Br. Francis Liermann,O.F.M.Cap.
Br. Francis Liermann, O.F.M., Cap., age 79, died October 6, 2000, at Lawrence Friary, Beacon, New York, following a short illness. Br. Francis entered the Capuchin Franciscan Novitiate in Huntington, Indiana on March 18, 1938 and professed first vows one year later. He professed perpetual vows on March 19, 1946. Br. Liermann was born March 30, 1921, in Carnegie, PA., the son of the late August and Bertha (Langer) Liermann. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Charles, Matthew, Frederick and Joseph; and two sisters, Gertrude Lilly and Zita Murphy. Survivors include two brothers, James of New Mexico and August of North Canton; and two sisters, Mary Cuenot and Rita Liermann both of Canton. He served for many years as Provincial Tailor, Sacristan and Porter at several Friaries in New York and New England, including St. Lawrence Friary, Milton, MA., from 1952-1961, St. Anthony Friary, Hudson, N.H. from 1961-1969, St. Pius X Friary, Middletown, CT from 1970-1978, St. John Friary, N.Y. City from 1978-1981, Sacred Heart Friary, Yonkers, N.Y. from 1981-1984, and finally, St. Francis Friary, Garrison, N.Y. from 1984-1999, when he went to the friars' infirmary at Beacon. A wake was held at St. Lawrence Friary in Beacon, NY and St. Clare Friary in Yonkers NY on Sunday and Monday, October 8th and 9th respectively. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, October 10th., at Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Fr. Bernard Smith as celebrant. Burial took place in the friars' cemetery at Sacred Heart. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in honor of Br. Francis on Saturday, October 21st., 2000, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul's Catholic Church, Canton, Ohio with Rev. Fr. Nicholas Mancini as celebrant.

Carl V. Oldfield
Carl V. Oldfield, age 58, of Canton, OH, passed away Friday evening in the Arbors of Canton following a brief illness. Born in St. Mary's, WV, on December 31, 1941, he had lived the greater portion of his life in the Canton area. He was employed at the Luntz Corp., where he had worked for the past 36 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald Oldfield and a sister, Wanda Alflen. Survivors include his wife, Dora Oldfield of the home; two sons and daughter-in-law, Ronald Oldfield of Massillon and Anthony and Sherry Oldfield of Mineral City, OH; his mother, Nellie Downing of Marietta, OH; two sisters, Martha DeGreef of Louisville, OH and Gay Miller of Baltic, OH; three brothers, Charles Oldfield of Canton, Mark Oldfield of Minerva, OH and Eugene Downing of Canton; three grandchildren, Tracy Tessanne, Jeff Buchanan and Michelle Buchanan; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Webb Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the Newport Cemetery in Newport, OH. Gayle Stoltz, age 86, passed away Saturday, October 14, 2000. She was born September 23, 1914, in Moundsville, WV. She worked as Personnel Supervisor for Woolworth's Co. Was a member of the Barberton Church of God. Preceded in death by husband, Floyd. Survived by son, Ronald (Jean) Stoltz of Uniontown; grandchildren, Ronald Stoltz, Lisa Bernard and Russell Stoltz; seven great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Isaac L. Goad
Isaac (Lester) L. Goad, age 74, of Navarre, passed away Saturday, October 14, 2000, in Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. He was born May 1, 1926 in Hillsville, VA, to his parents the late, George and Lettie (Ayers) Goad. He was a retired employee of LTV Steel, Burger division, retiring after 38 years of service. He also served our country in the Army. Beside his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, Connor Goad. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Orphelia (Vaughn) Goad of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rita and William Anderegg and Brenda and John Matthews, all of Canton; one sister, Edna Montgomery of Hillsville, Virginia; and four grandsons. Karl M. Robertson
Karl M. Robertson, age 80, of Canton, died Saturday morning at his home. He was born in Canton, the son of the late Thomas and Daisy Robertson. He was retired from the city of Canton Water Pollution Dept., and had been the owner and operator of Robertson's Coal and Plumbing and Robertson's Peach Orchard. He was a member of North Industry United Methodist Church; a 1938 graduate of McKinley High School. He was an Army Air Force Veteran of World War II where he served in the 83rd Air Drom Squadron and received four Bronze Stars. Preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Robertson in 1995; a sister, Sheila Garee; and a brother, Ian Robertson. Survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and David Carver of Lucasville, Melissa and David Burnside of Canton; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Dena Robertson of Muncie, IN; seven grandchildren, Karl Michael and Jennifer Robertson, Josh, Tana, Kristin and Ryan Burnside and Ian Carver. Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the North Industry United Methodist Church with Rev. David Ross officiating. Burial in Sandy Valley Cemetery. Mary Anna (Wallace) Spearing, age 83, of the Rose Lane Health Center, Jackson Twp., formerly of Cincinnati died, Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000 at Doctors Hospital. She was born June 7, 1917, in New Castle, PA, to the late James Clifford and Annabelle (McClelland) Wallace and was a graduate of Kent State University. Mildred M. Budnie
Mildred Margaret (Choma) Budnie, of Canton, passed away Friday morning, October 13, 2000, at home with her loving family at her side following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Cambridge, OH., on November 21, 1925 to the late Steve and Anna Choma. She is survived by Alex Budnie, her loving husband of 20 years; and her devoted children, Carson E. (Karen) Smith of Richville, OH., Ms. Sharyn Merryman of Canton, Dennis W. Smith of Richville and Robert D. Smith of Rockhill, SC; two step-children, Sharon Budnie of Canton and Michael (Kathy) Budnie of Winchester, VA. She also leaves her grandchildren, Dean (Karen) Smith of Centerburg, OH., Amy Smith and her partner, Diane, of Canton, Sean (Jodi) Broom of North Canton, Angela Merryman and her partner, Micky, of Mechanicsburg, PA, Robert Dale Smith and Miranda Lee Smith, both of North Canton; great-grandchildren, Drew, Mariah and Abigail Smith; Maximilian, Cameron and Tristan Broom; brother and sisters, John (Jeanne) Choma of Canton, Ann (Merrill) Sayre of Akron and Agnes (Howard) Pierce of Navarre, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews. William H. Lee
William H. Lee, age 80, of Canton, passed away Thursday in his residence. He was born in Massillon, a son of the late William and Cora Gotschall Lee, and had been a Canton resident since 1972. He retired in 1971 from the United States Air Force, after 30 years service, having served in World War II, the Korean Conflict, and the Viet Nam War. He had flown over 11,000 hours including over 250 combat missions, and had been awarded three Distinguished Flying Crosses, nine Air Medals, and the Air Force Commendation Medal. Following his retirement he worked 10 years for the U.S. Postal Service in the maintenance dept. For the past four years he had been a volunteer at Aultman Hospital. Mr. Lee was of Episcopalian Faith. Preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Eileen H. Lee, on July 29, 1995. Survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda Brown, Cathy and Scott Whipkey, and Peggy and Ron Neidig, all of Canton; eight grandchildren, Shelley and Brian Brown, Scott Brown and his wife, Jennifer, John and Mark Bryant, Jennifer Brown, Chris and Josh Moore; three great-granddaughters; two brothers, Earl Thacker, of Canton, and Thomas Lee, of Phoenix, AZ. Services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Formet-Clevenger and Gordon Funeral Home with Captain James Parrish, Chaplain of the U.S. Air Force, officiating. Friends may call Monday 6-8 p.m. Interment in Sunset Hills Burial Park where Military Services will be held by the U.S. Air Force from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton.

D. Patrick Murphy
D. Patrick Murphy, age 55, of Perry Twp., passed away following a long illness. Pat was born Sept. 24, 1945 in Massillon to Clarence L. and Naomi (Saylor) Murphy. He graduated from Washington High School in 1963. Following high school he entered the US Navy and then was employed by Republic Steel. Recently he was employed in the maintenance department of McDonald's Restaurants and was on disability. He is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. His father Clarence Murphy passed away in 1970 and brother, Casey Murphy in 1984. He is survived by wife, Cindy (Fair) Murphy of the residence with whom he shared 34 years of marriage on Feb. 19; daughters and son-in-law, Polly and Dave Murphy of Canton, Sally Murphy of the residence; son and daughter-in-law, P. Darby and Traci Murphy of Massillon; mother, Naomi Murphy of Massillon; sisters, Molly Rodocker of Massillon, Peggy Pigman (John) of North Canton, Terry Murphy of Massillon, Mickey Nau (Bob) of Canton, Colleen Handwork (Larry) of Jackson Twp.; and three grandchildren. Parsons, who passed away October 30, 1992. Ivan Cabassa
Mr. Ivan Cabassa, age 84, died October 13, 2000, at McKinley Life Center, following an extended illness. He was born Feb. 7, 1916, to the late Antonio and Olivo (Ascensio) Cabassa in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico and had lived in the Canton area most of his life. He had worked for Ford Motor where he was a tool and die maker for 19 years and was owner of Zimber Inn in North Canton for 15 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Victoria Cabassa of Canton, a son Russell Cabassa of Alliance; two daughters, Heather Cabassa and Shannon Hendrickson, both of the Boston area; two step daughters, Paula Seifert of Massillon and Patricia Bower of Gore, VA; and numerous grandchildren. Lillian Frisch
Lillian (Libby) Frisch, age 87, of Canton, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2000, in Aultman Hospital after a long illness. She was born December 7, 1912, in Canton, to the late Ben and Bena (Kober) Fogel. She was a member of Shaaray Torah Synagogue. Lillian is survived by loving husband, Irwin Frisch, who she was married to for 69 years this coming October 25th. Also survived by sister, Ann Mostov of Canton. Lillian and Irwin had three children, William Jack (JoAnn) of Torrance, CA, Eleanor Joan Michon of Glendale, CA and Gerald Lee (Judith) of Canton. She also had seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters. Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Arnold Funeral Home with Cantor Bruce Braun and Rabbi John Spitzer officiating. Interment in Canton Hebrew Cemetery. Shiva will be observed at the Frisch residence at 905 Buena Vista St. N.E., on Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday and Thursday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 p.m.

Martha M. Shearer
Martha M. Shearer, age 81, a resident of St. Luke Lutheran Home passed away Saturday morning in Doctors Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Canton on October 26, 1918, she was the daughter of the late, Irl and Nellie Shearer. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Robert W. Shearer. Survivors include her niece, Donna Kuntz and her husband, Paul Kuntz of Green, OH; a great-niece, Debbie Booth and great-nephew, Dennis Kuntz, both of Green, OH. Private graveside services will be conducted Tuesday in West Lawn Cemetery with Rev. David Van officiating. There will be no calling hours and the Reed Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Pauline A. Miller
Pauline A. Miller, age 89, of Alliance, passed away Sunday Oct. 15, 2000, at Altercare of Alliance. She was born in Flushing, OH, April 7, 1911, to the late Marion and Anna R. (Wilkins) Price. She was a member of Louisville Chapter #400 Order of Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde in 1965, three sisters and eight brothers. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Carolyn Miller, Richard and Terri Miller, all of Alliance; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Edwin Pore of Alliance; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Stier-Israel Funeral Home, Louisville, with Rev. Gordon Thomas of the First Baptist Church of Alliance officiating. Rita G. (Yost) Martin, age 76, of Canton, died Saturday morning, October 14, 2000, in Aultman Hospital. Born May 23, 1924, in Somerset, OH, to the late Karl and Laverna (Imes) Yost. Rita was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. She attended Oberlin College, The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, PA, Kent State University, graduated from Malone College in 1969 and received her Masters Degree in Reading from the University of Akron. She was a retired elementary school teacher for the Canton school system and later served as an educator overseas in Africa and Thailand. Survived by four daughters and two sons-in-law, Rachel Barnes of Huntington Beach, CA, Rebecca and Floyd Thomas of Newark, OH, Deborah and Peter MacGregor of Atlanta, GA and Sarah Martin Mayle of Richmond, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Karl Whitmer and Nan Martin of Galion, OH; sister and brother-in-law, Theda and Phillip Clemans of Marysville, OH; brother and sister-in-law, Zane and Megan Yost of Bridgeport, CT; and nine grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Mark's Episcopal Church with Rev. Dr. Carey E. Sloan III officiating. Sara H. Minnie Reinerth, age 76, of Canton, OH, passed away suddenly Saturday at her home. Born in Salem, OH, on December 11, 1923, she lived the greater portion of her life in Canton. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Susan Miller. Survivors include a niece, Bea Miller of Canton; three brothers, John Reinerth of Salem, OH, Richard Zelch of Oregon and Fred Ketler of Philadelphia, PA; a sister, Helen Lewis of Salem, OH; numerous nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by the Kousaie family with whom she had made her home for most of her life. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Newcomer officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home on Tuesday 7-9 p.m.

Suzanne A. Starosta, age 38, of North Canton, died unexpectedly Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000. She is survived by children, Alex and Angela; parents, Charlotte and Thomas Hoosic of Jackson Twp.; brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Marcia Hoosic of Massillon; sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Brad Carlson of Wilkes-Barre, PA; nephew, Erik Carlson; and niece, Mia Carlson. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with no calling hours.
