Ola Edith Moore Joines, age 81, of Barnes Lane, Stony Point, died Thursday, December 15, 2005, at her residence following an extended illness. She was born in Alexander County November 27, 1924, the daughter of the late Daniel Moore and Bertha Parker Moore. She was a member of Stony Point Baptist Church and was retired from the furniture industry. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, David Moore, and a sister, Viona Alexander. Survivors include three sons, Bill Joines and wife Rebecca of Hiddenite and Glenn Joines and wife Ann and Roy Lee Joines, all of Stony Point; one daughter, Brenda Lail and husband Bill of Hickory; one sister, Lola Faye Clary of Stony Point; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, December 17, 2005, at Stony Point Baptist Church with Rev. Greg Barefoot and Rev. Tony Dyson officiating. Burial followed in the Stony Point Cemetery. Roland R. Chapman, age 76, of Sipe Road, Taylorsville, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour, Thursday, December 15, 2005, at Frye Regional Medical Center. He was born in Alexander County December 26, 1928, the son of the late Edward Franklin Chapman and Vera McBride Chapman. He was a member of Liledoun Baptist Church, where he had served in many capacities, including choir director, Sunday School teacher for the Adult Men’s #1 Class, Superintendent of Sunday School, and as a deacon. He was employed with Clayton-Marcus Furniture for thirty years and also worked at Jamestown Furniture. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Ned, Coolidge, Don, and Claude Chapman, and two sisters, Jenna Barnes and Anna Payne.
Survivors include his wife, Ellen Fox Chapman of the home; one son, Gerald Chapman of Taylorsville; one daughter, Joye Brown and husband Levaughn of Taylorsville; two grandchildren, Justin Brown and wife Beth of Charlotte and Wendy Ledford and husband Brian of Taylorsville; two great-grandchildren, Blake and Eli Ledford of Taylorsville; three sisters, Clara Herman, Mary McGlamery, and Margie Presnell, all of Taylorsville; one brother, Paul Chapman of Stony Point; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral service were conducted Saturday, December 17, 2005, at Liledoun Baptist Church with Rev. James Bumgarner, Rev. James Lockee, and Rev. Coy Walker officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers included Cary Davis, Joe Rhyne, Jr., Scott Payne, Terry Russell, Gary Kerley, and Richard Bowman. Memorials may be made to the Liledoun Baptist Church Adult Men’s #1 Sunday School Class Flower and Benevolence Fund, P.O. Box 475, Taylorsville, NC 28681. Mildred Leona Bolick Payne, age 77, formerly of Rink Dam Road, Taylorsville, died Friday, December 16, 2005, at Brian Center East in Hickory following a two-year illness. She was born in Alexander County October 28, 1928, the daughter of the late Adrian Cecil Bolick and Lottie Willielee Eckard Bolick. She had been employed in the hosiery and furniture industries and was a member of Mt. Pisgah Lutheran Church, where she tended the nursery for more than twenty-five years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Richard Payne; a sister, Barbara Bolick; three brothers-in-law, Levi Dagenhart, Richard Bolick and William Glenn “Buster” Payne; a sister-in-law, Precious Bolick; and mother-in-law, Christine “Nanny” Elder. Survivors include two sisters, Betty Jo Dagenhart of Bethlehem and Cecilia Lail and husband Clyde of Conover, and two brothers, Jerry Bolick and wife Sherry and Wade Bolick, all of Bethlehem. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, December 18, 2005, at Mt. Pisgah Lutheran Church with Rev. Mike Stone officiating. Burial followed in Catawba Memorial Park. Pallbearers included Kevin Bolick, Duran Lail, Keith Bolick, Stephen Dagenhart, Kasey Bolick, and Kenneth Bolick. Honorary pallbearers included Tony Lail, Curtis Payne, Jeffrey Payne, Billy Payne, Curtis Payne, Jr., Jonathan Payne, Jordan Payne, and Michael Payne. Memorials may be made to Mt. Pisgah Lutheran Church, 9379 NC Hwy. 127, North, Hickory, NC 28601 or to Palliative Care Center & Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Rd., Newton, NC 28658. Lucille McDaniel Pyles, age 81, of Austin, Texas, died Wednesday, December 14, 2005, following an extended illness. She was the daughter of the late Robert F. McDaniel and Martha M. McDaniel. Survivors include two daughters, Linda G. Falgley of Austin, Texas, and Dixie J. Lackey and husband Edward of Stony Point; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Ralph N. McDaniel of Roanoke, Va.; and two sisters, Mary Sue Jones of Roanoke, Va., and Frances Mattlingly of Lexington, Ky. There was no formal funeral. Chapman Funeral Home of Stony Point was in charge of local arrangements.

Woodrow Stumbo, age 79, of Welch, West Va., and formerly of Statesville, died Wednesday, December 14, 2005, in Charleston, West Va. He was born in Paw Paw, Ky., November 8, 1926, the son of the late Walter Stumbo and Frankie Raines Stumbo. He was of the Baptist faith and was a coal miner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Willard Stumbo; a sister, Jackie Worri; and a nephew. Survivors include four nephews, Paul, Johnny, Darrell, and Dennis Stumbo, and three nieces, Mae Knight, Sue Cloer, and Barbara Stumbo. A graveside service was conducted Saturday, December 17, 2005, at Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville with Rev. Dale Ellis officiating. Patricia Louise Warren, age 38, of Hiddenite Church Road, Hiddenite, died Monday, December, 19, 2005, at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville following a lengthy illness. She was born April 20, 1967, in Iredell County, a daughter of Melvin Howard Warren of the home and the late Thelma Louise Stancil Warren. She was manager of Hardee’s Restaurant in Taylorsville and attended Millersville Baptist Church. In addition to her father, she is survived by a sister, Brenda Alley of Laurel Fork, Va.; three brothers, Billy and David Stancil of Taylorsville and James Warren of Hiddenite; paternal grandmother, Treva Fox of Hiddenite; and stepmother, Louise Walker of Stony Point. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2005, at Millersville Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Orren, Rev. Eddie Jolly, and Rev. Mitchell Rash officiating. The body will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour. Burial will follow in the Hiddenite Cemetery. Peggy Jean L. Barber, age 57, of McCarty Lane, Taylorsville, died Wednesday, December 21, 2005, at her residence. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Adams Funeral Home in Taylorsville.

Pansy Russell Reid, 83, formerly of Taylorsville passed away Tuesday, December 20 in Burke County. She was born October 22, 1922 to William Jefferson Russell and Mary Rectaner Treadaway in Alexander County. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Williams Reid; one daughter, Brounda Reid Orren; one infant son, Wesley Reid; three brothers, R.J., Ernest and Thurston Russell; and four sisters, Della Russell, Rella Russell White, Madge Russell Pearson and Betty Jean Russell. Pansy was a member of Russell Gap Baptist Church. She worked as a cook at Rainbow Diner for a number of years. Loved ones left to cherish her memory include; two sons, Grady Reid and wife Marie, Jeff Reid and wife Scottie, all of Taylorsville; three daughters, Amelia Reid Elfrez of Plano TX, Patsy Reid Toman and husband John of Morganton, and Joy Reid of Lenoir; one brother, Mayford Russell; eleven grandchildren; nine step-grandhildren; one great-grandchild; eight step-great-grandchildren; along with a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Thursday, December 22, 2005, 6-8 pm, at Alexander Funeral Service. Funeral service will be Friday, December 23, 2005, 2 pm, at Russell Gap Baptist Church. Rev. Buster Treadaway will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Burke Hospice and Pallative Care, 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690. Funeral arrangements provided by Alexander Funeral Service, Taylorsville, NC. Freida Ellen Deal Cline, age 82, of Wayside Church Road, Taylorsville, died Tuesday, December 20, 2005, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care Center following an illness of six months. She was born April 1, 1923, in Alexander County, the daughter of the late Solon Edward Deal and Hetty Honorah Deal. She was a homemaker and activity director for N.C. Lutheran Homes. She also was a life-long member of Friendship Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the Women of the Church, the Adult Sunday School Class, and a member of the Social Ministry Committee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Arvel Deal. Survivors include her husband, William Eugene Cline of the home; a son, Wade J. Cline and wife Deborah of Hickory; a brother, Glay P. Deal and wife Violet of Hickory; two grandchildren, Dana Killian and Wendy Cline, both of Hickory; one great-grandchild, Gavin Killian of Hickory; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2;00 p.m. Friday, December 23, 2005, at Friendship Lutheran Church with Rev. Todd Rauscher and Rev. Phil Thorsen officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 22, 2005, at Friendship Lutheran Church.
Pallbearers include Allen Hefner, Jerry Hefner, Ronald Craig, Lee Simmons, Roger Deal, and Rodney Cline. Jean Minton Fox, age 67, of Statesville and formerly of Taylorsville, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Monday, December 19, 2005. She was born in Iredell County May 4, 1938, the daughter of the late Johnnie “Buster” Minton and Gladys Minton. She was a loving and selfless wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a graduate of Stony Point High School and earned a degree from Queen's College in Charlotte. Choosing family over career, she devoted many years to rearing her children before re-entering the workforce. Mrs. Fox retired from Amesbury Industries in 2004 and was a life-long member of Stony Point Tabernacle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Mike Dagenhart. Left to cherish the memories of her life are her loving and devoted husband and best friend of over fifty-four years, Flake Fox of the home; a daughter, Barbara Fox Dagenhart Chapman and husband Craig of Statesville; a son, Terry Fox and wife Sheila of Stony Point; a son, Kevin Fox and wife Jennifer of Winston-Salem; and six grandchildren, Heather Dagenhart, Zachary Chap-man, Shaun, Amber and Justin Fox, and Brooklyn Fox; and one great-grandson, Landon Fox. She is also survived by three brothers, James "Sonny" Minton and Margie, Jerry Minton and wife Norma, and Billy Minton. A service honoring her life with family and friends will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2005, at Stony Point Tabernacle in Stony Point with Pastor Chuck Hager of New Beginnings Christian Fellowship and the Reverend Wes Hammer of Stony Point Tabernacle officiating. The body will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association of North Carolina, 3801 Lake Boone Trail, Ste., 190, Raleigh, NC 27607 (www.lungnc.org) or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Pamela Gowings Meade, age 38, of Taylorsville, went home to be with Jesus Friday, January 6, 2006, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham. She was born in Catawba County April 11, 1967, the daughter of Billy Jackson Gowings and Ruby Trivette Gowings of Hiddenite. She was a member of East Taylorsville Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, was a member of the F.A.I.T.H. Team, AWANA, and was also in Discipleship Training Classes. After graduating from Appalachian State University, she taught at Sugar Loaf, Taylorsville, and Hiddenite Elementary Schools. Named 2000 Teacher of the Year for the Alexander County Schools, Mrs. Meade was a tutor and conducted writing workshops for elementary children. In addition, she participated in summer day camps as well as in the Character Club for Alexander County Schools and in the Servant Club for elementary students during summer vacation. She was preceded in death by an infant brother; one sister, Kim Gowings; and her paternal and maternal grandparents. In addition to her parents, loved ones left to cherish her memory include her husband, best friend, and soulmate, Chris Meade of Taylorsville; two children, Braxton Joseph Meade and Chloe Elizabeth Meade of the home; one sister, Amy Gowings Johnson and husband Rentz of Conover; two nephews, Cooper and Chandler Johnson; a brother-in-law, Sam Meade and wife Robin of Hickory; two nieces, Megan and Victoria Meade of Hickory; mother-in-law, Linda Wright of Hickory; and hundreds of students and Alexander County school employees whose lives were touched by her compassion and amazing way with children. Funeral services were conducted Monday, January 9, 2006, at East Taylorsville Baptist Church with Rev. Craig Hamlin, Rev. Jamie Steele, and Rev. Gary Jennings officiating. Burial followed in the Taylorsville City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, c/o East Taylorsville Baptist Church, P.O. Box 906, Taylorsville, NC 28681. Charles Aaron Jolly, age 84, of Hopewell Church Road, Hiddenite, passed away Monday, January 9, 2006, at Davis Regional Medical Center in Statesville. He was born in Iredell County November 3, 1921, the son of the late Stamey Jolly and Katie Carson Jolly. He was a lifelong member of Rocky Hill Baptist Church in Statesville. After twenty-five years of service, he retired as Assistant Superintendent of the Iredell Unit of the N.C. Department of Correction. A veteran of World War II, he served under the command of General George Patton, Company D, 17th Engineer Battalion, 2nd Armored Division. He participated in several major battles including Normandy, Rhineland, Sicily, Ardennes, Central Europe, and Northern France. Mr. Jolly was an active member of V.F.W. Post 10,000 of Hiddenite. As a Mason, he served as master of the Snow Creek Lodge under the jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of North Carolina. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Aileen Millsaps Jolly, and a brother, R.S. Jolly. Survivors include a son, Steve Jolly and fiancé Susan Cook of Hiddenite; three daughters, Kaye Jolly Putnam and husband Gene of Kings Mountain, Gail Jolly Hubbard and husband Gene of Taylorsville, and Renee Jolly Williams and husband David of Hiddenite; six grandchildren, Dan Jolly, Kim Jolly Manuel and husband Jeffrey, Beth Jolly Ward and husband Tony, Ben Jolly, Chad Hubbard, and Charles Odom; two great-granddaughters, Brianna and Lily Ward; a great-grandson, Justin Simmons; three brothers, Buddy Jolly, Atwell Jolly and Harry Jolly, all of Hiddenite; five sisters, Ethelene Campbell of Hiddenite, Geneva Bunton, Sue Carter and Elna Campbell, all of Statesville, and Emma Lou McCall of Salisbury; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at Rocky Hill Baptist Church in Statesville at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2006, with Rev. Henry Cook and Rev. Ervel Jones officiating. The body will lie in state at the church thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by V.F.W. Post 10,000 and V.F.W. Post 5466. Masonic rites will be provided by the Snow Creek Masonic Lodge. Pallbearers include Mr. Jolly’s grandsons, Dan Jolly, Ben Jolly, Chad Hubbard, and Charles Odom, and nephews, Todd Carter and Rodney Jolly. Memorials may be given to Hospice of Alexander County, 50 Lucy Echerd Lane, Taylorsville, N.C. 28681. Notes of sympathy may be e-mailed to the Jolly family at adamsfuneralhome@charter.net.
