OCALA, Fla. - Stella Bailey, 76, passed away Monday (Dec. 17, 2001) at the Sylvia Hospice House in Ocala following an extended illness.
Mrs. Bailey was a native of Gate City, Va., and had lived in Florida for the past 13 years. She attended the First Assembly of God Church in Ocala and was a former employee of Eastman Kodak.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Jones; two brothers, Hobert Jones and Homer Jones; one sister, Jennie Jones.
Surviving are her husband, August Bailey, Ocala; two sisters, Bonnie DeSpain, Gray, and Elsie Burgess, of Maryland; one brother, Ray Jones, Hiram, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 10 to 11 a.m. today at Johnson Funeral Home, Church Hill, and anytime at the home of her sister-in-law, Dorothy Bailey, 1114 Granada Court, Church Hill.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Alan Buckles officiating.
Burial will follow in Mountain Home National Cemetery.

Edna Begley, 78, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Edna Begley, 78, entered into eternal rest Thursday morning (Dec. 20, 2001).
Edna worked at the Kingsport Press in the 1940's and S.H. Kress for 23 years until they closed. She then worked with K-Mart until her retirement.
Edna was a feisty little woman who loved life.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, K.R. and Parolee Begley; one sister, Clara Lane; and four brothers, Harold, L.D., Fred and Newford Begley.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Delilah and Joe Barringer, Blountville; two grandchildren, Nick Barringer and Kristi Vicars; two great-grandchildren, Harlie Jenkins and Storm Phillips; one sister, Elma Whittemore, Kingsport; two brothers, Kemp Begley, Kingsport and Grady Begley, Cocoa, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in Oak Hill Cemetery with Pastor Joe W. Byrd officiating.

Daniel A. Bishop, 79, Kingsport.
Services for Daniel Alfred Bishop, 79, Kingsport, who went to be with his eternal Savior on Sunday (Dec. 16, 2001), will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home Chapel, downtown, with the Rev. Joel Smith officiating.
Singers will be granddaughters, and special singers will be Amber, Tiffany and James.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home or anytime at the home.
Interment will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park with military rites conducted by the Charles DeWitt Byrd Post No. 3382 of the VFW.

GREENEVILLE - Vesta Ellen Booker, 86, died Wednesday (Dec. 19, 2001) at Life Care Center of Greeneville.
She was a housewife and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Marion and Lula Burgess Fellers; husband, Curtis Lee Booker; granddaughter, Tammy Renee Booker; three brothers, William Gordan Fellers, Newman Boyd Fellers and Jack Fellers; two sisters, Imogene Robinette and Evelyn Richards.
Surviving are two daughters and one son-in-law, Pauline Smith of Greeneville and Nancy and Bill Jones of Bulls Gap; one son and daughter-in-law, Bobby J. and Mary Ellen Booker of Kingsport; two grandsons and spouses, David and Peggy Jones of Mosheim, Bobby and Marci Booker Jr., of Kingsport; one granddaughter and spouse, Debbie and James Allen of Nashville; six great-grandchildren, Amy Jones of Mosheim, Maggie and Kaitie Prater, Elizabeth and Christofer Allen of Nashville, Cody Booker of Kingsport; one great-great-grandchild, Hannah Jones of Mosheim; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Edison and Gladys Fellers of Mosheim, W.M. and Wilma Fellers Jr., of Kingsport; one sister and brother-in-law, Maxie and Billy Hilton of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Harold Hawkins officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Providence Cemetery at County Line (Hawkins County).

Martha Catron, 59, Indianapolis, Ind.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Martha Cynthia Catron, 59, died Sunday (Dec. 16, 2001) at Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born in Lee County, Va., she had been a resident of Indiana about eight years and was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Baptist church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip and Bertha Reynolds Shuler; four sisters, Mattie Christian, Margaret Thomas, Reba Nicholas and Flower Shuler; and two brothers, Benny and Otis Shuler.
Surviving are two sons, Doug Catron, Elwood and Don Catron, Noblesville, Ind.; daughter-in-law, Amy Catron, Noblesville, Ind.; three grandchildren; one brother, James Shuler, Big Stone Gap, Va.; four sisters, Clautee Carter, Big Stone Gap, Va., Lola Fannon, Pennington Gap, Va., Kathy Holleman, Georgia, and Emily Vaughn, Duffield, Va.

Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery with military services conducted by the Charles Dewitt Byrd VFW Post #3382 officiating.

Sam Cook, 65, Surgoinsville.
SURGOINSVILLE - Sam W. Cook, 65, passed away Wednesday (Dec. 19, 2001) at his home after a period of declining health.
Mr. Cook was a native of Nashville, Tenn., and had lived in Surgoinsville since 1972. He was a member of Saint Henry Catholic Church in Rogersville and served on the church council.
He was a retired Child Support Process Service, Office of the District Attorney General, Third Judicial District. He was a graduate of Father Ryan High School in Nashville and Middle Tennessee State University. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1958. He was a life member of the Church Hill VFW Post No. 9754.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Hattie Filson Cook.
Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Katherine Bean Cook; three sons and daughters-in-law, Sam and Kammy Cook, Gray, Murray and Rhonda Cook, Evergreen, Colo., and Mark Cook, Surgoinsville; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Roy Farne, Church Hill; six grandchildren, Alicia Cook, Hannah Cook, Benjamin Farne, Savannah Cook, Jacob Cook and Jared Cook; two sisters, Bettye Braswell, Nashville, Annette Liles, Memphis; one sister-in-law, Mary Jane Brown, Surgoinsville; and several nieces and nephews.

ROGERSVILLE - Harvey Clifton Davis, 68, Hwy. 66 North, died Thursday (Dec. 20, 2001) at his residence following an extended illness.
He was a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church and was retired from International Playing Card and Label Co.
Mr. Davis was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 277 F&AM Sneedville. He was a Shriner and a member of the Kerbela Temple, Knoxville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Lee and Anna Ray Davis.

R. Cecil Dingus, 85, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - R. Cecil Dingus, 85, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday (Dec. 19, 2001) at Holston Valley Medical Center.
He was born in Ft. Blackmore, Va., and had been a resident of Kingsport most of his life.
He was a member of Kingsport First Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed walking, ball games and other sports. Mr. Dingus retired from Eastman Kodak in March, 1979 after 41 years of service as a lab technician.
Mr. Dingus was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Lou Dingus; his parents, George Oscar and Hettie Penley Dingus; brothers, Ralph Dingus, Michael Ray Dingus and Ronald Lee Dingus.
Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Genevieve and Charles Loy, Knoxville; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Brenda Dingus, Kingsport; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Gracie and Rice Sams, Kingsport; a sister-in-law, Sue Dingus, Chicago, Ill.; several nieces and nephews.

Bertha Helton, 53, Stickleyville, Va.
STICKLEYVILLE, Va. - Bertha Helton, 53, went to be with the Lord Tuesday morning (Dec. 18, 2001) at Holston Valley Medical Center.
Born in Stickleyville, Va., she had been a resident of Lee County, Va., most of her life.
She was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bascom and Justine Wilson Harless; and one son, Shafter Clyde Helton.
Surviving are her husband, Clyde Helton of Stickleyville, Va.; daughter, Subrenda Dillman and husband, Terry of Stickleyville, Va.; three brothers, Arville, T.J. and Gary Harless, all of Stickleyville, Va.; five sisters, Alpha Spears of Stickleyville, Va., Cora Murray of Kingsport, Allie Neal of Pottstown, Pa., Rita Bartman of Macungie, Pa., and Patty Newton of Crouse, N.C.

Fred E. Hembree Sr., 59, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Fred E. Hembree Sr., 59, went to be with the Lord Wednesday (Dec. 19, 2001) after a long illness.
He was born in Haywood County, N.C., and had been a resident of Kingsport since 1973. He was a member of Sunnyside Baptist Church.
He retired in January 2000 from Lowe's Contractor Yard in Gray. Fred enjoyed traveling and had visited 24 states and Bermuda in the last two years.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Clara Hembree (Feb. 2, 1999); his father, Raymond Gray (May, 1992).
Surviving are his wife, Louise Bright Hembree; a daughter, Wanda Williams, Kingsport; a stepdaughter, Karen McClellan, Mount Carmel; two sons, Sonny Hembree, Sulphur Springs, Steve Hembree, Atlanta, Ga.; six grandchildren, Summer Williams, Chelsey Williams, Alice Hembree, Hope Hembree, Belle Hembree, Emily McClellan; his mother, Lucy Gray, Raeford, N.C.; sisters, Linda Kelchner, Raeford, N.C., and Minnie Bramble, Hope Mills, N.C.; several nieces and nephews.

He was a deacon and member of Caney Creek Missionary Baptist Church.
Mr. Lipe was a deacon and member of Caney Creek Missionary Baptist Church.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of American Legion and Joseph Rogers VFW Post No. 9543.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Julie Freeman Lipe; and four brothers, Sam, Ray, Mack and Willie "Brud" Lipe.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Henretta Price Lipe, of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, James Michael and Regina Lipe, Bean Station; one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Ron Shanks, Fairfield, Penn.; three grandchildren two stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, John Lipe, Rogersville; several nieces and nephews.

Rosa G. Nichols, 81, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Rosa G. Johnson Nichols, 81, Colonial Heights, went to be with the Lord Thursday (Dec. 20, 2001) at the Indian Path Hospital following a brief illness.
Rosa was born June 25, 1920 in Bakersville, N.C., a daughter of the late Rile W. and Lizzie Buchanan Johnson. She had lived in Sullivan County since November 1969 and retired Aug. 1, 1985 as a sales lady for J.C. Penney Co.
Rosa was a member of Sunnyside Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Troy Johnson in February of 2001.
Surviving are her loving husband of 60 years, the Rev. Avery V. Nichols, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra Templeton and husband, Michael and Doris Jones and husband Van, all of Kingsport; three granddaughters, Chris Richardson, Kathy Fields, both of Kingsport, and Libby Buchanan, Spruce Pine, N.C.; two grandsons, David Jones and Scott Templeton, both of Kingsport; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Zella Sparks, Bakersville, N.C.

He was a retired carmen for Amtrak Railroad, Lorton, Va., and the former owner of Crickett's Drive In, Wise, Va.
Mr. Owens was a member of the First Church of God, Wise, Va., and a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Ann Steffey Owens.
Surviving are one son, Ames Owens and wife, Cindy, Woodbridge, Va.; one daughter, Steffey Owens Powers and husband, Ricky, Wise, Va.; one sister, Louise Purkey, Castlewood, Va.; four grandchildren, Joshua Owens, Isaiah Owens, Logan Powers and Ethan Powers.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Sturgill Funeral Home, Wise, Va.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Ben Murphy and Dr. Charles Estep officiating.
Burial will follow in Wise Cemetery.

Lillian Raber, 83, Mount Carmel.
MOUNT CARMEL - Calling hours for Lillian V. Raber, 83, who went to be with the Lord Wednesday (Dec. 19, 2001), will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the East Lawn Funeral Home.
Lillian will be taken to Garden Chapel in Orlando, Fla., for an inurnment.

Harold Reynolds, 73, Kingsport.
Services for Harold E. "Buck" Reynolds, 73, of 2609 Suffolk St., Kingsport, who went to be with the Lord Tuesday (Dec. 18, 2001), will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in the Oak Hill Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard Ratliff officiating.
Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Charity Children's Home in Southern India. Please contact the family for the address to send contributions.

Faye Stapleton, 99, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Etta Faye Stapleton, 99, 818 W. Carters Valley Road, died Thursday morning (Dec. 20, 2001) at Indian Path Medical Center.
She was of the Baptist faith.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Stapleton; a granddaughter, Theresa Crawford; two sons-in-law, Ray E. Johnson and Kenneth Queen; her parents; four sisters and two brothers.
Surviving are three daughters and son-in-law, Lorene Johnson, Kingsport, Helen Queen, Holly Springs, N.C., Marie and Bill Kern, Kingsport; one son and daughter-in-law, Charles Jr. and Iva Stapleton, Blountville; six grandchildren, Linda Bowlin, Sandi Thomasson, Gloria Franks, Sherry Hicks, Danny Queen and Wayne Johnson; nine great-grandchildren, Kim Lane, Melissa Franks, Heather Crawford, Michelle McMillian, Amber Crawford, Arwin Thomasson, Chris Franks, David Thomasson and B.J. Clendenin; one great-great-grandson, Kenneth lane; two sisters, Irene Vermillion and Pauline Lingerfelt, both of Kingsport.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown or at the homes of Lorene Johnson, 1012 W. Carters Valley Road or Bill and marie Kern, 1121 Drumcastle Avenue.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Tony Gonzalez officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va.
Pallbearers will be Danny Queen, Wayne Johnson, B.J. Clendenin, Chris Franks, Howard Bowlin, Michael Franks, David Thomasson and Richard Hicks.
