Services for Ballard Frank Allen, 69, of Duffield, Va., who died Sunday (Nov. 12, 2000) will be conducted at 1 p.m. today in the chapel of Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., with the Rev. Kenneth Neeley officiating.
Music will be provided by Eddie and Pam Roberts.
Burial will be at the Willis Cemetery, Blackwater, Va.
Pallbearers will be Boyd Allen, Clifford Allen, Dennis Allen, B.J. Allen, Ray Allen and Elmer Bledsoe.

Dorothy I. Allen
KINGSPORT - Dorothy I. Allen, 80, of 706 Virgil Ave., went to be with the Lord Tuesday (Nov. 14, 2000) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mrs. Allen was a lifelong resident of Kingsport and a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
She was a member of Ketron Memorial United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Allen (1988); sister, Emily Milhorn; three brothers, W.R. (Bud) Milhorn, George Milhorn, and Lonnie Milhorn.
Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Rebecca and Ron Cowden, Kingsport, and Cecilia and Tim Holloway, Memphis; son and daughter-in-law, Gordon and Mary Allen, St. Petersburg, Fla.; sister, Hildred (Kate) Ledwell, Kingsport; brother, Hugh (Sam) Milhorn, Kingsport; grandchildren, David and Tracy Cowden, Kingsport, Caroline and Scott Goff, St. Petersburg, Fla., Geoff Allen, St. Petersburg, Fla., Matt Cowden, Kingsport, Derek Ward, Gate City, Va., Rachael and Brandon Holloway, Memphis; great-grandchildren, Meredith, Matthew, and soon-to-be, Zachary; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Harry W. Hight Jr. and Pastor James T. Adcox officiating.
Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Brenda Lou Barnette
KINGSPORT - Brenda Lou Barnette, 52, passed away Tuesday (Nov. 14, 2000) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Barnette was a lifelong resident of Hawkins and Sullivan counties.
She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her father, Henry Franklin Dennis.
Surviving are her husband, Melvin Jack Barnette, Kingsport; one son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence E. and Sandra Noe, Kingsport; three daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa G. and Barry Farmer, Lexington, Ky., Angela K. and Johnny Ledford, Casey County, Ky., and JoAnn and Charles Patterson, LaGrange, Ky.; eight grandchildren; mother and step-father, Georgia M. and Paul E. Isley, Kingsport.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Johnson Funeral Home, Church Hill, and anytime at the residence of her son, Lawrence E. Noe, 3176 Tiffany Court, Kingsport.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Johnny Gibson officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Morning Star Cemetery.

Henry Sherill Biggs
GRAY - Henry Sherill Biggs, 71, of 122 Skyland Drive, passed away Tuesday (Nov. 14, 2000) at his residence from an apparent heart attack.
He was a graduate of Steed College and a former employee of North Electric ITT.
Mr. Biggs was a member of Sinking Creek Masonic Lodge No. 575, Gray. He was a 20 year veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War.
He was also a member of the Gray Community Chest and American Legion of Johnson City.
Mr. Biggs was a member of Gray United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Estelle Biggs, of Gray; daughter, Sandy Gobble, Jonesborough; son, Kenneth Biggs, Kingsport; grandson, Chris Canter, Jonesborough; and great-granddaughter, Mary Canter, Jonesborough.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 7:45 p.m. Thursday at Gray Funeral Home.
A Masonic service will be conducted at 7:45 p.m. Thursday.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Clinton Andrews officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 12 p.m. Friday at the Veterans Affairs Cemetery with military rites provided by VFW Color Guard No. 3382.
Pallbearers will be friends.

Raymond Bishop
BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Raymond Bishop, 82, died Monday (Nov. 13, 2000) at Heritage Hall Healthcare in Big Stone Gap, Va.
He was born in Benham, Ky. and had resided most of his life in Big Stone Gap, Va. He was a bus driver for the former Tri-State Coach Co. and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Gene Bloxom, of Chincoteague, Va.; a son, Phillip C. Bishop, Big Stone Gap; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, William C. Bishop, Zolfo Springs, Fla., James and Lois Bishop, East Stone Gap, Va., and Ballard and Eunice Bishop, Big Stone Gap; one sister, Barbara Jean Sargent, Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Holding Funeral Home, Big Stone Gap, Va.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Glencoe Cemetery with the Rev. Roy Smith and the Rev. Chester Lamb officiating.
Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Bishop, Glenn Bishop, Adam Bishop, Roy Robertson, Lloyd E. Smith Jr., and Melvin Carroll.

DERBY, Va. - Mary Frances Christian, 74, died at her residence.
A lifelong resident of the area, she was a homemaker and mother. She was a member of Full Gospel Church of God in Jesus Name.
Surviving are her husband, Carl Christian, of the home; two sons, James Christian, Derby, Va., and Cecil Kelly, Invernss, Fla.; six daughters, Diana Wells, Derby, Va., Peggy Moore, Appalachia, Va., Barbara Thompson, Japer, Ala., Charlene Bostic, Roda, Va., Sandra Mullins, Appalachia, Va., and Pam Christian, Roda, Va.; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Bill Crawley, South Carolina; one sister, Lucille Coleman, North Carolina; several nieces and nephews.

Ossie Cooper
PENNINGTON GAP, Va. - Ossie Elizabeth Cooper, 91, died Monday (Nov. 13, 2000) at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Va.
Born in St. Charles, Va., she was a resident of Lee County, Va. her entire life. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Cooper was a member of the Free Pentecostal Church of God at Pucketts Creek.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Cooper; two daughters, Anna Mae Ball and Shirley Cooper; two sons, Eugene and Richard Cooper; one grandson, Mark Stapleton; and her parents, Carlo and Anna Witt Jones.
Surviving are three sons, Gary Cooper, Pennington Gap, Bob Cooper, Ashland, Ky., and Garvie Cooper, Everett, Wash.; three daughters, Audrey Stapleton, Dayton, Oh., Loretta Hess, Pennington Gap, and Jewell Siler, Noblesville, Ind.; 34 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Province Funeral Home, Pennington Gap, Va.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Free Pentecostal Church of God at Pucketts Creek with the Rev. Jim Ewing officiating.
Burial will follow at Powell Valley Cemetery in Dryden, Va.

Ralph Daugherty
Graveside services for Ralph Daugherty, 70, of Anco Drive, Kingsport, who died late Saturday night (Nov. 11, 2000) will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Charles Dewitt Byrd Post 3382 will be in charge of the graveside services.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:55 a.m. today.

Hereward Denton
BLOUNTVILLE - Hereward Trent Denton, 32, of Shipley Ferry Road, died unexpectedly Sunday Morning (Nov. 12, 2000) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
He was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County.
Mr. Denton was a 1987 graduate of Sullivan Central High School and attended Northeast State College. He also attended college in Savannah, Ga.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Germany and in Desert Storm.
Mr. Denton was employed by Sam's Club.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Marshall Trent; paternal grandparents, Herbert Denton Sr., and Mayme Campbell Denton.
Surviving are his mother, Judith Trent Denton; father, Herbert J. Denton, both of Blountville; one brother, Alaric Denton and wife Lori, Gray; two special aunts, Ms. Gloria Trent Cureton, Kingsport and Ms. Donna Sisk, Blountville; one special uncle, James A. Sisk, Bristol; maternal grandmother, Bertha Trent, Kingsport; and one niece, Kayla Denton, Gray.
Calling hours will be from 12 to 1 p.m. Thursday at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with eulogy by James Austin and Jeremy Sisk, and the Rev. Joe Byrd officiating.
Burial will follow at Moutain Home National Cemetery with American Legion Hammond Post No. 3 in charge of graveside services.

James Easterling Jr.
JOHNSON CITY - James H. 'Jay' Easterling Jr., 79, of 612 Hazel St., died Monday (Nov. 13, 2000) at the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Mountain Home.
Mr. Easterling was a native of Norton, Va. and had been a resident of Johnson City since 1957.
He was a son of the late James Henry Easterling Sr. and Sally Newman Easterling.
Mr. Easterling retired in 1984 as owner and operator or manager of several automobile paint and body shops in Johnson City and Kingsport.
He was a former volunteer fireman in Norton, Va.
Mr. Easterling was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the 6th Field Artillery in the South Pacific. He was a member of the VFW in Norton, Va. and an active member of the 6th Field Artillery Veterans Association.
Mr. Easterling attended Boones Creek Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Fred Easterling; and two infant brothers.
Surviving are his wife, Marie Easterling; two sons, Ken Easterling, Johnson City, and Sam Easterling, Louisville, Tenn.; two daughters, Pat Walker, Chattanooga, and Elizabeth Stewart, Johnson City; three sisters, Hester Adams, Lebanon, Va., Christine Easterling, Norton, Va., and Thelma Bruzdowski, Harrisburg, Penn.; one brother, Robert Easterling, Weber City, Va.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Appalachian Funeral Home, Johnson City.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday in the East chapel of the funeral home.
Graveside committal services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Monte Vista Burial Park, with full military honors being accorded by the Kingsport VFW Post 3382.
Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

Dora Deskins Elam
BRISTOL, Va. - Dora Deskins Elam, 91, entered into eternal rest on Sunday (Nov. 12, 2000) at Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol, Tenn. after an extended illness.
Ms. Elam was born in Shell Creek, Carter County, Tenn., the daughter of the late John and Tishie Lantham Winters. She was a former resident of Dante, Va. but had been a resident of NHC Bristol, Va. for the past five years.
She was a member of the Straight Hollow Freewill Baptist Church in Dante.
Ms. Elam was preceded in death by her first husband, Wallace Deskins, in 1966, and her second husband, A.B. Elam, in 1984.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Iris Deskins, Kingsport; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy and Russ Hufstedler, Bristol, Va., and Pearline and Chester Cook, Rockford, Ill.; four step-daughters, Tee Lane and Violet Kelly, both of Erwin, Tenn., Shirley Necessary, Bristol, Va., and Kay Harr, Bristol, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Lynn Deskins, Buford, Ga., Gayle Van Der Wiele, Brevard, N.C., Michael Stallard, Greenwich, Conn., and Tim Stallard, Austin, Tex.; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at Temple Hill Memorial Park with Pastor Winston Sweeney officiating.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and sons-in-law.
Castlewood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Carrie J. Fauver
LOVELAND, Colo. - Carrie J. Fauver, 92, died Friday (Nov. 10, 2000) at North Shore Manor Health Care in Loveland, Colo.
Born May 23, 1908 in Washington County, Va., she was the son of the late George C. and Ella Lee Felty Jones. She was raised and schooled in the Blountville area. She worked in a defense plant during World War II near Bristol.
She was also a waitress and had worked for King College in Bristol, Tenn., and later for Howard Johnson's in Abingdon, Va. She came to Cope, Colo., and then to Loveland, Colo. in 1955.
She was preceded in death by six brothers; one sister; and four grandchildren.
Surviving are three sons, Tom Fauver, Loveland, Colo., George Fauver and wife Thais, Lincoln, Neb., and John W. Fauver, Piney Flats; six grandchildren, Cindy Fauver Deisley, Loveland, Sharon Adkins and husband Jack, West Virginia, Shawn and Sonya Fauver, Lincoln, Neb., Debbie Johnson and husband Dwight, Blountville and Donna Fauver, Cookeville, Tenn.; seven great-grandchildren, Amanda and Justin Lasher, Loveland, Ben Quick, Lincoln, Neb., Darrell and Amber Fauver, Piney Flats, Jacob Tibbs, Kingsport and Tracy and Bobby Schaffer, Blountville; three great-great-grandchildren; one brother, George C. Jones and wife Margaret, Bristol, Va.; two sisters, Nancy Dykes and husband Dee, Bristol, Tenn., and Ruth Bates, Kingsport.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. today in the Kibbey Fishburn Funeral Home Chapel, 1102 Lincoln Ave., Loveland, Colo.

Richard Haynes Jr.
Services for Richard Haynes Jr., 42, of 1117 Cherry Street, Kingsport, who died Saturday (Nov. 11, 2000) will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in the chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown with Pastor Jerry Northan officiating.
Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Haynes, Donnie Haynes, Eddie Sexton, Daryl Hunley, James Henry, and Gene Weeks.

Willard Labowe Sr.
Willard Joseph Labowe Sr., 74, went to be with the Lord Sunday (Nov. 5, 2000) at Sunbridge Care & Rehabilitation-Hillside.
He was a mechanic and of the Catholic faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Elia (Gary) Labowe; and wife Louise Ciufolo Labowe.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Chip and Linda Labowe, Kingsport; grandsons, Max Sexton and Chris Labowe; brother and sister-in-law, Willie and Joyce Labowe, Irdell, Texas.
Memorial services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday at the North Kingsport Church of God with the Rev. Tom Burgner officiating.

Helen H. Lyle
JOHNSON CITY - Dorothy Helen Harshbarger Lyle, 74, formerly of the Austin Springs Community, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday (Nov. 14, 2000) at NHC Healthcare.
Mrs. Lyle was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County.
She was a daughter of the late Frank Ray and Erma Lucille Barron Harshbarger.
She was a member of Austin Springs United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Lyle was a devoted mother and friend to all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Marvin H. Lyle; and one sister.
Surviving are three sons, Marvin Heberd 'Mickie' Lyle, Jonesborough, Steve Lyle, Hampton, and Timothy T. Lyle, Johnson City; two daughters, Pam Simpson, Piney Flats, and Jean Barnes, Johnson City; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Morris-Baker Funeral Home, Johnson City.

Tiny Lee Mullins
BLOUNTVILLE - Services for Tiny Lee Mullins, 74, who died Sunday (Nov. 12, 2000) will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with the Rev. W.C. Amos and the Rev. Stanley Sims officiating.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home or other times at the home of his daughter, Helen Cross, 4272 Highway 126.
Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.

KINGSPORT - Barbara R. Rhea (Ray), 61, of 610 Watauga Street, passed away Tuesday (Nov. 14, 2000) at her residence.
She was a member of Greenvale Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Obie C. Ray and Viola L. Ray; and one brother, Obie C. Ray Jr.
Surviving are three sisters, Hazel Price, Church Hill, Nellie Smith, Kingsport, and Peggy Templeton and husband, Bud, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; one brother, Douglas 'Mack' Rhea and wife, Nancy, Surgoinsville; and several nieces and nephews.

KNOXVILLE - L. Jack Roberts, 77, formerly of Greeneville, died Monday (Nov. 13, 2000) at the University of Tennessee Hospital in Knoxville.
Calling hours are from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home, Greeneville.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel.
Interment will follow at Timber Ridge Cemetery in Greene County, Tenn.

Esther Shuffler
GATE CITY, Va. - Esther Hurt Shuffler, 96, of Route 3, passed away Monday evening (Nov.13, 2000) at the Brian Center in Weber City, Va.
She was born in North Carolina on Aug. 7, 1904 and was the daughter of the late Daniel and Mattie Hurt. She was a seamstress and homemaker.
Mrs. Shuffler was a member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Pink C. Shuffler; daughter, Ruth Mellons; sons, Avery Shuffler and R.C. Shuffler; two sets of infant twins; sisters, Alice Shuffler, Mattie Ledford, and Nan Gardner; and brothers, Charlie Hurt and Hiram Hurt.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Wrightly (Dorothy) Salling, Gate City; granddaughters, Nancy Puckett, Annette Hines, both of Kingsport, Darlene Christian, Jacksonville, Fla., and Gale Baker, Cal.; grandsons, Mike Shuffler, Gate City, Larry Shuffler, Rickey Shuffler, Junior Shuffler, all of Greeneville, Tenn.; six great-grandchildren; brother, Clyde Hurt, Johnson City; sister-in-law, Bonnie Hurt, Johnson City; and several nieces and nephews.

Hobert Taylor
CLINCHPORT, Va. - Hobert Taylor, 73, entered into rest Sunday (Nov. 12, 2000) at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Scott County, Va. on Sept. 25, 1927, and was the son of the late William Patton and Lelia Wade Taylor.
Mr. Taylor was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and a lifetime member of the VFW.
He attended Natural Tunnel Freewill Baptist Church.
He was retired from AFG Industries and was a security guard at Norris Industries, Big Stone Oil Company and was co-owner of Daniel Boone 76.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Mae Kaylor; and four brothers, the Rev. Claude Taylor, Carl 'Buster', Ottis and Earl Taylor.
Surviving are his wife of 52 and a half years, Dallas Roberts Taylor, Clinchport; two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Bobby Rhoton, Clinchport, Va., and Patsy and Kenneth Herron, Gate City, Va.; three sisters, Edith Bishop, Kingsport, Gladys Gaines and Mary Alice Quillen, both of Gate City, Va.; one brother, Kelly Taylor, Kingsport; grandchildren, Tim Rhoton and wife, Angie, Corey Rhoton and wife, Cathy, Kenita Herron and Kevin Herron; several nieces and nephews; and many caring friends.
Calling hours were from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Gate City Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Bro. Bobby Rhoton, Bro. Tim Rhoton, and Bro. Fred Gillenwater officiating.
Music will be provided by the Mabe Quartet.
Military graveside services will follow at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va., conducted by Charles DeWitt Byrd Post No. 3382 of the VFW.
Pallbearers will be Corey Rhoton, Larry Allen Robertson, Gilmer Bledsoe, Lonnie Statzer, Keith Bishop, the Rev. Lee Knowles, the Rev. Eckel Herron, and Bill DeBoard.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Herron, James Hensley, Pete Bowen, Radford Wallen, Roy Egan and Shelborn Barker.

Bessie P. Wells
KINGSPORT - Bessie P. Wells, 75, of 423 Sequoyah Drive, went to be with the Lord Tuesday (Nov. 14, 2000) at Holston Valley Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born in Sneedville, Tenn. and lived in Kingsport most of her life.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and was a former employee of Borden Mills Plant. She was also a homemaker and attended the Rock Springs United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Trent Odom; and a sister, Barbara Helton.
Surviving are her husband, James C. Wells, Kingsport; two daughters, Judy K. Davis, special family friend, Harold K. Davis, and Tammy and son-in-law, Chuck Helvey, Blountville; grandchildren, Michael and Kathy Davis, Brent and Phyllis Davis, Josh Helvey and Branson Helvey; great-grandson, Christopher Hixson, Rachel Davis and Victoria Davis; one sister, Ruby Bowlin, Whitesburg, Tenn.; one brother, Grant Odom, Flint, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Oak Hill Funeral Home and at the residence at anytime.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Scott A. Robertson-Gouge officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Vermont United Methodist Church, 1817 Bloomingdale Road, Kingsport, Tenn. 37660, or to the Memorial Fund at the Rock Springs United Methodist Church, 227 Church View Drive, Kingsport, Tenn. 37664.

KINGSPORT - Sterling David Yeary, 38, died Tuesday afternoon (Nov. 14, 2000) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
