George L. Benton, 76, Rochelle, Ill.
ROCHELLE, Ill. - George L. Benton, 76, died at 7 p.m. Saturday (May 19, 2001) at the Swedish American Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Scott County, Va., he retired from Sears.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Zack and Rose Rhoton Benton; two brothers; three sisters; and one daughter, Charlet Benton Hudson.
Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, George E. and Janet Benton, Abingdon, Va., and Ricky and Teresa Benton, Kingsport; one daughter and son-in-law, Katie and David Dean, Gate City, Va.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Calling hours are from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Kaylor's Chapel Church.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at the church with Brother Kenneth Neeley officiating.
Music will be provided by the Kaylor's Chapel Choir.
Perry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Edith Churchwell, 74, Kingsport
Services for Edith Milhorn Churchwell, 74, of Kingsport, who went to be with the Lord Tuesday (May 29, 2001), will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown, with the Rev. Charles Kilbourne and Pastor James T. Adcox officiating.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Moses Rodgers, Jeremiah Churchwell, Don Carr, Ray Cox, Buddy Foster, Leonard Boyd and Darroll Churchwell.
Honorary pallbearers will be Brandon Cloud and Matthew Mohlar.
Memorials may be given to the Clouds Bend United Methodist Church, 940 Bradbury, Kingsport, Tenn. 37660.

Marie Collins, 77, Kingsport
Services for Marie Boatright Collins, 77, of Kingsport, who went to be with the Lord Wednesday (May 30, 2001), will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of Gate City Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jim Little officiating.
Stephany Steele will provide the music.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of her sister, Georgia B. O'Keefe, and also at the residence of Bill and Freida Wimbish, Kingsport.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, Va., with the Rev. Steve Collins officiating.
Grandsons, Freddie Collins, Patrick Collins, Terry Duncan, Charles Steele, Michael Steele and Kenny Kelley, will serve as pallbearers.
Bill Wimbish, Charles "Chuck'' Flanary, David Speaks, Ronnie Helton and Steve Robinson will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will be meeting at Temple Hill Memorial Park for the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wellmont Hospice, 280 Steeles Road, Bristol, Tenn. 37620.

Ellen Stafford Dale, 88, Phoenix, Ariz.
Graveside services for Ellen Stafford Dale, 88, of Phoenix Ariz., who went to be with the Lord on Saturday (May 26, 2001), will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. today in Oak Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Willie Lunsford officiating.
Calling hours will be from 10 to 11 a.m. today at East Lawn Funeral Home.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Willie Doan Deakins, 92, Blountville
BLOUNTVILLE - Willie Doan Deakins, 92, died Wednesday (May 30, 2001) at her home.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Sullivan County. She was a school teacher in the Sullivan County School System for over 40 years, was active as a 4-H leader and was an active member of the Gunnings Home Demonstration Club. She was also the director of the Vacation Bible school for over 30 years and had played the piano for many years.
Mrs. Deakins was a member of the Adams Chapel Church where she taught the young peoples class for many years. She was also a charter member of the Women's Society of Christian Services.
Mrs. Deakins was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Deakin; two brothers, Bruce Doan and Horace Doan; and one sister, Emma Sue Hickman.
Surviving are one sister-in-law, Louise Doan, Blountville; four nephews, David Doan, Roy Doan, Herbert Doan and Bill Hickman; one niece, Barbara Hickman; eight great-nieces and three great-nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Akard Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Adams Chapel Church with the Rev. Steven Gott officiating.
Burial will be in the Gunnings Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Dwight Hunnigan, W.O. Martin, Larry Blalock, James Griffin, J.C. Barnes, Charlie Fisher and John McNutt.

Charlie R. Enix, 88, Nickelsville
NICKELSVILLE, Va. - Charlie Roscoe Enix, 88, Route 2, departed this life Thursday (May 31, 2001) at his residence.
A native of Rogersville, he was a farmer and of the Primitive Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Nathan Enix; mother, Myrtle Porter Enix Vermillion; son-in-law, Charlie Marion Smith; half sisters, Cleo Vermillion McNutt and Eula Vermillion; half brothers, Harry Lee Vermillion Sr., Tommy Vermillion and Samuel Vermillion; and step father, S.S. Vermillion.
Surviving are his wife, Lois Jenelle Kilgore Enix, Nickelsville, Va.; daughter, Myrtle E. Smith, Nickelsville, Va.; son, C. Randell Enix, Gate City, Va.; grandchildren, Randy Smith and Kathy Smith; great-grandchildren, Kevin Davidson and Angie Davidson; great-great-grandson, Tyler Davidson; sisters, Nancy Ketron, Kingsport, Vernie Pearl (Queenie) Roberts, Morristown; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., and anytime at the residence.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Copper Creek Primitive Baptist Church (Addington Frame) with the Rev. G.W. White and Elder Eckel Head officiating.
Music will be by the Copper Creek Primitive Church Singers.
The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Saturday to lie in state until time of services.
Burial will be in Addington Frame Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, friends and neighbors.

John Gray, 94, Rogersville
ROGERSVILLE - John M. Gray Sr., 94, Elm Street, passed away Wednesday evening (May 30, 2001) at Church Hill Health Care after a period of declining health.
Mr. Gray was a retired businessman and farmer and a former board member of the Soil Conservation. He was a member of the Rogersville Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Chiles Gray; parents, Frank P. and Katie Price Gray; brothers, Frank P. Gray Jr. and Fred B. Gray; sisters, Pauline Wyant and Helen Ernst; and a grandson, John David Gray.
Surviving are his wife, Emily Russell Gray, Rogersville; two sons and daughters-in-law, John M. Gray Jr. and Rosalynn and Lawrence E. Gray and Lena, all of Rogersville; grandchildren, William R. Gray and wife, Joyce, Cookeville, Amy Curvin and husband, Ed, Nashville and Carol Miller and husband, Robert, California; and great-grandchildren, Claire and William Cole Gray.
Calling hours are from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Rogersville Presbyterian Church.
Services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the church with Dr. David Hale officiating.
Interment will follow in McKinney Cemetery.
Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Rogersville Presbyterian Church Scholarship Fund.
Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville, is in charge of the arrangements.

Lutie E. Harr, 90, Blountville
BLOUNTVILLE - Lutie E. Harr, 90, went to be with the Lord Thursday (May 31, 2001) at Indian Path Medical Center after a period a period of declining health.
Arrangements are incomplete. East Lawn is serving the Harr family.

James McCready, 39, Kingsport
Services for James Eddie McCready, 39, of Kingsport, who entered into rest Tuesday (May 29, 2001), will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the Gate City Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charles Roberts and the Rev. Chris Christianson officiating.
Music will be by the Mabe Quartet.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today in the Juanita S. Falin Chapel of the funeral home.
Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Kingsport. Military rites will be conducted by the 1030th Engineering Battalion Color Guard of the Virginia Army National Guard.
Pallbearers will be Kent, Brad and Kemp Qualls, Wes Wagner, Jim Long, Roger Hensley, Bob Winegar and Gary Moore.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kingsport Public Works employees, Bobby Rhoton, Tim Rhoton and Roy Lane.

Eugene C. Parker, Kingsport
Graveside services for Eugene C. (Gene) Parker, of Kingsport, who departed this life on Tuesday (May 29, 2001), will be held at 11 a.m. today at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home at 10:45 a.m. today to go in procession to the graveside services.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Salvation Army of Kingsport, 505 Dale St., Kingsport, Tenn., the Kingsport Animal Shelter, 621 W. Industry Drive, Kingsport, Tenn. 37660 or the charity of one's choice.
Honor guard will be provided by the Kingsport Police Department.

Claude Robinson Sr., 67, Kingsport
KINGSPORT - Claude E. "Mousey'' Robinson, Sr., 67, 2736 Carrollwood Heights, went to be with his Lord late Wednesday evening (May 30, 2001) at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Hawkins County, but lived most of his life in Sullivan County. He was a retired brick mason and was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Porter Robinson and Carnell Lawson Robinson; and one brother, Leon Robinson.
Surviving are his loving wife of 44 years, Betty Godsey Robinson, of the home; four daughters and sons-in-law, Ms. Lorene Langman, Ms. Deborah Riner and Mrs. Dale (Helen Teresa) Light and Mrs. Richard (Michelle) "Zet'' Kerney, all of Kingsport; two sons and daughters-in-law, Claude E. "Jay'' Robinson Jr. and wife, Diane and Porter Steve "Blue'' Robinson and wife, Tamra, all of Kingsport; seven grandchildren, Misty King, Ericka Robinson, Betsy Dye, Jason Light, Andy Light, Andrea Clark and Shane Kerney; two great-grandchilden, Cody Dye and Skylar King; sisters, Mrs. Arthur (Christine) Tomlinson, Mrs. Fred (Mabel) Ball, Mrs. James (Faye) Hutson, Mrs. John (Barbara Jean) Sluss, all of Kingsport, Mrs. Fred (Janice) Hite, Fall Branch, Mrs. Steve (Phyllis) McGhee, Greeneville, Mrs. Johnny (Linda Sue) Hicks, Kingsport and Mrs. Ronnie (Kathy) Fellers, Greeneville; two brothers, James Robinson, Jacksonville, Fla., and Mack Lewis Robinson, Kingsport; a special friend, Sam Bishop; and several loving nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Paul Nelson, the Rev. Will Wyatt officiating.
Music will be provided by the Crawford Singers.
Burial will be in the East Lawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Jason Light, Andy Light, Robbie Godson, Shane Kerney, Josh Godsey, Nickey Clark, Wayne Hite and Roger Dye.

Isaac Taylor, 89, Nickelsville
NICKELSVILLE, Va. - Services for Isaac "Ike" Taylor, 89, of Taylor Town, who entered into rest Tuesday (May 29, 2001), will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the Gate City Funeral Home with the Rev. Claude Lane officiating.
Burial will follow the service in the Taylor Cemetery, in the Taylor Town community of Nickelsville.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Rose White, 79, Jonesborough
JONESBOROUGH - Elizabeth Rose White, 79, (Oak Hill community), died at 10:30 a.m. Thursday (May 31, 2001).
Arrangements are incomplete. Fall Branch Chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes is serving the White family.

Audrey Williams, 80, Lebanon
LEBANON, Va. - Audrey Robinson Williams, 80, 548 Munsey Drive, died Thursday (May 31, 2001) at her home.
She was a member of Green Valley Baptist Church and retired from Jessee's Drug Store in Lebanon after 26 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her wonderful husband Swain Williams; her parents, William and Dona Jackson Robinson; and one brother, Jimmy Robinson.
Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Kenneth and Virginia Swain Ferguson and Buddy Sammye Kiser, all of Lebanon, Garland and Barbara Cummings, Bristol, Va.; two grandsons and their wives, Kenny and Jennifer Ferguson, Castlewood, Va., and Chris and Ingrid Kiser, Lebanon; one step-grandson and wife, Jon and Lisa Cummings, Clarksville, Tenn.; four granddaughters and husbands, Cherie F. and Bill Akers, Lebanon, Tanya K. and Mike Jussila, Mars Hill, N.C., Tamara K. and Brian Houchins, Lebanon and Bridget Cummings, Bristol, Va.; seven great-grandchildren, Samantha Jo Ferguson, Nathaniel Akers, Cohen Jussila, Rachel Jussila, Brianna Houchins, Brittany Cummings and Dylan Cummings; four sisters, Beulah Hubble, Bristol, Va., Mabel Thomas, Lebanon, Merlie Wallace, Moneta, Va. and Vergie McCloud, Mechanicsville, Va.; one brother, Newlin Robinson, Cedar Bluff, Va.; a very special friend, Jean Carr, Lebanon; she was loved and blessed by many other wonderful friends and family.
Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Green Valley Baptist Church.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Darrell Fletcher officiating.
Burial will be in the Russell Memorial Cemetery.
Nephews: Ronnie Hubble, George (Spunky) Thomas, Abie Williams, Randy Williams, Ronnie Williams, Denny Williams, Gary Williams and Eddie Williams will serve as pallbearers and all remaining nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Combs Funeral Service is serving the Williams family.

Olin B. Willis, 68, Abingdon
ABINGDON, Va. - Olin B. Willis, 68, died Wednesday (May 30, 2001) at his home.
He was native of Lee County and had lived in Wise County before moving to Abingdon 30 years ago. He was a member of Abingdon Baptist Church and the Harry Denton Sunday School Class.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving in Europe during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired inspector with the Department of Environmental Quality with 37 years of service. He enjoyed gardening.
He was the son of the late Rogan and Ella Willis.
Surviving are his wife, Leona Willis; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Ann Willis, Pulaski, Va.; daughter, Penny Willis, Richmond; three brothers, Joe Willis, Kingsport, Paul Willis, Peoria, Ill., and Rogan Willis Jr., Dryden, Va.; two sisters, Margie Russell, Kingsport and Bobbie Williams, Dayton, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the Farris Funeral Chapel, Abingdon, Va., with Dr. Steve Pollard officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service or at their home at anytime.
A committal service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 126 W. Valley St., Abingdon or to Abingdon Baptist Church, 361 W. Main St., Abingdon.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Harry Denton Sunday School Class: George Mitchell, Johnny Bare and Wayne Hayter.
