Robert Calvin “Bob” Poore, 88, of Magnolia Manor, widower of Virgie Bell Gibson Poore, died Friday, June 30, 2006 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Calvin and Mattie Lou Hartness Poore. He was the retired owner of the second generation of Poore Electric, a former member of the Moose Lodge and a member of Tranquil United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Ann P. McMahan of Atlanta; three sons, Wayne Poore, William Poore and James Poore, all of Greenwood; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
Services are 3 p.m. Sunday at Tranquil United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Luke Mimms.
Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are Bryan Poore, Chris Poore, Jason Stewart, Don Riggins, Bill Clinkscales and Mark Duvall.
Honorary escorts are Charlie McDade and Randy Manley.

J.B. Powell
WARE SHOALS — J.B. Powell, 80, of 6 Circle St., husband of Eulala Small Powell, died Friday, June 30, 2006 at Hospice House of the Piedmont.
A native of Royston, Ga., he was a son of Bertha Powell. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of Church of God of Prophecy.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Gary Powell of Hodges; a daughter, Betty P. Ashley of Hodges; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Services are 4 p.m. Sunday at Parker-White Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Larry McCall, the Rev. Dewayne Willis and Mark Lowe. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Mike Kernells, Don Hovis, Paul Bowen, Cecil Boggs, James Lyerly and Billy Small.
Visitation is 3-4 Sunday at the funeral home.

Guy L. Prater
JOANNA, SC – Guy L. Prater, age 83 of 205 Laurens St. died Friday, June 30th at his home.
He was born in Batesburg, SC and was a son of the late Louie and Lillie Rikard Prater.
Mr. Prater was a member of the First Baptist Church of Joanna; the Joanna Men’s Club; played professional baseball in the Brooklyn Dodgers organization from 1946 to 1950. He was retired from Greenwood Mills and was a US Army veteran of WWII.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Willingham Prater of the home; four children, Cynthia P. Wright and husband Kenneth of Blowing Rock, NC, Timothy G. Prater and wife Dell of Pacolet, Melanie P. Young and husband, Calvin of Clinton, Kevin C. Prater and wife Andrea of Greenwood; nine grandchildren, Richard Landrum (Lanny) Wilson and wife Jamie, Lauren Wilson Greene and husband Sid, Tori Wright, Benjamin Guy Prater and Rachel Young Prater, Michael Calvin Young, Jr. and wife Marji, Allyson Marie Young, Nathaniel Prater and Christopher Prater, three great grandchildren, Kimberly Isabella (Ella) Young, Brett Mason Young, Kati Mac Greene; a brother, Hack Prater and wife Cat; two sisters, Marie Roebuck and Betty Nabors; seven nieces and nine nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Rudolph Prater and Ralph C. (Snow) Prater.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, July 2nd at 3:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Joanna, burial in Rosemont Cemetery with Military Honors.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Men’s Sunday School Class and the Joanna Men’s Club members.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

NORTH AUGUSTA — Ruby Robinson died Monday, June 26, 2006 at University Hospital in Augusta, Ga.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Bessie Benson and Gus Waller. She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church and lived at Anne Maria Assisted Living Home for about 20 years.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. John (Ozie) Davis of San Diego.
Services are 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Beulah Baptist Church, with the Rev. Warren G. Gist presiding and Bishop Emanuel Spearman officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30.
Pallbearers are Chris Rucker, John Puckett, Bryant Sanders, Allen Rucker, Jason Puckett, Eugene McBride and Jerry L. Smith.

Merle Schirm, 90, of 11 Royal Oak Drive, husband of Lorraine Moeller Schirm, died Saturday, June 24, 2006 at the home of a daughter in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Billie Jeanne Beaube
FAIRFIELD — Billie Jeanne Beaube, born October 12, 1936 in Louisiana passed away suddenly on July 15, 2006 at 3:10 p.m.
She leaves one sister, Wanda Joy Day, her constant companion; a special nephew, David Dwayne Day and his wife, Rebecca Day who is more than special as well as Jada Elizabeth Day, age 6. Billie leaves numerous family and friends including her church family.
She was preceded in death by her father, Rev. K. D. (Pappy) Beaube; mother, Nellie Lois Butler Beaube and one favorite Uncle, Lewis J. Beaube of Greenwood, SC and his daughters Loretta Reed and Philicia Ann Beaube.
Funeral services will be Thursday, July 20, 7 p.m. at Fairfield Church of God, 6001 Dixie Hwy., Fairfield, with Pastor Darryl McCoy officiating. Visitation is Thursday, July 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church. The Avance Funeral Home & Crematory is serving the family.

WILMINGTON, N.C. — Edgar “Eddie” Reid Blakely III, 51, formerly of Laurens, S.C., died Saturday, July 15, 2006 at his home in Wilmington after a recent illness.

Tevin Denzel Brooks
SALUDA — Tevin Denzel “Red” Brooks, 15, died Saturday, July 15, 2006 in Saluda County from injuries received in an automobile accident.
Born in Greenwood, son of Inez Marie Brooks and Aaron Bernard Rauch. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and a rising tenth grader at Saluda High School, where he was a member of SHS Tigers Varsity Basketball Team and had been accepted as a member of the AAU Boys Basketball Association, the Capital City Show Stoppers.
Survivors include his parents of the home; a brother, Mario Merriweather of Fort Worth, Texas; two sisters, Keisa Brooks-Bacote of Columbia and Doneisha C. Robinson of Rock Hill; maternal grandmother, Pearline Brooks of Saluda; paternal grandfather, Aaron Rauch of Saluda.
Services are 1 p.m. Friday at Saluda High School Gym, conducted by the Rev. Calvin Robinson. The body will be placed in the gym at 11. Burial is in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers are members of SHS Varsity Basketball Team.
Flower bearers are classmates and friends.

Alan Erett
WARE SHOALS — Alan Edward Erett, 43, of 10 Ponderosa Drive, Ware Shoals, entered into eternal rest with his Lord on Sunday, July 16, 2006 at Roper Hospital in Charleston.
Born in Norwalk, CT, he was a son of Richard Edward Erett and June Dove Powell. He was employed as a sales representative for Sara Lee and had served as an officer with the 111th Signal Battalion of the SC National Guard. He was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Temple of Starr.
Alan loved people and he had a host of friends. Most of all, he loved his Lord and enjoyed telling people about Him.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard William Erett and a stepbrother, William H. Powell, Jr.
Surviving is mother and stepfather, June and William H. “Billy” Powell, Sr. of Hodges, who raised him; his father and stepmother, Richard E. and Pat Erett, of St. Petersburg, FL; two daughters, Valerie Davis and Alesia Erett, both of Ware Shoals; a sister, Elaine Erett of Hanahan, SC; two half sisters, Susan and Allison, both of St. Petersburg; a stepsister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Vance Baldwin of Cross Hill; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Ann Erett of Atlanta, GA and Mark and Tracy Powell of Donalds.
Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lamar Babb officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Jefferson, Jerry Lecroy, Alan Freeman, Charles Campbell, Mark Schonker, Gary Griffin and Art Youngblood.

COLUMBIA ­— A Memorial Service for Larry Charles Martin, 59, will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Woodfield Park Baptist Church. An interpreter for the deaf will be provided. Mr. Martin died Tuesday, July 18, 2006. Born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, he was a son of the late Arthur Joseph Martin and Frohnie Clara Schmallenberg Martin. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam Era and a graduate of Midlands Technical College. He was employed with Quest Diagnostics.
Surviving are his wife, Dayna Bernardette Martin; son, Arthur “Artie” Martin of Columbia; daughter, Larrysa Martin of Columbia; grandson, Ethan Martin; brother, Tom Martin of Shreveport, La.; and sister, Jean Dickerson of Aurora, Colo. He was predeceased by a son, Edmonds “Eddie” Bishop Martin, brothers, Leonard and Robert Martin, and sister, Geraldine Martin.

ABBEVILLE — Shawn Doran Sexton, 46, of 1373 Central Shiloh Road, died Monday, July 17, 2006 at his home.
Born in Sanford, Fla., he was a son of the late Frank W. and Elaine Barclay Sexton. He received a bachelor of science degree from Lander College.
Survivors include eight sisters, Rose Bruce, Sharon Seine and Susan Kernycky, all of Canada, Mona George of Covington, Ohio, Marlene Whitt and Theresa Gunnoe, both of Greenwood, Sandra Bowie of Camden and Renee Fawbush of Minneapolis; four brothers, Vance Ford, Bernie Barclay and Norman Barclay, all of Canada and Bruce Sexton of Alda, Iowa.

Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of Rosa Lee Morgan Palmore and the late Jessie James Griffin. She was formerly employed by Emerald City Cafe and was a member of Dunham Temple CME Church, Missionary Society and choir.
Survivors include her husband of the home; three sons, Curtis Griffin Jr., Mott Griffin and Charlie Chambers, all of Greenwood; a daughter, Mrs. Grover (Jamie) Woods of Ware Shoals; two brothers, James Henry Palmore and Robert Palmore, both of Greenwood; four sisters, Shirley Nance and Brenda Payne, both of Greenwood, Lona Mae Hackett and Gladys Palmore, both of Cross Hill; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Herbert Charlie Dorn
SAN JOSE, CA ­— Herbert Charlie Dorn, 86, died July 17, 2006 in San Jose, CA.
Born in Greenwood, SC he was a son of the late Thomas E. and Pearl Griffith Dorn and brother of the late former Congressman W.J. Bryan Dorn of Greenwood. He was a graduate of Greenwood High School and retired after a career in the US Navy as a officer and pilot, serving during WWII.
Surviving is a brother, Watson L. Dorn of Greenwood.
Mr. Dorn is predeceased by his wife, Belle Propps Dorn and son Charlie Elbert Dorn along with three sisters and five brothers.
Services will be held in San Jose, CA.

Born in Saluda County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Pearlie Myers Suber. She was a member of Lockhart Baptist Church, where she was a deaconess and a member of the Everready Club and the NAACP. She was a retired textile worker.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, Rodriques Smith and Willie F. Smith, both of Batesburg; three daughters, LaDonna Smith and Katrina Smith, both Rock Hill and Shanika Smith of Charlotte, N.C.; four brothers, Roosevelt Suber, Thomas Suber and Robert Suber, all of Saluda and Calvin Suber of Aiken; a sister, Daisy M. Young of Riverdale, Md.; three grandchildren.

Lewis E. Warren
IVA, SC — Lewis E. Warren, USN RET., 66, of 200 3rd Ave. Iva, died Monday, July 17, 2006 at An-Med Health in Anderson. He was born in Abbeville County to the late Joel E. and Ada Louise Neece Warren. Mr. Warren retired from the United States Navy and served in the Vietnam War as an Air Craft Mechanic then retired from Timken Ball Bearing Plant. He was a member of the VFW Post in Anderson and was a loving father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Mr. Warren was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Warren, and a brother, Bob Warren.
He is survived by his three daughters, Dena Warren of Iva, Bunny Warren of Denver, CO, and Tamme Brittain-Sanders of Hartwell, GA, three sons, Bobby Warren of California, Paul Warren and Wayne Warren both of Lincolnton, NC, a brother, Joe Warren of Iva, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00PM to 8:00PM Friday, July 21, 2006 at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services with full military honors will be 10:00AM Saturday, July 22, 2006 in the funeral home chapel.

Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Bennie Lee and Ida Mae Hart Jones. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include a son, Markcus Jones, of Greenwood; three sisters, Beatrice J. Dupree, of Bennettsville, Imojene Sparks, of Woodbridge, Va., and Gladys Ferguson, of Duncanville, Texas; a brother, Billy Ray Jones, of Greenwood.

Mrs. Willie Clyde Jones
GREENWOOD — Mrs. Willie Clyde M. Jones, 86, of 141 Lawton Street, widow of Woodrow Wilson Jones, died Monday, August 28, 2006 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Eastman, GA, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Mamie Livingston McCranie. She was retired from Greenwood Mills, having worked in the Mathews and Adams Plants. She was a member of South Main Street Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Bobbie Jean Jones McClain.
Surviving is a son and daughter-in-law, Wilson and Pam Jones of Greenwood; three granddaughters, Melissa McClain of Waterloo, Mrs. Ken (Lynn McClain) Boyter of Greenwood and Mrs. Matt (Hope Jones) Hughes of Kennesaw, GA; two great grandsons, Kenny Boyter and Dylan McClain; two sisters, Alice Stille and Ruby Kelly, both of Greenwood.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard McWhite, the Rev. A. B. Parsons and Dr. Phil McMinn officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Lance Dove and deacons and members of South Main Street Baptist Church.
Honorary escort will be the members of the Ladies Sunday School Class and the Ladies Prayer Group of South Main Street Baptist Church.

Eddie Mae “Peg” Elam Pope, widow of the Rev. James F. Pope, died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2006 at HospiceCare of the Piedmont.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Edgar Heyward “Luck” and Anna Hentz Elam. She was a member of Pine Grove AME Church, Callison, where she was a class leader, steward, member of the Missionary Society and Ladies Club and of the AME District for many years. A homemaker, she was also a PAL volunteer and seamstress.
Survivors include two sisters, Daisy Belle Day and Mary Faulkner, both of Greenwood; two brothers, Edgar Heyward Elam, of Greenwood, and Ben Joe Elam, of Rochester, N.Y.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pine Grove AME Church, with the Rev. Kenneth Aiken presiding and Elder Oscar A. Klugh officiating. Assisting are the Revs. George Oliver and Annette Edwards. The body will be placed in the church at 10. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers and flower bearers are friends of the family.
Viewing begins at 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — “Birdie” Shirley J. Byrd, of 7916 Falcon Street, Jax., FL 32244, born Jan. 3, 1950, left this earthly life on Oct. 7, 2006.
Birdie is survived by her life partner, Janice D. Young, her 4 children, and 10 grandchildren, who reside in Florida.
She is survived by her sisters Bonnie Holliday and Pam Higdon, her brother Jim Sullivan, 4 nephews and 2 nieces of South Carolina.
Services will be held on Oct. 20, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 5752 Blanding Blvd., Jax., FL with Father Anthony G. Sebra presiding. Live plants are welcomed and/or donations may be made in her honor to Haven Hospice, 8301 Cypress Plaza Drive, Ste. 119, Jax., FL 32256.
