TRACY CITY -- Mrs. Henrietta Meeks, 79, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001.
Survivors include sons, Phillip and Benton Meeks, Tracy City, Charles Meeks, Trion, Ga., Paul Meeks, Murfreesboro; daughters, Willie Mae Nunley, Tracy City, Carlene Willys, N.H.; sister, Lorene Morgan, Ga.; 23 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. CDT Saturday at Mount Ararat Congregational Methodist Church.
Burial will be in Clouse Hill Cemetery.
The family is receiving visitors at the church.
Arrangements are by Cumberland Funeral Home, Tracy City, Tenn. (931) 592-6860.

Charlie Oliver
NIOTA -- Charlie Oliver, 89, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001.
Longtime member of the Democratic Party, served as chairman of the party in McMinn County for many years and was active in the state and national Democratic Party. Member of Union-McMinn Baptist Church and former owner of Olivers Trading Post and Niota Skating Rink.
Survived by wife of 61 years, Grace Matthews Oliver of Niota; and two sisters, Clyo Irwin of Decatur and Bertha Womac of Athens.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home.
Burial in Niota Cemetery.
Family will receive friends today from 6-8 p.m. at Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home in Athens, Tenn.

Hattie Simmons
KNOXVILLE -- Hattie Juanita Maddox Simmons, 75, most beloved wife and mother, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at Fort Sanders Parkwest Medical Center, ending her heroic battle with multiple myeloma.
She was an active member of Second Baptist Church of Knoxville until her illness. She graduated from Claiborne County High School and attended the University of Tennessee. She had retired from a successful career as a professional nurse and many years of property rentals.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Margaret Cheatham Maddox; six sisters, Zellar Neely, Ruth Harmon, Dante Butler, Flora McBee, Ellen Wyatt and Arene Wyatt; four brothers, Odie, Horace, Glen and Lawrence Maddox.
She is survived by her devoted family; husband of 53 blessed years, C.L. Simmons Sr.; and their two children, Dr. Carl Simmons Jr. and wife Nancy of Knoxville. SuzAnne S. Deacon and husband, John, of Chattanooga; two grandchildren, Jonathan and Lee Ann Simmons; sisters, Ruby Hughes, Lorine Davis and Elsie Hodges; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and a host of good friends. She will be so very missed.
The body will lie in state from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Second Baptist Church, 2909 N. Broadway with the service to follow at 11 a.m. Saturday at Second Baptist Church with Dr. Carl Simmons, Dr. Ronnie Owens and Rev. Robert Simmons officiating.
Interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery on Tazewell Pike, following prayers.
Her family and friends will be receiving at Stevens Mortuary from 6-9 p.m. today, April 13, 2001.
Nephews will be pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.
Stevens Mortuary, Oglewood Avenue at Broadway in charge.

Willis Teague
CLEVELAND -- Willis Paul Teague, 66, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001.
He was reared in the Eastdale Community of Chattanooga. He was a retired veteran with 20 years of service in the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, and worked at C.F. Industries. He was a member of Valley Head United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 81, 40 and Eight Voiture 735 and the Fleet Rescue Association.
He was preceded in death by parents, Levi and Bessie Teague; sister, Anna Maude Fox; and brother, Robert Teague.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Teague; two sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Jan Teague, Kevin and Cindy Teague, all of Cleveland; five grandchildren; one sister, Robert Henley of Huntsville, Ala.; two brothers, James Teague of Chula Vista, Calif., J.T. Teague of Yatesville, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with interment in Fort Hill Veterans Cemetery.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Margaret Watson
CLEVELAND -- Margaret Williamson Watson, 79, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. today at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home.

Lonnie Britton
FLINTSTONE -- Lonnie Britton, 89, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at his residence.
He moved from Jackson County, Ala., to Chattanooga in 1922, moving to Rossville in 1983. Mr. Britton had been a choir director in several churches in North Georgia and East Tennessee, including Riverside Baptist, Dry Valley Baptist and Clearview Baptist Church, and was currently a member of Edgewood Baptist Church. He had been an employee of Standard-Coosa-Thatcher for 37 years and was preceded in death by a brother, Virgil Levi Britton.
Survivors are wife, Bertha Britton; son, Lawrence W. (Sonny) Britton, East Ridge; daughter, Bobbie Fant, Ringgold; grandchildren, Lynn Fant Burke, Hixson, Britt Fant, Costa Mesa, Calif., Drenda Fant Paulson, Oakwood, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Lindsey, Matthew, Kelly Paulson and Garrett Fant.
Services will be held 11 a.m. today in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Champ Agan officiating.
Interment in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.
Active pallbearers will be Marlin Paulson, Arnold Eaves, Allen Crowe, Matthew Paulson, Mike Paulson and Larry Burke.
Honorary pallbearers will be Fishers of Mens Sunday School Class of Edgewood Baptist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Blood Assurance, 700 E. Third St., Chattanooga, TN 37403.
Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home, Battlefield Parkway.

Marion Bryant
RINGGOLD -- Marion "Mo" Bryant, 77, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, in a local hospital.
Mr. Braynt, a native of Birmingham, Ala., had been a resident of North Georgia for the past 25 years. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of WWII, serving as a B-24 bomber pilot. He was retired from Provident Insurance Co., where he was employed as a corporate jet pilot.
Survivors include two daughters, Sue Tompkins of Atlanta, Barbara Winger of Nashville; one sister, Jean Ellis of Orange Beach, Ala.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Bryant.
Graveside services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. CDT at the Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham with the Rev. Carroll Allen officiating.
The family will receive friends today from 5-7 p.m. at the Wallis-Stewart Funeral home in Ringgold.

Charles Catlett
MARIETTA -- Charles Phillip "Chuck" Catlett, 42, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at his residence.
Chuck graduated from Gordon-Lee High School, University of Georgia; former news anchor for Channel 2 in Huntsville, Ala. Formerly worked for NASA of Huntsville, he was employed as senior manager of client interactive service for BellSouth Systems in Atlanta.
Survived by his parents, Donna and Claude Lewis of Chickamauga; father, Charles Phillip Catlett Sr., Huntsville; son, Charles Tyler Catlett, Huntsville; sisters, Noel Pearce, Dallas, Ga., and Nichole Stec, Chicago, Ill.; brothers, Michael "Chip" Catlett of Chickamauga, David "Cotton" Catlett of Ooltewah and Clay Catlett Jr. of Chickamauga.
Graveside service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in Chickamauga Cemetery. Service conducted by Rev. J.L. Sharp.
Interment in Chickamauga Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m.
The arrangements are by Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home of LaFayette.

Bertha Finnell
FLINTSTONE -- Bertha Bell Tittle Wilson Finnell, 82, passed away at her home Thursday, April 12, 2001.
Mrs. Finnell was a member of Flintstone Baptist Church and a retired bookkeeper from Chattanooga Valley Elementary School. She was also a member of the Homemaker and AARP Club.
She is preceded in death by husband, Albert "J.P." Wilson; daughter, Lula Mae Schandera; granddaughters, Rebecca and Cheri Sledge.
She is survived by two daughters, Janice M. Sledge of Chattanooga, Margaret Ann Weathers of Hixson; two sons, Albert E. Wilson of Chattanooga and James E. Wilson of Flintstone; three sisters, Rachel Compton of Chattanooga, Imogene Jacks of Cleveland and Martha Denton of Jacksonville, Ark.; three brothers, Crofford Tittle of High Point, Luther Tittle of Chattanooga and John Tittle of Chattanooga; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2001, in the funeral home chapel.
Interment will follow at Humphrey Cemetery.
The family will receive friends all day today and until funeral time Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Hutcheson Hospice, Fort Ogelthorpe.

Mildred Head
CONLEY -- Mildred Louise Head, 79, died Friday, April 6, 2001, in Atlanta, Ga.
A former resident of Chattanooga, she was a longtime resident of Conley. Mrs. Head was retired from General Motors in Atlanta and was of the Presbyterian faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Head; sisters, Edith Gallaher, Florence Sullivan; brothers, James Witt, Alfred Witt.
Survivors are sister, Sarah Hoskins; niece, Betty Evans, both of Chattanooga; nephews, James E. Sullivan, Maurice Dillard, James E. Dillard and Robert D. Shelton, all of Chattanooga, Jerry Wayne Dillard, Morristown.
Graveside services will be held today at 11 a.m. in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East, with Rev. Army Probst officiating.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road.

Jack Johnson Jr.
FORT OGLETHORPE -- Jack Jerome Johnson Jr., 72, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at a local hospital.
A lifelong resident of the North Georgia area, he was a retired truck driver of RCA Freight Lines of Chattanooga. He was a member of the Teamsters Local No. 515 and of the Lutheran faith.
He was preceded in death by father, Jack Johnson Sr.; and brother, Ralph Johnson.
He is survived by wife, Erma Ruth Callahan Johnson of Fort Oglethorpe; mother, Sally Johnson of Chattanooga; three daughters, Glenda Wright of Ringgold, Diane Tate of Fort Oglethorpe and Wanda Diane Cabe of Fort Oglethorpe; three sons, Tommy J. Johnson of Fort Oglethorpe, Gay Lee Johnson of Rossville and Justin Cabe of Fort Oglethorpe; four sisters, Mary Fitzpatrick of Athens, Tenn., Mae Blake of Chattanooga, Betty Lynn of Virginia and Carolyn Holbrook of Chattanooga; brother, Ricky Johnson of Chattanooga; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
A private funeral service will be held Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Betty Latham officiating.
Arrangements are by W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home, Fort Oglethorpe, Ga.

Donald McNabb
ROSSVILLE -- Donald H. McNabb, 53, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001.
Survivors include his mother, Willie Ruth McNabb; daughters, Crystal Mc-Nabb and Christina Edgeman; three grandchildren; two sisters; three brothers; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Lane, Coulter Chapel with Leroy Webb officiating.
Interment: Chattanooga Memorial Park.
Family will receive friends after 3 p.m. today.
Arrangements by Lane, Coulter Chapel, 601 Ashland Terrace.

William Snider
CHICKAMAUGA -- William Thomas Snider, 88, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, in Chickamauga.
He was a retiree of Crystal Springs Textiles and a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death were three wives, Nora Mae Durham Snider, Emma Lucille Hill Snider and Alice Nance Snider; two sons, William Martin Snider and Thomas H. Snider; parents, Tom and Maggie Snider; brothers, Jimmy and Virgil Snider; and one sister, Ester Snider.
Survivors include three daughters, Joyce Rice, Chatsworth, Betty Manning, Pensacola, and Gladys Blair, Cleveland, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Wilton Grimes officiating.
Burial will be in Old Antioch Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are by J. Avery Bryan Funeral Home in Chickamauga.

Bertha Taylor
SUMMERVILLE -- Bertha Taylor, 84, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001.
Funeral and interment today, April 13, at 2 p.m. from graveside at Greenhills Memory Gardens.
Visitation: today, April 13, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home has charge of services.

Mary Watson
RINGGOLD -- Mary Evelyn Gilbert Watson, 65, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at her home.
She was a member of Midway Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her son, Bobby Blevins.
She is survived by husband, Roy William "Bill" Watson Jr.; daughter, Jean Irwin of Williston, Fla.; sons, Donnie Watson of Ringgold, Ga., Johnny Brock of East Ridge, Tenn., and Vince Dean of East Ridge, Tenn.; five grandchildren; sisters, Robbie Hise of Kensington, Ga., Sue McGuire of Hixson; brothers, Tony Gilbert of Navarre, Fla., and Frankie Gilbert of Nashville, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be 11:30 a.m. today, April 13, 2001, North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, with Rev. Jackie Swanson officiating.
The interment will follow the service in Hamilton Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Arrangements by North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 5401 Highway 153.

METAIRIE, La. -- Bobby C. Lemons, 61, died Monday, April 9, 2001, after a brief illness.
He was a native of Rossville, Ga., and a resident of Metairie, La., for the past 35 years. He was an operating engineer with the Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Public Health Service Hospital, General Services Administration and the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, La., and worked with Sears, Roebuck and Co., in Metairie, La. He received numerous commendations and awards for his service.
He was preceded in death by his father, James David Lemons.
He is survived by his mother, Minnie Langford Bullard; four daughters, Elizabeth Lemons Stone, Texas City, Texas, Tammy Lemons Rogers, Sugerland, Texas, Kathy Lemons Stoops, Spring, Texas, Janae' Marie Lemons, Metairie, La.; one son, Troy Anthony Lemons, Metairie, La.; three grandchildren, Julie Ann Stone, Jason Lee Stone, Candace Rogers; one stepgrandson, Cody Stoops; two great-grandchildren; Christopher Garcia and Andrew Garcia.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, 1 p.m., in the chapel of W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold Reed officiating.
Local arrangements are by W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home, Fort Oglethorpe, Ga.
