BURGE, Ruth May Burge, 72 years old, of Atchison, KS., died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006 at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, Jan. 7th, 2006 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, with Rev. Steve Hollingsworth pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 PM on Friday, Jan. 6th, 2006 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Baptist Church. Ruth May VanHorn was born on May 4, 1933 in Atchison County, KS. the daughter of Alfred and Mary Dion (Moore) VanHorn. Mrs. Burge worked as a cook for the former Randall's, Pineview Country Club, and then at Pleasant Ridge High School before retiring. She was raised Catholic, was a member of the N.R.A., and enjoyed outdoor activities such as fishing, hunting, horseback riding, mushroom hunting, gardening and raising flowers.
Ruth was married to Howard Glen Pennington on May 6, 1949. They were later divorced and he preceded her in death on Dec. 30, 1989. Ruth was later married to Don Burge on May 18, 1981 in Platte City, MO., Mr. Burge survives of the home. Additional survivors include two sons; Howard D. Pennington, and his wife Susan, Oskaloosa, KS., Robert E. Pennington, and his wife, Vicki, Atchison, KS., a daughter; Debbie J. Lesperance, and her husband Larry, Leavenworth, KS., four step-sons; Donald L. Burge,Jr. and his wife, Marilyn, Oskaloosa, KS., Arthur W. and his wife Mary Burge, Atchison, KS., Richard D.and his wife Vicki Burge, Atchison, KS., and Wesley Burge, Atchison, KS. a step daughter; Rebecca R. and her husband, Ken Jones, Atchison, KS., two sisters; Frances Roles, Atchison, KS., Catherine Tull, Atchison, KS., fourteen grandchildren, thirteen step- grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and seven step great grandchildren. Her parents, a daughter, Kathy Pennington, a son; Alfred 'Wayne' Pennington, a grandchild, Belinda May Pennington, a step-son; Kurtiss D. Burge, a brother, Bill VanHorn, three sisters; Viola Davis, George Anna Edwards, and Lena Conard also preceded her in death.

HAM, Harriet V. Ham, 94 years old, formerly of Atchison, died Friday, Dec. 30th, 2005 at the Bishop Spencer Place, Kansas City, MO.
Memorial services will be 3:00 PM on Monday, January 9, 2006 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Raymond C. Hartjen, Jr., Trinity Episcopal Church officiating.The family will receive friends from 2:30 PM until time of services at the funeral home. Burial will follow services in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Atchison, KS. The body has been cremated; the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Harriet V. Ham was born on June 11, 1911 in Atchison, KS., the daughter of Harry and Ethel (Clark) Ham. She graduated from Atchison High School. She received her B.S. degree from the Mt. St. Scholastica College and her specialist degree in reading from the University of Kansas, Lawrence. Miss Ham worked in the flour brokerage business in Kansas City, MO. from 1936-1954. She was a teacher in the Topeka High School from 1958-1971; from 1971-1976 at Topeka West teaching for over 20 years before retiring in 1976.She was an excellent reading teacher. She enjoyed membership in several book clubs from which many friendships were made. Miss Ham resided in Topeka, Kansas for many years and had recently been a resident at the Bishop Spencer Place in Kansas City. She was a devote Episcopalian attending churches in Topeka, Kansas and the Trinity Episcopal Church, Atchison, KS.
Survivors include a brother, James H. Ham, Indianapolis, IN, as well as nephews Jay and Steve Ham, Indianapolis, IN., and nieces; Nancy Ham Megarity, McKinney TX., Elizabeth J. (Zibbie) Ferrell, Houston, TX., and Mary Bruce Mikesic, Kansas City, KS.,She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister; Jane Gillespie, 1983.

GAGGERO, Joseph Gaggero, 85, Effingham, KS. passed away Friday, December 30, 2005 at Medicalodge of Atchison, KS.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Effingham, KS., with Father Benjamin Tremmel, O.S.B. officiating. Burial at St. Ann's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:30-6:00 PM Monday with a parish rosary said at 5:30 PM at St. Ann's Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW or the St. Ann's Church Building Fund and left in care of Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home 800 Kansas Ave. Atchison, KS 66002.
Mr. Gaggero was born February 4, 1920 in Oakland, CA the son of Pete and Julia (Padisdi) Gaggero. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict serving for 9 years. He was employed for 22 years with the Veterans Administration in Topeka in the Maintenance Department. He was a member of the VFW in Topeka and a member of the American Legion. Joseph enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and dancing and spent many years landscaping for friends and gardening, selling the produce in Topeka and Effingham.
He married Helen Eckert in May 1950. She preceded him in death in November of 1991. He then married Ethel Eckert in December of 1992. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include his sons Joseph W. Gaggero and his wife Wanda of Lawrence, KS and Timothy Gaggero and his wife Susan of Topeka, KS. Daughter Linda Gaggero of Topeka, KS. 3 grandsons and 3 great grandchildren. Sister Mary Santos of Atwater, CA.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Helen and a half brother Louie.

SHEELEY, Mary Ann Sheeley, 66, of Nortonville, KS, died unexpectedly, Friday, December 30, 2005, at her home in rural Nortonville.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Effingham with Fr. Ben Tremmel, celebrant. Burial will be in St. Ann's Church Cemetery, Effingham. Family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 PM, Monday, at St. Ann's Church in Effingham, where a Scripture Service will be held at 7:00 PM and a Rosary will be recited at 8:15 PM. Memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Sheeley are suggested to St. Ann's Church. The O'Trimble Funeral Home in Effingham is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Sheeley was born August 24, 1939 on the family farm five miles west of Effingham, KS, the daughter of Glen and Catherine (Reynolds) Eckert. She attended District #60 grade school and graduated from Effingham High School in 1957. Mrs. Sheeley helped with the milking on the family farm and was a bus driver for 26 years with USD #377 School District in Effingham. She had also driven the bus for many after school activities. She had worked for a few years at the Horton Garment Factory in Atchison, sold Avon, and decorated wedding cakes. She had been a 4-H project leader and also taught CCD classes at St. Ann's Church. Mrs. Sheeley enjoyed being with her grandchildren and especially sewing for them. She was a member of the St. Ann's Catholic Church in Effingham, KS.
Mary Ann and Francis V. Sheeley were married on November 29, 1958 at St. Ann's Church in Effingham. He survives. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Andrea; one grandson, Austan Reichart; one brother, John Wayne Eckert.
Survivors include her husband, Francis V. Sheeley, Sr, of the home in Nortonville; two sons, Daniel Sheeley and his wife, Terri, of Effingham, and Francis V. Sheeley, Jr. and his wife, Heather, of McLouth, KS; three daughters, Jackie Reichart and her husband, Steve, of Holton, Lana Jo Miller and her fiancee, Jim Schuetz of Everest, KS, and Jennifer Ann Van Tol and her husband, Sean, of Platte City, MO; two brothers, Larry Eckert of Nortonville, and Jacob Eckert of Dallas, TX; two sisters, Gelene August of New Liberty, IA and Dorothy Chandler of Cascade, CO; 15 grandchildren and one step great granddaughter.

SCHLETZBAUM, Esther Mae Schletzbaum, 86 of Blue Springs Mo. passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2005. The family would like you to join them to celebrate her life at a visitation from 1:00 to 2:30, January 2, 2006 and services at 2:30 PM, January 2, 2006 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Chapel in Atchison, Kansas. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepard Christian Church or the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Esther was born in Atchison, Kansas on March 3, 1919 to Earl and Nettie (Soden) VanLiew. She grew up in Atchison where she was an active member of the First Christian Church. She married Wayne Schletzbaum on September 10, 1940. They began their married life on a farm north of Atchison, and later operated a farm north of Nortonville, Kansas. They moved to Atchison upon retiring from the farm in 1966. Her activities included the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 4-H, Rainbow Girls and church. Esther was a devoted wife, caring for her disabled husband for over 35 years. In 1975, they moved to Blue Springs, MO. to reside at their daughter Sharon's residence. There she and Wayne watched many children who referred to her as 'Grandma'. She was a member of the Good Shepherd Christian Church in Blue Springs, Mo.
Esther is survived by a special friend LeRoy Bryan, a son John and wife Donna of Indianola, IA, two daughters Sharon and husband Ken Steuart of Blue Springs, MO, and Donna and husband Chris Willoughby of Omaha, NE. She has seven grandchildren, David Schletzbaum, Deanna (Schletzbaum) Dunn, Jana (Schletzbaum) Lynch, Stephanie (Steuart) Fleming, Lindsey Steuart, Christy and Brenton Willoughby, six great grandchildren and a host of family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, a great granddaughter, Skylar Fleming and a brother Ralph VanLiew. Esther's positive outlook toward life, her loving and caring nature will be missed by everyone who knew her.

FARRELL, Richard C. Farrell, 66, of Atchison, KS, died Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at his home in Atchison.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Friday, December 30, 2005 at St. Benedict's Church in Atchison with Fr. Gerard Senecal, celebrant. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Atchison, KS. A Parish Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM, Thursday, with visitation to follow until 8:30 PM at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home in Atchison. Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Farrell are suggested to Benedictine College, American Heart Association, or American Lung Association.
Mr. Farrell was born March 30, 1939 in Concordia, Kansas, the son of James 'Jay' and Mary Faye (Green) Farrell. He graduated from Aurora High School, Aurora, KS. He graduated from St. Benedict's College in Atchison with his bachelor's degree in mathematics in 1960. He received his master's degree in mathematics in 1962 from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. and a master's degree in computer science in 1983 from Kansas University in Lawrence, KS. Mr. Farrell was a professor in the Mathematics and Computer Science Departments at the former St. Benedict's College, Atchison, now, Benedictine College, from 1962 to 2001.
Mr. Farrell was a member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and Bellevue Country Club, all of Atchison. He enjoyed playing golf, horse racing, and spending time with family and friends. Mr. Farrell's twenty-three grandchildren brought a special joy to his life.
Richard and Carole Derusseau were married on September 2, 1961 in Clyde, Kansas. She preceded him in death on March 5, 1998. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Tom Farrell.
Survivors include five daughters, Jenny Lykins of Atchison, Becki Weber of Merriam, KS, Lisa Roth of Chester, IL, Kathy Hager of Atchison, and Amanda Ramsey of Atchison; one son, Jeff Farrell of Overland Park, KS; one brother, Patrick Farrell of Denver, CO; and 23 grandchildren.

BLANN, Robert Charles Blann, 51 years old, of Atchison, KS. died Monday, Dec. 26th, 2005 at the Heartland Medical Center, St. Joseph, MO.
Funeral services will be 2:30 PM on Wednesday, Dec.28th, 2005 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, with Rev. Robert Ziegler officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens, Atchison, KS., The family will receive friends for one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Robert C. Blann was born on Oct. 25, 1954 in Kansas City, Mo. the son of Arthur J. and E. Adeline (Dickens) Blann. He graduated from the William Chrisman High School in Independence; MO. Mr. Blann was a U.S. Navy veteran having served in Vietnam. Mr. Blann worked as a serviceman for a tire repair store. He moved to Atchison from Independence Missouri in 1987. He was a member of the Fleming-Jackson-Seever American Legion Post #6, Atchison, KS.
Survivors include; Leland Adams, Atchison, KS., a son; Robert C. Blann, Jr., Buckner, MO., a daughter; April Darlene Blann, Lenexa, KS., a brother; Larry R. Blann, Kansas City, four sisters; Donna Ruth Jenkins, Sugar Creek, Mo., LuAnn Durrell, Grain Valley, Mo., Pamela Mateston, Sugar Creek, Mo., and Patricia Ann Reek, Kansas City, Mo., one grandchild. His parents, one stepbrother, and a sister preceded him in death.

KASTEN, Viola M. Kasten, 90 years old, of Atchison, KS. died Saturday, Dec. 24th, 2005 at the Atchison Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, Dec. 28th, 2005 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, with Chaplain Jack Albright officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Memory Gardens, The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 PM on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Viola Mae Overstreet was born on June 30, 1915 in Mayetta, Kansas the daughter of Fred and Ida (McCormick) Overstreet. She was married to Clyde L. Kasten on March 31, 1934 in Platte City, MO. She and her husband owned and operated the former Kasten Grocery, then Kasten Laundry. Mrs. Kasten had worked at the former B & H Shop and did private elderly sitting. She visited the nursing homes and hospital regularly until her health failed. She attended the First Baptist Church was a former member of the Rebecca's Lodge, was a founding member of the Pinochle Club, Atchison. She enjoyed fishing, and especially her family.
Survivors inlcude a son; Clyde E. Kasten, Atchison, a daughter; Mrs. Linda Henning, Atchison, KS., two sisters; Mrs. Agnes Foreman, Salem, OR., and Mrs. Dorothy Vecchia, Kansas City, MO., eight grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Her parents, husband Clyde L.Kasten, (May 24, 1978) and five brothers; Herbert, Raymond, Orville, John, & Clarence Overstreet, one great grandchild, Alexis Boldridge preceded her in death.

BARNETT, Wanda Lee Barnett, 75 years old of Atchison, KS. died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005 at her home.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, Dec. 26th at the Trinity Episcopal Church, Atchison, KS. with the Rev. Dr. Raymond C. Hartjen, Jr. officiating. Mrs. Barnett was cremated and burial of the cremated remains will follow the service on Monday at the Trinity Episcopal Memorial Garden. The family will receive friends for a short time following the committal service in the Trinity Episcopal Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be given to the Trinity Episcopal Memorial Garden Fund, or the Hands of Hope Hospice. Mrs. Barnett was born on March 9, 1930 in Atchison, KS., the daughter of Hyland J. and Myrtle E. (Connor) Church. Mrs. Barnett was the manager, and then owned and operated the former B & H Shop, an exclusive feminine apparel store, for 29 years. She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church, the Daughters of the King ladies society of the church, was the delivery coordinator of the Loaves and Fishes program of the church, was a member of P.E.O., and former member of the Atchison Area Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Barnett enjoyed sewing, her flower and water gardens, traveling, and antiques.
She was married to James S. Barnett, Sr. on March 10, 1947 at the Trinity Episcopal Church, Atchison, KS. Mr. Barnett survives of the home. Additional survivors include a daughter; Pam Barnett, Lawrence, KS., a brother, John W. Church, Atchison, KS., a sister; Carol Rose Knoch, Ft. Wayne, IN., four grandchildren; Jesse Barnett, Dallas, Tx., Mia Barnett, Dallas Tx., Jacob Clearwater, Oklahoma City, Ok., and Whitney Clearwater, Lawrence, KS., Her parents, a son; James S. Barnett, Jr., and two brothers; Hyland E. 'Butch' and Larry Church also preceded her in death.

CAMPBELL, Floyd S. Campbell, 79 years old, of Sugar Lake, Rushville, MO. died Tuesday, Dec. 20th, 2005 at the Atchison Hospital unexpectedly.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, Dec. 23rd, 2005 at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home, Parsons, KS. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2:00 PM on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at the Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Parsons, KS. Memorial contributions are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Floyd Samuel Campbell was born on April 17, 1925 in Girard, KS., the son of Samuel and Ruth (Dick) Campbell. Mr. Campbell worked as a truck driver for many years before he worked installing dry ice equipment as a service technician for Chemtron Industries, Atchison. He retired after 32 years of working for Chemtron. Mr. Campbell was a World War II and Korean U.S. Army Veteran. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post # 1175, Atchison, KS. and enjoyed traveling, yard work, visiting with friends and neighbors, and motor home camping.
Mr. Campbell was married to Viola Trimble on Sept. 22, 1947. Mrs. Campbell preceded him in death on Jan. 16, 2001. His parents, a son, Gary Campbell also preceded him in death. Survivors include a daughter; Judy and her husband Ben Kidwell, Atchison, KS., a son, James D. and his wife Nelda Ard, Albany, Ill., a brother; Leonard Campbell, Girard, KS., and two sisters; Irene Steffens, Atlantic, Iowa, and Dorothy Clutter, Girard, KS., one grandchild and one great grandchild.

WHITE, Jackie R. White, 49 years old, of Atchison, KS died Monday, Dec. 12, 2005 following a illness.
Funeral services will be 2:30 PM on Friday, Dec. 16th, 2005 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison, Ks., with Chaplain Jack Albright officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 PM on Thursday, Dec. 15th, 2005 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. The body will be cremated following the services on Friday, burial of the cremated remains will be at the Mt. Vernon Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Condolences to the family may be left on line at www.beckerdyer.com.
Jackie R. White was born on Nov. 26, 1956 in Johnson County, Tennessee the son of Robert H. and Juanita E. (Ellis) White. He attended Bellevue grade school and Atchison High School. Mr. White worked as a carpet installer for the White Carpet Installation, Atchison, KS. He enjoyed old cars, motorcycles, and camping.
He was married to Joanne Chambers on Nov. 26, 2003. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include his mother, Mrs. Juanita White, Atchison, a son; Michael White, Atchison, KS. a daughter; Mrs. Jackie Helmstetter, Robinson, KS., a step-son, Ryan Chalfant, Elwood, KS., three brothers; Herbert J. White, Rick White and Randy White, all of Atchison, KS., three sisters; Doris Turner, Elizabethton, TN., Carion McConnell, and Sandra White, both of Atchison, KS. five grandchildren and fourteen nieces and nephews. His father, and one brother, Willie White preceded him in death.
