Lonnie E. Hammonds, 60, Gray.
GRAY - Lonnie Edgar Hammonds, 60, 116 Hicks Drive, died Sunday (Feb. 10, 2002) in Anderson Health Care Center following a lengthy illness.
He was a Scott County, Va., native and a son of the late Charlie and Ann Eliza Jennings Hammonds. He had lived in this area for 38 years.
He was a graduate of Rye Cove High School, Clinchport, Va.
Sgt. Hammonds served over 30 years with the military service of the United States, including tours of duty in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait serving his country.
He was employed as an inspector with Bosche Braking System.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Two sisters, Sallie and Mattie Hammonds; a half brother, Charlie Estep; and a half sister, Thelma Estep, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Christine Conner Hammonds; three sons, Timothy "Roscoe" Hammonds and David Lynn Hammonds, both of Gray, and Chuckey Lee Hammonds and his wife Libby, Unicoi; one sister, Shirley Lane, Gate City, Va.; a half brother, Robert Estep, Kingsport; two special grandchildren, Elisha and C.J. Light, Unicoi; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a special great-niece, Brianna Gloner, Gate City.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Morris-Baker Funeral Home, Johnson City.

Bill Hensley, 60, Gate City, Va.
GATE CITY, Va. - Services for Willie (Bill) L. Hensley, 60, who passed away Friday (Feb. 8, 2002), will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at the chapel of Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., with the Rev. George Willis, the Rev. Eckel Herron and the Rev. Larry Tolley officiating.
The Midway Quartet will provide the music.
Burial will be at Holston View Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are Tim Gibson, Greg Tipton, Trevor Bellamy, Greg Bellamy, Daniel Thacker, Dennis Hensley, Tony Bellamy, J.R. Hensley, Alvin Jones, Tommy Jones, Roger Hensley, Tim Thacker, David Thacker.
Honorary pallbearers are Jason Cole, Roger Shelton, Curt Arnold, Wayne Davidson and Danny Glover.

Pollyanna Horne, 73, Rogersville.
ROGERSVILLE - Graveside services for Pollyanna Horne, 73, Shanks Gap Road, who died Friday (Feb. 8, 2002), will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at McKinney Cemetery.
Family and friends will meet at the cemetery by 10:45 a.m. Monday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Surgoinsville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 134, Surgoinsville, Tenn. 37873.
Broome Funeral Home, Rogersville, is in charge of the arrangements.

Dora E. Horton, 93, Duffield, Va.
DUFFIELD, Va. - Committal services for Mrs. Dora E. Horton, 93, who passed away Thursday (Feb. 7, 2002), will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Horton Cemetery. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the services.
Duffield Funeral Home at Thomas Village is in charge of the arrangements.

William H. Jordan, 88, Anniston, Ala.
ANNISTON, Ala. - William H. "Fat" Jordan, 88, died Saturday (Feb. 9, 2002).
Mr. Jordan was a graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology and served as a major in World War II in anti-aircraft in Europe and Italy. He was a coach at Georgia Tech for several years and was one of the few who made first team in both football and basketball in the Southeastern Conference. He lettered in three sports: football, basketball and baseball. Mr. Jordan won the Mid South heavy weight boxing championship in 1934 with a knockout in 22 seconds of the first round.
He was owner of Toohey Jordan Insurance Co., in Kingsport prior to retirement.
Mr. Jordan was preceded in death his sisters, Mildred Tidmore, Thelma Tyson and Sara Rogers; and a brother, Ed Jordan.
Surviving are his daughter, Janice Jordan Duncan, Kingsport; son, William H. Jordan Jr., Kingsport; brothers, Robert Jordan, Anniston, Ala., Lamar Jordan, Dallas, Tex., and Tom Jordan, Ft. Worth, Tex.; brother-in-law, Willard Rogers, Anniston, Ala.
Calling hours are from 2 to 3 p.m. today at Forestlawn Gardens.
Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. today at Forestlawn Gardens with the Rev. Celia Cox officiating.
Interment will be in Forestlawn.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to McCoy Memorial Methodist Church, P.O. Box 2136, Anniston, Ala. 36202.

KINGSPORT - Letha H. Keesling, 91, died at 12:15 p.m. Sunday (Feb. 10, 2002) at Brian Center Nursing Home, Weber City, Va.

Mrs. Beulah L. Lewis, 88, Hampton.
HAMPTON - Mrs. Beulah L. Lewis, 88, of 131 Ed Lewis Road, died Saturday (Feb. 9, 2002) at her residence following a brief illness.
Mrs. Lewis was a native and lifelong resident of Carter County and was the daughter of the late Pearl and Annie Lewis. She was a homemaker and a member of the Union Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Lewis Sr. in 1969; and one brother, Kenneth Lewis.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Nadine and Bob Million, Chattanooga, and Rose and Ted Smith, Johnson City; seven sons and five daughters-in-law, Paul Lewis Jr. and Janie Lewis, Pat and Linda Lewis, and Randy Lewis, all of Elizabethton, John and Peggy Lewis, Hampton, James D. "Jim" and Susan Lewis, Kingsport, Shelton and Janie Lewis, Johnson City, and Wayne Lewis, Bluff City; two brothers, Raymond Lewis and Mel Lewis, both of Elizabethton; two sisters, Georgia Shoun, Elizabethton, and Lena Lawson, of Indiana; 21 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, or you may call any time at the residence, 131 Ed Lewis Road, Hampton.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Union Baptist Church with the Rev. Mickey Beal, Mr. Shelton Lewis and Mr. James D. (Jim) Lewis officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Union Baptist Church Choir.
Mrs. Lewis will lie in state Tuesday at the church from 12 noon until 2 p.m. prior to the service.
Interment will follow in the Lewis Cemetery, Hampton.
Active pallbearers will be the following grandsons: Eddie Ray Lewis, Mike Lewis, Shane Lewis, Jeffery Million, Mark Million, Craig Smith, Bryan Smith, Terry Lewis, Randy Lewis Jr., and Chad Lewis.

Pallbearers will be Jason Linkous, Aaron Linkous, Bill Brooks, Justin Linkous, Mike Horner and Bill Smith.

KINGSPORT - Graveside services for Lida Raymell Boyd Lockhart, 73, who went peacefully to be with the Lord at 1:35 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 9, 2002), will be conducted at 12 noon today in the Garden of the Well of East Lawn Memorial Park.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

John (Ted) Norris, 68, Bristol, Tenn.
BRISTOL, Tenn. - Services for John G. (Ted) Norris, 68, who passed away Friday (Feb. 8, 2002), will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with the Rev. J.W. Depew officiating.
Burial will follow in the Garden of the Mausoleum of East Lawn Memorial Park with full military honors conducted by VFW Patton-Crosswhite Post No. 6975.
The Color Guard will serve as pallbearers.

Roy Price, 65, Surgoinsville.
Graveside services for Roy Kenneth (Peanut) Price, 65, 429 Fudges Chapel Road, Surgoinsville, who passed away Friday (Feb. 8, 2002), will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Highland Cemetery in Rogersville.
Pallbearers will be Chris Sorah, Robbie Manis, Doug Lawson, Hayden Mallory, Mike Lipe and Marty Roberts.

Gladys Richards, 86, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Gladys Marie Richards, 86, died Sunday (Feb. 10, 2002).
She resided with a special granddaughter, Belinda Cox Freeman and family of 111 Hemlock Road, Kingsport. She was a very special mother and grandmother.
Mrs. Richards was retired as a cashier from Giant Food.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Richards; parents, John and Effi Garber Williams; two sons, Kenneth and Billy Joe Richards; one daughter, Barbara Messineo; two brothers, John C. and R.L. Williams; one sister, Anna Greer; and one grandson, Timothy Richards.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Charlotte Woods and husband Charles, Elk Ridge, Md., and Nancy Brashear and Jerry, Henderson, Ky.; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Charlotte Richards, Kingsport, and Kay Richards, St. Petersburg, Fla.; sisters, Sarah Talley, Morristown, Berniece Robinson, Jonesborough, Betty McCoy and John, Kingsport; sister-in-law, Helen Williams, Kingsport; many other nephews and nieces.
Calling hours are from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Elgrand Boyer and the Rev. Gary Craumbley Jr. officiating.
Graveside services will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.
Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Terry Sweeney, 78, Dungannon, Va.
DUNGANNON, Va. – Terry McGrand Sweeney, 78, entered into rest on Saturday (Feb. 9, 2002) at Ridgecrest Manor Nursing Home, Duffield, Va.
He was born in Scott County, Va., on Feb. 25, 1923 to the late William Jarvey and Maggie Lucas Sweeney.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters.
Mr. Sweeney was of the Baptist faith and retired from the Virginia state Highway Department in 1972.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Rhoton Sweeney, Dungannon; three daughters and sons-in-law, Patty Hass, Weber City, Va., Maggie and Jim Collins, Gate City, Va., and Aggie and Leon Marshall, Castlewood, Va.; four sisters, Toshia Kidwiler, Damascus, Md., Berniece Tabler, Mt. Airy, Md., Marjorie Wren, Renzie, Miss., and Maxie Tuttle, Vallejo, Calif.; two brothers, Jack Sweeney, Hackleburg, Ala., and Timmons Sweeney, Dungannon; five grandchildren, Leon Terry, Christopher Leon Marshall, Meghan Danielle, Carie Leigh Collins and Anthony Joe Hass; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Gate City Funeral Home, Gate City, Va., and anytime at the residence.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Steve Collins and the Rev. Paul Blessing officiating. Music will be provided by Lee Smith Singers.
Burial will follow the service at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va.

Shirley Thompson, 60, Norton, Va.
NORTON, Va. - Shirley Ann Thompson, 60, passed away Saturday (Feb. 9, 2002) at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Goldsboro, N.C.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Creed Bolling.
Surviving are two sons, Ron Bates of Alexandria, Va., and Charles Thompson of Norton; her mother, Pauline Bolling of Norton; two brothers, Emory Bolling of Canton, Ohio, and Jimmy Bolling of Winter Haven, Fla.; five sisters, Cora Minor of Burdine, Ky., Florence Gibson of Portsmouth, Va., Bessie Thompson and Teresa Bolling, both of Norton, and Charlotte Adams of Wise, Va.; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Sturgill Funeral Home, Wise, Va.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Charles Carter officiating.
Burial will follow in the Laurel Grove Cemetery, Norton, Va.

Niles Glen Wheelock, 86, Jonesborough.
JONESBOROUGH - Mr. Niles Glen Wheelock, 86, Harmony Rd., Harmony community, died Sunday (Feb. 10, 2002) at Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness.
A lifelong resident of Washington County, he was a son of the late Grant and Fina Ferguson Wheelock. He was an active member of Harmony Baptist Church where he served as deacon for 50 years.
He was a construction worker and a member of the Plumber & Pipefitters Local No. 538 in Johnson City.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby J. Wheelock in 2000; two sisters, Lucille Anderson and Eula Wheelock; and one brother, Newt Wheelock.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Tobie and Allen Ferguson, Kingsport; one son and daughter-in-law, Benny "Bo" and Vanessa Wheelock, Jonesborough; five grandchildren, Joey Ferguson and wife Sandy, Pawley's Island, S.C., Jamey Ferguson and wife Alesia, Blountville, Macky Ferguson and wife Luanne, Jonesborough, Traci Pate and husband Steve, Jonesborough, and Nikki Witt and husband Steve, Elizabethton; three great-granddaughters, Liza Ferguson, Kati Pate and Marlee Witt; three great-grandsons, Matthew and Niles Ferguson, and Jordan Pate; one sister, Ceola Cox, Gray; four brothers, James and Nat Wheelock, both of Kingsport, Al Wheelock, Gray, and Grant Wheelock Jr., of Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Harmony Baptist Church, 1177 Harmony Rd., Jonesborough. The family will also receive friends at the homes of his daughter, Tobie Ferguson, 1113 Jackson Hollow Rd., Kingsport, and son, Benny "Bo" Wheelock, 122 Harmony Heights Rd., Jonesborough.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church with Dr. Michael Oaks, the Rev. Steve Pate and the Rev. Steve Witt officiating.
Interment services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Harmony Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.
Memorial donations may be made to the Harmony Baptist Church Building Fund, 1177 Harmony Rd., Jonesborough, Tenn. 37659.

James H. Williams, 67, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - James H. (Jim) Williams, 67, passed away at Bristol Hospice on Saturday (Feb. 9, 2002) after a brief illness.
He was born in Wise County, Va., and lived most of his life in Kingsport. The last few years he resided in Mountain City, Tenn.
Mr. Williams was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma J. Williams; and parents, Clifford and Kathleen Lawson Williams.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Francescon and husband Ken, of Kingsport, Susan Quillen and husband Dwight, of Kingsport; four sons, Jerry and Martha Williams, Larry and Karen Williams, both of Kingsport, Robbie and Bobbie Williams, Chattanooga, and Shayne Williams, Mountain City; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sisters, Sharon Brown, Donna Overlin, of North Carolina, Phyllis Holder, of Kingsport; brothers, Glenn Williams, of Church Hill, Robert Williams, of Kingsport, Buddy Williams, of South Carolina, and Paul Williams, of North Carolina.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at the Oak Hill Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Robert Williams officiating.
Graveside services will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be sons and grandsons.
The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to Bristol Hospice House.
