GenealogyBuff.com - Decatur County, IA - August 9, 1902, Catherine A. Billingsley Standish

U.S., Social Security Death Index, 1935-2014

Catharine A. Billingsley was born in Zanesville, Ohio, April 19, 1820, and died at her home near Weldon, Saturday August 9, 1902. She was married February 29, 1842 in Delaware County, Ohio, to William A. Standish who survives her. Together they have traveled life's journey for over sixty years, each sharing the joys and sorrows of the other in loving companionship. To this union were born ten children, four of whom have preceded their mother to the Great Beyond, two in infancy, one daughter at the age of nine, and the oldest son who died last February.

Besides raising her own family, she was mother to two of her grandchildren, who were left motherless in their early childhood, caring for them in her old age with the same patient loving care she gave to her own children. At the age of eighteen, she cast her lot with God's people, uniting with the Church of Christ in the state of Kentucky. Her faith was characterized by living each day the life of a true consistent Christian, rather than by outward show, always speaking charitably of the faults of others. She was a lover of home, and owing to poor health for a number of years she rarely left her home. For nearly a year she had been an almost constant sufferer, but not confined to her bed all the time. Being of a very energetic nature she did not give up until she was compelled to. She was ever patient and uncomplaining. Her last illness lasted a little more than one week. She had long been resigned to the will of the Lord and was ready to go when her Master called.

The funeral service was conducted at the house by Elder Organ, his text being from the fourteenth chapter of John, which was one of her favorite passages of scripture. She was laid to rest in the Green Bay Cemetery. May the Lord comfort the bereaved husband in the few remaining days until they shall be reunited.
