Ordie C. Baines, 79, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Ordie Columbus Baines, 79, went to be with the Lord at 8 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 19, 2002) in the Holston Valley Medical Center after a brief illness.
Ordie was born Aug. 26, 1922 in Sullivan County, Tenn., and was a son of the late Ordie M. and Lora (Nelson) Baines. He was married to the late Helen (Wilson) Baines who passed away in 1995. He retired from Mead in the Maintenance Department.
Mr. Baines served with the U.S. Army in the Philippines during World War II.
He was a member of Arnold's Chapel Holiness Church.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Danny Joe and Linda Baines, Kingsport; grandchildren, Danny Joe (Joey) and wife, Beverly Baines, Fall Branch, and Joshua Matthew Baines, Kingsport; great-grandchildren, Melissa and Becky Baines; brothers, J.R., D.L. and Richard Baines, all of Fall Branch, James and Walter (Cary) Baines, all of Kingsport; sisters, Cene Ferguson, Fall Branch, and Mary Sue Painter, Mount Carmel.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at East Lawn Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Hagan Webb, the Rev. Roy Brickey and the Rev. Sam Williams officiating.
Graveside service with full military honors will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday by VFW Post No. 3382 of Kingsport in the garden of Apostle's of the East Lawn Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank Dr. Carl Bendeck and the staff on the 6th floor at Holston Valley Medical Center for all their kindness.
Family will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be brothers of Arnold's Chapel Holiness Church.

Kermit Calton, 75, Duffield, Va.
Graveside services for Kermit Calton, 75, of Duffield, who passed away on Monday afternoon (Feb. 18, 2002), will be held at 2 p.m. today at McKinney-Carter Cemetery with Evangelist Kenneth Neeley officiating.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home for procession to the cemetery.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
The Duffield Funeral Home at Thomas Village is in charge of arrangements.

Shirley Crawford, 64, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Shirley Lee Crawford, 64, 3220 Rushmore Rd., went to with the Lord at 5 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 19, 2002) following an extended period of poor health.
Shirley was born in Kingsport and had lived here her entire life. She graduated from Sullivan High School and was a member of Mill Creek Missionary Baptist Church.
She was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Her parents, Harold and Edna Hood; son, Hobert Randy Crawford; sister, Edith Phillips; and a brother, Leonard Gordon Hood preceded her in death.
Surviving are her husband, Hobert R. Crawford, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Dane and Joan Crawford, Belmont, N.C.; two grandchildren, Michael Crawford and Keith Crawford; sister, Carol Cox, Kingsport; three brothers, Sammy Hood, Roy Hood, and Johnny Hood, all of Kingsport.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Chapel, downtown.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jim Spivey officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at East Lawn Memorial Park.

Charles Davis, 57, Appalachia, Va.
APPALACHIA, Va. - Charles Johnny Davis, 57, passed away Monday (Feb. 18, 2002) at Norton Community Hospital.
Arrangements are incomplete.

Erin Esteppe, 18, Goldsboro, N.C.
GOLDSBORO, N.C. - Erin Michelle Esteppe, 18, died Sunday (Feb. 17, 2002).
She was born on Sept. 8, 1983, and was the daughter of Jeff and Claresa Flannagan Esteppe. She was a graduate of Rosewood High School and attended Wayne Community College. Erin was employed with Southco Distributing.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her brother, Joel Esteppe; her maternal grandparents, Madonna Ballinger of Marion, Ind., and Joe Flannagan of Kingsport; her paternal grandparents, Mildred and Waival Esteppe of Blackwater, Va.
Calling hours are from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at Red Hill Memorial Church in the Pattonsville community.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the church with Evangelist Garry Hood officiating.
Music will be provided by The Hood Family.
Burial will be at Robbins Cemetery.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Colonial Funeral Home of Weber City, Va., is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret Greene, 73, Weber City, Va.
WEBER CITY, Va. - Graveside services for Margaret Arnold Greene, 73, who entered into rest Monday (Feb. 18, 2002), will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Holston View Cemetery.
The family will be meeting at the funeral home at 1:15 p.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Lester Arnold, Johnny Crawford, Gene Hensley, Willie Kilgore, Doyle Rasnick and Mike Spivey.
Gate City Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lillie Mae Greer, 95, Surgoinsville.
SURGOINSVILLE - Services for Lillie Mae Greer, 95, of 2651 Stanley Valley Rd., who went to be with the Lord at 11 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 19, 2002), will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the chapel of Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville, with the Rev. Harold Head and the Rev. Tom Lawson officiating.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home or anytime at the home of Ruth Carter and Minnie Horne, Stanley Valley Rd.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Bethel Cemetery.

Edna Hobbs, 87, Castlewood, Va.
CASTLEWOOD, Va. - Edna "Granny Ma'' Hobbs, 87, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday (Feb. 19, 2002) at Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Russell County, Va., and was the daughter of the late Aaron and Mary Deskins Maxfield.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Early O. Hobbs; and an infant son, Ralph Gerald Hobbs.
Surviving are two sons, Rev. Doyle Hobbs of Castlewood, Va., and Jimmy Hobbs and wife Cathy of Castlewood, Va.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one step-grandson; two sisters, Ina Willis of Castlewood, Va., and Dallas Robinson of Conover, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Castlewood Funeral Home, Castlewood, Va.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bobby Hobbs and the Rev. Elwood Hall officiating.
Interment will be in the Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, Va.
Pallbearers will be Lynn Jackson, Eric Holbrook, Claude Maxfield, Chris Musick, Eddie Dotson and Eugene Maxfield.

Walter E. Hudson Jr., 76, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Walter Emmett "Peanut" Hudson Jr., 76, died of complications following a fall and a stroke on Wednesday (Feb. 20, 2002) in the Johnson City Medical Center.
Peanut was born December 24, 1925 in Kingsport, a son of the late Walter Emmett and Josephine Quillin Hudson. He retired as a shoe repairman and worked for the Weavers Shoe Shop.
He was a member of the Vermont United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Clinton Hudson.
Surviving are a niece, Kathy Hudson of Kingsport; nephew, William C. Hudson Jr. and wife Linda of Knoxville; sister-in-law, Madge F. Hudson of Kingsport; several cousins; special friends, Newland Leslie, Jack Parker and Kellas Tate.
Calling hours will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Friday at the East Lawn Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Homer Roller officiating.
Burial and graveside service will follow in the garden of the Good Shepherd of the East Lawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Jack Parker, Robert Breeding, Larry Dexter, Claude Breeding, Tommy Breeding and Ken Breeding.
The family requests those desiring may make memorial contributions to the National Stroke Association, 9707 E. Easter Lane, Englewood, Colo. 80112. Please list who the gift is in memory of and the family member to be notified.

Althea F. Jordan, Kingsport.
Memorial services for Althea Frances Jordan, a resident of Asbury Center at Baysmont, Kingsport, who departed this life Monday (Feb. 18, 2002), will be held at Baysmont at 1:30 p.m. today with the Rev. Mark Fleenor and the Rev. Jack Edwards officiating.
The family will also receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at East Lawn Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be conducted at East Lawn Memorial Park at 10 a.m. Friday.

Eulice McFall, Big Stone Gap, Va.
BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Eulice McFall passed away Wednesday (Feb. 20, 2002) at Holston Valley Medical Center.
Arrangements are incomplete.

Ruth Miller, 86, Johnson City.
JOHNSON CITY - Mrs. Ruth Frye Wagner Miller, 86, City View Apartments, 810 Briarcliff Road, passed from this life into the next life on Monday (Feb. 18, 2002) at Johnson City Medical Center after a brief illness.
Mrs. Miller was a native of Bristol, Va., and resided there for many years and in Charlottesville, Va., before moving to Johnson City several years ago. She retired from motel management.
She was the last surviving member of the Rev. George Samuel and Edna Victoria (Jordan) Wagner family. She was a Methodist.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John H. "Jack" Miller Jr. in 1996; her first husband, Samuel Russell Drewry; one sister, Virginia Alexander; and three brothers, E. Fredrick Wagner, George S. Wagner Jr. and David S. "Red" Wagner.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Judie V. and Terry L. Millhorn, Gray; stepson, John H. "Jerry" Miller III and his wife Carolyn; a granddaughter, Amy E. Leonard and her husband Darrin, Kingsport; a grandson, Tech. Sgt. Brian L. Millhorn and his wife Melissa Gallagher Millhorn, Seymour-Johnson AFB, Goldsboro, N.C.; two great-grandchildren, Jessica E. Millhorn and Cameron A. Leonard; several nieces and nephews and extended family members.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Snyder's Funeral Home, Gray, and daily at the home of her daughter, Judie V. Millhorn.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home at 8 p.m. today with Evangelist Charles "Toonie" Cash officiating.
Graveside committal services will take place at Emory & Henry Cemetery, Emory, Va., at 2 p.m. Friday. The Rev. James L. Bennington, Pastor of Emory United Methodist Church and Chaplain of Emory & Henry College, will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Fred Alexander (nephew), Terry L. Millhorn, Brian L. Millhorn, Darrin Leonard, "Jerry" Miller and Ronnie Millhorn.

Georgia Mae Neal, Rose Hill, Va.
ROSE HILL, Va. - Georgia Mae Neal, of Tazewell, Tenn., died Wednesday (Feb. 20, 2002) after a battle with lung cancer.
She was born on Sept. 13, 1926 in Hancock County. She was the loving wife and lifelong companion of her late husband, Elbert Sterling Neal.
She was a homemaker and farm wife and devoted her entire life to her late husband, her children and her family. She was a good mother, a good neighbor and a special friend to many. She will be greatly missed by her family, the community and her friends.
She was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Van Huss Grove Baptist Church of Rose Hill, Va.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lillie McCurry Wolfe and Nathan Wolfe; two sisters, Lila Thomas and Minnie Mable Wolfe (infant); and three brothers, Francis "Frannie'' Wolfe, Paul Wolfe and Lawrence "White'' Wolfe.
Surviving are five children, Gary "Noodler'' Neal and Sandy Givens, both of Rose Hill, Va., Bruce Neal and Roger Neal, both of Tazewell, Tenn., and Patsy Neal of Suffolk, Va.; two grandchildren, Andy Neal and Jake Neal of Chapel Hill, N.C.; one brother, Joe Wolfe of Frankfort, Ind.; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews of whom she was especially fond also survive her.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Arney-Mullins Funeral Home in Rose Hill, Va.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel.
Interment will be in the Neal-Welch Cemetery in Hancock County, Tenn.

Mary Phillips, 87, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Mary Glenn Phillips, 87, formerly of Chattanooga, Tenn., passed away Wednesday (Feb. 20, 2002) at Asbury Center at Baysmont.
Surviving are two sons, Dr. James "Pete" Phillips, Kingsport and William Phillips, Bangor, Maine; three grandchildren, Wendy Smith, Kingsport, James "Ben" Phillips, Huntsville, Ala., and Anne Phillips, Kingsport; three great-grandchildren, Emily Smith, Rachel Smith and Katherine Phillips.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes.

Ethel A. Sandidge, 95, Surgoinsville.
SURGOINSVILLE - Graveside services for Ethel A. Sandidge, 95, of 153 Sandidge Hollow Road, who went to be with the Lord Monday (Feb. 18, 2002), will be held at 10 a.m. today in the Methodist Church Cemetery in Surgoinsville.
Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville, is in charge of arrangements.

Martha Slyman, 61, Roswell, Ga.
ROSWELL, Ga. - Mrs. Martha Logan Henderson Slyman, 61, died Saturday (Feb. 16, 2002).
She was born in 1940 in Spartanburg, S.C., and was the youngest daughter of John Daniel Henderson and Martha Myers Logan Henderson. Martha was a schoolteacher and a minister's wife.
She loved life and never took a moment of it for granted. She was devoted to her family and friends and served the Lord with gladness all of her days.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Richard Mark Slyman Jr. of Bristol, Tenn.
Surviving are her two children, Beth Thornton and Mark Slyman, both of Atlanta, Ga.; her mother, Martha Myers Logan Henderson, Summerville, S.C.; her two sisters, Elizabeth Henderson Davis, San Anselmo, Calif., and Ora Dell Henderson Murray, Edisto Island, S.C.; her brother, John Daniel Henderson Jr., Charlotte, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews and other relatives who loved her dearly.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Windsor Avenue Presbyterian Church in Bristol, Tenn.
Burial will immediately follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Erwin, Tenn.
In lieu of flowers, send donations in her memory to the Presbyterian Church (USA) Foundation at 200 E. Twelfth St., Jefferson, Ind. 47130.
Roswell Funeral Home, Roswell, Ga., is in charge of the arrangements.

Elizabeth Tate, 83, Hiltons, Va.
Graveside services for Elizabeth I. Tate, 83, of Route 1, Hiltons, Va., who departed this life Monday (Feb. 18, 2002), will be at 1 p.m. today in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Hiltons, Va.
Pallbearers will be Randy Marcum, Jimmy Woods, Terry Olinger, Lew Kelly, Pat Henry, Jim Bowlin and Joey Salyer.

Donald Ward, 69, Lakeland, Fla.
LAKELAND, Fla. - Donald J. Ward, 69, died Tuesday (Feb. 19, 2002) at his residence.
Born Aug. 19, 1932 in Mount Carmel, Tenn., he moved from Kingsport to Lakeland, Fla., where he had resided for 40 years.
He was manager of Retail Furniture Store and self-employed in the retail furniture business. He was director of purchasing for the Polk County School Board and Hillsborough Community College and was purchasing director and retail manager for Badcock Corp.
He received a bachelor of science degree from East Tennessee State University. He served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Ward was a member of First United Methodist Church in Lakeland, Fla.
Surviving are his wife, Edith S. Ward, Lakeland, Fla.; daughter, Susan Valerie Moore, Tampa, Fla.; a son, Steven Andrew Ward, Lakeland, Fla.; three grandchildren, Kyle Joseph Cobia, Miami, Fla., Holly Lorraine Ward and Clayton Andrew Ward, both of Lakeland, Fla.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Heath Funeral Chapel, Lakeland, Fla.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, 72 Lake Morton Drive, Lakeland, Fla.

GATE CITY, Va. - Graveside services for Robin Lynn Miller Watts, 49, of West Jackson Street, who departed this life Monday (Feb. 18, 2002), will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Watts Cemetery, Clinchport, Va., with the Rev. Kenneth Neeley officiating.
Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. to go to the cemetery.
Burial will follow in the Watts Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Elizabeth A. Williams, 81, Kingsport.
Graveside services for Elizabeth A. Williams, 81, of 2341 Cranshaw Drive, Kingsport, who died Monday (Feb. 18, 2002), will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in East Lawn Memorial Park, Garden of David.
Pallbearers will be Travis Taylor, Brad Darnell, Roy Tipton, Denver Blair, Samuel Spears, Stanley Sherfey and Lee Williams.
Honorary pallbearer will be Chester Crawford.
