Joan J. Boisjolie
Joan J. Boisjolie, age 64, of Valparaiso, died on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.
Mrs. Boisjolie was born on Nov. 25, 1937, in Breighton, Mass., and was a resident of Valparaiso for more than 30 years.
Joan dedicated her life to the happiness of her husband, sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren and friends. She dedicated much of her time in the support of charitable causes. She enjoyed spending time with the Sons of Italy lodge and the pursuits of their endeavors.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Ronald L. Boisjolie of Valparaiso; sons Scott Boisjolie of Niceville and Darren Boisjolie of Valparaiso; daughters-in-law, Jimmie Boisjolie of Niceville and Lisa Boisjolie of Valparaiso; grandchildren Scott Joseph (Joey) Boisjolie, Jacqueline Blake Boisjolie, Taylor JerryAnn Boisjolie, Alec Boisjolie and Kyle Boisjolie; mother Patricia Ann Gerber of Boston, Mass.; sisters-in-law Tootie Goodwin and Georgette Malloy of Boston, Mass.; uncle Joe Nauseda of Boston, Mass., many nieces and nephews and special extended family Ray and Janie Tomes of Coeurdalene, Idaho.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to the Children's Advocacy Center of Niceville at 401 McEwan Dr. Niceville, FL, 32578. The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of Fort Walton Beach Medical Center for their care and compassion. The family will be receiving friends at their home between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000. Funeral services will be announced at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of McLaughlin Funeral Home, Niceville.

Sevilla Fern Harrington
Sevilla Fern Harrington, age 81, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at Westwood Healthcare Center.
Sevilla was a homemaker, seamstress and loved crocheting. The highlight of her life for the past six years was helping to care for her daughter's foster babies. She had numerous friends and acquaintances in the Westwood apartments and had a special relationship with the staff at Westwood Health Care. She also enjoyed the visits from the faithful friends from Cinco Bayou Baptist Church.
Sevilla is survived by her daughters, Linda Kortum and husband Bill of Shalimar, Fla., and Donna Slade and husband Frank of Fort Walton Beach; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Lillian Playton and husband Paul of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and brother, Owen Oliphant and wife Nellie of Chanute, Kan.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, at Emerald Coast Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held in Humboldt, Kan., later in the month.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Alzheimer's Society; or to the Children's Advocacy Center in Niceville, Fla.

Derek Sims
Derek Sims, age 62, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at his residence.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 20, at 12:30 p.m. at Beal Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Derek Sims Burial Fund, c/o Teresa Saunders, 113 Racetrack Road, Fort Walton Beach, FL 32547.

Dr. Valentine Rhodes
Dr. Valentine Joseph Rhodes, M.D., F.A.C.S. of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., went home to the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000.
Born in Philadelphia he was the son of the late Valentine W. Rhodes and Veronica Jeffries. He graduated from St. Peter's College in Jersey City, N.J., with a bachelor of arts pre-med degree and from Seton Hall University, New Jersey College of Medicine in the first graduating class. He did his internship and first year of surgical residency at the University Hospital in Jersey City before being inducted into the U.S. Navy during the Laotian crisis. He served a year at sea with West Pac and a year with the Marine Air Wing.
He returned to surgical specialization at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. He did post graduate work in vascular surgery in New York State University Medical Center, Downstate Division.
Dr. Rhodes began his medical practice at Kimbal Medical Center in Lakewood, N.J., where he became chairman in the Department of Surgery. He later limited his practice to vascular surgery at Point Pleasant Hospital and Brick Hospital, where he was chief of vascular services and continued practicing until forced to retire for medical reasons. Dr. Rhodes received a letter of commendation for valor at sea while in the Navy. Also, the People to People Award while in the Orient. He received a certificate of Pioneer in Medicine in the state of New Jersey. He was certified in general and vascular surgery and had several patients for bypass and grafts and published and presented papers at international meetings on his work and the successes of his innovative ideas.
He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Clayton Rhodes; his beloved children, Josette Rhodes Carroll, Amanda Rhodes Finley, Brett Rhodes, Shane Rhodes and Dylan Rhodes, all of the home; sister, Valerie Kane of Melbourne, Fla.; grandchildren, Noelle, Jasmine, Julia and John; mother and father-in-law, Gloria and Bill Clayton; cousins, Joanne and John Flachsmann; and sons-in-law, John Carroll and Jody Finley.
Dr. Rhodes loved to garden and did all his own landscaping. He was a talented artist and had his work shown in New Jersey.
Dr. Rhodes deeply touched the lives of all who knew him and had a positive impact on so many. He will be loved and missed forever.
A special place is held in our hearts for all of those who helped guide our family through this most difficult time: Dr. Roger and Jetta Cook, Monsignor Flaherty, Deacon Jeff, George and Kathy from Hospice of Northwest Florida and many others.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, at St. Rita's Catholic Church in Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., with a prayer service at 6 p.m.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, Dec. 21, at 10 a.m. with Monsignor James J. Flaherty officiating.

Isabel M. Sanchez
Isabel M. Sanchez, age 96, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, in a local hospital.
She was born on July 29, 1904, in Madrid, Spain, and had resided in Florida since 1974.
Mrs. Sanchez was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter, Maria (Cookie) Clasbey; son-in-law, Johnny Clasbey; grandson, George Clasbey; and granddaughter, Christina Clasbey.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Bonanti officiating. Interment will follow in Bayview Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Sanchez's honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn.

Joan Jenny Sorenson
Joan Jenny Sorenson, age 68, of Crestview, Fla., passed away Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000.
She was born on Sept. 6, 1932, in Long Island, N.Y., and had resided in Crestview for the past three years.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda and husband Buck Smith of Crestview; sons, William T. Smith and fianc�e Juanita Mathis of Bermuda, and Rodger and wife Debbie Golgart of Grand Terrace, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at Our Savior Lutheran Church on Tuesday night.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Pam Golden and Gerry Boone, her caregivers, and to Hospice of Northwest Florida.

Trammell Starr Holmes
Chief Master Sgt. Trammell Starr Holmes, age 72, of Mary Esther, Fla., passed away at his residence Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, after an extended illness.
Trammell was a U.S. Air Force veteran of 28 years and served in both the Vietnam and Korean wars. He was Baptist by faith and a member of Alpha Masonic Lodge 172 in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Susie Lewis Holmes; brother, C.B. Holmes; and sister, Stella Pierce.
Trammell is survived by his wife, Velma; son, Jeffrey B. Holmes and wife Sherry of Fort Walton Beach; daughters, Cynthia D. Thatcher and husband Neal of Colorado Springs, and Susan R. Brenner of North Charleston, S.C.; and five grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Harlan Holmes of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Herman Holmes of Rome, Ga.; and sisters, Effie Stanley of Knoxville, Tenn., Ruby Floyd of Cincinnati, and Barbara Evans of Lilburn, Ga.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, at Emerald Coast Funeral Home, with a Masonic service at 6:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 22, with the Rev. Paul Wolfe officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Fla., with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Shriner's Crippled Children Hospital.

Harvey H. Mitchell
Harvey H. Mitchell, age 90, of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, in a Niceville, Fla., nursing facility.
He was born to Charlie A. and Callie Frances (Tew) Mitchell on Dec. 25, 1909, in Samson, Ala. The family moved to Noma, Fla., in 1911, and then to Freeport, Fla., in 1921.
Mr. Mitchell graduated from Walton High School in 1929 and from Campbell Business College in Dothan, Ala., in 1930. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater of Operations. He was a member of First Baptist Church, and past master of DeFuniak Springs Lodge 170 F&AM.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother; wife, Verna Whiddon Mitchell; and sisters, Ruth Blankenship, Agnes Crawford and Jeanette Griswold. He is survived by his sister, Mildred Brown of DeFuniak Springs; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Magnolia Cemetery with Dr. Robert Jay officiating.

George Charles Niemi
George Charles Niemi, born May 8, 1918, in Ashby, Mass., died Dec. 19, 2000.
He was a resident of Navarre, Fla.
Mr. Niemi was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth. He is survived by two sons, Carl Niemi of Providence, R.I., and Wayne Niemi, daughter-in-law, Sandra, and grandson, Jason of North Andover, Mass. He is also survived by numerous special friends, including Arlene Webster and Shawn, Jeannie and Heather Barrineau. The Barrineaus were longtime caregivers of George, allowing him to remain at home and
in the Navarre area as he wished even as his health deteriorated.
George had a long, fulfilling career in various law enforcement agencies, including a term of service with the Central Intelligence Agency and as a police chief in Massachusetts. He also obtained Mason of the 32nd degree. After law enforcement George moved to Deerfield, N.H., where he started Deerfield Associates, a real estate company. He then retired to Navarre in 1985.
But George was not one to just sit on the beach and soak up the rays. George was instrumental in the early 1990s in forming an AARP group in Navarre that met monthly to present a range of issues affecting seniors. He was also active in beginning the Navarre Seniors association and was a charter member of Navarre Presbyterian Church.
A memorial service will be held at Navarre Presbyterian Church at 6 p.m. on Jan. 12, 2001, with a visitation to follow. Burial will take place in Fitchburg, Mass.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Navarre Presbyterian Church.

Isabel A. Noland
Isabel A. Noland, 941 Pocahontas Drive, Fort Walton Beach, Fla., died Dec. 20, 2000, of heart failure. She was born on Sept. 13, 1923, in Cleveland.
Her husband, Ronald G. Noland, preceded her in death in 1967. Isabel was a native of Warren, Ohio, having moved here in 1980 from Arlington, Va., after retiring from 32 years of employment in federal civil service with the Army, Air Force and Navy in Warren, Atlanta and Washington, D.C.
Isabel was an active member and past officer of Chapter 1428 of NARFE and Chapter 3493 of AARP. She was a non-practicing Catholic.
Isabel is survived by several cousins in Ohio and Florida, as well as many friends in Florida, Ohio, Georgia, Virginia and Maryland.
As requested, Isabel will be cremated and no services will be held. Isabel has requested that individual prayers be made for the purification of her soul.
McLaughlin Mortuary, 17 Chestnut Ave., Fort Walton Beach, is in charge of arrangements.

Jessica Torri Miller
Jessica Torri Cadenhead Miller, age 37, of Navarre, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000.
Torri was born on Sept. 23, 1963, in Niceville, Fla.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Miller of Navarre; brother, Eric Paul Cadenhead; father, William Paul Cadenhead; mother, Mary Elizabeth Maynard; and grandmothers, Bernice Cadenhead and Nell Ree Robinson.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Clary-Godwin Freeport Chapel.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, at Clary-Godwin Freeport Chapel. Burial will follow in Hatcher Cemetery.
