KINGSPORT - Allie H. Bowser, 87, of 477 Beulah Church Drive, died Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 18, 2000) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later.
Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown, is serving the Bowser family.

Bonnie Bray
WEBER CITY, Va. - Bonnie Freeman Bray, formerly of 133 Hilton Hwy. (Moccasin Gap), went to be with the Lord on Tuesday (Oct. 17, 2000) at the Brian Center in Weber City.
Bonnie was a homemaker and lived her entire life in Scott County, Va. She had been a resident of Brian Center since June 1990. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Weber City.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Bray; her parents, Jeff and Laura Freeman; two brothers, Kyle and Charles Freeman; a sister, Mabel Duncan; and nephews, Jimmy and Johnny Bellamy, Larry Duncan, and Charles Duncan.
Surviving are two sisters, Lucille Bellamy, Kingsport, and Marie Duncan, Weber City; a niece, Diana Duncan Ellis; and two nephews, Billy Bellamy and Jerry Freeman.
Calling hours will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dean Smith and the Rev. Paul Blessing officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Holston View Cemetery.
Family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be deacons from the First Baptist Church of Weber City.

Jessie (Junior) Carroll
KINGSPORT - Jessie Carroll Jr., 77, of 818 Oaks St., Apt. 142, passed away Monday (Oct. 16, 2000) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born in Wise County, Va., he was a resident of Kingsport for most of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Jackson Carroll and Rhenda Ferrell Carroll; one brother, Jack Carroll; and two sisters, Peggy Carroll King and Florence Huff.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Roger (Linda Sue Carroll) Knipp, Mansfield, Oh., Brenda Joyce Carroll Housley, Sanford, Fla., Barbara Ann (Bobbie) Carroll Ford, Palmetto, Fla., Deborah Jane Carroll Mooneyham, Palmetto, Fla.; one son, Freddie Andrew Carroll, Holland; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. William (Betty) Danna and Mrs. Herman (Inez) Sharrett, both of Kingsport.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with Pastor James Hagy of Evangel Family Worship Center officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 12 noon Friday at Mountain Home National Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Lee Sproles, Jeff Danna, Jessie Swanner, James Short, Amos Hensley, and Lowell Feagins.

Claude C. Carter
BLOUNTVILLE - Claude C. Carter, 75, of Muddy Creek Road, died Tuesday morning (Oct. 17, 2000) at Indian Path Medical Center.
Born in Hawkins County (Little War Valley), he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II.
Mr. Carter was retired from Iron Workers Union Local 395 from Hammond, Ind.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Combs Carter; parents, Ellie Carter and Cora Lane Carter; three sisters, Estle Milhorn, Lola Hutchins, and Bonnie L. Carter; and one brother, James Garnett Carter.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Ann Carter Ashworth and husband Paul Ashworth Jr., Gray; two brothers, Paul H. Carter, Michigan City, Ind., and Robert L. Carter, Blountville; two nieces and five nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport, and anytime at the home of the brother, Robert Carter, 923 Muddy Creek Road.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Donald Blair officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at East Lawn Memorial Park.

Raymond Greene
SNEEDVILLE - Raymond C. Greene, 80, passed away Wednesday (Oct. 18, 2000) at the U.T. Hospital in Knoxville.
He was a member of Trent Valley Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by parents, N.L. and Cora Trent Greene; brothers, Ernest, Otis and Eugene Greene; sisters, Mindy Greene and Virginia Jones; and stepmother, Lona Keaton.
Surviving are his wife, Betty C. Greene, Sneedville; sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Gail Greene, Rogersville, Clark and Kelly Greene, Oklahoma; daughters and sons-in-law, Miss Joan Greene, Sneedville, Betty Kay and J.D. Fugate, Sneedville and Reva and Jerry Wolfe, Treadway; sister, Mrs. Roy (Pauline) Brewer, Lafollette, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren, Jerry, Daphne, Joseph, Jason, Justin, Melissa, Javin, Kayla, Carrie, Jessie, Jaya and Emily; great-grandchild, Savanna; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Trent Valley Baptist Church.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Kester Bunch and the Rev. James Trent officiating.
Interment will be in the Trent Cemetery.
McNeil Funeral Home, Sneedville, is in charge of the arrangements.

Jimmy J. Hall
BEN HUR, Va. - Jimmy J. Hall, 67, died Tuesday (Oct. 17, 2000) at his home.
Born in St. Charles, Va., he had been a resident of Cincinnati for 40 years and Ben Hur for the past five years.
He retired from Cognis Chemical Plant in St. Benard, Ohio and was a substitute teacher for the St. Charles Elementary School. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 483 in Cincinnati, Ohio and a member of the St. Charles Volunteer Fire Department. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Mr. Hall was a member of the Beacon Light Baptist Church in Monarch, Va.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Odas and Nellie Griffin Hall; and one sister, Orpha Jones.
Surviving are his wife, Naomi Holman Hall, of the home; one son, Dan Hall and wife Sue, Cincinnati, Ohio; one daughter, Patti Berry and husband Jamie, Ben Hur, Va.; two grandchildren, Daniel Berry, Ben Hur, Va., and Katie Hall, Cincinnati, Ohio; one brother, Gillis Hall, Blountville; five sisters, Evelyn Lutz, Ventura, Calif., Audrey Stapleton, Panama City Beach, Fla., Peggy Harber and Jo Ann Hall, both of Kingsport and Anita Reasor, Panama City Beach, Fla.
Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Province Funeral Home, Pennington Gap, Va.
Graveside services will be conducted at 12 noon Friday at Lee Memorial Gardens.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. to proceed to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be the St. Charles Volunteer Fire & Rescue.

Virginia Harrison
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Virginia Harrison, 83, beloved wife of the late Ralph Harrison, died Monday (Oct. 16, 2000).
A native of Scott County, Va., she had been a resident of Hampton for many years.
Virginia spent many years caring for children out of her home in Hampton and breeding and selling Tea Cup and Toy Poodles.
She was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Anderson.
Surviving are three daughters, Julia Anderson, Las Vegas, Nev., Joyce Moore, Newport News and Janet Jones and her husband Bob, Victoria; two sons, James Anderson, Lexington Park, Md., and Jerry Owens and his wife Linda, Newport News; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Mae Etta Bowman, Weber City, Va.; three brothers, L.C. Wheatley and Stewart Wheatley, both of Kingsport and Henry Wheatley, Weber City, Va.
Graveside services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. today at Parklawn Memorial Park.
Peninsula Funeral Home, Newport News, Va., is in charge of arrangements.

Sillar Hartsock
DUNGANNON, Va. - Sillar Osborne Hartsock, 88, entered into rest on Tuesday (Oct. 17, 2000).
She was formerly of Nickelsville, Va. and had made her home with her niece, Lucinda Dingus, Dungannon, Va., for the past five years. She was a homemaker and also of the Baptist faith.
She was born Nov. 27, 1911 in Scott County, Va.
She was the daughter of the late Daniel and Rhoda Riner Osborne.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Huse (Huston) Hartsock; four sisters and five brothers.
Surviving are her sister, Onie Greear, Dungannon, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Lucinda Dingus, Dungannon, Va.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Joe Roberts and the Rev. Bernard Lewis officiating.
Music will be provided by the Lee Smith Singers.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Grassey Creek Cemetery, Grassy Creek community.
The family will be meeting at 11:45 a.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Ballard Meade, Everette Cox and W.H. Nuckels.

Thelma Hill
Graveside services for Martha Thelma Hill, 80, of Route 4, Clinchport, Va., who entered into rest on Monday (Oct. 16, 2000) will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Allen Cemetery in Rye Cove.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will meet at Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, at 9:30 a.m. today to go in procession to the cemetery.

Lyle D. Hobbs
Graveside services for Lyle D. Hobbs, 82, 2212 Montrose Avenue, Kingsport, who died Sunday evening (Oct. 15, 2000) will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Broad Street United Methodist Church, 100 E. Church Circle, P.O. Box 1346, Kingsport, Tenn. 37662.

Sharon Holcomb
NORTON, Va. - Sharon Fields Holcomb, 52, passed away Tuesday (Oct. 17, 2000) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Born in Harlan County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late George B. and Eliza Fields.
She had been a resident of Wise County since 1993.
She was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by one son, John Joseph Pilkenton.
Surviving are her husband of 20 years, Franklin M. Holcomb, Norton; three daughters, Angela Lynn Collins, Norton, and Christina Robin Mays and Tammara Necole Pilkenton, both of Bristol, Va.; one son, Franklin M. Holcomb, of the home; one granddaughter, Chasity Necole Tolle; two step-grandsons, Adam and Josh Mays; two sisters, Claudette Gray and husband Jerry, Bluff City, and Georgia Willis and husband Robert, Virginia Beach, Va.; two brothers, Kenneth Corder and wife Mary, Lake Orion, Mich., and Gary Fields and wife Sharon, Tipton, Mich.; father and mother-in-law, Henry and Dorothy Holcomb, Jonesborough; and several nieces, nephews, uncles and aunts.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Sturgill Funeral Home, Pennington Gap, Va.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Hoye Tompkins officiating.
Burial will follow in the Powell Valley Cemetery, Dryden, Va.

Gretchen N. Jenkins
WILTON, N.Y. - Gretchen N. Jenkins, 21, of 21B Adirondack Circle, died Tuesday (Oct. 17, 2000) as the result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
She was born Nov. 23, 1978 in Durham, N.C., a daughter of Phillip C. and Diane Flanary Jenkins, Naperville, Ill.
She was a graduate of Saratoga Springs High School, Saratoga Springs, N.Y.. She attended the College of Dupage, Naperville, Ill. and Adirondack Community College, Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
In addition to her parents, she is also survived by a brother, Levi Jenkins, Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; a sister, Chloe Jenkins, Naperville, Ill.; maternal grandmother, Clara Flanary, Gate City, Va.; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Calling hours are from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at East Lawn Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Eckel Herron officiating.
Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park.

Martha E. Kilgore
WEBER CITY, Va. - Martha Ellen Kilgore, 87, of Dogwood Dr., departed this life early Wednesday morning (Oct. 18, 2000) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
A homemaker, she was a native of Russell County.
Mrs. Kilgore was a member of Nickelsville United Methodist Church and attended Holston View United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lindsay W. Kilgore; parents, Charles and Nannie Ida Warner Dixon; three sisters; and eight brothers.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Talbert (Anita) Kinard, Gate City, Va.; son and daughter-in-law, Billy Darrell and Janie Kilgore, Weber City; grandchildren, Tammy Herron, Diana Maness, and LaCosta Maness, all of Gate City, and Michelle McMillion, Kingsport; and great-grandchildren, Tyler and Tanner Herron, and Kelsey McClellan.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City, and anytime at the residence of the son or daughter.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Rick Howard officiating.
Burial will follow in Holston View Cemetery.

Claude W. Lane
GATE CITY, Va. - Claude William Lane, 78, of Beech Street, departed this life Tuesday morning (Oct. 17, 2000) at Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center.
Mr. Lane was a native of Scott County, Va., and was owner of L&S Motors in Gate City.
He was a veteran of World War II and a member of Kingsport V.F.W. No. 3382.
Mr. Lane was a Christian.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth M. and Pearl Quillen Lane; and a brother, Herman Lane.
Surviving are a sister, Gertrude Lane Gillenwater, Gate City; one niece, Debra Gillenwater, Gate City.
Graveside services and burial be at 11 a.m. today in Holston View Cemetery with the Rev. Claude Lane officiating.
Family and friends will meet at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. today to go in procession to the cemetery.
Friends will serve as pallbearers.

Calvin G. Masters
KINGSPORT - Calvin Grant Masters, 73, of 312 Packing House Rd., went home to be with the Lord Wednesday morning(Oct. 18, 2000) at Welllmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a long illness.
A native of Washington County, Mr. Masters retired from Arcadia Graphics after 42 years of service.
He was a member of Bloomingdale Baptist Church.
He was also a member of the Bloomingdale Ruritan.
During World War II, he served in the Pacific Theater as a U.S. Navy sea bee.
Mr. Masters was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Flossie Kyker Masters; and two sisters, Eva Masters, and Virginia Archer.
Surviving are his loving wife of 54 years, Virginia Masters; two sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Delilah Masters, Nashville, and Glen and Theresa Masters, Atlanta, Ga.; three grandchildren, Angelia Gammon, Nashville, and Julie and Katie Masters, Atlanta, Ga.; three great-grandchildren, Kolt, A.J., and Kerry Gammon, all of Nashville; three sisters, Alvis Bailey, Erwin, Elsie Richardson, Accomac, Va., and Edna Nett, Dixon, Ill.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with pastor Joe. W. Byrd officiating.
Military graveside services will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery with military graveside rites provided by American Legion Hammond Post No. 3.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Bloomingdale Baptist Church.

KINGSPORT - Graveside services for Luther H. Rhea, 70, who died Tuesday morning (Oct. 17, 2000) will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in East Lawn Memorial Park. Military graveside rites will be provided by the Charles DeWitt Byrd Post No. 3382 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown, is in charge of arrangements.
Reva M. Schoeff
KINGSPORT - Reva M. Schoeff, 83, of 1824 Granby Rd., died Tuesday (Oct. 17, 2000) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mrs. Schoeff was a native of Lyons, Va. but had spent the last 28 years in the Bristol and surrounding area. She was a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary.
She attended New Life Ministry Community Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Debra K. Bailey, Kingsport, Patricia G. Kennedy, Abingdon, Va., and Lillian J. Kennedy, Bristol, Va.; four sons, James A. Schoeff, Kingsport, Larry H. Stanley, Pensacola, Fla., C.C. Stanley, Sunbury, Oh., and Ronald Stanley, Clinchco, Va.; one sister, Nora Kennedy, Virginia Beach; 19 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Akard Funeral Home, Bristol.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Roy Henard officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in the Mountain Home National Cemetery, Johnson City, Tenn.
Honorary pallbearers will be Glenn Perry, Roger McConnell, Robert Bowman, and Tim Bailey.
