NICKELSVILLE, Va. - Clarene Julia Addington, 92, of Route 1, departed this life Wednesday afternoon at Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport.
Survivors and arrangements will be announced later by Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City, Va.

Jessie Mae Browder
GRAY - Jessie Mae Rigsby Browder, 72, of 169 Browder Road, went home to be with her Lord Tuesday (Oct. 10, 2000) at 4:45 p.m. at her home after a long illness.
Born in Sullivan County, she had lived in the Gray area most of her life.
Mrs. Browder was a member of Grace Freewill Baptist Church, Johnson City, Tenn., a member of the Senior Saints Sunday School Class, and did floral landscaping for the church for the last four years.
She leaves behind a wonderful legacy through her devotion to her family and friends, and her testimony of her faith in God.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Myrtle Caldwell Rigsby; one sister, Amy Rigsby; and one brother, Johnny Melvin Rigsby.
Surviving are her loving husband of 49 years, 4 months, Major H. Browder, of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Emma and Dean Falin, Church Hill, and Nancy Proffitt, Gray; one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Doris Browder, Gray; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; eight sisters, Ruby Parsons, Kingsport, Louise Rigsby, Mrs. W.P. (Mamie) Arnold, Mrs. J.D. (Irene) Ford, all of Gray, Mrs. Sam (Mable) Garst, Blountville, Mrs. Lawrence (Kate) Baldwin, Mrs. Joel (Carrie) Coggins, both of Jonesborough, and Mrs. Fred (Beulah) Briggs, Unicoi; three brothers, Floyd Rigsby, Bill Rigsby, both of Kingsport, and Charles Roy Rigsby, Gray; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Grace Freewill Baptist Church.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today at the church with Pastor Curtis Hurt Jr. officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Tri-Cities Memory Gardens.
Grandsons, Edward Falin, Michael Falin, Joseph Falin, Wade Falin, Gary Dingus Jr., Jeremy Proffitt, Brian Laster, Richard Browder, Cody Browder, and Davy McGinnis will serve as pallbearers.
Memorial gifts may be made to Grace Freewill Baptist Church Building Fund, 210 Knob Creek Road, Johnson City, Tenn. 37604.
Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown, is serving the Browder family.

Polly Malone Comer
BLOUNTVILLE - Mary Elizabeth (Polly) Malone Comer, 97, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday (Oct. 11, 2000) at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health.
Polly was a native and lifelong resident of Blountville, born Oct. 18, 1903, a daughter of Lee and Louisie Smith Malone. She was the widow of John Comer, who passed away in 1972.
She was a member of the Blountville Christian Church since 1960 and attended the Feathers School.
Polly was a loving and caring person to her friends and family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Virginia (Jennie) Hicks, who passed away in 1990; and two infant sons.
Surviving are her daughter, Flora Lindamood, Blountville; five grandchildren and their wives, Donald and Mary Jean Hicks, Frances McClain, J.B. and Mary Lindamood, Bob and Jo Lindamood, Allen and Ruby Lindamood; 12 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; and four great-great-great-grandchildren; and her son-in-law, Dale Hicks, Blountville.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at East Lawn Funeral Home and anytime at the home of her daughter, Flora Lindamood.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with Leland Houser officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Tri-Cities Memory Gardens.
The family will meet at the cemetery.

Roy Coomer
OLINGER, Va. - Roy 'Boney' Coomer, 79, died Tuesday (Oct. 10, 2000) at Lonesome Pine Hospital.
A lifelong resident of Olinger, Mr. Coomer was employed by Southwest Quarry, Big Stone Gap.
He was a veteran, having served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Coomer was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Coomer; and a son, James Gary Coomer.
Surviving are sons, Wilton Eddie Coomer, Jerry Coomer and Larry Coomer, all of Olinger, Roy Coomer, Big Stone Gap, Va., and Tom Reynolds, Plano, Tex.; daughters, Rose Baker, Asheville, N.C., Norma Ellis, Indianapolis, Ind., and Debbie Bush, Duffield; sisters, Jean Waddell, Olinger, Myrtle Boggs, Dayton, Ohio, Anne Fields, Kingsport, and Mary Francis Hamilton, St. Petersburg, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the West Wing of Gilliam Funeral Home, Big Stone Gap, Va.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bruce Brewer, the Rev. Aaron Stapleton, and the Rev. Carlos Wolfe officiating.
Burial will follow in Powell Valley Memorial Gardens, Big Stone Gap, Va. Military graveside services will be accorded by Col. C.H. Hagy Chapter 45 D.A.V.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Ruth Hall Dotson
KINGSPORT - Ruth Hall Dotson, 82, 914 W. Sullivan St., died Monday (Oct. 9, 2000) at Wellmont Hospice House, Bristol, Tenn.
She was born in Church Hill and lived in Kingsport most of her life. She volunteered at Holston Valley Medical Center Women's Auxiliary for 32 years. She was an artist specializing in water colors.
Mrs. Dotson was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, where she served as Sunday school secretary for many years and sang in the church choir for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Amanda Hall; seven brothers; and six sisters.
Surviving are her husband of 65 years, John C. (Jay) Dotson, of the home; daughters and son-in-law, Shirley Ruth Dotson, Sondra Bridwell, Diana and Donnie Fleming, all of Kingsport; a son and daughter-in-law, John and SusanDotson, Carmel, Calif.; nine grandchildren, Cindy Abdoo, Luci Ailshie, Kristy Lane, George Bridwell, Polly Easterling, Jan Walker, Brendan Dotson, Adam Dotson and Caitlin Dotson; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 10 a.m. to 12 noon today at Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Services will be conducted at 12 noon today at the church with the Rev. Benny Keck officiating.
Entombment will be at Oak Hill Mausoleum.

FALL BRANCH - Brenda Kay Gocio, 35, of 1768 Hwy. 93, died Wednesday (Oct.11, 2000) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

Wilbur Hendricks
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The family of Wilbur C. Hendricks, who died Oct. 5, 2000, will visit with relatives and friends from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. today at St. Mark United Methodist Church, 921 Maple Street, Kingsport.

Nina Mayo
ROGERSVILLE - Nina Langford Mayo, 72, of 111 Clifton St., died Wednesday (Oct. 11, 2000) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a brief illness.
She was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County and a member of the First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Mayo was a long standing member of the Rogersville Business and Professional Women's Club and the Hawkins County Ladies Auxiliary, where she served as vice-president.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rush T. and Lola Mae Laster Langford.
Surviving are her husband, Gene Mayo; one daughter, Pam Mayo, both of the home; one sister, Mavis Livingston, Rogersville; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Broome Funeral Home, Rogersville.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Charles Hobbs officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Highland Cemetery.

Mary Ann Poole
WEBER CITY, Va. - Services for Mary Ann Alley Poole, 57, 127 Click St., who died Monday (Oct. 9, 2000) will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in the chapel of Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., with the Rev. Claude Lane and the Rev. Albert Poole officiating.
Music will be provided by Eddie Roberts and Kenneth Davis.
Burial will be at Holston View Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jim Byrd Sr., Jim Byrd Jr., Johnny Poole, Sam Poole, Russell Poole and Jim Poole.
Honorary pallbearers will be Albert Poole and Tommy Phillips.

Nancye Pope
NASHVILLE - Nancye Johnson Pope, 76, died Sunday (Oct. 8, 2000).
A loving mother and wife, she had been a resident of Kingsport for 45 years and was employed by the dental office of Drs. Johnson, Carver, et.al. as a dental and later, executive assistant. She was past president of the Tennessee Dental Assistants Association and executive secretary for the local district of the Tennessee Dental Association.
She was an active member of Mafair United Methodist Church, where she was past president of the Women's Society of Christian Service (1954) and the United Methodist Women (1983-1984). She served on numerous leadership committees and was a member of the women's guild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William H. and Eva H. Johnson, Springfield, Tenn.; and her brother, W. Pope Johnson, Kingsport.
Surviving are her husband, John C. Pope, Nashville; a son, Dr. John C. Pope IV, Nashville; grandson, John C. Pope V, Nashville; granddaughter, Margaret T. Pope, Nashville; and grandson, William J. Pope, Nashville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Mafair United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, the Belcourt Terrace Activity Fund, 1710 Belcourt Ave., Nashville, Tenn. 37212 or the American Diabetes Association.

Ethel Mae Poston
BLOUNTVILLE - Ethel Mae Poston, 91, went to be with the Lord Tuesday (Oct. 10, 2000) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mrs. Poston was a native of Washington County, Va., but had lived in the Blountville area for many years. She was a lovely mother and grandmother and will be missed by all.
She was a member of the Blountville United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Poston in 1987; one son, Earl Poston in 1994; her parents, Thomas and Hattie Colley; and three brothers.
Surviving are three daughters, Lavelle Witt, Kingsport, Roberta Galloway, Church Hill, and Mary Campbell, Bristol; two sons, Fred Poston, Marietta, Penn., and James Poston, Bristol; one sister, Annie Poston, Piney Flats; nine grandchildren, one step-grandson; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Blountville Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. John Anderson officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in the Tri-Cities Memory Gardens.

Kay Sanders
KINGSPORT - Kay Sanders, of Crown Colony, died Tuesday (Oct. 10, 2000) at the Asbury Center Baysmount Healthcare Center after an extended illness.
She was born and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and worked her way through college at Cornell University by doing secretarial work during World War II. She also worked for United Airlines as a stewardess.
She met her husband Judge Clifford Sanders following World War II, married him in November 1945, and worked as his secretary in both his law practice and 25 year judicial tenure on the Tennessee Court of Appeals.
Mrs. Sanders enjoyed traveling and loved the outdoors. She was active with her husband and very much a ladies' lady and highly regarded by all she met.
Mrs. Sanders had been ill since 1997.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Currant; and a sister, Rebecca Currant.
Surviving are her husband, Judge Clifford E. Sanders, of the home; nephews, Biff Baker, and Michael Baker, both of St. Petersburg, Fla.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Oak Hill Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bob Cloud officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mary Shuler
EXETER, Va. - Mary Magalene Shuler, 82, died Tuesday (Oct. 10, 2000) at Wellmont Lonesome Pine Hospital after a brief illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Shuler; her parents, James and Flora (Sampson) Stidham; four sisters, Bonnie Evans, Nora Williams, Emily Jean Lawson, and Lizzie Anderson; and two brothers, Charlie and Johnny Stidham.
Surviving are two daughters, Pebble Shuler, Exeter, Va., and Eva Jean Phillips, Greenfield, Ind.; two sons, Carl Stidham, Wise, Va., and James Stidham, Stonega, Va.; four step-daughters, Betty Montgomery and Bernice Adams, both of Rose Hill, Va., Louise Adams, Mountain City, Tenn., and Roxie Hartsock, Knoxville; two step-sons, Steve Shuler, Exeter, and Harry Shuler, Harlan, Ky.; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth Shuler and Lillie Couch, both of Exeter, and Virginia Hazelwood, Appalachia, Va.; one brother, J.C. Stidham, Keokee, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Holding Funeral Home, Big Stone Gap, Va.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Robert Maggard officiating.
Burial will follow in Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.

Mary Joann Speer
KINGSPORT - Mary Joann Speer, 66, died Wednesday morning (Oct. 11, 2000) at Indian Path Medical Center after an extended illness.
Born in Rogersville, she had resided in Kingsport most of her life. She retired from Montgomery Ward in 1996 after 20 years of service in the automotive bookkeeping department.
Mrs. Speer was a member of the Kingsport Chapter of the Eastern Star and Pleasant View Baptist Church.
Her parents, Dexter and Cledith Jones Miller; and one brother, Kenneth Miller preceded her in death.
Surviving are Ronald K. Speer Sr., Kingsport; two sons, Ronald K. Speer Jr., and Marvin 'Mike' Speer, both of Kingsport; one sister, Bettie Bannick, Mt. Dora, Fla.; one brother, Rodney Miller, Church Hill; two aunts and one uncle, Henry and Evelyn Parvin, Rogersville and Laura Miller, Van Hill; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Raymond Amos and Elder Dewey Ward officiating.

Bertha Stinson
BELFAST, Va. - Bertha Jackson Stinson, 78, died Sunday (Oct. 8, 2000) at the home of her daughter in Baldwin, Long Island, N.Y.
A lifelong resident of Russell County, she was a daughter of the late Jerry and Mary Jane Mutter Jackson. She was a former employee of the Russell Manufacturing Co. in Lebanon, Va.
Mrs. Stinson was a member of the Dennison Chapel United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Ben Stinson.
She was also preceded in death by two infant children, Johnny and Mary Elizabeth Stinson; one son, Bobby Joe Stinson; one sister, Jean Jackson; and one brother, Claude Jackson.
Surviving are two daughters, Patsy Medina, Baldwin, N.Y., and Shirley Slate, Island Park, N.Y.; two sisters, Mildred Hubbard and Velma Morrison, both of Lebanon, Va.; four brothers, Bob Jackson, Belfast, Va., Harold Junior Jackson, Lebanon, Va., Kyle Jackson Gate City, Va., and Roy Jackson, Charleston, S.C.; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Calling hours are after 6 p.m. today at Combs Funeral Service, Lebanon, Va.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Dennison Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul Hite officiating.
Burial will follow in Jackson Family Cemetery.
Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Entombment services for Richard Dean Taylor, 63, Kingsport, who passed away Sunday (Oct. 8, 2000) will be conducted at 1 p.m. today in the East Lawn Mausoleum with full military honors conducted by the American Legion Hammond Post No. 3.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to The Richard Taylor Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Farmers and Miners Bank, 460 Highway 23 North, Weber City, Va. 24290.

Lelia Vanzant
GATE CITY, Va. - Graveside services for Lelia Bloomer Vanzant, 81, who entered into rest early Sunday (Oct. 8, 2000) will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. today to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Tim Bradshaw, Travis Vanzant, Dustin Eads, Andy Vanzant, Michael Taylor and Zachary Taylor.
Honorary pallbearers will be Adam Vanzant, Tristian Shell, Robert Morris, R.E. Morris, and Scott Hebert.

David Wild
KINGSPORT - David C. Wild, 46, passed away Tuesday morning (Oct. 11, 2000) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport.

Mary Wittmer
HAGERSTOWN, Md. - Mary Hilton Wittmer, 87, of 13132 Fountain Head Road, and a guest of Ravenwood Assisted Living, 1183 Luther Dr., died Wednesday (Oct. 11, 2000) at Ravenwood.
Born Dec. 25, 1912 in Nickelsville, Va., she was the daughter of the late James H. and Virgie L. Redwine Hilton.
She was a member of the John Wesley United Methodist Church of Hagerstown, and a 50 year member of the Women's Club.
She was also a member of the Fountain Head Country Club, and a member of the Washington County Hospital Auxiliary.
She and her husband established the Buzzy Wittmer Scholarship Fund at Hagerstown Community College, in memory of their son. It has assisted in the college education of young people of Washington County for the past 40 years. At the present time, there are thirteen young people in college who have been awarded this scholarship to assist in their education. This fund will continue to provide scholarships in the future.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl S. Wittmer Jr.; a son, Carl 'Buzzy' Hilton Wittmer; a brother, Emmett W. Hilton; and a sister, Gertrude N. Gross.
Surviving are a brother, James H. Hilton; four sisters, Julia Jeanette Bearinger and Evelyn Hilton, both of Hagerstown, Letha H. Keesling, Kingsport, and Ann H. Orfield, Roanoke, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, Md.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Suzanna Hilton Smith and the Rev. Robert T. Clipp officiating.
Burial will be in the Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
