Viola Griffis
Viola O. Griffis, 83, Joplin, died at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997,
at her home after a long illness. Mrs. Griffis was born July 2, 1914, at Mineral Springs, Ark. She moved to Joplin in 1932 from Arkansas. She was a self-employed hairdresser and operated shops in Joplin. She was graduated from Sarasota High School, Mineral Springs, and from the former Joplin Beauty School. She was a member of Forest Park Baptist Church, Joplin.
She married Newlon I. Griffis in 1933 in Joplin. He died Dec. 24, 1980.
Survivors include a son, Keith N. Griffis, Joplin; a daughter, Judy C. Krutsinger, Joplin; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary, Joplin, with Keith Jackson, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, Joplin.
Pallbearers will be Brian Estes, Hector Graciano, Dean Griffis and Matt Clements.

John Kell
John Henry Kell, 67, 1511 Marzelle Drive, died at 3:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, at his home after a long illness.
Mr. Kell was born Aug. 16, 1930, in Cardin, Okla., and lived most of his life in Webb City. He moved to Joplin three months ago from Webb City. He was graduated from Picher (Okla.) High School in 1949. He attended the former Joplin Junior College and was graduated from Pittsburg (Kan.) State University with a bachelor's degree in physics. He was former owner of Kell Drilling Co. and former owner of Orange Julius in Northpark Mall. He most recently was owner of Joplin Transfer and Storage. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War who served from 1950 to 1952.
He married Suzanne Jackson on Feb. 9, 1946, at Columbus, Kan. She survives.
Additional survivors include a son, Randall S. Kell, Webb City; three daughters, Jonna Calinda and Kristi Lopes, both of Joplin, and Glynnis "Jeannie" Norwood, Nashville, Tenn.; and seven grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Simpson Funeral Home, Webb City, with the Rev. Leroy Roland officiating. The body has been cremated.

Norman Foster
LAMAR, Mo. - Norman G. Foster, 78, Denton, Texas, formerly of Lamar, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, at Denton Regional Medical Center after a long illness.
Mr. Foster was born Dec. 23, 1919, in Chicago, Ill. He was an Army veteran of World War II who served in the Army Entertainment Corps on the North African front. He received his bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of Chicago in 1941 and his master's degree and Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Arkansas. He joined the faculty of Texas Women's University in 1965, where he taught chemistry until he retired in 1985. He was a career research chemist and a mass spectrometist. He was also co-author of a textbook, Interpretation of Mass Spectra of Organic Compounds, which was commonly used in many graduate mass spectrometry programs.
He was a Fellow of the AAAS, a Fellow of the AIC and a charter member of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry. He was a member of New York Academy of Sciences, Texas Academy of Sciences, American Chemical Society, American Association of University Professors, Coblentz Society, Planetary Society and Dallas Society of Analytical Chemists. He was named "Analyst of the Year" in 1974 by the Dallas Society of Analytical Chemists.
He married Alice Belle Stover in February 1944 in Joplin. She died in 1983. He married Ardis L. Sedlacek in January 1985. She died in September 1996.
Survivors include five daughters, Christine C. Lorenz, Liverpool, N.Y., Susan E. Lacy, Weatherford, Texas, Karen Cason, Del Valle, Texas, Claire A. Foster, Plano, Texas, and Francene F. Vahlenkamp, Denton, Texas; a sister, Faith Foster Stephan, Bethesda, Md.; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Schmitz-Floyd-Anderson Funeral Home, Denton.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Lake Cemetery, Lamar.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Lohmeyer-Konantz Funeral Home, Lamar.
Contributions may be made to the Dr. Norman G. Foster Chemistry Scholarship in care of Lohmeyer-Konantz Funeral Home, Lamar.

Jean Joyce
LAMAR, Mo. - Jean L. Joyce, 75, Lamar, died at 2:23 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, at Barton County Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
Miss Joyce was born Dec. 18, 1922, in the Boston community, near Lamar. She had lived in Kansas City, Mo., for 27 years before she returned to Lamar in 1971. She worked for many years as a waitress at Putsch's Cafeteria on the Plaza, Kansas City. She retired in 1971. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Lamar, where she was a member of the TEL Class. She volunteered at the Good Samaritan Shop, Lamar.
Survivors include a brother, Floyd A. Joyce, Lockwood; and a sister, Jewell J. Gardner, Lamar.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lamar First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Lake Cemetery, Lamar.
Pallbearers will be Jared Graham, Eric Fast, Jeremy Fast, Delton Fast, Damon Joyce and Mike Joyce.
Contributions may be made to Lamar First Baptist Church or the Good Samaritan Shop in care of Lohmeyer-Konantz Funeral Home, Lamar.

Patrick Larkie
GRANBY, Mo. - Patrick J. Larkie, 25, Granby, was pronounced dead at 1:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, after an automobile accident on Business Highway 60 northeast of Neosho.
Mr. Larkie was born July 16, 1972, at Kansas City. He moved to the Granby area two years ago.
Survivors include his wife, Brandie DeAnn Larkie, Granby; two daughters, Bosha Larkie and Tarena Larkie, of the home; and his parents, Patrick Larkie, El Dorado Springs, and Della Larkie, Kansas City.
The body has been cremated. No formal services are planned.
Arrangements are under direction of Clark Funeral Home, Granby.

Mary McNair
WEBB CITY, Mo. - Mary Margaret Myers McNair, 69, Overland Park, Kan., a Webb City native, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, at Shawnee Mission (Kan.) Medical Center after an illness.
Mrs. McNair was born June 14, 1928, in Webb City. She attended Webb City schools, the former Joplin Junior College and Park College. She was a bookkeeper for Jack Henry's Mining Store and for School District No. 512. She was office manager for Acme Brick Co., Olathe, Kan., for 19 years. She was a member of Overland Park Presbyterian Church for many years.
She volunteered with Cub Scout Pack 318 at Cherokee Elementary School and Boy Scout Troop 94 and Explorer Post 2094, both at Overland Park Presbyterian Church. She also participated in PTA at Cherokee and Pawnee Elementary Schools. She was active in German-American clubs in the Kansas City area and served as secretary for the Edelweiss Club during the past year. She had also participated in AARP Volunteer Tax Preparers program for several years.
She married Carlton B. McNair on June 7, 1950, in Webb City. He survives.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Paula Ann Riniket, Gardner, Kan.; two sons, Ray McNair, Oak Grove, and James McNair, Leawood, Kan.; two brothers, Robert Myers, Kansas City, Kan., and John Meyers, Galena, Kan.; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Overland Park Presbyterian Church. The body will be cremated.
Contributions may be made to Overland Park Presbyterian Church, in care of Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner.

Jason Sullivan
CARTHAGE, Mo. - Jason Lee Scott Sullivan, infant son of Jason Scott Sullivan and Misty Lynn Sullivan, was stillborn Tuesday night, Dec. 30, 1997, at Freeman Hospital West, Joplin.
Additional survivors include a sister, Malaina Lynn Bolin, of the home; paternal grandparents, Jim Sullivan, Carthage, and Sandra Sullivan, Carthage; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bolin, Carthage; and a great-grandmother, Mildred Webb, Doniphan.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Faskin Cemetery, Carthage.
The family will receive friends at the home, Route 5, Box 422, Carthage.
Arrangements are under direction of Ulmer Funeral Home, Carthage.

Dorothy Minor
PITTSBURG, Kan. - Dorothy Rae Minor, 62, 549 S. 260th St., died at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, at Mount Carmel Medical Center after a long illness.
Mrs. Minor was born Aug. 20, 1935, at Columbus and was a lifetime Columbus and Pittsburg area resident. She was graduated from Cherokee County High School, Columbus, in 1953. She was a homemaker most of her life.
She married Oliver Minor on May 15, 1953, at Cherokee. He survives.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Kathryn Carr Hernandez, Webb City, Mo.; a son, Ray Minor, Neodesha; a sister, Jane Miller, Everett, Wash.; a brother, John F. Kretchet III, St. Louis, Mo.; and three grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Highland Park Cemetery, Pittsburg, with the Rev. Clifford Allmon officiating.
Friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, Pittsburg.
Friends are requested to meet at the cemetery Saturday.
Contributions may be made to the Girl Scouts-Blue Stem Council in care of the funeral home.

Dorsey Shumake
COLUMBUS, Kan. - Dorsey L. Shumake, 79, 322 N. Railroad Ave., died at 9:34 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, after an illness.
Mr. Shumake was born Dec. 31, 1918, at Purcell, Mo. He moved to Columbus as a young child, where he attended schools. He worked in construction and in lead and zinc mines in Oklahoma for several years. He later worked in the maintenance department of Medicalodge in Columbus. He was an Army veteran of World War II who served from 1941 to 1945.
He married Dorothy L. Eddington on Jan. 26, 1951, at Fayetteville, Ark. She died Aug. 22, 1993.
Survivors include five daughters, Patricia Lewis, Riverton, Raylene Jacquinet, Weir, Genell Taylor and Cheryl Shumake, both of Columbus, and Tammie Hall, Hallowell; a sister, Norma Ryan, Corona, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Murdock Funeral Home, Columbus, with the Rev. Jeff Martin and the Rev. Wilma Heavin officiating. Burial will be in Park Cemetery, Columbus.

Norma Hunt
PICHER, Okla. - Norma A. Hunt, 58, 510 N. Main St., died at 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, at Baptist Regional Health Center, Miami, after a sudden illness.
Mrs. Hunt was born March 31, 1939, in Picher, and was a lifetime resident. She was a member of Picher Church of the Nazarene. She was graduated from Picher High School in 1957. She worked as a med-aide at Heritage House, Miami, and the Miami Nursing Home. She had also worked for U.S. Metal, Miami. She retired from nursing on May 20, 1992.
She married Bill Hunt on July 19, 1980, at Miami. He survives.
Additional survivors include three sons, Mike Brown, Austin, Texas, Doug Leatherman, West Valley, Utah, and Patrick Leatherman, Picher; a daughter, Elizabeth Brown, Midland, Texas; two stepsons, Craig Hunt, Wichita, Kan., and Steve Hunt, Palmdale, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Paul Thomas Funeral Home, Picher, with the Rev. Steve Joiner officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, northwest of Treece, Kan.
Pallbearers will be Larry Linthicum, Billy Kerley, Max Mantle, Darrell Nichols, Guy Fried and Robert Morgan.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Leon Kassab
Leon R. Kassab, 73, 1451 Crestwood Drive, died Friday morning, Jan. 2, 1998, at his home after an illness.
Mr. Kassab was born Sept. 27, 1924, in Joplin and was a lifetime resident. He attended Joplin schools and was graduated in 1942 from Joplin High School. He attended the former Joplin Junior College and Iowa State College, Ames, before he enlisted in the Army Air Corps cadet program. He became a first lieutenant as a bombardier on a B-24 in the 514th squadron, 376th Bombardiers Sixth Group in Italy during World War II, completing 50 missions in 1944, 25 of which he was lead bombardier of his squadron.
After the war, he was graduated from Washington University, St. Louis. He then joined his father, Ralph L. Kassab, at Kassab's store in Joplin, where he worked until he retired in 1993. He was a member of the Joplin Board of Realtors since 1979.
He was active in civic affairs and served as chairman of Joplin's Centennial Celebration in 1973. He received the Rex Plumbum Award from the Joplin Historical Society in 1974. He was president of the Joplin Chamber of Commerce for the 1977-78 term and served on the Joplin Industrial Development Committee.
He served as president of the Downtown Joplin Association. He served on the board of directors and was a member of Twin Hills Golf and Country Club. He was a member of Missouri Southern State College's Southern Lantern Society. He was a member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church, where he served on the vestry and was a Sunday school teacher.
He married Dolores Bove in 1953. She survives.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Karolee Kassab Blanchard, Joplin; a son, Ralph Leon Kassab, Joplin; a sister, Martha Kassab Thomas, Joplin; a brother, Anthony R. Kassab, Joplin; and four grandchildren.
One daughter preceded him in death.
Arrangements are pending with Parker Mortuary.
Contributions may be made to St. Philip's Episcopal Church, Mercy Health Resource Library or a hospice program.

John Kell
Memorial services for John Henry Kell, 67, 1511 Marzelle Drive, who died Thursday, will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Simpson Funeral Home, Webb City.
The Rev. Leroy Roland will officiate.
The body has been cremated.
Arrangements are under the direction of Simpson Funeral Home, Webb City.

Julie Tichota
Julie Ann Tichota, 41, 2008 E. Second St., died at 11:23 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, at University Hospital, Little Rock, Ark., after suffering from myelofibrosis.
Miss Tichota was born April 13, 1956, at Lima, Ohio. She moved to Joplin in 1961 from Ohio. She was graduated in 1974 from the former Parkwood High School in Joplin. She was a professional illustrator and creator of Angels Afoot, a line of products featuring angelic illustrations of her cats.
She was a member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church, Joplin.
Survivors include her parents, L.W. "Joe" and JoAnn Tichota, Joplin; a brother, Jon Tichota, Evanston, Ill.; and a sister, Terry Jo Tichota, Las Vegas, Nev.
Services will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at St. Philip's Episcopal Church. The Rev. Daniel Erdman and Cynthia Schwab will officiate.
The body will be cremated.
Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
Contributions may be made to the Joplin Humane Society, in care of the mortuary.

Blanche Barnes
NEOSHO, Mo. - Blanche L. Barnes, 85, Neosho, died at 5:55 a.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 1998, at Freeman Neosho Hospital after a two-month illness.
Mrs. Barnes was born Aug. 19, 1912, at Norman, Okla. She lived in Ardmore, Okla., for many years before she moved to Neosho in the fall of 1994. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Ardmore.
She married A.J. Houston Barnes on July 28, 1939, at Ardmore. He died Feb. 26, 1996.
Survivors include a son, Ken Barnes, Neosho; a brother, Guy Givens, Ardmore; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Griffin-Kennedy-Watts Funeral Home, Ardmore. The Rev. Wayne Fite will officiate. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery.
Local arrangements are under the direction of Clark Funeral Home, Neosho.
Contributions may be made to the Newton County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home.

William Black
MONETT, Mo. - William Lyle Black, 93, Monett, died at 7 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, at a nursing home in Monett after a sudden illness.
Mr. Black was born May 31, 1904, at McDowell. He had lived in Monett most of his life. He was graduated in 1922 from Monett High School and attended Southwest Missouri State University, Springfield. He was a wire chief for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. before he retired in 1967.
He served on the Monett Board of Education for two years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Monett; Masonic Lodge No. 129, A.F. & A.M., Monett; Monett Chapter No. 190 and Queen Esther Chapter No. 202 of the Order of Eastern Star. He was a charter member of the Lions Club.
He married Loraine Ennes on Oct. 15, 1927, in the Bethel community, near Monett. She died Nov. 24, 1988.
Survivors include a son, James O. Black, Salem; two daughters, Frances Carlin, Monett, and Beverly Crain, Bloomfield, N.M.; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home, Monett. The Rev. Genevieve Gwinn and the Rev. Mark Mildren will officiate. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Monett.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to Hospice of First United Methodist Church, Monett, in care of the funeral home.

Paul Mathis
SELIGMAN, Mo. - Paul Mathis, 79, Seligman, died at 11:35 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, at his home after a short illness.
Mr. Mathis was born May 23, 1918, at Center Point, Iowa. He had lived in Center Point and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Chicago, Ill., before he moved to Seligman 28 years ago. He was a heavy machine welder.
He was a member of Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Bentonville, Ark., and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.
He married Judith Humes on April 16, 1961, at Chicago. She survives.
Additional survivors include two daughters, Linda Paulette Chapman, Yuma, Ariz., and Elona Sue Mathis, Gateway, Ark.; a brother, Ivan Dale Mathis, Center Point; two sisters, Elona Carol Armstrong, Redland, Calif., and Millicent Cox, Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services and burial will be at a later date in Center Point, Iowa.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Williamson Funeral Home, Cassville.

Mary McNair
WEBB CITY, Mo. - Memorial services for Mary Margaret Myers McNair, 69, Overland Park, Kan., a Webb City native who died Tuesday, will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at Overland Park Presbyterian Church.
The body will be cremated.
Contributions may be made to Overland Park Presbyterian Church, in care of Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, Kan.
Survivors include a daughter, Paula Ann Riniker, Gardner, Kan.; and a brother, John Myers, Galena, Kan.

Marion Nichols
NEVADA, Mo. - Marion Alan Nichols, 3-month-old son of Crystal Dawn Nichols, Nevada, died suddenly Wednesday morning, Dec. 31, 1997, at his home.
He was born Sept. 3, 1997, in Nevada.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, are a sister, Megan Lynn Carlson, of the home; maternal grandfather, Robert Eugene Cox, Nevada; maternal grandmother and stepgrandfather, April and Marion Nichols, Nevada; and maternal great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Brown, Rich Hill, and Virginia Smalley, Nevada.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Greenlawn Cemetery, Rich Hill. The Rev. Paul Leasor will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

Lee Petty Jr.
WEBB CITY, Mo. - Lee T. Petty Jr., 73, 726 S. Walker, died at 8:20 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, at a local nursing home after a short illness.
Mr. Petty was born April 1, 1924, Joplin, where he was a lifetime resident. He served in the Army during World War II. He worked as a mechanic at H. Messick Inc. for 23 years and Contract Freighters Inc., where he retired in 1985. He was a Christian.
He married Billie Phelps on Dec. 25, 1945, at Columbus, Kan. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Lee Travis Petty III, Joplin; two sisters, Mussetta Stratton, Joplin and Dorothy Dodd, Carthage; three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Mason Woodward Mortuary. Randy Gariss will officiate. Burial will be in Stone Cemetery, Diamond. Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Lee Petty, Brian Petty, Travis Petty, Brandon Petty, Terry McGinnis and Richard Macias.

Seraphine Renkoski
WENTWORTH, Mo. - Seraphine Renkoski, 82, Wentworth died at 10:40 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, at Monett Health Care Center after a long illness.
Mrs. Renkoski was born Sept. 18, 1915, at Pierce City, Mo. She was a retired seamstress, working in clothing manufacturing. She was a member St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Pulaskifield.
She married John Renkoski in October 1938. He died in June 1989.
Survivors include a son, Phil Renkoski, Pierce City; two daughters, Phyllis Carder, Monett and Janice Fenske, Wentworth; a brother, Ed Hagedorn, Gentry, Ark.; a sister, Pauline Cendroski, Pierce City; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. David Miller will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Wessell Funeral Home, Pierce City, with visitation to follow.
Contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation.

Norma Webb
WEBB CITY, Mo. - Norma D. Webb, 66, 601 S. Oronogo St., died at 6:55 a.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 1998, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, after a long illness.
Mrs. Webb was born April 15, 1931, at Nashville, Mo. She lived in the Webb City area most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Church of the Nazarene, Webb City.
Survivors include her husband, Harold T. Webb Sr.; a son, Harold T. Webb Jr., Webb City; a daughter, Janice Bender, Hampton, Va.; four sisters, Mary Heifner, Diamond, Virginia Sinnard, Eureka, Calif., Beverly Cole, Cedar Bluff, Va., and Dorothy Cooper, Webb City; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
One son preceded her in death.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Mount Hope Cemetery, Webb City. Craig Hunnel, pastor, will officiate.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Dale Wootton
LAMAR, Mo., - Dale Wootton, 75, Lamar, died at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, at his home after a sudden illness.
Mr. Wootton was born Aug. 12, 1922, at Lamar. he graduated from Lamar High School in 1940, and lived in Garden City, N.Y. for 17 years. He moved back to Lamar in 1967. He and his wife owned and operated Lamar Cleaners from 1968 to 1983. He later worked for Thorco several years and currently was working for the Barton County Historical Society.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the HounDawg No. 203 National Guard Unit. He was called into active Army duty from September 1940 through October 1945. He was a past member of Lamar Kiwannis Club and Lamar Rotary Club. He attended Lamar United Methodist Church.
He married Goldia McNary Mallory on June 22, 1968. She survives.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Gail Gregory, Dallas, Texas; two step-daughters, Pam Cicero, Overland Park, Kan., and Karen Charron, Belton; four brothers, Bob Wootton, Topeka, Kan., Jack Wootton and Dick Wootton, Whittier, Calif., and Gary Wootton, Gypsum, Colo., and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Lohmeyer-Konantz Funeral Home, with the Rev. Clif Crockett officiating.
Burial will be at Lake Cemetery, Lamar. Graveside military rites will be conducted by VFW Post No. 369.
Contributions may be made to the Barton County Historical Society.

John Davis
CHETOPA, Kan. - John Lincoln Davis, 85, Chetopa, died at 6 a.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 1998, at a Chetopa nursing home after a long illness.
Mr. Davis was born July 7, 1913, at Vian, Okla. He moved to Chetopa in 1945. He then lived in Bartlesville for about eight years and later returned to Chetopa. He was a retired butcher and had worked at Weddings Grocery, Chetopa, for several years. He was a member of Chetopa First Baptist Church.
He married Emma Gene Shue on Nov. 8, 1933. at Sallisaw, Okla. She died Nov. 5, 1992.
Surivors include a son, Michael Eugene Davis, Dickinson, Texas; two daughters, Donna Irene Bruce, Welch, Okla., and Shirley Turner, Chetopa; two brothers, Tom Davis, Vian, and Joe Davis, Wichita Falls, Texas; two sisters, Lula Krater, Tulsa, Okla., and Lena Speck, Pontiac, Mich.; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Thomas Funeral Home, Welch, with the Rev. Raymond Whetstone and the Rev. Dallas Martin officiating.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Vian.
Pallbearers will be David Bruce, Steve Bruce, Darrell Bruce, John Carl Davis, John Shanks and Chris Lundy.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to Faith Baptist Church or First Baptist Church, both of Chetopa, in care of the funeral home.

John Davidson
COLUMBUS, Kan. - John L. Davidson, 94, Columbus, died at 8:50 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, at a nursing home in Columbus after an illness.
Mr. Davidson was born Dec. 5, 1903, in Cherokee County. He was a farmer. He was graduated in 1921 from Columbus High School. He attended Pittsburg State University and Bluffton College, Bluffton, Ohio.
He was a member of Bellview Mennonite Church in Columbus.
There are no immediate survivors.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today at Edgmand Cemetery, northwest of Columbus. The Rev. Kenneth Davidson will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of Murdock Funeral Home, Columbus.

Edith Brewer
MIAMI, Okla - Edith L. Brewer, 90, Muskogee, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, at Muskogee Regional Medical Center after an illness. She was the mother of Norma Jean McClure, Miami.
Mrs. Brewer was born Dec. 20, 1907, in Garnett, Kan. She was a homemaker.
She married Waldo Brewer in 1981. He preceded her in death.
Additional survivors include a son, Charles Brewer, Muskogee; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Greenhill Cemetery with John Derr officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home.

Larry Fraley
DISNEY, Okla. - Larry Wayne Fraley, 53, Disney, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997, at his home after a sudden illness.
Mr. Fraley was born May 15, 1944, in Wichita, Kan. He moved to the area in 1993 from Midwest City. He worked at Tinker Air Force Base as an aircraft mechanic until he retired in 1991.
Survivors include two brothers, Lloyd Fraley, Disney, and Harold Fraley, Scottsdale, Ariz.; and a sister, Wanda Faye Thompson, Mulvane, Kan.
Graveside services were Wednesday at Ketchum Cemetery, Ketchum. Elmo Joseph, chaplain, officiated. The Grove Veterans Ritual Team conducted burial services.
Arrangements were under the direction of Hinderliter-Woodard Funeral Service, Langley.

Nolon Oakley
AFTON, Okla. - Nolon Phillip Oakley, 79, Afton route 4, died at 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, at Baptist Regional Medical Center, Miami, after an illness.
Mr. Oakley was born Aug. 9, 1918, in Afton and was a lifetime resident. He was a farmer and carpenter. He also worked for Farmland Industries and retired in 1982.
He was a charter member of Afton Co-op and was a member of Assembly of God Church.
He married Doris Stacy on Dec. 15, 1945, at Columbus, Kan. She survives.
Additional survivors include four sons, Phil Oakley, David Oakley, James Oakley and Stacy Oakley, all of rural Afton; a daughter, Reta Shamblin, Bluejacket; a brother, Leo Oakley, Tulsa; six sisters, Fern Overacre, Fairland, Rowena Countryman and Pauline Harrison, both of Englewood, Colo., Dayna Linn, Cauline King and Emmalese Rider, all of Afton; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Trinity Baptist Church, Afton. The Rev. Ron Mimms and the Rev. Howard Cockrell will officiate. Burial will be in Sixkiller Cemetery, southeast of Afton.
Pallbearers will be Danny Palmer, Dean Fisher, Clarence Gibson, Roy Fuser, James Fuser, Bud Oakley, Jim Hayes and Eugene King.
Arrangements are under the direction of Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home, Afton.
