Helen Pauline McDermott
Helen Pauline McDermott, age 84, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000.
She was born on March 12, 1916, in Victor, Colo., grew up in Denver, and lived for many years in Scottsdale, Ariz. Helen and her late husband, Joseph P. McDermott, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary just prior to his death in 1991.
Helen worked for many years in retail sales and vocational education. She was a talented musician and artist. She was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where she enjoyed immensely singing in the choir. Helen McDermott's legacy is one of deep faith and unfailing generosity. She lifted the spirits of everyone she touched.
Helen is survived by her son, John McDermott and wife Linda of Villanova, Pa.; and daughter, Paulette Risher and husband Edward of Fort Walton Beach. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Alison McDermott and Alicia Risher.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 23, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Kevin Johnson officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, at Emerald Coast Funeral Home with a rosary service at 6 p.m. with Deacon John Howell officiating.
Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Road, Fort Walton Beach, is in charge of arrangements.

Edna Eufaula Braddy
Edna Eufaula Braddy passed away Oct. 19, 2000, with her loving family at her bedside.
She was a longtime resident of Destin, Fla., and was born on Oct. 27, 1921, in Atlanta. She graduated from Knoxville High School in Tennessee and entered the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. She later met her husband, Master Sgt. Harold Braddy, who preceded her in death on Aug. 10, 1999.
Edna and Harold were married on Oct. 14, 1952, at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, and celebrated 47 years of love and happiness.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Carl Woodall of Panama City, Fla.; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Sharon Braddy of Mary Esther, Fla.; and grandchildren, Brian Woodall, Jason Woodall, Ryan Braddy, Jennifer Braddy and Danielle Braddy.
Edna will be remembered as a loving mother who was always there for her family and gave of herself unselfishly to those in need.
She was a member of the Order of the Amaranth, and First Baptist Church of Destin. She enjoyed bowling, fishing, sewing and volunteer work.
As a mother, she was very loving and gave tirelessly to the needs of her family and loved ones. She had a quick wit and a warm smile for everyone she met.
A visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 23, at McLaughlin Mortuary. Graveside services, with military honors, will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday in Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Fla., with the Rev. Lewis Miller officiating. Mrs. Braddy will be interred alongside her loving husband, Harold Braddy.
McLaughlin Mortuary, 17 Chestnut Ave., Fort Walton Beach, Fla., is entrusted with arrangements.

Dorothy J. Glessner
Dorothy J. Glessner of Niceville, Fla., passed away Sept. 24, 2000, at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.
A memorial service to honor her life will take place on Fri-day, Oct. 27, at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Niceville, 1800 John Sims Pkwy.
The service will take place in the church sanctuary and the family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall immediately afterward.

John J. "Sonny" Cooper, Jr.
John J. "Sonny" Cooper, Jr., age 61, of Holt, Fla., passed away Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000, in a local hospital.
Sonny was born on Dec. 19, 1938, in Santa Rosa County, Fla., to John J. Cooper Sr. and Mable Marie Barnes Cooper. Mr. Cooper had lived in Holt most of his life and retired from Fairchild Hiller. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Holt.
Survivors include his wife, Lou Cooper of Holt; one brother, Barney Cooper of Crestview, Fla.; and one sister, Jean Amrhein of Pittsburgh, Pa.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000, from the First Baptist Church of Holt with the Rev. John Stacey and David Wheat officiating.
Burial will follow in the Holt Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Brackney Funeral Service, Crestview is in charge of the arrangements.

Lt. Col. William S. Fuller
Lt. Col. William S. Fuller, 75, of Shalimar, Fla., passed away at his residence on Oct. 20, 2000.
He was an Air Force Pilot in WWII, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War, having served for 27 years.
Lt. Col. Fuller had moved to the Shalimar area in 1968 from the Philippines.
He was predeceased by his parents and six brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Laura; daughters, Sandra Avens and her husband, Billy, of Memphis, Tenn., Anita Fuller of Fort Walton Beach, and Laurann Fuller Bailey of Shalimar, Fla.
He is also survived by two granddaughters, Kerry and Holly Avens of Memphis; and a sister Dorothy Elam of Covington, Tenn.
Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, at 11 a.m. at Barrancas National Cemetery with Chaplin Frank Dole officiating. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Emerald Coast Funeral Home.
Family suggests donations be made to Hospice of Northwest Florida.
Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Road NE, Fort Walton Beach, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.

Frances M. Miller
Frances M. Miller, age 66, of Destin, Fla. passed away Oct. 19, 2000 at her home in Destin.
She was born in Geneva, Ala. on Jan. 16, 1934, but had been living in the Destin area for sometime now. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Glen E. Miller, Jr.; dad, Joseph A. Owens; sons, Ronney Batson, Rickey and wife, Barbie Batson; sister, Patsy Evans; grandchildren, Jamie Batson and Jeremy Batson.
A visitation will be held at McLaughlin Mortuary on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000, from 1 to 2 p.m. Funeral service will follow at 2 p.m.
Interment will follow the service at Beal Memorial Cemetery.
McLaughlin Mortuary is entrusted with the arrangements.

Ronald A. Shumate
Ronald A. Shumate, age 39, of Crestview, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000 at his home. He was born in Valparaiso, Fla., and a lifelong resident of Okaloosa County. He was Baptist by faith and an employee of Sandestin Beach Resort for 12 years in golf maintenance.
Survivors include a very special friend, Donna Shumate Shaw of Niceville, Fla.; step-sons, James S. Kidder and Chris P. Kidder of Niceville; aunts, Idell Powell and Nora Salvage of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Mary Liversay of Crestview; cousins, John and Charles Crews of Crestview, and Margie Ann of Texas.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000, at McLaughlin-Aultman funeral home from 2 p.m. until service time at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Early D. Skipper officiating. Burial will follow in the Cotton Cemetery near Baker, Fla.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Union Bank, 9435 US Hwy 98 W., Destin, Fla. 32550, Account 1010043081363 of Donna Shaw for Ron Shumate Assistance Fund.

Irene H. Tidwell
Irene H. Tidwell, age 83, of Crestview, Fla., died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at her home. She was born in Oneonta, Ala., Sept. 28, 1917. A resident of the area since 1983, she retired from Civil Service at Eglin A.F.B., Fla., in 1968.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph A. Tidwell in June of 1996. Irene was a very special person by all that knew her. She was loved by her family and will be deeply missed by all.
Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, Wayne L. Tidwell and Candy of Willow Park, Texas, and Thomas A. Tidwell of Crestview, Fla.; daughter and son-in-law, Marsha C. and Robert Gilbert of Navarre, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous special friends in the area.
The family will receive friends at McLaughlin-Aultman Funeral Home, Monday, Oct. 23, 2000, at 1 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in the Live Oak Memorial Park Cemetery, Crestview.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to Hospice of NW Florida, 155 Crystal Beach Rd. 135, Destin, Fla. 32540, in memory of Irene H. Tidwell.

Travis Scott Davis
Travis Scott Davis, a lifelong area resident and senior at Niceville High School, entered into rest on Oct. 20, 2000, as a result of an automobile accident in Niceville, Fla.
Travis was born on Father's Day, June 19, 1983, to the proud parents, James and Sharon Bolton Davis, Jr., in Fort Walton Beach, Fla. His family was proud of his accomplishments at such a young age. Travis was an avid soccer player, having played at Niceville High School and a member of the Sting Traveling Soccer Club.
Travis was well liked by fellow students and friends and will be sadly missed by all who knew him, especially his loving family.
Travis is survived by his parents, James and Kathleen Davis, Jr. of Laurel Hill, Fla.; mother, Sharon and step-father, Kenneth Bolton of Crestview, Fla.; three brothers, Tyler Davis and Brandon Bolton of Crestview, Fla. and Benjamin Bolton of Niceville; three sisters, Brooke Davis of Crestview, Bailey Davis of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., and Kristin Bolton of Mossy Head, Fla.; maternal grandmother, Joyce Pilgrim of Niceville; paternal grandparents, James and Laura Davis, Sr. of Florala, Ala.; step-grandparents, Kenneth and Rosemarie Bolton, Sr. of Valparaiso, Fla.; aunts and uncles, Donald and Jo Foster of Niceville, Tina and Bob Joel of Jacksonville, Fla., Ron and Kristin Pilgrim of Winter Park, Fla., Barry Immel of Houston, Mike and Brenda Davis of Enterprise, Ala.; Keith and Carol Bolton of Nashville, Tenn., and Kerry Bolton of Niceville; and several cousins.
The family will receive family and friends on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, from 6 to 8 p.m. at McLaughlin Twin Cities Funeral Home, 1405 John Sims Parkway, Niceville.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Oct. 23, 2000, at 3 p.m. at the Assembly of God Church, Highway 85 N, Niceville, with the Rev. Jay West officiating. Burial will take place at Heritage Gardens Cemetery in Niceville.
Flowers will be accepted, but memorial donations can be made in Travis's name to the charity of choice and will be greatly appreciated.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLaughlin Twin Cities Funeral Home, 1405 John Sims Parkway, Niceville.

Edith Eisner Whitney
Edith V. Eisner Whitney of Medina, Ohio, went to be with the Lord Oct. 24, 2000, at the age of 95.
She is survived by her nieces, Shirley Brill of Shirley, Mass., Bessie Wheeler of Harvard, Mass., and Priscilla Nelson of Steerling, Mass.; and her nephews, Donald Eisner of Grants Pass, Ore., Sonny Eisner of Keene, N.H., Albert Bowman of Lancaster, Mass., and David Martin of Houston.
She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur.
Visiting hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, with services immediately following at Waite & Son Funeral Homes, Medina Chapel, 765 North Court St., Medina.
