Aveleen Fahrner, 74, formerly of Spring Valley
Aveleen Fahrner, 74, of Ah-Gwah-Ching died at the Ah-Gwah-Ching Nursing Home Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000. She was born in Scobey, Mont., to G. William Norgren and Agnes Ostrum Norgren Dec. 12, 1925. She was united in marriage to Leslie J. Fahrner Dec. 17, 1957, in Mazatlan, Mexico. Her husband served in the military for 31 years. He died Oct. 15, 1973.
She liked to ride horses, lively conversation and watching soaps. She operated a gift store in Guam for 13 years and collected items from many different countries. She and her husband retired to Spring Valley and lived here for many years.
There are no immediate survivors.
Services were Tuesday, Oct. 3, at the Hindt-Hutchins Funeral Home in Spring Valley. Burial in our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery in Spring Valley.

Mary Fehrenkamp, 66, of Preston
Mary Fehrenkamp, 66, of Preston, formerly of Rochester and Mazeppa, died of cancer on Tuesday morning, March 28, 2000, at her home.
She was born Nov. 21, 1933, in Rochester to Andrew and Ione (Collins) Liegl. She graduated from Rochester High School in 1951 and worked at Mayo Clinic. On Nov. 7, 1952, she married Roy Fehrenkamp at United Methodist Church in Rochester. They lived in Florida from 1961 until moving to Mazeppa in 1974.
Mrs. Fehrenkamp worked in the hospital assignment department at Mayo Clinic for 20 years and retired in 1994. She and her husband moved to Preston in 1997. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Pine Island and enjoyed antiquing.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Scott and Jeff, both of Rochester, and Greg of Jacksonville, Fla.; six grandchildren and two brothers, Johnny Liegl of Rochester and James Liegle of Minneapolis.
Funeral services were held Thursday at United Methodist Church in Pine Island. Burial was in the Pine Island Cemetery. Mahn Family Funeral Home-Mahler Chapel in Pine Island was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to Mayo Hospice or American Cancer Society.

Mary Fenstermacher, 70, sister of SV man
Mary P. Fenstermacher, 70, of Hibbing, died Saturday, March 11, 2000, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth.
She was born July 14, 1929, in Waseca, Minn., to Clark and Irene Patten. She married Donald Fenstermacher April 22, 1949, and they made their home in Hibbing in 1967. She was an active member of St. Mary's Church and was a cake decorator for many area weddings and special occasions.
She is survived by three daughters, Lana Casaw of Mendota Heights, Minn., Linda (Jack) Sapan of Rochester, Minn., and Dianne Taylor of White Bear Lake, Minn.; a son, Michael (Becky) Fenstermacher of Hibbing; a brother, Richard (Arlene) Patten of Spring Valley; two sisters, Charlene Healy of Rochester, Minn., and Janice Patten of Jacksonville, Fla.; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996.
Funeral services were Tuesday, March 14, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Keewatin. Burial will be in Spring Valley.

Lawrence Ferguson, 89, formerly of SV
Lawrence Ferguson, 89, of rural Lake City, a retired construction worker, died Wednesday afternoon, May 10, 2000, at Lake City Hospital-Mayo Health System.
He was born Jan. 5, 1911, in Jordan Township, Fillmore County, and attended Chatfield area schools. On March 19, 1947, he married Beverly Jean Finley in Cresco, Iowa. They lived on a farm in rural Chatfield for nine years, then in California for two years and in Oregon for a short time before moving to Spring Valley. In 1964, they moved to Mazeppa, later lived in Mantorville and Wisconsin, and returned to the Lake City area in the 1990s.
Mr. Ferguson was employed by Alvin Benike Construction Co. for many years and then worked at Gilbertson Feeders in Dodge Center until his retirement. His wife was a domestic worker. She died in 1970.
Survivors include three daughters, Jeannette (Nick) Poncelet of Lake City, Cassie Erickson of Union, Mo., and Linda (Randy) Starkson of West Concord; five sons, Richard (JoAnn) of Diamond Bluff, Wis., Stanley (Rose) of New Richland, Minn., Ricky (Faye) of Pine Island, Roger of Wanamingo and Leroy (Kim) of Lake City; 25 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Gladys Grive of Chatfield; and two brothers, Lloyd (Lillian) of Eleva, Wis., and John (Emma) of Chatfield. Two sisters and a brother preceded him in death.
The funeral was Saturday at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel. Burial was in Mazeppa Cemetery.

Donald Fifield, 82, formerly of Harmony
Donald C. Fifield, 82, of East Moline, Ill., formerly of the Harmony area, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at Forest Hill Health and Rehabilitation Center in East Moline.
He was born Dec. 30, 1916, in Cresco, Iowa, the son of Clinton and Hazel Morrison Fifield. He spent his childhood on a farm just five miles south of Harmony. He married Margaret J. Boden on Oct. 22, 1947, in Rock Island. She died July 10, 1994.
He was a graduate of Cedar Rapids Business College and served as an electrician for Alcoa for 30 years, retiring in 1979. He served with the Navy Seabees during World War II.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Roy Coldwell of East Moline; a son-in-law, Robert Leech of Lake Worth; five grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and two sisters, Marion Allen of Rockport, Texas, and Mardelle Cordero of Warner Springs, Calif.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Anita Leech, in 1997.
Funeral services were Dec. 30 at Wheelan Funeral Home in Rock Island, Ill. Burial was in the National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, with military rites conducted by Moline American Legion Post 246, of which he was a member.

Laurence Finbraaten, 66, formerly of GM
Laurence Kermit "Larry" Finbraaten, 66, of Marshfield, Wis., formerly of Grand Meadow, died Monday, April 17, 2000, in the emergency room of St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.
Born March 24, 1934, in Grand Meadow, he graduated from Grand Meadow High School and was a 1956 graduate of St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn. After graduating from Naval Officers Candidate School and Naval War College in Newport, R.I., he served 23 years as a naval officer and retired with the rank of commander. He and his wife had lived on a small dairy farm at Lincoln since 1980. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Lincoln and was zoning administrator for the town of Lincoln.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, John of Marshfield and Kevin (Tonia) of Minneapolis; three daughters, Kristin (Thomas) Kotz of Milwaukee and Erika Finbraaten and Lauren Finbraaten, both of Portland, Ore.; two grandchildren; and a sister, Adeline Madsen of Minneapolis. Two brothers preceded him in death.
The funeral was Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Wood County, Wis., with the Rev. Daniel J. Behnke officiating. Burial was in Bear Creek Lutheran Cemetery in Grand Meadow.

Emerson Finke, formerly of Cherry Grove
Emerson Dale Finke, 80, of Chatfield, formerly of Cherry Grove and Harmony, died of lung cancer on Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at his home. He was the retired co-owner of Ace Linoleum Shop in Rochester.
He was born Oct. 9, 1919, at the family home in Cherry Grove. He attended Cherry Grove schools through the eighth grade and then worked with his father on the farm and with a brother running a steam engine sawing lumber. A floor covering mechanic for many years, he began his career as an employee of the Ace Linoleum Shop in Rochester and for 18 years before his retirement, co-owned the business with Loren Bennett.
On Oct. 6, 1940, he married Audre Goldsworthy in Harmony. They lived in Memphis, Tenn., while he was a firefighter at the Memphis Naval Air Station during World War II and had also resided in Harmony, Cherry Grove and Rochester. His wife was office manager at Ace Linoleum until 1981 when they sold the business and retired.
The couple had resided in the assisted living apartments at Chosen Valley Care Center since 1997. Interested in aviation all his life, he became a pilot as a young man, bought a share in Pietenpol Aircamper at age 19, later owned two aircraft and rented others. He enjoyed reading aviation books. He had traveled throughout the country and enjoyed attending family events and reading western novels.
Survivors include his wife, a son, Denny (Sherry) of LaGrange, Ohio; three grandchildren, four great grandchildren; a brother, Raymond, of Chatfield; and a sister Bernice (Loyal) Brusse, of Canton. Two brothers preceded him in death.
Memorial services were held on Monday in the chapel at Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield with the Rev. Mark Rader officiating.

Betty Lou Finkelson, 49, sister of SV man
Betty Lou Finkelson, 49, of Austin, a supervisor for handicapped housing at REM Woodvale Inc., died Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Betty Lou Betsinger was born July 13, 1950, in Austin. On Jan. 31, 1970, she married Richard Finkelson at Queen of Angels Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Shannon Finkelson of Hopkins, Minn.; a son, Chad of Austin; six brothers, Lester (Fern) Betsinger of Albany, Ill., Robert Betsinger and Virgil (Michelle) Betsinger both of Autora, Ill., Russell (Joanie) Betsinger of Spring Valley, William (Karyl) Betsinger of Blaine, Minn., and Richard (Pat) Betsinger of Brooklyn Center, Minn., and a sister, Nancy (Emery) Eckert of Cedar Falls, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and a sister.
The funeral Mass was held Saturday at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin with the Rev. Virgil Duellman officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Austin.

Clayton E. Fishbaugher, 77, brother of SV man
Clayton E. Fishbaugher, 77, of Preston, died Thursday morning, March 30, 2000, at his home following a short illness.
He was born Sept., 2, 1922, in Bristol Township in Fillmore County to John D. and Bernice (Scrabeck) Fishbaugher. He graduated from Harmony High School in 1943. After graduation, he attended the University of Minnesota in St. Paul. In 1944, he volunteered to serve in the U.S. Army and was captured by the Germans during the Battle of the Bulge. He was a prisoner of war for five months and was hospitalized in England before returning to the United States. As a veteran and former P.O.W., he remained a charter member of the VFW and served as a commander of both the VFW and American Legion. In 1947, he married Ellyn Bell of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They lived in Harmony and in 1950 moved to Preston.
In 1950, he was elected Fillmore County treasurer. He served in that capacity for 28 years. He then worked as an accountant for the Preston Lumber Yard until his retirement.
In addition to the American Legion and VFW, he was active in the Preston United Methodist Church and served as church treasurer for many years. He was a past member of the Lions Club, past treasurer of the Minnesota State Treasurer's Association and actively supported sobriety as a leader of the Preston chapter of AA.
He is survived by his wife; one son, Bruce (Kathy) of Preston; one daughter, Marilyn Ann (Mrs. Dana W.) Frey of Bishkek, Kyrgyzstal; five grandchildren; one step grandchild; seven great-grandchildren; and three step great- grandchildren. They are John and Kristin Fishbaugher and their children, Clay, Alex and Emilee; Allyson and Steve Bahl and their children, Sam, Ross, Riley and Briana, all of Preston; David and Sarah Fishbaugher and their daughter, Makaura of Glover, Vt., Melinda and Jason Hurley and their children, Meghan and Brady of Richfield, Minn., Benjamin Hothum of Frankfurt, Germany, and Jennifer Frey of Minneapolis. Additional survivors include one sister, Phyliss (Gene) Hageman; three brothers, Harvey (Marlene) Fishbaugher, Stanley (Dolly) Fishbaugher, all of Harmony, and Robert of Spring Valley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jack and Orrin, and a great-grandson, Maxwell.
Funeral services were Monday at the Preston United Methodist Church with the Rev. Anthony Fink officiating. Burial was in the Crown Hill Cemetery with military rites performed by the Preston American Legion and VFW posts. Thauwald Funeral Home in Preston was in charge of arrangements.

Vilda G. Flattum, 80, of Lanesboro
Vilda G. Flattum, 80, of Lanesboro, a homemaker, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, at the emergency room of Saint Marys Hospital, Rochester.
She was born Vilda G. Blagsvedt on Dec. 17, 1919, in rural Lanesboro, Amherst Township, Fillmore County. On Sept. 21, 1940, she married Victor Flattum at the Highland Prairie Lutheran Church parsonage in rural Peterson. Her husband farmed and worked at the state fish hatchery in Lanesboro. They lived in rural Lanesboro until moving into town in 1984. She was a member of Elstad Lutheran Church and its WELCA, Mary Circle and choir.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Sharon (Robert) Knutson of Lanesboro, Deborah (Dennis) Jones of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Sandra (Mark) Everson of Rochester; a son Loren (Connie) of St. Paul; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Calma (Russell) Hanson of Lanesboro and Alpha Berland of Whalan. An infant sister preceded her in death.
The funeral was Wednesday at Elstad Lutheran Church in rural Lanesboro. Burial was in the church cemetery. Johnson-Riley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Carolyn M. Flentje, 80, formerly of SV
Carolyn Flentje, formerly of Spring Valley, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at St. Luke's Lutheran Care Center in Blue Earth.
She was born Aug. 13, 1919, in Blue Earth and grew up in that area. She married Bob Hawley Nov. 21, 1938, in Blue Earth and they later farmed in the Spring Valley area for several years. He died in 1954 and she moved back to Blue Earth. She married Ward Willmert in June 1966, in Blue Earth and he died in 1975. On March 11, 1989, she married Howard R. Flentje in Blue Earth.
She was a homemaker and nurse at Blue Earth Community Hospital and St. Luke's Lutheran Care Center for nearly 30 years. She was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her husband; three sons, Terry Hawley of Blue Earth, John Hawley of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Robert Hawley of Wildomar, Calif.; two daughters, Evonne (Mrs. Homer) Hickok of Austin and Karen (Mrs. Lloyd) Koestler of Blue Earth; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Armond Dobson of Blue Earth; a sister, Lazetta Anderson of Blue Earth; three stepsons, Roger Willmert of Brooklyn Center, Minn., Donald Flentje of White Bear Lake, Minn., and Gerald Flentje of Burnsville, Minn.; and two step-daughters, Sharon Willmert of Germany and Marvis (Mrs. Norman) Risuis of Lake Mills, Iowa.
The funeral was Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Blue Earth with the Rev. Karl Hollibaugh officiating. Burial was in Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery in Spring Valley.

Nina M. Folkedahl, 90, of Mabel
Nina M. Folkedahl, 90, of Mabel, died Sunday, March 12, 2000, at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel.
Nina Nelson was born May 15, 1909 in Highland Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa, to Nels and Flora (Darrington) Nelson. She attended the Grindeland Country School near Hesper, Iowa. On Nov. 25, 1931, she married Andrew Folkedahl in Decorah, Iowa. The couple lived in the Mabel and Hesper areas their entire lives. Her husband died on Feb. 8, 1991. She has been a resident at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel since 1998. She was a member of the Hesper Lutheran Church and enjoyed flowers and gardening.
She is survived by two sons, Forrest of Hesper, and Nanford "Buck" of Marengo, Iowa; three daughters, Mavis Rilling of Hesper, Odis (Mrs. John) Fossum of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, and Lola (Mrs. Robin) Foltz of Hesper; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Gene; a grandson, Troy; five brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 16, at the Hesper Lutheran Church in Hesper, Iowa, with the Rev. Hans Floan officiating. Burial will be in the Hesper Public Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the church.

Ethel Ford, 84, once of Mabel
Ethel Ford, 84, of Williamsburg, Va., and formerly of Mabel, died at her home Dec. 5, 2000.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Leonard Ford; a son, Carlyle (Kathy) Ford; a granddaughter, Lynn Starling, all of Williamsburg; a sister, Pearl Peterson of Jordan, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Dec. 9, at Our Savior's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Norge, Va.
The family requests memorials be given to the improvement fund at the Garness Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Mabel, in Ethel Ford’s memory.

Rev. James P. E. Ford, 98, formerly of area
Rev. James Perry Elijah Ford, 98, of McPherson, Kansas, died Saturday, Oct. 14, at Memorial Hospital of McPherson, Kansas.
He was born April 17, 1902, at rural Alva, Okla., to John and Anna (Hawkins) Ford.
He attended school in Oklahoma and then attended Bethany Bible School in Chicago, Ill., and McPherson College, Kansas, before receiving his college degree from Northern Baptist Seminary in Chicago in 1940. He earned his master of theology degree from Bethany Theological Seminary in Chicago in 1941, when he was ordained in the Church of the Brethren. He was later ordained in the United Church of Christ Congregational Church.
He served pastorates in Wiley, Colo., and Preston, Minn., for the Church of the Brethren and later served pastorates in Minnesota, Iowa, and Kansas for the Congregational United Church of Christ.
He had lived in McPherson since 1973, moving there from Rochester, Minn.
He married Eva Bernice Bolinger July 2, 1928. She died April 22, 1939.
He married Margaret Helen Dresher at Canton, Kansas, Aug. 16, 1940.
Survivors include his wife, two sons, James and Peter; two daughters, Donna and Merry; one sister, Esther; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 19 at the Church of the Brethren, McPherson, Kansas with the Rev. Charles Whitacre and Rev. Chris Whitacre officiating. Burial of Cremains taking place later at Canton, Kansas.
Memorials may be given to Church of the Brethren, McPherson; Habitat for Humanity; The Cedars Health Care Center, McPherson; or the McPherson College.

Viola Forrester, 76, of Preston
Viola Emma Forrester, 76, of Preston, died Monday, Aug. 28, 2000, at Preston Good Samaritan Care Center.
She was born Sept. 24, 1923, in Jordan, Minn., to Fritz and Clara (Kohlmeyer) Witte. She was a charter member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Austin. She enjoyed camping, cooking, and her grandchildren. She married (Francis (Bud) Forrester. Together they lived a full and happy life, blessed with family and good friends.
She is survived by two sons, Gary (Butch) Carol (Toots) Forrester aand Dan Forrester, both of Austin, Minn.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Liz Deyo and one brother, Lyman Witte, both of St. Paul, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Dennis Forrester, four brothers and one sister.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Don Deines officiating. Interment was in the Spring Valley Cemetery.

Thomas J. Forthun, 77, formerly of Preston
Thomas J. Forthun, 77, of Rochester, formerly of the Preston area, died Tuesday morning, May 23, 2000, at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester, following a short illness.
He was born March 2, 1923, in Fountain Township, the son of John and Hazel (Kemple) Forthun. He farmed in rural Preston until his retirement in the early 1970s. He then made his home in Alma, Wis., and moved to Rochester in 1982.
He is survived by one sister, Leone Serum of Alma; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held Saturday at the Thauwald Funeral Home in Preston. His body was cremated and burial of his ashes will take place at a later date in Crown Hill Cemetery in Preston.
Thauwald Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Glenn Eugene Fossum, 63, Harmony
Glenn Eugene Fossum died at his home on April 16, 2000, from cancer at the age of 63 years.
He was born April 16, 1937, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Thor and Irene (Bryant) Fossum. He was confirmed in 1953 and attended school in Preston. In 1957 he joined the Army. After serving two years in the Army, he returned to Preston and worked for various farmers.
He was united in marriage to Bonnie Hongerholt on July 29, 1961. In April 1968 he started working for Harmony Agri Services. While driving truck, he met many wonderful and caring people. He retired in April 1999 and continued to work part time at the Agri Services until Nov. 1999. He loved fishing, the outdoors, music, going to Winona on weekends, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, a daughter, Glenda of Winona; his brothers, Ardell (Bonnie) Fossum of Canton, Bob (Joyce) Fossum of Canton, Curtis of Monticello, Arden of Mabel, and Richard of Preston; and his sisters, Janice (Vernon) Soland of Pine Island, and Doris (Darrell) McCabe of Lanesboro; along with nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Gregory M. Fossum; his mother and father, Irene and Thor; a brother, Donald and a sister, Dorothy Soland; along with nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at Greenfield Lutheran Church in Harmony.
Lindstrom Funeral Service handled arrangements.

Inez Mildred Fossum, 87,of Spring Grove
Inez Mildred Fossum, 87, of Spring Grove, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at Tweeten Lutheran Health Services in Spring Grove.
She was born Dec. 23, 1912, in Spring Grove, to Bernt and Anna (Erickson) Onsgard. She was baptized and confirmed by Pastor A.O. Johnson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. She was the valedictorian of her 1931 Spring Grove High School graduating class. She also graduated from the Nell Bryan Teacher training course.
In 1933, she married William Fossum and in 1999, they celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Mr. Fossum died on Jan. 4, 2000.
Mrs. Fossum worked 14 years at the Spring Grove factory for Mansfield, Argus and control data. She worked at Skiftons and Solberg grocery for 11 years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove, where she had been an active member of Alter Guild for 10 years, a Sunday school teacher for 10 years, and on the communication commission for 12 years.
Survivors include three sons, DeWayne (Alice) of Golden Valley, Minn., Verdell (Lennie) of Decorah, Iowa, and Roger (Christine) of Rockford, Minn.; six grandchildren, Cheryl, Robert (Clara), Jay, Daniel, Karin and Emily; one brother, Burnell (Clara) Onsgard of Spring Grove; three great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Sarah and Janelle; two sisters-in-law, Gilma and Arlene Onsgard, both of Spring Grove; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Maurice, Owen and Kenneth Onsgard, a sister, Thelma Iola, in infancy, and a sister-in-law, Irene (Onsgard) Trehus.
Funeral services were held on Saturday at Trinity Lutheran in Spring Grove with the Pastor Jim Arends officiating. Burial was held in the Trinity Church cemetery. Roble Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

William 'Bill' Fossum, 87, of Spring Grove
William (Bill) Arnold Fossum, 87, of Spring Grove, died Jan 4, 2000.
He was born Oct. 7, 1912, in Wilmington Township to Albert and Amanda (Qualy) Fossum. He was baptized and confirmed at the Wilmington Lutheran Church. After rural grade school, he graduated from Spring Grove High School in 1930. He married Inez Onsgard and they had three sons.
He operated the Phillip 66 service station in Spring Grove for six years. He then took a defense job in the shipyards in Wilmington, Calif. He worked for Roverud Construction Co. for many years. While employed by them he also worked on the Alcon Highway in British Columbia, Canada, in 1943. He was in partnership at Anderson-Fossum Appliance Store in Spring Grove. Later, he was employed at Mansfield and Argus until the factory moved to Columbia, S. C. He was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department for many years. For eight years he was a custodian at Spring Grove Public School until he retired in 1975. That graduating class dedicated the yearbook to him. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove.
Survivors include his wife of Spring Grove; three sons, DeWayne (Alice) of Golden Valley, Minn., Verdell (Lennie) of Decorah and Roger (Christine) of Rockford, Minn.; six grandchildren, Cheryl, Robert, Jay, Daniel, Karin and Emily; three great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Sarah and Jenelle; nephews Ove Fossum Jr., and Donald Fossum; and nieces Helen McMillen and Mary Ann Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Ove Fossum Sr.; a sister, Alice Horton; a nephew, Richard Fossum, and a brother, Arvil, who died in infancy.
Funeral services were Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. Burial was in the Trinity Church Cemetery. The Rev. Jim Arends officiated.
Roble Funeral Home in Spring Grove was in charge of arrangements.

Alice Jestness Foster, 84, formerly of Preston
Alice Jestness Foster, 84, of Rochester, formerly of Preston, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, at Seasons Hospice in Rochester after a short illness with pancreatic cancer.
She was born Nov. 19, 1915, in Lanesboro, the daughter of Nels and Ida (Torgerson) Hanson. She attended country school near Lanesboro and lived there until 1930 when her family moved to Preston. She married Clarence Jestness on Nov. 2, 1933 in Lanesboro. He died June 10, 1957.
She worked at several restaurants and the Green Drug Store in Preston.
In 1964 she married Harold Foster and he died in 1965. In 1989 she moved to Rochester.
She is survived by one son, Nathan (Lorraine) Jestness of Rochester; three grandchildren, LaRita (John) Henneman of Grantsburg Wis., Jayme (Carrie) Jestness of Pleasant Grove, Minn., and Tim (Pam) Jestness of Savannah, Ga.; five great-grandsons, Chase, Alex and Christopher Jestness and Lucus and Ethan Henneman; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Travis and Ashley Richardson; and one sister, Mrs. George Klema.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Thursday), Nov. 2, at Christ Lutheran Church in Preston with the Revs. James Rushton and Bernard Daiker officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery in Preston.
Thauwald Funeral Home in Preston is in charge of arrangements.

Irene Anna Freimark, 92, of Spring Valley
Irene Anna Freimark, 92, of Spring Valley, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at the Spring Valley Care Center, where she had resided for approximately two years.
She was born Jan. 25, 1908, in rural Spring Valley Township and attended School District 156 through the 8th grade.
On Oct. 2, 1934, she was united in marriage with John Freimark at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wykoff. She was a homemaker and farmed with her husband until their retirement. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, raising flowers, selling produce to many different customers and she also loved to cook and bake. She was a charter member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Spring Valley and was a member of the Hannah Circle.
She is survived by two daughters, Darlene (Art) Jordahl of Rochester, and Janice (Marlo) Mensink of Cherry Grove, Minn.; three sons, Ronald Freimark of Sleepy Eye, Minn., Gerald (Connie) Freimark of Whitehall, Wis., and Kenneth (Bonita) Freimark of Stillwater, Minn.; 14 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Earl Meyer of Spring Valley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John, in 1998; a daughter-in-law, Lorayne; a grandson; a granddaughter; three sisters, Alma Krahn, Ella Meyer and Esther Butler; and three brothers, Herbert, Frank and Arthur.
The funeral was Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Spring Valley with the Rev. Kevin Woestehoff officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Hindt-Hutchins Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
