Virginia Lee Poe
Virginia Lee Poe of Blue Springs died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at her home. She was 74.
Mrs. Poe was born in Sweet Springs on Jan. 14, 1927. Mrs. Poe was a graduate of Hickman High School. She worked as a fountain manager for Crown Drug Co. in Blue Ridge Mall and for Lowes Drug Co. in Blue Springs.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. today at Webb-Freer Funeral Home, 205 S. 17th St., in Blue Springs. Services will begin at 11 a.m. The Rev. Steve Barker will officiate. Mrs. Poe will be buried at Blue Springs Cemetery.
Mrs. Poe is survived by her husband, Harry Poe of Blue Springs; a daughter, Kay Gibler of Blue Springs; a brother, Donald Neer of Columbia; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

David Lee Watson
David Lee Watson of Columbia died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, of cancer. He was 48.
Mr. Watson was born Dec. 2, 1952, in Columbia to Dwayne and Sue Griggs Watson. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a plumber in civilian life. He was an avid sportsman who loved to hunt and fish.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Nilson Funeral Home, 5611 St. Charles Road. Graveside services, conducted by the Rev. Sara Evans, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Midway Locust Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Watson is survived by his parents; two daughters, Amanda Sue Worster and Carrie Lynn Watson, both of Laconia, N.H.; one brother, Robert Watson of Columbia; one granddaughter, Alyssa Marie Worster of Laconia, N.H.; his maternal grandparents, Robert and Dora Snodgrass of Columbia; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
His sister died earlier.

Lonnie G. Gilmore
Lonnie G. Gilmore of New Bloomfield, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at his home. He was 54.
Mr. Gilmore attended New Bloomfield High School and was an auto mechanic for 40 years in the New Bloomfield area.
He was born Sept. 24, 1946, in Callaway County, to Charles and Naydean Forbis Gilmore.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. today at Houser-Millard Funeral Home - Holts Summit Chapel, 540 S. Summit Drive in Jefferson City. Services, conducted by Chaplain Bart Larson, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Dry Fork Cemetery.
Mr. Gilmore is survived by four brothers, Elva and Tommy Gilmore of New Bloomfield and Wilbur and Randy Gilmore of Columbia; and two sisters, Donna Patrick of Columbia and Judy Vandelicht of Ashland.
One brother and one sister died earlier.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Jane Holdman
Jane Holdman of Gladstone died Monday, April 9, 2001, at Boone Hospital Center. She was 69.
Mrs. Holdman was born March 14, 1932, in Sturgeon. She graduated from Sturgeon High School in 1949 and attended Central Methodist College in Fayette for two years. On April 5, 1952, she married John Lee Holdman. She was a member and active participant at the Meadowbrook United Methodist Church in Gladstone. She retired as supervisor of workers' compensation at Underwriters Adjustment in January 1992, after being associated with the company for many years.
Visitation for Mrs. Holdman will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at D.W. Newcomer's and Sons, White Chapel, 6600 N. Antioch Road, in Gladstone. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Mt. Horeb Cemetery in Sturgeon following a 10 a.m. visitation at Meador & Son Funeral Chapel in Sturgeon.
Mrs. Holdman is survived by her mother, Margaret Benson Bartee of Sturgeon; one son, James Michael Holdman of Kansas City, Kan.; one sister, Barbara Bartee of Roseville, Calif.; and two nieces, Leslie Ritchlin of Denver and Jane Stock of Topeka, Kan.
Her husband died earlier.

Mary Frances Sapp
Mary Frances Sapp of Ashland died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at Ashland Healthcare Inc. She was 90.
Mrs. Sapp was born Feb. 24, 1911, in Hartsburg to Gilbert and Nora "Nellie" Richardson Bennett.
She married Hulen "Pappy" Sapp on June 11, 1928, in Columbia. He died earlier.
Mrs. Sapp worked for Tweedie Shoe Factory in Jefferson City for 20 years until it closed. In 1981, she retired from Stephen's College where she worked in the dining hall.
In her spare time, Mrs. Sapp enjoyed working in her garden. She was also a seamstress and quilter.
Visitation for Mrs. Sapp will be from 10 to 11 a.m. today at Robinson Funeral Home, 601 N. Henry Clay Blvd., in Ashland.
Services, conducted by Elder Wallace Johnson and Johnnie Johnson, will be at 11 a.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will follow at New Liberty Cemetery in Ashland.
Mrs. Sapp is survived by her son, Billy Joe Sapp of Ashland; one sister, Jean Wren of Hartsburg; four grandsons; six great- grandchildren; and nine great-great- grandchildren.
Three brothers and a sister died earlier.

Evelyn B. Davidson
Evelyn B. Davidson of Columbia died Sunday, March 25, 2001 at University Hospital. She was 92.
Mrs. Davidson was born on Sept. 13, 1908, in Boone County to Andrew and Sarah Lillian Homsley Jenkins.
She was a graduate of Hickman High School and worked at Greenspon's as a buyer and in sales. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Columbia.
Graveside services, conducted by the Rev. Bob Russell, will be held at 3 p.m. today at Memorial Park Cemetery, 1217 Business Loop 70 W, and those attending the services should meet at Memorial Funeral Home at the same address.
Mrs. Davidson is survived by a sister, Frances Wayne of Independence, Mo.; four nieces, Rosalind A. Phillips of Falls Church, Va., Linda F. Miller of Independence, Mo., Sherry Blann and Sandra Hoffman of New York State; a sister-in-law, Allene Davidson of Columbia; and several grandnieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Ernest Davidson, one brother and one sister.

Raymond Stone
Raymond Stone of Columbia died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at Boone Hospital Center. He was 77.
Mr. Stone was born Aug. 1, 1923, to J. Curtis and Miriam O'Halloran Stone in Boone County.
On March 11, 1946, he was married to Ruby Proctor in San Diego.
Mr. Stone served in the U.S. Navy from 1940 to 1946 during World War II and survived the attack on Pearl Harbor. Later in life, he served as a volunteer at Ellis Fischel Cancer Center.
Visitation for Mr. Stone will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Parker Funeral Service, 22 N. Tenth St. Services will also be held there at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Mr. Stone is survived by his wife, Ruby Stone of Columbia; two brothers, Buzz Stone of St. Louis and Carl Stone of South Gate, Calif.; a sister, Jean Subtelney of Philadelphia; and a cousin, Mary Buckler of Columbia.
One brother died earlier.

Thomas Hollis
Thomas Hollis of Columbia died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, of severe hemorrhaging. He was 51.
Mr. Hollis moved to Columbia in 1988 from Greenwood, Miss. He was a factory supervisor until he was disabled by a stroke.
"He was one of the healthiest men around when he was able to work," said Willie Hollis, his father.
Mr. Hollis graduated from Valley State University and received a master's degree in business management from Delta State University in Mississippi.
He was born April 1, 1950, in Heth, Ark., to Willie Hollis and Annie Jones Hollis.
Visitation for Mr. Hollis will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at St. Luke United Methodist Church, 204 E. Ash St. Services, conducted by the Rev. Raymond Hayes, will follow at 1 p.m.
Mr. Hollis is survived by his father, of Greenwood, Miss.; his mother, of Columbia; one son, Timothy Hollis of Forest, Miss.; eight brothers, Isaac Hollis, Jimmy Hollis, Marshall Henley, Virgil Horn and Calvin Hollis of Columbia, and Aaron McClee of Memphis, Tenn., and Preston McClee and Mezell McClee of Greenwood, Miss; six sisters, Willie Carter of Memphis, Tenn., Anoctavia Otis of Los Angeles, Lowis Hollis, Carolyn Henley and Bridget Brooks of Columbia, and Verscine McClee of Greenwood, Miss.

Robert D. Denman
Volunteer firefighter Capt. Robert D. Denman went out of his way to help others.
Whether it was providing dinner for an elderly couple who had been involved in a traffic accident on a Thanksgiving Day, or saving lives in numerous emergency situations, Mr. Denman was a hero to those who knew him.
The 19-year veteran of the Boone County Fire Protection District, who was also a member of Urban Search and Rescue Task Force, had been a recipient of the district's Phoenix Award - an award given for the lifesaving care of emergency victims.
The 47-year-old Rocheport resident died Tuesday, April 17, 2001. He fell 27 feet through a fiberglass panel on top of a Jefferson City airplane hangar while working as an estimating manager for Randy Adams Construction, according to Jefferson City police. Mr. Denman was born Oct. 27, 1953, in Wurzburg, Germany, to Douglas and Margaret Woods Denman. He received an associates degree from Columbia College and a bachelors degree in fine arts from Arizona State University.
Friends remember Mr. Denman as a lover of photography, wine and classical music. He and his late wife, Beverly Moore, raised seven basset hounds and an Australian shepherd.
Services will be at 4 p.m. today at the Boone County Fire Station 9 in Midway, with dinner following at Boone County Fire Station 2 in Rocheport.
Mr. Denman is survived by two brothers; David Denman of St. Joseph, and Richard Denman of Lakewood, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
His parents and wife died earlier.

Kenneth E. Bone Sr.
Kenneth Eugene Bone Sr. of Columbia died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at University Hospital. He was 59.
Mr. Bone was employed by the city of Grandview. He was born Jan. 11, 1942, in Selma, Iowa, to Herbert William Bone and Helen Madeline Bechtol Bone.
He married Donna Mae Vincent.
Graveside services, under the direction of Nilson Funeral Home, were at 2 p.m. Thursday at Grandview Cemetery in Centralia.
Mr. Bone is survived by his wife; his mother; four sons, Kenneth Bone Jr. of Quincy, Ill., Herbert Bone of Iowa and Duane Dutton and Daniel Dutton, both of Kansas City; two daughters, Sandy Rogers of Kansas City and Cheryl Sims of Columbia; five brothers, Gerald Bone, Jerry Bone, Bob Bone and Bill Bone, all of Iowa, and Ronnie Bone of Illinois; two sisters, Sharon Jacobs and Carolyn Ellis, both of Iowa; and 16 grandchildren.

Eldridge E. Gerhardt
Eldridge E. "Junior" Gerhardt of Boonville died Monday, April 16, 2001, at Truman Veterans Hospital. He was 76.
Mr. Gerhardt was born Sept. 18, 1924, in New Franklin to Eldridge and Nannie Mae Silvey Gerhardt. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. He received the Victory Medal and The American Cross.
"He worked on the Missouri Pacific Railroad for a number of years," said his friend Albert Burns. "He also worked for the city."
Mr. Gerhardt was a member of the Morgan Street Baptist Church, where he served on the usher board and trustee board. He was the past commander of American Legion Post #79 in Boonville and a member of the Concerned Citizens for the Black Community and the Men's Club in Boonville.
Visitation for Mr. Gerhardt will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the H.T. May and Son Funeral Home, 405 Sycamore St. in Boonville. Visitation will continue from noon to 1 p.m. at Morgan Street Baptist Church, 811 E. Morgan St. in Boonville. Services, conducted by the Rev. T.J. Huskey, will follow at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery on South Street in Boonville.
Mr. Gerhardt is survived by three nephews, John Gerhardt Jr., Kevin Gerhardt and Mark Gerhardt, all of Alton, Ill.; and a cousin, Minnie Wiggins of Detroit.
His brother died earlier.

Danielle T. Kennedy
Danielle T. Kennedy of Columbia died Monday, April 16, 2001, at University Hospital. She was 4.
Cause of death was not released.
Danielle was born Sept. 5, 1996, to Jeffrey and Tonya Hunt Kennedy.
Visitation for Danielle will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Warren Funeral Chapel, 10 N. Fourth St. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Monument of Grace Church of God in Christ, 700 W. Sexton Road.
Danielle is survived by her parents; three brothers, Jeffrey Kennedy Jr., Christopher Kennedy and Traivon A. Kenn
edy, all of Columbia; one sister, Alyssa Kennedy of Columbia; and three grandparents, Eugene Kennedy of Marshfield, Clementine Kennedy of Columbia and Johnnie Louise Weaver of Columbia; five aunts; two uncles; and several cousins.

Sibyl D. Westerfield
Sibyl D. Westerfield of Columbia died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at Riverdell Care Center in Boonville. She was 82.
Mrs. Westerfield was born Nov. 15, 1918, in Buncombe, Ill., to Thomas M. and Daisy Henderson Stewart. She married Paul G. Westerfield on Oct. 10, 1936, and moved to Columbia in 1954. She was a member of the First Christian Church.
"We got married when she was a sophomore in college," Paul Westerfield said. "She went to school in Carbondale and played violin in an orchestra there. She could play music by ear; she loved music and art.
"She also became a self-made seamstress," he said. "She sewed for her grandchildren, and made them some of the finest little dresses you've ever seen."
Visitation for Mrs. Westerfield will be from 12 to 1 p.m. Monday at Parker Funeral Service, 22 N. Tenth St. Services, conducted by the Rev. Dwight Messenger, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Parker Funeral Service. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, 1217 Business Loop 70 W.
Mrs. Westerfield is survived by her husband; a daughter, Pat Messenger of Irvine, Calif.; a son, Jim Westerfield of Columbia; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Her brothers and sisters died earlier.

Russell Wilhite
Russell Wilhite of Dallas, formerly of Columbia, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas. He was 82.
Mr. Wilhite was born April 15, 1919, in Harrisburg to Robert Earl and Mary K. Short Wilhite. He graduated from Hickman High School in 1938 and married Betsy Jean Sheppard on Sept. 11, 1943. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Columbia.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W. Services, conducted by the Rev. Raymond McCallister Jr., will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Wilhite is survived by two sons, David Earl Wilhite of Santa Maria, Calif., and Thomas Ray Wilhite of Dallas; two daughters, Linda Jean West of Wildwood and Donna Gayle Noyes of Duncanville, Texas; four grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
His wife and one grandson died earlier.
