Anna Bryan
Anna Carol Bryan, 58, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, in Prescott Valley.
She was born March 6, 1941, in Fayetteville, N.C., to Judd and Roseann (Moore) Cole.
Mrs. Bryan married James Bryan on Feb. 17, 1979, in Fayetteville, N.C. She worked as a registered nurse for 30 years. She was the founder of Tarheel Towing of Prescott Valley and retired from there in 1997. She was an avid supporter and worked closely with the Special Olympics in Prescott Valley.
Survivors include her husband, James; son, Charles Gore of Prescott Valley; daughters, Katrina Gore, Donna Gore and Cathy Gore, all of Charlotte, N.C.; sister, Phyllis Brown of Olsmar, Fla.; and one grandchild.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sunrise Funeral Home in Prescott Valley, with Deacon William Brown officiating.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Bradshaw Mountain Special Olympics, c/o Prescott Valley Police Dept., Attn: Laura Molinaro, 7601 E. Civic Circle, Prescott Valley, AZ 86314.

Sylvia Turner
Sylvia Lea Turner, 75, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 1999, in Peoria.
She was born Dec. 20, 1923, in Fairland, Okla. Her father, the Rev. Oliver Jones, was a First Southern Baptist Church pastor in Buckeye, where she graduated from Buckeye Union High School in 1941. In 1942 she married Gilbert Turner shortly before he left to go into the Air Force. In 1978, they moved to Prescott, where she has lived ever since.
Survivors include her daughters, Beth McKee of Modesto, Calif., Diane King of South Riding, Va., and Vivian Graham Lucas of Prescott, 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert, and a son, Sterling.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the First Southern Baptist Church in Buckeye, followed by interment will follow at Louis B. Hazelton Memorial Park.

Mildred Pfeiffer
Mildred Ruth Pfeiffer, 79, of Dewey, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 1999, at Yavapai Regional Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 26, 1920, in Clarinda, Iowa, to James Eldwin and Erma Lucille (Pruitt) Sawhill.
Mrs. Pfeiffer married Charles L. Pfeiffer June 11, 1939. Her life was devoted to her husband and her family. She worked for Lockheed during World War II, and helped her husband in his various businesses, which included a radio station and a brokerage firm. She and her husband lived in Newport Beach, Calif., for many years, to Bullhead City in 1970, and to Dewey in 1980.
Survivors include her husband, Charles; daughters, Janet King of Portland, Ore., and Charon Yancey of La Habra, Calif.; son, Lee of Glendale; sister, Jeanne Catania of Rancho Cordova, Calif.; eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Faith United Community Church, 1065 Old Chisholm Trail, Dewey.
Private cremation was at Bradshaw Crematory in Prescott Valley.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Prescott Frontier Rotary Literacy Program, P.O. Box 1903, Prescott, AZ 86302.

Marjorie Jorgensen
Marjorie H. Jorgensen, 87, died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, in Prescott.
She was born Feb. 13, 1912, in Friendsville, Tenn., to George and Genevieve (Endsley) Spencer.
Mrs. Jorgensen was a professional writer, whose short stories appeared in Cricket Magazine. In 1990 she wrote and self-published a novel, "Gabriel of the Blessed Tower."
She was one of 13 members of the writing group, the Writers Dozen. She enjoyed getting together with her family, walking in the wind, travel, photography, little theater, and reading, writing, and poetry.
Her survivors include a son, Pete of Prescott; daughters, Sunny Daniel of North Powder, Ore., and Karen DeHart of Springfield, Ore.; and 11 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore, in December 1980.
Private cremation was at Bradshaw Crematory.

Billy Bethel
Billy Bethel, 73, of Prescott, died Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Prescott.
He was born July 24, 1926, in Decatur, Ill., to Herman D. and Lucy (Hearn) Bethel.
Mr. Bethel entered the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served in the Pacific theater during World War II, where he saw battles at Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He traveled extensively during a second tour with the Navy, from China to the Suez Canal.
He married Jessie Quick on April 24, 1958, in Azusa, Calif.
Mr. Bethel joined the American Legion in 1958 in Azusa, and was commander there in 1961. He was the charter commander for the Poway, Calif., post No. 479, and was a past commander of Ernest Love Post No. 6 of Prescott.
While living in San Diego, Mr. Bethel was coach and manager of the Linda Vista Post No. 731 Legion baseball team, and twice took the team to the state tournament.
After moving to Prescott in 1983, he worked for Yavapai County as a custodian and machinist. He enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles, and recently built a 3-D puzzle of the Titanic.
Mr. Bethel is survived by his wife, Jessie.
Cremation was private at Bradshaw Crematory in Prescott Valley. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the VAMC Chapel in Prescott, with military honors by the Prescott American Legion.
Inurnment will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix.

Jack Mitchell
Jack Cyrus Mitchell, 70, died on Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, at his home in Chino Valley.
He was born July 28, 1929, in Rockford, Ill., to Francis and Grace (Bradley) Mitchell.
Mr. Mitchell attended school in Chicago and graduated from West High School in 1948.
He served in the the U.S. Air Force from 1948 to 1952 in Okinawa, Japan, and during the Korean conflict, rising to the rank of staff sergeant.
Mr. Mitchell married E. Nancy Lewis on Aug. 7, 1953, in Glendale, Calif.
He worked for IBM in Southern California for 16 years, then for Memorex in Santa Clara for 18 years, retiring on Jan. 3, 1989. During his career, Mr. Mitchell witnessed computers growing from ones the size of a room to those that fit on a person's lap.
After retirement, Mr. Mitchell and his wife moved to Chino Valley to supervise the building of their home.
Survivors include his wife, E. Nancy Mitchell of Chino Valley; daughter, Georgia Williams of San Jose, Calif.; son, Richard of San Jose; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were Saturday at the Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home in Prescott with Rev. Dr. James Gere officiating.
The family suggests contributions to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 201, Prescott, AZ 86302.

Austin Coombes
Austin Auton Coombes, 74, of Prescott Valley, died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at Yavapai Regional Medical Center in Prescott.
He was born May 14, 1925, in Oaks, Okla., to Walter Thomas and Ada Irene (Stanlecker) Coombes.
Mr. Coombes loved to play country music on the guitar.
Mr. Coombes was a trucker who enjoyed traveling around the country visiting friends. He was immensely proud of his natural and adopted family, and loved his dogs. His large family and many friends will miss him.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly of Prescott Valley; sons, Larry Coombes of Pittsburg, Calif., Michael Hensley of Junction City, Ark.; daughters, Carolyn Dorman of Joplin, Mo., Terry Ridgeway of Sonora, Calif., Janet Trapp of Bay Point, Calif., and Janet Hansen of Louisiana; stepsons, Rocky Golleher of Silverdale, Wash., Tom Golleher of Prescott Valley, and Michael Golleher of Roscoe, Ill.; and stepdaughter, Debbie Smith of Ellsworth, Kan.
Other survivors include his brother, Bill Combs of Midway, Ark.; sister Lorene Cunningham of Rio Vista, Calif.; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services were held on Saturday at the Arizona Wakelin Bradshaw Chapel in Prescott Valley with a private cremation that followed at Bradshaw Crematory. Inurnment will be in California.

Mary Pennington
Mary Margaret Pennington, 85, died Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, at the Arizona Pioneers' Home in Prescott.
She was born Jan. 16, 1914, in Buckeye to Charles and Nancy (Wainscott) Parker.
Mrs. Pennington was a true Arizona pioneer and life-long resident of Arizona. She worshipped at, and donated her time to, the Salvation Army.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Cranston of Glendale; son, John Pennington of Lone Pine, Calif.; and a sister, Thema Heitler of Peoria.
A private cremation service will be held at a later date.
Memory Chapel helped the family with arrangements.
