Obituaries for September 04, 2002

Barzie Drewry
Barzie Drewry of Galt passed away at home of natural causes on Aug. 27. He was 86.
He was born in Snowball, Arkansas on April 15, 1916, spending 17 years in Arkansas and then 55 years in Galt.
He was a tire/lube man for Petroleum Tank Lines in West Sacramento for 30 years. During this time, he also purchased a dairy on Arno Road and ran it from 1958-1975 when he sold it and moved into Galt. He enjoyed gambling, yard work and being a handyman.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Evelyn of Galt; four children, Katherine, James, Randy, Alfred and Barzielle; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Chapel services were held at the Ben Salas Funeral Home on Aug. 30 with committal following at the Galt Cemetery. Pastor Rob Patterson of the First Baptist Church of Galt officiated.

Obituaries for February 18, 2004

Franklin F. Harper
Franklin Floyd Harper of Acampo died Feb. 9, 2004 at a local convalescent home. He was born Aug. 23, 1934 in Mesa, Arizona to Roy and Eva Harper.
His family moved to the Herald area where they farmed. He moved to Galt in the sixth grade and graduated from Galt High School in 1952. He served in the US Army from 1957 to 1959. He then became a dental lab technician and owned his own business.
After his retirement, he returned to farming locally for many years. He was one of the original founders of the Galt Church of Christ, and a current member of Galt United Methodist Church and the Old Car Club. He enjoyed square dancing, building things and RVing with his wife.
Surviving him are his wife, Marcy Harper of Acampo; sons, Scott Harper of Bakersfield and Timothy Harper of Pennsauken, New Jersey; six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial celebration of his life was held Feb. 14 at Galt United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Galt United Methodist Church/Harper Fund.
Ben Salas Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Jim Moore
James Bryan Moore, Jr., 78, of Galt, peacefully passed away at home on Feb. 14, 2004. He was born in Eureka on Nov. 16, 1925.
Mr. Moore lived in the Lodi/Galt region for the past 42 years. In addition to his 50 years of service as an irrigation engineer, solving water problems for farmers, municipalities and entire governments, he was known as a regular volunteer in civic activities in the Galt, Lodi and Stockton areas.
He was a naval electrical engineer in the Pacific Fleet during WWII before attending Humboldt State and Cal Poly at San Luis Obispo.
Surviving him are his wife of 54 years, Becky Moore; sons, Gil Moore of Elk Grove and John Moore of Hanalei, Kauau; daughter, Johanna Gorski of Elk Grove; five grandchildren; and sisters, Pat Clark of Prineville, Oregon and Janis Saunders of Trinidad.
The family invites friends to attend a memorial mass at St. Christopher's Church in Galt on Friday, Feb. 20, at 9 a.m., with reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in his honor to "Friends of the Galt Library."

Obituaries for June 16, 2004

Frankie L. Miller
Frankie Lois Miller died June 3, 2004 of cancer at the UC Davis Medical Center. She was born June 30, 1926 in Herried, South Dakota.
She graduated from Galt High School in 1944 and attended Northwest Christian College in Eugene, Oregon. She was active in band, playing the flute and being an accompanist on the piano and organ.
She married Marion E. Miller in 1945 in Galt. They resided in Martinez from 1946-1952 where she worked for Contra Costa County. In 1952, they moved to Linden where she was active in their church and in raising their children. After moving to Woodland in 1956, she was active in the First Christian Church as an organist. She became a legal secretary, working for Harry Ackley and Purtell and Hoppin in Woodland; Dahl, Heffner in Sacramento; and finally Bogle and Gates in Seattle when she retired in 1985.
After retirement, they returned to Lake Almanor where she took up fishing, golfing and entertaining friends, family and, especially, the grandchildren. They traveled to England, Scotland, Ireland, and Russia. While visiting China, they sailed down the Yangsee River on one of the last trips before it was dammed. Most recently they took a cruise through the Panama Canal.
She was very active in retirement with the Lake Almanor Women's Golf Group, serving as chair of their annual tournament, being an accompanist for the Chester Community Chorus, and a volunteer for the women's auxiliary for the Lake Almanor Peninsula Fire Department. Until recently she had volunteered with HICAP, assisting seniors with their medical and legal issues.
Surviving her are her husband, Marion E. Miller of Lake Almanor; her children, Clarice and Bob Martin of Davis, Jerry and Karol Miller of Suisun; grandchildren, Derek and Stacey Duncan and Kara and Greg Casey of San Jose; Lisabeth Martin of Sacramento; Molly Martin of Santa Barbara, Megan and Richard Kozma of Cassleberry, Florida, Stacey and Sherowood Hill of El Paso, Teas and Darrin Miller of Vacaville; great-grandchildren, Kaylest Kozma and Makenzie Duncan.
Preceding her in death were her parents, John and Myrl Quascknick; siblings, Clarice Fenske, Pete Quaschnick, Robert Quaschnick, Roy Quaschnick and Kathleen Quaschnick.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that remembrances be made to the American Cancer Society or the Lake Almanor Peninsula Fire Department.
A celebration of life was held at Lake Almanor Country Club on June 12 and in Woodland on June 15.

Henriette Robbertze
Henriette Robbertze of Herald passed away from natural causes on June 8, 2004. She was 80. She was born Harriette Corbet in Indonesia on June 28, 1923. She lived in Indonesia, Holland and Pahrump, Nevada and was a resident of the area for nine years.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed needlepoint, cooking and crafts.
Surviving her are her daughters, Ineke Kennedy, Yolanda Schredder and O'Linda Robbertze; brother, Ruud Corbet; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Abraham A. Robbertze, and her son, Abraham J. Robbertze preceded her in death.
Services were private.

J.C. Phillips
J.C. Phillips, formerly of Galt, died June 8, 2004 in Kingman, Arizona. He was born Jan. 27, 1917 in Pittsburg County, Oklahoma. He lived in Galt from 1952 until recently, and was a self-employed mechanic.
Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Alva Phillips. Surviving him are three children, Joyce Wade of Kingman, Arizona, Arnold Phillips of Stockton and Alyce Wilson of Galt; sisters, Janice Pollard and Fern LaMar of Texas; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
Burial took place at the Galt Cemetery on Monday, June 14.

Donald J. Desper
Donald Joseph Desper passed away June 12, 2004 in his Galt home. He was born Dec. 25, 1929 in LaSalle, Illinois.
In his younger years, Don enjoyed acting in little theatre groups, performing throughout the countryside. He retired in 1991, and he and his wife, Kathleen, moved to Arizona. They traveled across the U.S. in their travel trailer. One of Don's favorite trips was to Alaska in the summer of 2003 when they drove more than 7,000 miles from their Galt home, camping along the way. He documented this trip in a journal with beautiful photos of spots they visited along the way.
Don had a lifelong devotion to God and the Catholic church. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Surviving him are his loving wife of 30 years, Kathleen Desper; children, Don Desper, Jr., Debby Desper, Diane Chouncea and Dorothy Wilcox; five stepchildren, 16 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ralph Desper Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Christopher's Catholic Church, 950 S. Lincoln Way in Galt on Wednesday, June 16, at 9 a.m. Committal will follow at Galt Cemetery.
Viewing will be at the church from 5-7 p.m., and evening vigil will follow at 7 p.m.
Memorial gifts may be sent to the American Cancer Society.

Wayne McCrorey
Wayne McCrorey of Acampo died of natural causes on June 11, 2004. He was 81.
He was born on Jan. 15, 1923 in Reeds Springs, Missouri. He first came to the Lodi-Galt area in 1949. He moved to Coquille, Oregon in 1962 where he stayed for 20 years. He retired and moved back to the Galt area in 1984.
He was employed by General Mills in the late 50s and in the plywood industry until his retirement. He served in The US Navy during WW II and was a member of the Lodi Christian Life Church. He enjoyed all sports. He especially liked watching the young players.
Surviving him are his lifelong friend and companion, Charline Dockery; four children, Loretta Koyama of Acampo, Kathy Houston of Grants Pass, Ore., Ed McCrorey of Myrtle Point, Ore. and Fran McCrorey (Poochie) of Galt; sisters, Virginia Davis of Stockton and Evelyn Harthun of Rancho Cordova; brother, Glen McCrorey of Coquille, Ore,; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on June 22 at the Lodi Christian Life Church at 7:30 p.m. Brother Richard Francis will officiate. Committal will be private.

Obituaries for June 14, 2006
Hollis Kilgore
Hollis W. Kilgore (55) of Lodi died unexpectedly on Friday, June 2, 2006 at Lodi Memorial Hospital. He was born Jan. 30, 1951 in San Mateo, and has been a Lodi resident for more than 20 years.
Mr. Kilgore was employed as a superintendent with Diede Construction, Inc. in Lodi for the last 15 years. He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman, spending most of his spare time fishing off the coast of northern California. He also enjoyed hunting, golfing and watching any and all sporting events on TV. In addition to fishing, Mr. Kilgore often made time to help his mother and play with his grandchildren.
Surviving him are his mother, Leah Mae Kilgore of Lodi; daughters, Adelia Barelme and Cortney von Miller of Galt; longtime love, Sue Evans of Torrance; and four grandsons, Zachary (10), Tyler (9), Nolan (5) and Nathan (1).
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 15, in the Evergreen Chapel at Cherokee Memorial Park on Harney Lane in Lodi. Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mikey Wilcox
Wayne Michael (Mikey) Wilcox (36) entered into rest on May 27, 2006 due to a fatal stroke. He was born Sept. 21, 1969.
While serving four years in the Army, Mike fought in the war in Panama and also dedicated one year to the National Guard. He was known for making people laugh and truly valued his family and friends.
Michael is survived by his sons, Michael Aaron Wilcox (10) and Stephen Andrew Wilcox (6), ex-wife and friend, Jill Johnson; mother, Denise Kirsch-Schmidt and step-father, Richard Schmidt; sister, Stacy Medina and brother-in-law, John Medina; niece, Johnni and nephew, Hunter; grandfather, WM Wilcox; four aunts, one uncle, and many dear cousins, in-laws and friends.
Memorial services will be held in Galt on June 17 at 11 a.m. Friends and family wishing to attend may call 209-745-4596 for information. A virtual register book may be signed at www.lodifuneralhome.com where memories may be shared.

Joyce Sidwell
Joyce Sidwell (65) of Woodbridge passed away in her home from a sudden and unexpected illness on Thursday, June 8, 2006 with her family by her side.
She was born in Redwood City on Sept. 12, 1940. She spent her time as a Jehovah's Witness and worked as a stay-at-home mom until 1987 when she became employed at Lodi Memorial Hospital until retiring in 2002. She loved socializing with her friends and family and will be missed very much.
Joyce is survived by her daughters, Kim and Scott Mackey of Galt, Nanci and Aaron Shaddy, and a son, Cameron Brown of Lodi; sister, Shirley and Don Kafka of Belmont; grandchildren, Nicholas Martin, Brent Shaddy, Breanna Shaddy and Shealynn Mackey.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 3540 Wilmarth, Stockton, with Don Bryant officiating.
At the request of the family, burial will be private.
