BEVERLY H. APGAR 1949 - 2003
Beverly H. Apgar of Ithaca, New York died Wednesday, April 23, 2003 in Ithaca
Born July 30, 1949 in Plainfield, New Jersey, Beverly was the daughter of
Donald and Dorothy (nee Toms) Apgar, who currently reside in Auburn, NY.
In addition to her parents, Beverly is survived by her sister Bonnie (Bruce)
Bennett of Aurora, NY, her brother Donald (Lynn)Apgar of Nesconset, NY, her
nieces Ashley and Blair Apgar and Millicent Bennett and her nephew Evan Bennett
and numerous close friends. Her friends and family were always in her thoughts
and she showed it in her kindness and thoughtfulness to others.
Beverly was the owner of Angelheart of Ithaca on The Commons and was an active
leader in The Downtown Ithaca Partnership. Beverly was the president of The
Downtown Ithaca, Inc., which later became the Downtown Ithaca Partnership. She
was a board member and also had served as secretary. She also served on the
Commons Advisory Board, was a coordinator of the wreath auction, was
instrumental in starting the first two hour free parking program and the
Banners Up Program.
Services will be held Monday, 9:00am at The Unitarian Church of Ithaca, 306
North Aurora Street, Ithaca. Interment will be private. The family will
receive friends at The Lansing Funeral Home, Inc. 32 Auburn Road, Lansing on
Sunday, between the hours of 3:00pm and 5:00pm. (

Norman White Boynton, age 88 of 205 Tareyton Drive, Ithaca died at 10:20pm,
Tuesday evening at the Reconstruction Home in Ithaca, NY.
Born in Cortland, New York on November 18, 1915, he was the son of the late
Howard G. and Grace White Boynton. On February 4, 1951, he married the former
Rose Reale in Bayonne, New Jersey. Mr. Boynton was an Auditor for New York
State Electric and Gas Company, Ithaca, NY.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Boynton is survived by one son Robert Boynton of
Staten Island, New York.
Mr. Boynton has been cremated and his family will be holding private funeral
services in the future. His cremated remains will be buried in Pleasant Grove
Cemetery, Ithaca, New York.

CLYDE E. TEETER, JR. 1924 - 2003
Mr. Clyde E. Teeter, Jr., 78 of 1285 Ridge Road, Lansing, New York died at
5:52am, Monday, June 9, 2003 at his residence.
Mr. Teeter was born on Asbury Road in Lansing on October 29, 1924, a son of the
late Clyde E. Sr. and Ethel (nee Teeter) Teeter. He served his country during
WW II in The United States Army with the transportation corps in The CBI
Theater and received an honorable discharge February 20, 1946. He then became
a self-employed carpenter and retired from Ithaca College in June of 1987. Mr.
Teeter was a life member of The VFW, Post 1975, Auburn, life member of the
Lansingville Fire Company, a life member of The Lansing Rod and Gun Club and
the Lansing Lodge # 774 F&AM.
Survivors include his wife Ruth (nee McCormick) of Lansing, his son, Major
William (Sharon) Teeter of Enterprise, AL., his brother, Leighton Teeter of
Macedon, NY, his sisters, Betty Taylor of Utica, Evelyn Jonas of Ithaca, his
grandchildren Penny (Steve) Rogers of Lansing, Shane Teeter of Encino, CA.
Scott Teeter of Orlando, FL., Michael Green of Enterprise, AL., his great
grandchildren Megan and Philip Rogers and Alexandria Teeter, several nieces and
Funeral services will be Thursday, 2:00pm at The Lansing Funeral Home, Inc.
Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Ithaca. The family will receive
friends on Wednesday, between the hours of 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the funeral home,
32 Auburn Road, Lansing, NY. (

JOHN F. KELLY 1962 - 2003
John F. Kelly, 41 of 191 East Lansing Road, Groton, New York died suddenly
today, June 13, 2003 at 7:46am.
Born April 19, 1962 in Staten Island, NY he was the son of the late John T.
Kelly and Teresa (nee Santi) Kelly of Locke. John was a self employed carpenter
and recently worked with T and T Construction of Ithaca. His interests included
woodworking, gardening, nature and most importantly, time with his daughters.
In addition to his Mother, survivors include his wife Maureen (nee Miller) of
Groton, his daughters Kathleen, Colleen and Jennifer, brothers Robert, Matthew,
Christopher, Michael; sisters Theresa O’Brien, Geraldine McDonough, Mary Jane
Seamans, Patricia Shevlin, several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be Tuesday, 11:30am at All Saints R. C. Church, 347 Ridge
Road, Lansing. The family will receive friends at The Lansing Funeral
Home,Inc., 32 Auburn Road, Lansing on Monday, between the hours of
2-4 and 7-9pm.
Interment in North Lansing Cemetery will be private.
Contributions in memory of John may be directed to an Educational Trust Fund,
being established for his daughters, C/O Mr. Rich Dolge, Tompkins County Trust
Company, The Commons, Ithaca, New York 14850.

Mildred L Miller, 79 of 194 East Miller Road, Ithaca, NY died Tuesday morning,
June 19, 2001 at Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca, NY.
Born May 13, 1922 in Candor, New York, she was the daughter of the late George
and Hazel Smith Cowles.
Mrs. Miller was a former Town Supervisor for the Town of Danby and had also
served as Town Clerk for a number of years. She was employed as a bookkeeper
for Speno Ballest of Ithaca, New York and for several other local businesses.
She was a member of The American Legion Ladies Auxillary, Ithaca Post # 221 and
Candor Post # 907.
Funeral services will be Saturday 11:00am at The Danby Federated Church, 1859
Danby Road, Ithaca, NY. Rev. Charles Hakes will officitae. Private interment
will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Candor, New York. The family will receive
friends at THE LANSING FUNERAL HOME, INC, 32 Auburn Road, Lansing on Friday,
June 22, 2001, between the hours of 4:00pm and 7:00pm.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Strong of Ithaca, NY, Jane Kennedy of
Ellettsville, IN., two sons, Sanford "Butch" (Gloria) Miller of Ithaca and
Brian Miller of Ithaca, one brother, Richard (Edith) Cowles of Auburn, NY, 9
grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Memorial may be directed to The Danby Federated Church, 1859 Danby Road,
Ithaca, NY 14850.

GUSTAV H. KOPP 1914 - 2003
Gustav (Gus) H. Kopp, 88, passed away quietly at his home in the presence of
loved ones on June 24, 2003. His family wishes to thank Dr. Michael Goodfriend
and Ithaca Cardiology Associates, Dr. Robert Kaplan and his staff, and also the
staff of Hospicare for the wonderful loving care given to him and his family
during his lengthy illness. Thanks also to The Lansing Funeral Home, Inc. for
their kind and friendly assistance.
Gus was born August 5, 1914 in Dolgeville, NY, son of the late Frederick and
Marie (Burschkat) Kopp.
Gus was married to Gertrude (Trudy) Bowers in Christ Lutheran Church in Little
Falls, NY on November 6, 1948. He was a very loving and devoted husband, father
and grandfather.
Gus graduated from the Dolgeville Central High School and received an Associate
Degree in Agriculture from the SUNY Agriculture and Technical Institute at
Morrisville, NY. He was inducted into the Armed Forces on April 23, 1942,
serving as an MP for two and one half years, attending the MP Military
Occupational Government School in Fort Custer, Michigan, and the Medical Corps
Surgical Technical School in El Paso, TX. He was then sent to Italy to join the
1st Armored Medical Battalion. At wars' end, he served with the occupational
forces in Germany, returning to the States January 29, 1946. He was honorably
discharged with the rank of Staff Sgt. on February 4, 1946.
Gus held a couple of positions before going into partnership in a feed store in
Kreamer, PA. After dissolving his partnership, he was employed in the Poultry
Department of Cornell University, serving for many years as Farm Manager of
their Poultry Experimental Station in Horseheads, NY. He retired from Cornell
in August of 1976.
Besides his wife, Trudy, Gus is survived by a son, Frederick and his wife Linda
of Pittsford, NY; and a daughter, Jacquelyn and her husband David of
Clarksburg, MD; granddaughters, Kristin Kopp, Katherine, Sarah, Laura and Emily
Cromer; and grandson, Erik Kopp; brothers, Alfred and his wife Nellie of
Charleston, SC; brother, Walter and his wife Ingeborg of Liverpool, NY; sisters-
in-law, Cornelia Kopp of Reading Center, NY, Minnie Bowers of Lansing, NY,
Eleanor Hicks of Nesconset, NY; and several nieces and nephews. He was
predeceased by a brother, Arthur of Reading Center; and brother-in-law, Howard
Hicks of Nosconset.
Gus was a past president and member of The Lansing Lions Club and a current
member of The Lansing Senior Citizens. He was also a member of The St. Luke
Lutheran Church, 109 Oak Ave., Ithaca, where funeral services will be led by
The Rev. Rick Bair, on Saturday, June 28, at 11 a.m. assisted by Gus' brother,
The Rev. Walter R. Kopp, nephew, The Rev. Frederick W. Kopp, with The
Remembering by niece, Lois Kopp Daniels.
Funeral arrangements are being made by The Lansing Funeral Home, 32 Auburn Rd.,
Lansing, NY. Calling hours are on Friday, June 27, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Gus will be laid to rest in The Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Ithaca, NY. Anyone
wishing to make a contribution in Gus' memory may do so to the Building Fund of
St. Luke Lutheran Church, 109 Oak Ave., Ithaca, NY 14850, or Hospicare, 172
East King Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850.

INGER R. BESMAN 1946 - 2003
Newfield: Inger R. Besman, 57 of Van Buskirk Gulf Road, Newfield, N.Y. died
at 11:02am, Monday, July 14, 2003 at Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca.
A native of Stockholm, Sweden, Inger was born on February 19, 1946, a daughter
of the late Ragnar and Dagmar Agre. She was the widow of Bernard Besman who
died in 1976 and the mother of Daniel Claudius Besman who died in 1988. Inger
was healer; employed as a Trager Therapist; was a botanical watercolor artist
and enjoyed knitting.
Survivors include her daughter Oona Channa Besman (Tam Welch) of Santa Cruz,
CA., her son Tolak (Kelly) Besman of West Hartford, CT. her brother Johan
(Tony) Dahl of Sacramento, CA., her sister Gunvar Agre of Stockholm, Sweden,
her grandsons Zachary and Kaj Agre Besman, several aunts uncles and cousins in
Services will be Saturday, 11:00am at The Foundation of Light, 391 Turkey Hill
Road, Ithaca. There are no calling hours. Interment in Union Cemetery, Ovid
will be private.
Contributions in memory of Inger may be directed to The Inger Besman Memorial
Fund, C/O Paul Wagner, Esq., 1405 Hanshaw Road, Ithaca, NY 14850; to be used to
benefit hepatitis survivors in the Ithaca Community.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of The Lansing Funeral Home, Inc.,
32 Auburn Road, Lansing, NY.

Eleanor Muckstadt, 90 of 340 Bella Vista Drive, Ithaca died at 12:15am,
Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at The Reconstruction Home, Ithaca.
Funeral services will be Saturday, 1:00pm at St. John's Lutheran Church, 800
East Ridge Road, Rochester, New York. Entombment will follow in Riverside
Cemetery, Rochester. No public calling hours are scheduled.
Memorials are directed to the Church Memorial Fund, 800 East Ridge Road,
Rochester, New York 14621.
Survivors include her son John (Linda) Muckstadt of Lansing, four grandchildren
and six great grandchildren.

Rose Reale Boynton, 84 of 205 Tareyton Drive, Ithaca, New York died at 8:28pm,
Monday evening, August 4, 2003 at Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.

JOHN J. BARNES 1944 - 2003
John Barnes of 42 Algerine Road, Lansing, New York died suddenly at 1:47pm,
Monday afternoon, August 4, 2003 at Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Margaret Myers Mc Elwee, 82 of 1481 East Shore Drive, Ithaca, NY died at
9:45pm, Friday evening, August 8, 2003 at her residence. Her family was at her
side. Peggy had been in gradually failing health for a long time, however, she
was very strong until her very last day. On Thursday evening, Mrs. Mc Elwee,
still very strong, spent time with her daughter discussing her final wishes.
Her first thought was to express her gratitude for the life she lived and how
lucky she felt for the love she was surrounded by. A remarkable woman, who
faced the end of her earthly life with grace and dignity, provided her family
with the gift of allowing her to leave them without the anxiety of separation,
as she did not fear her departure.
Born November 21, 1920 in Ithaca, New York, she was the daughter of the late
William I. and Marguerite Troxell Myers. In 1940, she received her BA in Home
Economics from Cornell University and in 1941, received her Masters degree in
Economics from the University of Vermont. On August 1, 1942, she married
Raymond F. McElwee. Mr. Mc Elwee died on May 10, 1995 at his home in Ithaca.
Mrs. McElwee worked closely with her husband, in the accounting department;
operating W.D. McElwee and Sons Construction Company that subsequently became
Mc Elwee Construction. An active community member, Mrs. McElwee was a former
Girl Scout Leader, involved with cookie sales for more than ten years. She also
was involved in the local school systems, working as an Aide for the Cayuga
Heights Schools. Mrs. Mc Elwee was involved in the PTA’s at Cayuga Heights
School, Boynton Junior High and the Ithaca High School. She was a founder of
The Fair and Book Fair that grew into what is now known as The Friends of the
Library book sale. She served two terms as a Trustee for both the Village of
Cayuga Heights and the Town of Lansing. During this time, she was involved in
zoning and planning and the Intermunicipal Water Commission at Bolton Point.
Peggy wrote curricula for the League of Women Voters. She often would deliver
meals to those in need as part of her membership at The First Presbyterian
Church of Ithaca, where she served as a Deacon for many years. “She was
director of Marketing and Distribution for the W. I. Myers Vegetable Garden.
She was a former president of The American Association of University Women.
The Mc Elwee family had been members of The Country Club of Ithaca since 1947,
where they enjoyed golf and special friendships.
Survivors include her daughter Patricia R. Mc Elwee of Ithaca, her sisters,
Marian Kira of Ithaca, Elizabeth Slutz of Cincinnati, OH, her granddaughter
Kerry (Robert) Mc Elwee of Oak Orchard, DE, several nieces and nephews. In
addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter Sue McElwee
who died on August 2, 1970.
Services will be Wednesday, 11:00am at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 402
North Aurora Street, Ithaca (due to renovations at The First Presbyterian
Church). Interment in Lakeview Cemetery will occur prior to the service and
will be private. The family will receive friends today, between the hours of
4:00pm and 7:00pm at their residence, 1481 East Shore Drive, Ithaca.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of The Lansing Funeral Home, Inc.,
32 Auburn Road, Lansing

OLIVIA ABELSON 1911 - 2003
Olivia Abelson, 92 of 421 Savage Farm Drive, Ithaca died at 11:52pm, Monday
evening, August 18, 2003 at Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.

KING FERRY - Audrey Givens Doyle, of 840 Clearview Road, died Saturday, August
30, 2003, at the family cottage at King Ferry Station.
Mrs. Doyle was born in New Salem, NY, on October 18, 1917, and she graduated
from Groton High School in 1936. She married Eugene Doyle on June 29, 1940, and
settled in Groton, where she raised her family and worked at Groton Elementary
School, retiring in 1978. She and Gene spent winters in Port St. Lucie, FL, and
summers on Cayuga Lake - a perfect mix.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Gene Doyle and two daughters,
Connie Tavelli (Paul) and Anne Renwick (Alan), all of Ithaca. She was a loving
and devoted grandmother to Katherine and Fiona Renwick, of Ithaca, Tara Tavelli-
Brownell, of Ithaca, and Matt Tavelli, of Honolulu, HI. Audrey was a life long
member of the OES Hudson Fulton Chapter #465 in Groton.
In keeping with Audrey's wishes, no public calling hours have been scheduled.
There will be a memorial service for friends and family at 4 p.m. on Tuesday,
September 2, 2003, at Lansing Funeral Home, 32 Auburn Road, Lansing, NY. In
lieu of flowers, memorials in Audrey's name may be directed to the King Ferry
Fire and Rescue, King Ferry, NY, 13081.
