Rosalyn A. Viessman
Rosalyn Ann Viessman of Columbia died Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at Boone Hospital Center. She was 83.
Mrs. Viessman was born April 8, 1919, in Freeburg, a daughter of Anton and Antonette Pohl Schlueter. She married Raymond B. Viessman in St. Louis on June 14, 1941.
Mrs. Viessman retired from the Missouri Secretary of State's Office in 1981. She was a member of Christian Fellowship Church and was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 5 in Jefferson City.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2002, at Christian Fellowship Church of Columbia, 4600 Christian Fellowship Road, Pastor Scott Williams is officiating. There is a graveside service at 12:30 p.m. at Resurrection Cemetery, Jefferson City. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 West.
She is survived by three sons, Roy Lee Viessman of Jefferson City, Ronnie Viessman of El Cerrito, Calif., Donnie Viessman of Columbia; six daughters, Charlotte Schauwecker of Columbia, Sandra "Sammie" Brown of Jefferson City, Linda Bornhoft of Lee's Summit, Karen Sue Viessman of Jefferson City, Mary McCormick of Jefferson City, Cheryl Eads of Taos, Mo.; a sister, Dorothy Holterman of Jefferson City; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Her husband died earlier.
Memorials may be sent to Christian Fellowship Church or Christian Fellowship School, 4600 Christian Fellowship Road, Columbia.

Martha Jean Ward Hopkins
Dedication to her family and her faith characterized Martha Jean Ward Hopkins.
Her son, Nathaniel Conway of Fayette, said his mother was always extremely active in her church and she held her family together. His mother worked hard to raise money for her nine children and keep food on the table, he said.
"She used to raise chickens to earn a little money, and when we went into town to go to church she would take orders from the other ladies," Conway said. "She would then line us all up and we would pluck the chickens for the orders."
Mrs. Hopkins of Boonville died Sunday, June 30, 2002, at her home. She was 72.
She was born May 31, 1930, to the Rev. Ross N. Ward and Laura Viola Parker Ward in Kansas City. She attended Dalton Vocational School, and then worked at the Marshall Rehabilitation Center for more than 31 years until her retirement in 1992.
She married the Rev. Horace Hopkins in 1977.
In addition to her work at the rehabilitation center, Mrs. Hopkins was very active in local religious and secular musical groups.
She gave piano lessons and was the pianist for the Youth Choir, Senior Choir, A Rise and Shine Choir, and assistant pianist for the Inspirational Choir.
Conway said his mother invested a lot of time into her church work, teaching Sunday school and playing the piano and organ. Mrs. Hopkins was a member of Second Baptist Church in Fayette. She played the piano and organ and taught Sunday school there for more than 20 years.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Second Baptist Church in Fayette.
Services, conducted by the Rev. Romie E. Miller, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Linn Memorial United Methodist Church in Fayette. Burial will be at Boonville Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Hopkins is survived by her husband; six sons, Nathaniel Conway of Fayette, Wilbur James Conway of Troy, Michael E. Conway of Marshall, David M. Conway of Stockbridge, Ga., Kevin V. Conway of Jefferson City, and Richard L. Conway of Davenport, Iowa; three daughters, Sandra D. Napier of Marshall, Elizabeth A. Sowell of Linn Creek, and Penelope M. Butler of Marshall; two step-sons, Keith A. Hopkins of Columbia, and Dale Hopkins of Boonville; three step-daughters, Katherine Sharon of Columbia, Christie V. Hopkins of Marshall, and Kay D. Hopkins of Slater, three sisters, Barbara Johns of Kansas City; Elizabeth Coleman of Kansas City; and Eunice L. Green of Huntzville, Ala.; one aunt, Dorothy Harrison of Marshall, 40 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Traci Sunderland Newman
Traci Sunderland Newman died Friday, June 28, 2002, at her home in Columbia. She was 32.
According to a representative of the Boone County Medical Examiner, Ms. Newman's cause of death will not be released for at least two weeks.
Ms. Newman was born Oct. 17, 1969, in Kirksville, to Frank Gerald Sunderland and Carol June Lewis Sunderland.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Nilson Funeral Home, 5611 St. Charles Rd.
Ms. Newman is survived by two brothers, Brian Sunderland of Columbia and Christopher Lewis of Kirksville; and two sisters, Susan Nehls of Geisson, Germany, and Michelle Williams of Sanford, N.C.

Sara Belle Rall
Sara Belle Rall of Columbia died Tuesday, July 2, 2002. She was 67.
She was born Aug. 29, 1934, in Boonville to Maurice Thoma and Geneva Lewis Thoma.
She graduated with honors from Laura Speed Elliot High School in Boonville in 1952. That fall she attended Central Missouri State College, where she met Kenneth Rall, and they were married in the Evangelical and Reformed Church in Boonville on May 27, 1956.
Mrs. Rall taught biology, botany and zoology at Hickman High School. She was also employed by the Pediatric Department at the UMC Medical School where she did research on juvenile diabetes.
Mrs. Rall and her husband joined First Presbyterian Church in Columbia in 1967. Mrs. Rall taught in the church school program and led the communicants class for several years. She was a deacon and elder, and she helped start a maintenance committee for the front courtyard of the church.
Mrs. Rall was involved with the PTA at Shepard Boulevard Elementary School, and she was elected to the city-wide PTA council. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, a Heart of Missouri Girl Scout Council board member, and a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts of Troop 3.
In June 1977, Mrs. Rall earned a master's degree in education.
For 14 years, Mrs. Rall served as an academic advisor for the School of Fisheries and Wildlife at MU, and she was a charter member of the MU Advisors Association. She resigned from her position in 1994 because her Parkinson's disease had progressed to the point that she felt it wasn't possible to serve the students.
Mrs. Rall was a member of the Boone County Medical Auxiliary, Boone County American Cancer Society, Boonslick Quilters Society, MU Alumni Society, Jefferson Club, the Kings Daughters and Ruth Circle. She also enjoyed painting and studied watercolor painting at MU.
Mrs. Rall is survived by her husband; two sons, Kenneth Rall Jr. of Rocheport and Kurt Rall of Overland Park, Kan.; one daughter, Susan Lenz of Willard; a brother, Robert M. Thoma of Boonville; her mother and eight grandchildren.
Mrs. Rall's father died earlier.
Services, conducted by the Rev. George McCall and the Rev. Richard Ramsey, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, 16 Hitt St. Visitation will follow in the social hall. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Lonnie D. Crane
Lonnie Dale Crane of Boonville died Monday, July 1, 2002, at Boone Hospital Center. He was 65.
Mr. Crane was born March 17, 1937, in Hartsburg to Cruse Allen and Ethel Grace Rippeto Crane.
He graduated from Hickman High School in 1955, and then served with the U.S. Army from 1959 until 1961.
He married Thelma Johnmeyer on Jan. 3, 1970, in Boonville. She died earlier. Mr. Crane and his wife enjoyed fishing and camping around Missouri's lakes. They had a camper trailer, which they pulled behind their pickup.
They usually spent the Fourth of July week camping near the Lake of the Ozarks with Mr. Crane's brother Frankie Crane and his wife.
"We'd make a week out of it," Frankie Crane of Columbia said. "We'd visit, go to a show and have a look around."
The two couples also enjoyed attending sprint car races in Sedalia, Jefferson City and occasionally Knoxville, Iowa.
Mr. Crane worked as a refrigeration mechanic for 36 years with the MU Department of Residential Life before retiring several years ago.
He attended Nelson Memorial United Methodist Church.
Visitation for Mr. Crane will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W.
Services, conducted by the Rev. Dan Faust, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Crane is survived by a brother, his mother; a son, Neil Crane of Boonville; a daughter, Sheila Crane-Johnson of Boonville; two sisters, Kay Stone and Esther Tiffany, both of Columbia; and three grandchildren.
His brother, Buford Allen Crane, died earlier.
Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 30638, Columbia, 65205.

Helen Mae Waxler
Helen Mae Waxler of Columbia died Sunday, June 30, 2002, at Boone Retirement Center. She was 90.
She was born July 27, 1911, in Cincinnati to Elmer and Grace Eisnaugle Ottimo.
She graduated from high school in Jackson, Ohio, and from business school in Columbus, Ohio. She married William L. Waxler on July 6, 1935, in Jackson, Ohio.
Mrs. Waxler lived in Columbia for 57 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Kings Daughters and Stephens Faculty Wives.
Mrs. Waxler is survived by her two daughters, Susan Fewell of Columbia and Sandra Shanklin of Lecanto, Fla.; her brother Richard Gottier of Ft. Myers, Fla.; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Her husband died earlier.
There will be a private service under the direction of Parker Funeral Service.

Kenneth Louis Pangborn
Family members describe Kenneth Louis "Kenny" Pangborn as an energetic, family-oriented person who loved life and always had a smile on his face.
"He was very energetic and vocal," his brother Joe Pangborn said. "He never met a stranger. He made everybody he met a friend."
Mr. Pangborn, of Wooldridge, died Thursday, June 27, 2002, at University Hospital from injuries related to a motorcycle accident. He was 34.
Born on Jan. 22, 1968, in Columbia to Thomas and Elizabeth "Betty" Pangborn, Mr. Pangborn married Robin Lipkin on Aug. 22, 1999.
Mr. Pangborn was an avid mountain biker and motorcyclist.
"He enjoyed riding two wheels," Joe Pangborn said. "Whether it was self-propelled or motorized."
Combining his love of cycling with his love of people, Mr. Pangborn rode in a 150-mile charity ride to raise money for multiple sclerosis research.
Mr. Pangborn was well-known for helping out wherever it was needed.
Jennifer Highbarger, a friend of Mr. Pangborn's, said he was a friend to everyone and was always helping other people.
"When my husband died, Kenny immediately kind of stepped in," Highbarger said. "He was going to be the male figure for my son."
Mr. Pangborn often helped his two brothers with building projects and helped friends whenever needed, said his mother. She said many people will remember him for his attitude about life.
"He just loved life," she said. "It's something I've heard people say so many times. He lived it to the fullest."
Visitation for Mr. Pangborn will be 1 to 2 p.m. today, followed by services, conducted by the Rev. Archie Willey, at 2 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W. A celebration of his life will follow at 4 p.m. at Abigail's Restaurant in Rocheport.
Mr. Pangborn is survived by his parents, Thomas and Elizabeth Pangborn of Columbia; his wife, Robin Lipkin of Wooldridge; a daughter, Lili Anna Pangborn of Wooldridge; and two brothers, Thomas Pangborn of Monroe City and Joe Pangborn of Columbia.
Memorials may be sent in the name of Lili Anna Pangborn to Mizzou Credit Union, 111 E. Broadway, Columbia, Mo. 65201.

Aaron K. McLane
Aaron Kyle McLane of Columbia died in an automobile accident Thursday, June 27, 2002, in Sturgeon. He was 19.
Mr. McLane was born March 29, 1983, in Columbia to Chris M. and Joyce Shipp McLane. Visitation for Mr. McLane will be from noon to 2 p.m. today at Nilson Funeral Home, 5611 St. Charles Road. Services, conducted by the Rev. Robert C. Vegiard and the Rev. Fred Erickson, will be at 2 p.m.
Burial will be in Dripping Spring Cemetery in northern Boone County.
Mr. McLane is survived by his parents; his brother, Nathan McLane; and his maternal grandmother, Ida Johnson. All are of Columbia.
Memorial contributions are suggested for the Boy Scouts of America.

Beau T. Talley
Beau Traver Talley was fascinated with dinosaurs his entire life and loved learning everything about them.
"He had toy dinosaurs and read dinosaur books," his father, Robert Kable, said. "If you said something about a dinosaur, he knew what it ate for breakfast, where it went and what it did."
Mr. Talley, of Sturgeon, died in a car accident Thursday, June 27, 2002. He was 22.
Mr. Talley was born Jan. 15, 1980, in Columbia.
Kable said his son was a "down-to-earth kid" who liked to be around people and loved his family.
"Everywhere where he went he made friends at the drop of a hat," Kable said.
His father said Ford trucks were another of Mr. Talley's passions.
"That was his obsession," Kable said. "If anybody else had anything else, they didn't even have a truck."
Beyond just owning Ford trucks, the young man enjoyed fixing them.
"He was pretty good with his hands," Kable said.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Nilson Funeral Home, 5611 St. Charles Road, Columbia. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. He will be buried in Memorial Park Cemetery.
He is survived by his parents, Robert L. Kable of Hallsville and Fawn Marie Halverson of Sugar City, Idaho; stepfather, Larry Halverson, of Sugar City, Idaho; two sisters, Jessica Halverson of Las Vegas, and Rebecca Halverson of Sugar City; stepgrandmother, Joani Talley of Mexico; paternal grandparents, Armin and Bonnie Kable of Sturgeon; and eight cousins.
A brother, Scott Kable, died earlier.

Riley Harmon
When he returned home from being a prisoner of war in Germany, all Riley Harmon wanted was a big dinner of steak and French fries, said his sister, Mary Towne. "He was so starved when he got home that he could reach his fingers around his waist," she said.
Riley C. Harmon of Ashland died Friday, June 28, 2002, at Ashland Healthcare. He was 73.
Mr. Harmon was born July 24, 1928, in Ashland to Lawrence Harmon and Mary Sapp Harmon. He was an Army veteran and a retired construction worker. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and the company of his dog, Bubba, Towne said.
A memorial service will be held later. Arrangements are under the direction of Nilson Funeral Home, 5611 St. Charles Road, Columbia.
He is survived by his daughter, Ingrid Ballenger of Columbia; a brother, L.L. "Bud" Harmon of Ashland; two sisters, Mary Towne of Tipton and Melvina Pauley of Culver City, Calif.; two grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Mr. Harmon's wife, Ilse Harmon, died earlier.
