber of Atchison, KS.

BLAIR, Clyde H. Blair, 79, of Atchison, KS, died Monday, January 16, 2006 at Vintage Park Assisted Living in Atchison, KS.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 19, 2006 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Atchison, with Rev. Robert Ziegler, officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery in Atchison. Family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home in Atchison. Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Blair are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church or Atchison Hospice.
Mr. Blair was born October 3, 1926 in Lancaster, KS, the son of William C. and Elsie J. (Stickler) Blair. He attended grade school in Lancaster and graduated from Atchison High School in 1945. After graduation, Mr. Blair entered the military, serving overseas in the US Army during WWII. Upon returning home, he became a reservist with the National Guard in Atchison until 1968. Mr. Blair worked as a senior foreman of the Molding Core Room for the former Rockwell Foundry (now Atchison Casting) in Atchison. He retired from Rockwell after 34 years of service in September 1984. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Atchison, where he served many years as elder, usher, and member of the Stewardship/Finance Board. He was also a member of the Atchison VFW and Pineview Country Club. Clyde was an avid golfer.
Clyde married Mary M. Shields on July 1, 1948 in Atchison. She preceded him in death on March 23, 1998. He was also preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Chester, Bert, Clarence and Richard; one sister, Wanda Boos; one great-granddaughter, Courtney Duggan.
Survivors include one son, William 'Bill' Blair of Savannah, MO; two daughters, Sharon Dingess of Melbourne, FL, and Jodel Cloepfil, of St. Joseph, MO; one brother, William C. Blair of Atchison; two sisters, Virginia Hager of Atchison and Helen Wheeler of Ottawa, KS; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren.

HARDEN, Shirley Jean Harden, 62, Lancaster, KS, died Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at Heartland East Hospital in St. Joseph, MO.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 13, 2006 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Lancaster, with Pastor Jane Rothman, officiating. Burial will be in Old Huron Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8:00 pm, Thursday, at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home in Atchison. Memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Harden are suggested St. John's Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Harden was born December 1, 1943, in St. Joseph, MO, the daughter of James Ball and James & Virginia Dunn Hundley. She attended Huron Grade School and Effingham High School.
She married Gary Russell Harden on July 18, 1959.
Mrs. Harden worked for Blish Mize, Atchison Garment Factory, Saunders, Atchison Leather Products and for the last 17 years at Walmart in Atchison.
She was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church, Lancaster, and The Lion's Club. She enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren, great-grandson, sewing, cooking, and always doing for others.
She was preceded in death by her biological father, James Ball, who was killed in action in World War II and her mother, Virginia Dunn Hundley.
Survivors include her husband, Gary Harden of the home; son & daughter-in-law, Robert & Terri Harden, Lancaster; son, Michael Harden of Atchison; daughter & son-in-law, Roxanne & Dan Mulanax of Topeka; her father, James Hundley; brother, Phil Hundley; sister, Sharon Schuetz, all of Cummings, KS; brother, Leonard Hundley of Lancaster; four grandchildren and one great-grandson.

KEIRNS, Fern L. Keirns, 86, of Oklahoma City, OK (formerly of Cummings) loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2006 at the Grace Living Center, Del City, OK.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, January 13th, 2006 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, with Rev. Robert Ziegler, Pastor of the Trinity Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Pardee Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 PM on Thursday, Jan. 12, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Fern was born February 8, 1919 in St. Joseph, MO to Thomas Edward and Mable Minnie Roberts, the youngest of five children. She was married to Gilbert L. Keirns on April 23, 1935. She and Gilbert were engaged in farming and livestock production their entire married life in the Pardee community. She was an active and hard working farm wife, working beside her husband as they toiled with the duties of operating the farm. She helped supplement the farm income by raising 300 laying hens and selling the eggs for many years. Her greatest joy was raising her children and attending their school activities. Her hobbies were gardening, tending the flowers around the yard and preparing good food and maintaining a tidy house for her family. She was in later years especially devoted to her poodle Rusty.
Preceding her in death was her husband on Aug. 13, 1985; her parents, sisters Geneieve Lesher and Blair Roberts, and her brothers Bill and Preston Roberts. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Etta Mae Keirns, Goodland, KS; her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Leroy Stutz, Oklahoma City, OK; three grandchildren; Bradley Keirns, Brian Stutz and Gregory Keirns; and seven great-grandchildren.

KRAMER, Agnes E. Kramer, 80 years old, of Winchester, KS. died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006 at the Jefferson County Memorial Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006 at St. Lawrence Church, Easton. Fr. Jon Hullinger will serve as Celebrant. Burial will follow at the Corpus Christi Cemetery, Winchester, KS. A parish rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, Jan. 10th, 2006 at the O'Trimble Funeral Home, Nortonville. Visitation will follow until 8:30 PM. Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Lawrence Church, or Jefferson County Memorial Hospital. Agnes E. Littleton was born on April 3, 1925 in Holton, KS., the daughter of Lloyd and Louise (Eckert) Littleton. She attended St. Mary's grade school, and graduated from Valley Falls High School. Agnes had formerly worked for the John Morrell Co., Myers Book Co., and as a cook for the Jefferson County Memorial Hospital for over 10 years. She was a member of the St. Lawrence Church, Easton, the County line extension unit, and enjoyed cooking, reading, sewing, and especially her family and grandchildren.
She was married to Richard G. Noel, on June 15, 1944. Mr. Noel preceded her in death in 1946. She later married Leonard J. Kramer on Nov. 19, 1947. Mr. Kramer preceded her in death on Jan. 29, 1992. Her parents, a son, Milton Kramer, 1954, and a daughter, Sandra Kramer, 1966 also preceded her in death. Survivors include two daughters; Mrs. Louise and her husband Larry Wistuba, Winchester, KS., and Mrs. Carol and her husband Ed Puckett, Ottawa, KS., two sisters; Mrs. Ellen Schrick, Valley Falls, KS., and Mrs. Glee Hough, Topeka, KS., eight grandchildren, twenty four great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
