Edward Osborne, Jr. Bates"
Age 53 of Wilmington, DE passed away in the VA Hospital Saturday, March 27, 2004.
Mr. Osborne "Butch" was born in Wilmington, DE to Edward Osborne, Sr. and the late Lillian M. Osborne.
He was a 1968 graduate of P.S. duPont High School, later joined the U.S. Marines and served in the Vietnam War, receiving many honors.
He was an active member of Bethel A.M.E. Church.
In addition to his father, he is survived by 2 children, Nikolle Wisdom and Shannon Osborne, both of Wilmington; 3 brothers, Samuel Bates of Wilmington, James Bates of Hockessin and Ronald Osborne of Marietta, GA; 4 sisters, Helen Barnes of Richmond, VA, Josephine Rollins of Baltimore, MD, Flora Pleasant of Newark and Renee Osborne of Decatur, GA; and 5 grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 11 am on Friday, April 2, 2004, at St. Mary's Church, 4201 Washington St., Wilmington, where friends may call from 9-11 am.
Interment will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Park, Bear.

Mrs. Pagan is survived by 3 daughters, Carmen Daisy Roman, Aixa Roman, Elizabeth Roman; and 3 sons, Luis M., Juan Alberto and Juan Roman. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; a brother; and 3 sisters.

Mrs. Quirk was a homemaker.

Age 26 of Wilmington, DE passed away suddenly on Monday, March 29, 2004, at his home.
Walt attended Delcastle High School and was a plumbers apprentice.
He was a good-hearted person and friend to many. He will be missed by all his cousins, family and friends.
Walt is survived by his mother, Linda F. Lightcap; his father and stepmother, Jason and Debra Raposa; his fianc‚e and soulmate, Rebecca Santore; brother, John Raposa; and sister, Tina Raposa.

Preceded in death by her first husband, Edgar Leo Price, she is survived by her husband, Waldemar Schubert, of Aiken, SC; daughter, Barbara Ann Atkinson, of Wilmington, DE; son, Charles Edgar Price and Linda Emery, of Colonial Heights, VA; a brother, William Harrison Vaughan and his wife, Mary Marshall, of Dinwiddie County, VA; grandson, Charles Stephen Bart Mitchell of Big Sky, MT; and granddaughter, Karen Suzanne Price of Dinwiddie, VA.

Francis Eugene Kelly, Sr.
Age 78, of Mendenhall, PA, passed away on Sunday, April 18, 2004 at Chester County Hospital.
He was the loving husband of Jane M. McLaverty Kelly, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage.
Born in Villanova, PA, he was the son of the late Owen and Sophia McCusker Kelly.
Francis was a technical sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 79th Division, 313th Infantry, and he participated in the D-Day invasion at Normandy.
He was a 1950 graduate of the University of Wyoming.
Francis retired from the Finance Department with DuPont in 1984 after 31 years of service.
He was a member of St. Patrick Church, Kennett Square, PA, the DuPont Country Club and the Defiance A.A. Club.
A long distance runner, Frank was a veteran of many marathons over the years.
He was the loving father of 3 sons and 3 daughter, Francis E. Kelly, Jr., and wife, Holly, of Ottsville, PA, Albert R. Kelly, Sr., and wife, Marjorie, of Wilmington, DE, Owen J. Kelly, and wife, Sloane, of San Antonio, TX and Deirdre J. Doyle, and husband, Joseph E. III of Hatfield, PA.
He was the loving grandfather of 7 grandchildren, Bridget, Owen, Albert Jr., Colin, Ryan, Gavin and Katherine.
He is also survived 3 brothers, Joseph Kelly of West Chester, Richard Kelly of Bryn Mawr, PA and Honorable Robert Kelly of Villanova, PA.
He was predeceased by 1 sister, Jean Behan; and by 1 brother, Kent Kelly.

Robert Franklin Burford
Of Wilmington, DE died May 31, 2004 at the Wilmington Hospital after a long illness.
In the early 1950s, Robert was employed as the advertising sales director and editor of New Story magazine based in New York City, NY and Paris.
He was chief administrative assistant in the U.S. Foreign Service at the American Embassy in Paris, France.
He also served in the U.S. Navy as a cadet pilot and staff officer in the U.S. Maritime Service.
From 1955-1962, he established The Allied Development Corporation as one of the leading companies serving NATO installations for Canadian and American Bases. Later, Robert worked as assistant director and editor of Protter Editorial Services in New York City, NY from 1963 until his retirement.
Robert was highly educated, having attended the University of Denver, the University of Paris, and Oxford University.
Robert, formerly of Denver, CO, is survived by his wife, Paulina Meeds Burford; 2 daughters, Jennifer Lou and Leslie Jane Burford; his brother, Louis William Burford of San Jose, CA; 3 stepdaughters, Renee Shettle of Pocomoke, MD, Caroline Wellford of Steamboat Springs, CO and Polly Myers of Morretown, VT; and stepson, Daniel Wellford of Bethel, VT.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Beverly De Berard, Sue Crosby and Kay Cooper; and his son, Jeffrey Burford.
A memorial service will be held at 9:30 am on Saturday, June 5, 2004, at Immanuel Church Highlands, Riverview and 17th Sts., Wilmington.
Burial will be held privately.

Laura Anne Govatos
Age 31 of Wilmington, DE was born on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 1973, and died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, after a brief illness.
A graduate of Brandywine High School, Laura graduated cum laude with a BA degree from Wilmington College, working her way through school as day manager of the Ronald McDonald House, a job that endeared her to countless children and families.
At the time of her death, she was employed by the duPont Hospital for Children, supporting Dr. Will Mackenzie's practice by coordinating care and services for patients and their families.
Laura had an extraordinary gift to sustain children and families with special health needs.
She loved life and was a genuine caregiver.
Laura loved all animals, especially cats, and was delighted by ladybugs and leprechauns.
She loved art, music, painting, parties and holidays, especially Halloween.
Everything Laura touched, she made beautiful.
While she had not yet become a mother, she mothered all she loved.
The only thing more beautiful than Laura was her smile and her incredible sense of humor.
She made people laugh and love life.

Vaughn Huntington Hill
Age 91, formerly of McDaniel Crest, Wilmington, DE, died June 1, 2004 in Kendal of Longwood, Kennett Square, PA.
Originally from Lansing, MI, Mr. Hill received a BS degree in mechanical engineering from Michigan State University.
He had further education in acoustical engineering at MIT and was a leader in the field of industrial noise control.
In MI he worked for Motor Wheel Corp., where he developed several patents in combustion.
From 1951-1978, he was a noise control consultant for the DuPont Company.
He served on the U.S. Department of Labor Advisory Committee, developing standards for industrial noise control. As chairman of the AIHA Technical Committee on Noise (1969-1975), he directed the publishing of the Industrial Noise Manual. Mr. Hill was an active member of Aldersgate UMC since 1951, serving as choral director in its early years.
An avid musician, he played trombone and baritone in several orchestras, bands, and brass ensembles.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Louise Hogan, in 1996.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Ellen Hill; daughter, Kathleen Snyder of Newark, DE; son, Everett Hill of Lebanon, NJ; sister, Ruth Fletcher of Lansing, MI; 5 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 7, 2004, at 3 pm at Aldersgate United Methodist Church.

Phyllis A. Koch
Phyllis A. Koch, a longtime resident of the Cooch's Bridge area of Newark, DE, died June 1, 2004 at the VNA Hospice at St. Luke's in Fountain Hill, PA.
Raised in East Greenville, Montgomery County, PA, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Ruth (Keyser) Herbein.
In 1961, she moved to DE after her marriage to Richard, a widely known DE educator and civic leader, who came to DE in 1951 and died in 1995.
As a secretary, she worked for Air Products & Chemicals, Ethan Allen Inc., the Democratic Caucus of the Delaware House of Representatives as a legal secretary, and from 1988-1998, was the executive secretary to the vice-president and director of the Delaware Technical & Community College's Wilmington Campus.
She served the DE Democratic Party as a committee person for 25 years and was elected secretary of the New Castle County Democratic Committee, serving from 1989-1993.
Phyllis was the secretary of the Delaware Retired School Personnel Association from 2002-2003.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Newark.
Almost a 100% descendant of 18th-century German immigrants to PA, Phyllis was very proud of her PA German roots, which were deep in Berks and Montgomery Counties.
Her hobbies included gardening, travel, music and genealogy.
Last but not least, she treasured her many, many friends.
Known for her infectious smile, she truly enjoyed people from all walks of life and cultures.
She had a skill for making people feel at ease.
Her joy in recent years was e-mail contact with family and friends.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan of Boca Raton, FL; son, Richard Jr. of Tinton Falls, NJ; brother, Daniel Herbein and his wife, Maxine; and sister-in-law, Janet Mills and her husband, Tom, all of Bethlehem, PA; and brothers-in-law, Carl Koch and his wife, Nancy, of Wilmington, DE and George Koch of Hawthorne, CA.
She is also survived by her aunt and uncle, Glenna and Claude Wolford of Gilbertsville, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be a memorial service at 3 pm on Saturday, June 5, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, S. College Ave. in Newark.
Phyllis believed flowers were for the living.

Age 46 of Kissimmee, FL, formerly of Newark, DE, died May 23, 2004 in FL.
Philip was born July 4, 1957 in Wilmington, DE to June M. Lutz and the late Bruce C. Lutz. He graduated from Newark High School and after attending the University of Delaware, joined the U.S. Navy in 1980 and served 20 years in the submarine corps as a first class petty officer on the USS Henry Jackson and the USS Florida. Philip also served as an instructor at the Naval Nuclear Power School in Orlando, FL. He was presently employed as an administrative assistant at Gatorland in FL.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 24 years, Dorothy Knight Lutz; daughters, Alexis and her husband Jorge Rodriquez, and Stephanie; son, Zachary; and grandson, Zachary Rodriguez, all of Kissimmee, FL.
He is also survived by his brother, Peter J. Lutz of Elkton, MD; sister, Debra Knight of Newark, DE; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at the Conrad & Thompson Funeral Home in Kissimmee, FL on Thursday, May 27.

Age 81 of Bear, DE, formerly of Luther Towers in Wilmington, passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Christiana Hospital.
Della was born in Wilmington to the late Earl and Frieda (Sea-burg) Clifton.
She was a member of the ladies auxiliary of the Christiana Fire Company.
Her husband, Frederick J. Rentz, Jr., passed away August 24, 1969. Della is survived by 3 sons, Fred Rentz and his wife, Janet, of Bear, Bill Rentz and his wife, Colleen, of Bear and Bob Rentz and his wife, Julie, of Fayetteville, GA.

Jon was born November 2, 1944 in Minneapolis, MN, graduated from George School in Bucks County, PA in 1962 and the University of Delaware in 1971. Among his many interests he enjoyed fine food, music, fishing, classic cars and gardening, and he was also an avid railfan.
He is survived by his 3 children, Jason, Ethan and Aimee; a brother, Christopher; 2 sisters, Karen and Victoria; his companion of 10 years, Judith Mitchell; 3 nieces; and 1 nephew.

Philip Tyler Staelin
Age 35 of Georgetown, MD died May 31, 2004 after a 3-year battle with cancer.
Tyler graduated from Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, MA and from Washington College in Chestertown, MD.
Until the last months of his life, Tyler was production manager for Contemporary Woodcrafts of Springfield, VA.
Prior to that, he worked for Sherman and Gosweiler Fine Cabinetry of Bridgeport, PA.
An avid boater and golfer, Tyler worked for many years during high school and college for both Georgetown Yacht Basin and Sailing Associates in the Georgetown Harbor.
Tyler is survived by his mother, Charlotte Dennett Staelin of Georgetown, MD and Arlington, VA; and his father and stepmother, Charles Philip Staelin, and Karen Golding Staelin of Northampton, MA.
He is also survived by his sisters, Justine Staelin-Lefsky of Fort Collins, CO and Hannah Rosemary Staelin of Boston, MA; his step-brother, Henry Ansbacher of Denver, CO; his stepsisters, Kate, Meredith and Neile Golding, all of Northhampton, MA; as well as 8 nieces and nephews.

John F. Stocki
Age 84 of Brandywine Hundred passed away Monday, May 31, 2004, in the Select Specialty Hospital on 7th & Clayton Streets in Wilmington, DE.
Mr. Stocki had retired from ICI as director of purchasing.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Estelle Anderson Stocki; his son, John F. Stocki II; and his daughter, Karen S. Miller.
He is also survived by 2 brothers, Bill J. and Robert A. Stocki; and 4 grandchildren, Jenna and Adrienne Miller and Kimberly and Melissa Stocki.
The service and interment will be held privately.

Lamar D. Tribbett
Age 20 passed away suddenly May 23, 2004.

Thomas Scott Lodge
Retired senior partner of the Connolly, Bove, Lodge & Hutz law firm in Wilmington, DE died in his home in New Castle, DE June 23, 2004 at the age of 86. He joined the firm in 1954, and earlier this year celebrated 50 years of membership in the Delaware Bar Association.
Mr. Lodge was born and raised in Lewes, DE.
He graduated from the Beacom (now Goldey Beacom College) Business College in Wilmington before enlisting in the Delaware National Guard in September 1940, 2 days after the Guard was federalized prior to American involvement in World War II.
He initially served in the South Pacific, primarily on the island of Bora Bora, as an enlisted man, attended officers' candidate school, and subsequently served as an anti-aircraft artillery officer in the European theatre in North Africa, Sicily and France. He remained active in organizing annual reunions of his military units until last year.
Following the war, Mr. Lodge enrolled in the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA, where he received both his undergraduate and law school degrees.
He returned to Wilmington in 1951 and served as a clerk in the U.S. District Court before joining the law firm.
He also rejoined the Delaware National Guard, serving for another 20 years until his retirement with the rank of colonel.
In addition to his distinguished legal career and military service, Mr. Lodge was extensively engaged in a wide variety of community service and charity activities.
He was a faithful member of the New Castle United Methodist Church, singing in the church choir for over 50 years, and serving on numerous church boards and committees.
He served as secretary of The Laffey-McHugh Foundation.
He was a member of the board of trustees of Widener University and was instrumental in the establishment and accreditation of the Delaware Law School at the University's Chester, PA campus, where he delivered the commencement address and received an honorary Doctor of Law degree in 1992.
He also served on the boards of Salesianum School in Wilmington, the Sunday Breakfast Mission in Wilmington, and the Delaware Division of the American Cancer Society.
He served for many years as a member of the New Castle County Board of Elections and of the Eagle Advancement Board of the Boy Scouts of America local Three Rivers District.
Mr. Lodge's wife of 50 years, Doris Haden Lodge, died in 1997.
He is survived by their 5 children, Scott Lodge of Centreville, VA, David Lodge of Sterling, VA, and Jean Lodge Blumenfeld, Gail Lodge and Martha Lodge Helojoki, all of Wilmington; 11 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.
He is also survived by his sisters, Catherine Riniker and Virginia L. Brittingham, both of Lewes, DE.
A private family burial will be held at the family gravesite in Bethel Methodist Cemetery in Lewes, DE.
A memorial service celebrating Mr. Lodge's life will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, July 3, 2004, at the New Castle United Methodist Church, 510 Delaware St., New Castle, DE 19720.
The family requests that donations may be made to the New Castle United Methodist Church's new organ fund; or to the Sunday Breakfast Mission, 110 N. Poplar St., Wilmington, DE 19801.

Lucille Anderson
Lucille Viola Anderson went home to be with the Lord on July 29, 2004 at the age of 88. She was the daughter of the late, William and Sarah Taylor. Her husband of 46 years, Holstein Anderson, preceded her in death on July 29, 1980.
She was a former member of Star of Bethlem AUMP Church and Alpha Baptist Church of Newport, DE, where she served as a deaconess, a member of the missionary board, and president of the pastor's aide.
Mrs. Anderson was a loving and devoted mother of 12 children. She is survived by 9 sons, Holstein, Jr., Sylvester C., Ernest L., Earl W., Albert T., Roland C., Gary V., Anthony E. and Wayne G.; and 3 daughters, Doris L. Joyner, Arvella C. Robinson and Catherine M. Anderson; 1 stepdaughter, Theresa O. Wilks; 2 sisters, Bertha Pierce and Dorothy Campher; 28 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased in death by 3 grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be held at Simpson United Methodist Church, 907 Centerville Road, Wilmington at 11 am on Wednesday, August 4, 2004. Viewing will be at the church from 9 to 11. Interment in Gracelawn Memorial Park. Arr. by CONGO FUNERAL HOME

Francisco Burgos Sr. "Sico"
Age 71 of Wilmington died Monday August 2, 2004 at the home of his daughter.
"Sico" was born August 19, 1932 in Mariana, Humacao, Puerto Rico and came to the United States in 1952.
Francisco worked for 38 years at the B.F. Rich Company, retiring after becoming ill and Star Janitorial for over 20 years.
He was an active member of St. Paul's Catholic Church.
He was a devoted father and husband.
He loved playing dominoes with friends and son in laws.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gabino and Eusebia Burgos; his sister Sara; and his brothers, Andres, Nicholas and Felipe Burgos; and his grandchildren Alex Baez and Jason Beltran. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Paulina "Nole" Burgos; 11 children, Carmen and Felix Beltran of Wilmington, Andrea and Miguel Santiago of Wilmington, Ruperto Burgos and his fianc‚ Maribel Rosa of Orlando, Florida, Celia and Francisco Baez of Wilmington, Luz and Luis Rivera of Wilmington, Nilda Burgos of Wilmington, Jose and Pam Burgos of Newark, David and Denisse Burgos of Elkton, Maryland, Andre Burgos and Deborah of Maryland, Franciso Jr. and Anin Burgos of Mullica Hill, New Jersey and Sylvia Balbuena of Elsmere; 29 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Rosa of Wilmington; and his brother Juan of Wilmington, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Burgos would like to thank the doctors, nurses and aides at St. Francis Hospital, 4th and 7th floors, St. Francis Home Care, Maximus, the Department of Aging and Heartland Hospice for all their care.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday morning at 11 am at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 1010 W. 4th Street, Wilmington.
Burial will be in Cathedral Cemetery.
Friends may call at the CORLETO-LATINA FUNERAL HOME, 808 N. Union Street, Wilmington 7-9 pm on Thursday evening.
