ROGERSVILLE - Luna Faye Benton, 76, of 476 Grassy Creek Road, went to be with the Lord Monday (Dec. 4, 2000) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Benton was a native of Little Rock, Arkansas, but had spent most of her life in Hawkins County. She was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit Benton, in 1989; and son, K.B. Benton, in 1996.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Dan Dishner, Rogersville; two sons and daughter-in-law, J.B. and Rose Mary Benton, Church Hill, and James Benton, Church Hill; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two brothers, Onnie Matthews and Glenn Matthews, both of Port Clinton, Oh.; four sisters, Audrey Light, Fall Branch, Nellie Hughes, Rogersville, Virgie Simpson, Church Hill, and Dencil Mallory, Surgoinsville; and several nieces and nephews.

She was a native of Scott County, Va. and a homemaker.
She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lucian Davis and Rachael Amyx Davis; two brothers, Ronnie K. Davis and Billy Davis; and two sisters, Mildred Owens and Judy Carol Davis.

ROSE HILL, Va. - Joy Collins, 75, was born April 29, 1925, and went to be with the Lord Monday (Dec. 4, 2000) at University of Tennessee Memorial Hospital in Knoxville, Tenn.
She was born and raised in Rose Hill and lived 40 years in Dayton, Ohio, and retired to Rose Hill 13 years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of the Rose Dale Baptist Church of Rose Hill.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Ethel Lowe Ingle; one sister, Juanita Rowland; two brothers, Emery Engle and Lester Lowe.
Surviving are her husband, Paul Collins, Rose Hill; sons Robert and wife, Joanne, and Marvin and wife, Patti, both of Dayton, Oh.; daughters, Patricia and husband Jerry, Tazwell, Tenn., and Janice and husband Johnny, Mansfield, Ga.; five grandchildren, Timothy, Jeffrey, Jeremy, Mathew and Cynthia; step-grandchildren, Randy, Derinda, Heather, Brian, Samantha and Christopher; great-grandchild, Blaine; sisters, Irene Skidmore, Rose Hill, and Sharon Lowe, Tazwell.

GREENEVILLE - Lois Deatherage, 86, Plaza Towers, died Tuesday morning (Dec. 5, 2000) at Takoma Adventist Hospital.
She was a retired nurses aide at Life Care Center of Greeneville.
She was the daughter of the late John and Callie Wilcox and preceded in death by her husband, John Deatherage; four brothers, Willie Wilcox, Dexter Wilcox, Raymond Wilcox and Earl Wilcox; and one sister, Opal Ashby.
Surviving are a brother, Jack Wilcox, Atwater, Calif.; four sisteres, Ora Fields, Ethel Light, Onnie Tunnell, all of Kingsport, and Marie Jones, Rogersville; a very special friend, Carole Cobble, Greeneville; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no formal visitation. Family and friends are requested to meet at Kiser Funeral Home, Greeneville, at 9:45 a.m. today to go in procession to the cemetery.

Euda B. Gordon
KINGSPORT - Euda B. Gordon, 93, went peacefully to be with the Lord Tuesday (Dec. 5, 2000) at Hillside Manor Health Care Center after a period of declining health.
Euda was born in Ashland, Ala. on Sept. 8, 1907. She was a member of the Tri-Cities Baptist Church in Gray, Tenn.
T. Rosen employed Euda before her retirement.
Euda is survived by her family, a daughter and son-in-law, Duane Tillery and husband, Junior, of Alabama; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy Wayne Gordon and wife, Jane, of Missouri, and Pastor William (Bill) Gordon and wife, Doris, of Fall Branch; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Dorothy Moore, of Georgia; and a brother, James Mathews, of Alabama.
Euda will be transferred to the Johns-Ridout Funeral Home - Elmwood Chapel, in Birmingham, Ala. for a graveside service to be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Bessemer, Ala.
Euda's son, Pastor William (Bill) Gordon will officiate and burial will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery.

KINGSPORT - Dorothy 'Dot' Carson Hicks, of 1241 Eastbrook Drive, passed away at 12:15 p.m. Monday (Dec. 4, 2000) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a courageous battle against a lengthy illness.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. A member of the Colonial Heights Baptist Church for 43 years, she loved working with children and also taught a women's Sunday School class for many years. Mrs. Hicks helped start the mission organization for children in the Colonial Heights Baptist Church.
She formerly taught school in North Carolina for a number of years.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jesse Carson; mother, Irene Carson; son, Ronald Jesse Hicks; and sister, Eleanor Craven.
Surviving are her husband of 57 years, the Rev. Ronald D. Hicks, Kingsport; two daughters, Ellen Hicks Gray and husband, David Gray, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Annette Hicks Overbay and husband, David Overbay, of Kingsport; two sons, Ronald D. Hicks Jr. and wife, Joyce Overbey Hicks, of Louisville, Ky., and Forrest C. Hicks and wife, Rebecca Bragg Hicks, of Kingsport; eight much beloved grandchildren, Suzannah Hicks Stephens and her husband, Brian, of Raleigh, N.C., Ronald D. Hicks III and Meredith Hicks, both of Louisville, Ky., Heather and Jesse Overbay, of Kingsport, Jerica Hicks Smith and husband, Matthew, of Gray, and Jacob and Jordan Hicks, both of Kingsport; and one brother, Jesse Carson Jr., of Davidson, N.C.

KINGSPORT - Mae Roberts Johnson, 91, of 249 Lakeview Circle, died Sunday (Dec. 3, 2000) at her home after an extended illness.
She was a daughter of the late Thomas Roberts and Elizabeth Jarrett Roberts. She was born in North Carolina and had lived in the Kingsport area since the 1950's. Mrs. Johnson was a member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard W. Johnson; and a son, Tommy R. Johnson.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Peggy Johnson Duncan and Dr. Stacy A. Duncan Jr., of Dunn, N.C.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ed Roberts, Kingsport.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Colonial Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronald Hicks, the Rev. Roland Brown, and the Rev. Bob Melvin officiating.

KINGSPORT - Agnes Kiesau, 84, of 997 West Sullivan Street, died Monday (Dec. 4, 2000) at Indian Path Medical Center.
She was born in Goochland County, Va., and had resided in Kingsport since 1945. She was a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Nursing.
She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Kenneth Kiesau, in 1994; a son, Keith Kiesau, in 1982; her parents; two sisters; and three brothers.
Surviving are her son, Dr. Kyle Kiesau, Spartanburg, S.C.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Alvis, Richmond, Va.
Graveside services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. today at Oak Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Gary L.R. Bullard (senior minister at First Presbyterian Church) and Beth Yarborough (associate minister at First Presbyterian Church) officiating.
Memorial services will be conducted at 4 p.m. in the church sanctuary.

JOHNSON CITY - Gladys Leonard Laws, 89, of 103 Buffalo Valley Church Road, died Monday (Dec. 4, 2000) at her residence following a lengthy illness.
She was a native of Carter County and had lived most of her life there. She was the daughter of the late J. Fred and Lillie Cox Leonard.
She was a graduate of Happy Valley High School and attended St. Louis, Missouri Christian Hospital School of Nursing. She had survived breast cancer for 48 years.
Mrs. Laws had worked in the First Aid Dept. for Bemberg Co. and later as a Private Duty Nurse at Memorial Hospital in Johnson City.
She was a member and past president of the Watauga Valley Art League and was a charter member of Buffalo Valley Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Laws, in 1994; three sisters; and five brothers.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Brackett, Johnson City; two sons, Martin Laws, Limestone, and Philip Laws, Unicoi; one sister, Marie Leonard Lenden, Elizabethton; four grandchildren, Lisa Bennett, Pamela Holben, Karen Brackett, and Kenneth Brackett, all of Johnson City; three great-grandchildren, Chenoa Bennett, Rachael Bennett, and Henry Holben, all of Johnson City; and several nieces and nephews.

KINGSPORT - Ora Lee McKenzie, 104, of West Carters Valley Road, went to be with the Lord Tuesday (Dec. 5, 2000) unexpectedly.
She was born in Bluff City, Tenn. and lived in Kingsport most of her life.
She was the oldest member of Morrison Chapel United Methodist Church.
Mrs. McKenzie was preceded in death by her husband, James E. McKenzie; a son, J. Glenn McKenzie; two grandsons, Steve McKenzie and Ernest Johnson; and a step-son, J.A. 'Buck' McKenzie.
Surviving are two daughters, Mildred Vaughn and Juanita M. Johnson, both of Kingsport; a son, Ralph W. McKenzie, Kingsport; 18 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

DETROIT, Mich. - Mary A. McCracken, 83, formerly of Pennington Gap, Va., died Saturday (Dec. 2, 2000) in Detroit, Mich.
Born in Lee County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Henry Clint and Addie Fannon Moore.
She had been a resident of Detroit for the past seven years and was a member of the Admant Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Worley Claude McCracken.
Surviving are one son, Johnny McCracken, Dearborn Heights, Mich.; two daughters, Erma Lou Bangs, Detroit, Mich., and Helen Marie Sammons, Brooksville, Fla.; five grandchildren, Lisa, Mary, Ronald, Darlene and Michael; seven great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter; one brother, Denver Moore, Gainesville, Fla.; four sisters, Bell Moore and Dora Tunnell, both of Fall Branch, Inus Goins and Zella Horton, both of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.

Stidham, Gray; mother, Sybil Davis, Crossbrook, Va.; six brothers, Paul Davis Jr., Virginia Beach, Va., Frank Davis, Pennington Gap, Va., Jerry Davis, Van Cleve, Miss., Phillip Davis and Gerald Davis, both of Crossbrook, Va., and Mike Davis, Kingsport; four sisters, Pam Addison, Blountville, Eleanor Fultz, Bristol, Tenn., Eva May, Charleston, S.C., and Debbie Bishop, Big Stone Gap, Va.; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
At her request, her body has been donated, for medical research, to the Quillen College of Medicine.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of the Roy A. Green Funeral Home, Appalachia, Va., with the Rev. James Stidham officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, just prior to the service.
