Martha V. Goodson
Martha V. Goodson, age 63, of Niceville, Fla., died peacefully Monday morning, March 1, 1999, at her home.
She was born in Scottsboro, Ala., and attended public school in Selma, Ala., where she graduated from Selma High School. She continued her education in music at Montavello University in Montavello, Ala., completing her bachelor's degree at Birmingham Southern University. She then joined her husband in a 20-year Air Force career.
Upon her husband's retirement from the Air Force in 1978, her family moved to Niceville where Martha pursued a career as a music and piano teacher. She was a member of the Music Teacher's Association of Florida, and an officer and member of the Emerald Coast Investment Club.
Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Wayne Goodson; her mother, Mary Virginia McCutchen; daughter, Virginia Ann Goodson; granddaughters, Lori Christine Cromer and Melanie Jean Cromer, all of Niceville; son, John W. Goodson Jr. and wife Jennifer of Sudbury, Mass.; and brother, David McCutchen and wife Betty of Birmingham, Ala.
The family will receive friends at McLaughlin Twin Cities Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 3.
Funeral services will be held at St. Jude's Episcopal Church, 200 N. Partin Drive, Niceville, on Thursday, March 4, at 9:30 a.m. with the Rev. Arnold Bush officiating. Interment will follow at 12:30 p.m. in Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola, Fla. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 4 Jackson St. N.E., Fort Walton Beach, FL 32547.

Mary Dunn
Mary Dunn, age 91, passed away Monday, March 1, 1999, in a local nursing home.
Mrs. Dunn was born on March 2, 1907, in Nanticoke, Pa., to the late William and Michaeline Smugi. She had been a resident of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., since 1982, moving here from Sheatown, Pa. She was a member of Holy Child Church, American Legion in Pennsylvania, and Disabled American Veterans 72 in Fort Walton Beach.
Mrs. Dunn was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Dunn; sons, Harry and John Dunn; and brothers, Leonard and Paul Smugi. She is survived by her daughter, Marie Evanchyk of Shalimar, Fla.; grandchildren, Richard Evanchyk of Rochester Hills, Mich., Michael Evanchyk of Tucson, Ariz., Randy Evanchyk of Tampa, Fla., Rory Evanchyk of Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, Robbin Evanchyk of Atlanta, and Ronald Evanchyk of Davenport, Iowa; and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, in Beal Memorial Cemetery with Father Grothan officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans 72 of Fort Walton Beach in memory of Mrs. Mary Dunn.
Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Road N.E., Fort Walton Beach, is in charge of arrangements.

Lois Evelyn Anderson
Lois Evelyn Adams Anderson, age 79, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Monday afternoon, March 1, 1999, in a local nursing home.
Mrs. Anderson was born on Aug. 6, 1919, in Birmingham, Ala., to the late Charles Kirklin and Ella Mae Adams. She moved to Okaloosa County, Fla., in August 1957 from Athens, Tenn., and was Presbyterian by faith. Mrs. Anderson was employed by Vitro Services for many years, retiring in the early 1980s. She lived at Westwood Retirement Center for five years and enjoyed their daily activities. She also enjoyed being involved with her family and their activities.
Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lennis Anderson. She is survived by her daughters, Shirley L. Anderson of Orlando, Fla., and Peggy L. Qualls and husband Al of Fort Walton Beach; grandchildren, Donny Qualls, Polly Qualls and Robert Qualls, all of Fort Walton Beach; sister, Gay Stokes and husband James of Clanton, Ala.; nephew, Kirk Stokes of Clanton; niece, Nikki Blair and husband Stanley of Birmingham; and other extended family.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Beal Memorial Cemetery with Dr. Howard L. Gates officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 4 N.E. Jackson St., Fort Walton Beach, FL 32548, in memory of Mrs. Lois Evelyn Adams Anderson.

Jimmy Weeks
Jimmy Weeks, age 68, of Texarkana, Texas, died Monday, March 1, 1999, at his residence.
Mr. Weeks was born on March 28, 1930, in Perry, Fla., and was raised in Walton County, Fla., and had lived in Texarkana for the past 12 years. He was retired from the U.S. Army with 26 years of service, and served during the Korean and Vietnam conflict. He also retired from Raytheon Co.
He was an avid fisherman and camper and Baptist by faith. Mr. Weeks was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, James A. and Katie Frazier Weeks Powell.
Mr. Weeks is survived by his wife of 46 years, Kathryn Weeks of Texarkana; son, James Weeks and wife Jackie of Texarkana; daughter, Patricia Ann and husband Danny Thomas of Niceville, Fla.; brother, Charles Jerome Weeks of Clinton, Miss.; grandchildren, Stephanie Thomas, Daniel Thomas and Linda Weeks; numerous nieces and nephews; and brothers and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, March 5, in Cluster Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Tucker Aplin officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Cluster Springs Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Samuel E. Barlow Sr.
Sam E. Barlow Sr., age 66, of Crestview, Fla., died Monday, March 1, 1999, at West Florida Regional Medical Center in Pensacola, Fla.
Sam was born in Laurel Hill, Fla., on Oct. 3, 1932, to Chipley David and Lena Mae Adams Barlow and had been a lifetime resident of the Northwest Florida area. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and also held five different construction licenses. Sam was an avid fisherman and a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by a son, Chipley William Barlow. Survivors include his loving wife of 45 years of marriage, Evelyn P. Barlow of Crestview; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Pam Kelley of Crestview, Sammy Jr. and Debbie Barlow of Dallas, Texas, and Rick Barlow of Crestview; daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Walt Horst of Crestview; brother and sister-in-law, Charlie D. and Irene Barlow of Bonifay, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A time of visitation will be conducted at Whitehurst Funeral Home on Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of Whitehurst Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Friday, March 5, with the Rev. Dr. Billy Joy officiating. Interment will follow in Almarante Cemetery in Laurel Hill.
Floral tributes will be accepted at the funeral home.
Arrangements and services under the direction of Whitehurst Funeral Home, 436 W. James lee Blvd., Crestview.

Billy Gene Sparkman
Staff Sgt. Billy Gene Sparkman, U.S. Air Force retired, age 61, of Niceville, Fla., passed away Tuesday, March 2, 1999, in a Pensacola, Fla., hospital.
Mr. Sparkman was born on Nov. 11, 1937, in Marion County, Ala., to the late Robert and Gladys Sparkman. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in September 1967 from Scott Air Force Base, Ill., and then attended Austin Peay State University and graduated in 1972. Mr. Sparkman taught industrial arts and special education at C.W. Ruckel Middle School and retired in 1978.
Bill was a loving and generous husband and father. He had the patience of Job throughout his many years of suffering. He put his trust in the Lord and let his light shine by his steadfastness and faithfulness. All who met him were inspired by his good nature and determination. He worshiped with the family at Pine Lake Church of Christ in Niceville. He was an avid gardener and shared the fruits of his labor with many friends.
Mr. Sparkman was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Doris Copeland; and brothers-in-law, Hassell Johnson and Sam Roseberry.
He is survived by his wife, Verna E. Sparkman of Niceville; sons, Kevin J. Sparkman of Mount Juliet, Tenn., and Ronald G. Sparkman of Golden, Miss.; daughter, Kelly R. Sparkman of Niceville; sisters, Dewdrop Johnson, and Ruth Roberts and husband Horice, all of Golden, and Ruby Rogers and husband Frank of Wiggins, Miss.; brother, Bobby Sparkman and wife Ann of Phoenix, Ariz.; mother-in-law, Mabel E. Spurgeon of Rochester, Ill.; brother-in-law, Lee Spurgeon and wife Janet of Rochester; sister-in-law, Alice Roseberry of Springfield, Ill.; and many extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, March 5, at Niceville Church of Christ. The family will greet friends one hour prior to services.
Asked to serve as pallbearers are Travis Stanley, Travis Griffith, Mark Smith, Mike Nobles and Gary Coburn. Asked to serve as honorary pallbearers are Brent Smith, Lee Roberson, Tate Jennings, Odis Chapman, Don Harrison, Steve Stephens, Kirk Kirkland, Bob Lauderdale, Ray Wilcox, Ken Stanley, Joe Blystone, Lee Spurgeon, Al Jordan, Bob Ezell, Phil West, Otis Evans and Kevin Bell.
The family will also greet friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Interment will take place Sunday, March 7, in Rochester.
Those who wish may make donations to the Arthritis Foundation, 1813-C West Fairfield Drive, Pensacola, FL 32501-1040; or to Pine Lake Church of Christ Mission Church Fund, 801 John Sims Pkwy., Niceville, FL 32578, in memory of Mr. Billy Gene Sparkman.

Alice L. Hansen
Alice L. Konvalin Hansen, age 81, passed away March 2, 1999, in a local hospital.
She was born on July 15, 1917, in Boone County, Neb., daughter of Josef and Eva Konvalin. Her family moved to Winner, S.D., where she met and married Emil W. "Mike" Hansen and began a life of farming. After 22 years of farming in South Dakota, she and Mike moved to Tucson, Ariz., where she entered the business of interior decorating. After many successful years in the decorating business, she and her husband retired to the Crestview area to be near their daughter, Johna L. Hansen Jeffords.
Alice was a loving mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emil W. "Mike" Hansen. She is survived by her daughter, Johna L. Jeffords and husband Billy Joe; granddaughters, Terra D. Coulter and Robin M. Tarpley; grandsons, Christopher B. Pyper, Jeremy J. Pyper and Tyler M. Tarpley; sisters, Dodie Buckmier, Julie Christian of Tucson, and Marie Pelky of Beaverton, Ore.; and many nieces and nephews.
A time of visitation will be conducted from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with a rosary beginning at 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Friday with Father Michael Reed officiating. Interment will follow in Live Oak Park Memorial Cemetery in Crestview, Fla.

Robert L. Dowling
Robert L. Dowling, age 88, of Crestview, Fla., passed away at his home Tuesday evening, March 2, 1999.
He was a native of Macclenny, Fla., but had been residing in Crestview with his son since 1995. Mr. Dowling was Baptist by faith; a retired crane operator; served in the U.S. Navy; and was a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. "Bob" and Clara Dowling of Crestview; sister, Janie Money of Lakeland, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Mr. Dowling will be held Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, March 5, at Whitehurst Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Paul officiating.
Burial will be held Monday, March 8, at 10 a.m. in Sunset Memory Gardens in Thonotosassa, Fla.
Arrangements under the direction of Whitehurst Funeral Home, Crestview.

George Douglas Allen
George Douglas Allen, age 51, passed away March 1, 1999, in a Longview, Texas, hospital.
He was a resident of Gladewater, Texas, and self-employed as a trucking broker. Doug was a graduate of Laurel Hill High School and the University of West Florida. He served in the U.S. Marines for two years and was a member of Laurel Hill Masonic Lodge 44 F&AM.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Allen of Laurel Hill, Fla.; wife, Leslie Morrison Allen of Gladewater, Texas; stepson, Jason Flippo of Las Vegas; stepdaughters, Tricia Ganson of Battleground, Wash., and Elizabeth Roach of Salenas, Calif.; stepgrandsons, Steven and Dalton; stepgranddaughters, Kayla, Abigail and Ashley Anne; aunts, Shirley Dowling of Laurel Hill, Lois Price of Jacksonville, Fla., and Amy Geohagan of Florala, Ala.; cousins, Michael Dowling, Anthony Dowling, Elaine Clary, all of Laurel Hill, Jill and Mike Allen of Florala, Robert Becky and Bobbette Price of Jacksonville; and a host of dear friends from far and near.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 6, at Whitehurst Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Ray Wilson officiating. Masonic rites will be given in the funeral home chapel.
Burial will follow in Almarante Cemetery in Laurel Hill.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 5.
Doug's classmates from Laurel Hill High School will serve as active and honorary pallbearers. All Maser Masons should meet at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Saturday to give last rites.

Lottie Ruth Lloyd
Lottie Ruth Kelley Lloyd, age 88, of Shalimar, Fla., graduated from this world on March 3, 1999.
Mrs. Lloyd was born on Dec. 10, 1910, in Bradenton, Ala., to the late Walter B. and Alma Moses Kelley. She was a resident of Shalimar since 1976 after a full life as a nurse and loving wife.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry J. Lloyd; daughter, Paula Thompson of Fort Walton Beach; and granddaughter, Cheree Thompson of Arlington, Texas; brothers, E.J. Kelley and Charles Kelley of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; sisters, Caudie Merritt of Lake Charles, La., Euna Faulkner of Andalusia, Ala., and Frances Hall of Shalimar; sisters-in-law, Thelma Kelley and Sarah Kelley; and brother-in-law, Raymond L. Hall.
Lottie was a sweet, gentle spirit of uncommon beauty and grace. She always shone with the radiance of the light and love bestowed upon her by the Lord she loved with all of her heart for all of her long and wonderful life.
She lived a life that will not be remembered by the grand accomplishments that this old world so admires. Rather, she will be remembered by all those whose lives she touched for the sweet smile, the selfless giving and loving care, the gentle teaching and abiding faith treasured ever so much more in Heaven above.
A time of visitation and sharing fond memories of Lottie will be held at McLaughlin Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
Funeral services will be conducted at the chapel of McLaughlin Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Friday, March 5, with the Rev. Dr. William H. Tyson of Westminster Presbyterian Church leading the service. Her body will be laid to rest in Roselawn Cemetery in Gulf Breeze, Fla.
Pallbearers will be Chuck and Mike Kelley, David and Steve Hall, Howard Kelley and Jimmy Faulkner. Honorary pallbearers will be John M. Hart, E.A. McCormac, Earl T. Smith, William P. Trimm, James C. Richardson and Jerry Sweeney.
Memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund; and flowers will be accepted.
McLaughlin Mortuary, 17 Chestnut Ave., Fort Walton Beach, is entrusted with arrangements.
