George Pierce
George Robert Pierce, 76, died Wednesday, May 6, 1998, in Lucerne Valley, Calif.
He was born Aug. 7, 1921, in Cheboygan, Mich., to George and Lavinia (Trombly) Pierce.
Mr. Pierce was a supervisor for Boeing for 30 years. He moved to Prescott Valley from Santa Ana, Calif., in 1986, and had just recently moved to Lucerne Valley, Calif., from Prescott Valley. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge, the Eagles, Elks Lodge, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his daughters, Patty Frothingham of Corona, Calif., Lurena Towne of Rancho Mirage, Calif., Elaine Gow of Flagstaff and Diane Mann of Vista, Calif.; son, Robert of Lucerne Valley, Calif.; brothers, Laverne of Michigan, Darvin of Seattle, Wash., and Alvin of Arizona; sisters, Lea Douglas-Young of Lake Elsinore, Calif., and Darlene Chessman of Missouri; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sunrise Funeral Home, 8167 E. Highway 69 in Prescott Valley, with the Rev. James Cunningham officiating.
Interment will be at Redwood Memorial Gardens in Dewey.
Sunrise Funeral Home helped the family with arrangements.

Esther Hoover
Esther L. Hoover, 92, died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, in Prescott Valley.
She was born Feb. 11, 1906, in Sidney, Ohio, to Walter and Grace (Wise) Courter.
She married John Hoover in 1924 in Covington, Ky. They moved to Phoenix from Ohio in 1959, and to Prescott Valley in 1988.
Survivors include her daughters, Esther Carey of Sidney, Ohio and Vera Pike of Palm Coast, Fla.; sons, Lloyd and Don, both of Prescott Valley; sister, Coillah Mayberry of Sidney, Ohio; 13 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1966, and sons, Ivan in 1992, and Virgil in 1983.
A visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Sunrise Funeral Home, 8167 E. Highway 69 in Prescott Valley.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sunrise Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Davis officiating. Interment will be at Redwood Memorial Gardens in Dewey.

Howard Farr Sr.
Howard S. Farr Sr., 81, died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at a local nursing home.
He was born Aug. 15, 1916, in Boston, Mass., to Charles and Nina (York) Farr.
Mr. Farr was a great husband and father, and was a friend to all. He enjoyed working and meeting new friends.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie; daughters, Becky Farr, Jeannie Murphy and Nellie Lambert; sons, David and Howard Jr.; and many grand and great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mountain View Cemetery, 1051 Willow Creek Road.
Memory Chapel Mortuary helped the family with arrangements.

Donall Bourk
A celebration of life memorial service for Donall Garraid Bourke will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 30, at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 630 Park Ave.
Hampton Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

T. B. Hanson
T. B. Hanson, 84, died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at Meadow Park Care Center.
He was born Sept. 5, 1913, in Republican City, Neb., to O. D. and Marguerite (Waring) Hanson.
Mr. Hanson worked on the railroad during the time when steam was used and during the transition to diesel power. During World War II, he worked on the long troop trains, with soldiers braking the air brake lines. He was a part of the deluxe passenger trains and the transition to the modern freight trains in the post-war era. He retired as a railroad conductor for Santa Fe Railroad after 39 years.
He owned and operated Ted's Outboard Service for 15 years. He was an accomplished musician, and played the trombone.
Mr. Hanson moved to Winslow from Los Angeles, Calif., in 1938, and to Prescott in 1997. He was a member of Potters House Church in Winslow.
Survivors include his son, Ted of Ash Fork; daughter, Gerrie Prince of Alhambra, Calif.; brother, Phil of Indio, Calif.; sister, Martha Horn of Ventura, Calif.; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alta, in August 1996.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Desert View Cemetery in Winslow.
The Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home helped the family with arrangements.

Lillian Messenger
Lillian M. Messenger, 86, died Monday, May 4, 1998, in Prescott Valley.
She was born July 30, 1911, in Bloomington, Ill., to John and Fay (Nicholes) Martin.
Mrs. Messenger was a lead woman for the Bendix Corporation in North Hollywood, Calif., for 18 years, retiring in 1967. She moved to Prescott Valley from Bakersfield, Calif., in 1991. She was a member of the Prescott Valley Christian Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Josephine Evans of Prescott Valley, and Gloria Ovendale of Arcadia, Calif.; sister, Ilene Toten of Chino Valley; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Prescott Valley Christian Church, 7655 Long Look, with the Rev. Gene Wands officiating.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society, 2724 E. Lakin Drive, #9, Flagstaff, AZ 86004, or the Prescott Valley Christian Church.

Miriam Smith
Miriam R. Smith, 100, died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at Prescott Samaritan Village.
She was born July 10, 1897, in Brownsville, Pa., to John Bertram and Ellen Jane (Morgan) Smith.
Mrs. Smith moved to Phoenix in 1980, shortly after the death of her husband, Earl, who died in August of that year. She moved to Prescott in 1989 to live with her daughter. She was a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church.
She was a wonderful artist and excelled in China painting, which she would do for her family and friends. She was a caring wife and mother, who tended to her family with the same meticulous care she applied to her works of art. She will be greatly missed by her family.
Survivors include her daughter, Bette Smith of Prescott; son, Earl of Goodyear; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A private cremation was held at Mountain View Crematory. Private inurnment will be held at Locustwood Memorial Park in Cherry Hill, N.J.

Germaine Zoerner
Germaine B. Zoerner, 84, died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at her home in Carson City, Nev.
She was born Jan. 12, 1914, in New York City, N.Y., to Constantine Bernardt and Clemetine Lacompanon Bernardt.
She graduated high school from St. Assyium Academy in New York City. She married Albrecht Zoerner on April 27, 1941. He preceded her in death on Sept. 25, 1995.
Mrs. Zoerner was a Prescott resident for 19 years. Prior to that, she lived in West Paterson, N.J. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Carson City, Nev.
She is survived by her son, Fred of Reno, Nev.
No services were held.
Capitol City Cremation and Burial Society in Carson City, Nev., helped with the arrangements.
