Eather Marie Guthrie
Eather Marie Guthrie, age 86, of Niceville, Fla., went to be with the Lord on Feb. 9, 1998.
Eather was born on Nov. 8, 1911, in Lydia, Ky., to Beve and Nancy Smith. She had lived in this area since 1996. Eather was a member of the Church of God. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her sons, Jack Guthrie of Navarre, Fla., John and wife Shirley Guthrie of Villa Tassa, Fla., Charles and wife Donna Guthrie of Oak Ridgen, Tenn., and Billy and Janet Guthrie of Daytona, Fla.; daughter, Marsha Desonia of Panama City, Fla.; brothers, Claude Smith of Liberty, S.C., and Charles Smith of Detroit; 24 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
A service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 12, at the Church of God in Niceville at 10 a.m.

Winifred E. Lee
Winifred E. Lee, age 94, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., died Friday, Feb. 6, 1998, at a local nursing center.
Mrs. Lee was born on June 27, 1903, in Alva, Okla., and came to Fort Walton Beach several years ago from California.
Mrs. Lee is survived by her niece, Slavie Monika Lee of Fort Walton Beach.
Memorialization will be by cremation and inurnment will take place at Beal Memorial Cemetery at a later date.
Little Chapel Funeral Home, 910 Beal Pkwy., Fort Walton Beach, is in charge of arrangements.

Claire F. Murtagh
Claire F. Murtagh, age 90, of Niceville, Fla., died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, in a local hospital.
She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Oct. 9, 1907, to Philip and Rose Schivagel. Claire was married to Andrew F. Murtagh in 1927 and resided in Jersey City, N.J., for many years. She was employed at Westinghouse Elevator Co. for 25 years, was a very accomplished pianist, and was loving and generous to all. People always responded to her warmth and caring nature.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Rose and Ann; and her brother, Philip. Her beloved husband, Andy, died in 1965.
Her survivors include her son, Andrew T. Murtagh of Crestview, Fla.; daughter and husband, Joyce and Walter Prichard of Niceville; her grandchildren, Bruce and Nancy Prichard of Virginia Beach, Va., Debbie and Edward Razo of Naperville, Ill., and David Prichard of Boston. Her great-grandchildren are Megan and Jeffrey Grimes of Naperville.
Funeral services will be held in Union City, N.J., on Saturday, Feb. 14, with interment following at Bergen Crest Mausoleum in that city.

Goldie J. Barlow
Goldie J. Barlow, age 71, of Niceville, Fla., passed away Feb. 9, 1998, at Bay Heritage Convalescent Center.
She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her loving husband of 40 years, Jesse Barlow; sister, Lavon Pichard of Alabama; sister and brother-in-law, Clara and Joe Dibello of Salt Lake City; several nieces and nephews; and numerous good friends.
Goldie requested her remains be cremated.

Robert L. Cobb Sr.
Robert L. Cobb Sr., age 74, of Holt, Fla., passed away on Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, at North Okaloosa Medical Center in Crestview, Fla.
Mr. Cobb was a retired construction supervisor and a lifelong resident of Holt.
Robert was a loving and devoted husband and father. He was a friend to everyone he met. Although he will be greatly missed, we take comfort in knowing he is with our Lord and we will all be reunited. Until then, lovingly, your family.
Mr. Cobb is survived by his wife, Jean Allen Cobb; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Jr. and Bobbie Cobb, all of Holt; daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Sam Brunson of Baker, Fla., Linda Maloy and Mack Blue, Patsy and Mike Moulton, all of Crestview, Judy and Mike Fowler, Jan Long and Harvey Hunter, and Terry and Chuck Thames, all of Holt; sister, Montez Parrish of Bristol, Fla.; 24 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at Whitehurst Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Carson Judah and Chuck Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Dr. James R. Kinsaul
Dr. James R. Kinsaul, age 76, of Havana, Fla., died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, in Tallahassee, Fla.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. EST on Thursday, Feb. 12, at graveside in Woodland Cemetery in Havana.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to Gadsden County Humane Society, P.O. Box 794, Havana, FL 32333; or to a favorite charity.
Mr. Kinsaul was a native of Charlotte, N.C., and had lived in Havana since 1978. He was a graduate of Auburn University and served as president of the senior class of veterinary medicine in 1952. He operated Cove Animal Clinic in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., until his retirement in 1978. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Pacific Theater and retiring as a captain. He was also a member of First Presbyterian Church in Havana.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Marjorie P. Kinsaul; sons, Mike Kinsaul and Zack Kinsaul; daughter, Karen Kinsaul, all of Havana; brothers, Wallace Kinsaul and John Kinsaul, both of Freeport; and sisters, Mary K. McGathy of Freeport, and Myrtle K. Davis of Florence, Ala.

Thomas Edward Bishop
Thomas Edward Bishop, age 62, of Gulf Breeze, Fla., died suddenly Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, in Englewood, Fla.
Mr. Bishop was a retired Florida Marine Patrol major with 31 years of duty. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Gulf Breeze, where he had resided for the past 10 years. He was born in Panama City, Fla.; was a U.S. Army veteran; and a lifelong resident of Florida.
He is survived by his wife, Frankie A. Bishop of Gulf Breeze; son, Barry Thomas Bishop of Wrightsville Beach, N.C.; brothers, Bryant S. Bishop of Panama City, and Douglas M. Bishop of Winter Park, Fla.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. R.E. "Tim" Johnson of DeFuniak Springs, Fla.
Funeral services will be conducted at Cinco Baptist Church in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., on Thursday, Feb. 12, at 2 p.m. with Dr. Jeff Spicer and the Rev. Talmadge Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Beal Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to services.
Floral contributions are accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 4901 Gulf Breeze Pkwy., Gulf Breeze, FL 32561.

George Edward Knowles
George Edward Knowles, age 78, of Tallahassee, Fla., died Feb. 9, 1998, in Tallahassee.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Fellowship Presbyterian Church in Tallahassee. Burial will be in Rushville City Cemetery in Rushville, Ill.
Memorial contributions may be made to Florida Elks Childrens Hospital, P.O. Box 49, Umatilla, Fla.
Mr. Knowles was a native of Rushville and had lived in Tallahassee since 1977. He was a charter member of Fellowship Presbyterian Church; served in World War II and the Vietnam War; and served in the U.S. Army, the U.S. Army Air Corps and the U.S. Air Force for a total of 32 years.
He was a decorated veteran and memberships included the National Association for Uniformed Services; Tallahassee Chapter of the Retired Officers Association; Tallahassee Elks Lodge; Kiwanis International; Tallahassee Chapter No. 5 DAV; American Legion; Seniors Coalition of Washington, D.C.; National Committee to Preserve Social Security; was Medicare Tallahassee representative for 1997-98; Notch Reform Project Member; member of Good Sam RV'ers Club; member in good standing and life member of Rantoul, Ill., Lodge 470 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons for 46 years; York Rite of Canada; Knights Templor of Canada; Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons of Newfoundland, Canada; Supreme Grand Council-Eastern Jurisdiction of Canada Royal and Select Masters.
Survivors include his sons, Douglas G. Knowles and David E. Knowles, both of Tallahassee; daughters, Wendy Poppell of Panama City, Fla., Deborah Erickson of Minneapolis, and Christine Melton of Tallahassee; sister, Lillian May Ellis of Rushville; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Edward Francis Hodges
Lt. Col. Edward Francis Hodges, U.S. Air Force retired, age 77, of Shalimar, Fla., died Feb. 4, 1998, at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center after a brave battle with cancer.
He was born in Hinsdale, Ill., on March 5, 1920, and had lived in this area since 1968. Lt. Col. Hodges retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1970 after completing over 28 years of military service. He was a command pilot and combat veteran of World War II, shot down and rescued from behind the 38th parallel in Korea, and served in Vietnam. His awards and decorations included the Distinguished Flying Cross with one oak leaf cluster, the Bronze Star, and the Air Medal with eight oak leaf clusters.
Following his Air Force retirement he was president and general manager of Hodges and Sons Inc., a local heating and air conditioning business until it was sold in 1979.
He was a member of the Air Force Association; the Retired Officers Association; BPOE Fort Walton Beach Lodge 1795; Disabled American Veterans; P-47 Thunderbolt Pilots Association; P-51 Mustang Pilots Association; and the Northwest Florida Retired Officers Club. He was Protestant by faith.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia J. Hodges of Shalimar; sons, Stephen M. Hodges of Tallahassee, Fla., and John "Jack" P. Hodges of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; daughters, N. Kristen Hodges of Fort Walton Beach, Elizabeth K. Towe of Waterford, Calif., and Elizabeth J. Vachon of Jacksonville, Fla.; brothers, Grover H. "Joe" Hodges of Denison, Texas, and William A. Hodges of Stafford, Texas; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Lt. Col. Hodges was preceded in death by his father and mother, Edward P. and Mary Frances (Nanz) Hodges; and three sons, Robert Lou, Terry Duane and Edward R. Hodges.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Feb. 14 at McLaughlin Mortuary with the Rev. Ashley Pogue officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Beal Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in his memory to Hospice of Northwest Florida; 1005 W. College Blvd.; Niceville, FL 32578; or to the American Cancer Society.

William A. Poston
William A. "Boe" Poston, age 63, of Mary Esther, Fla., passed away unexpectedly at a local hospital on Feb. 9, 1998.
He was a native of Florence, S.C., and moved to this area in 1966, coming from Nashville, Tenn. He retired as a master sergeant from the U.S. Air Force in 1973 with over 22 years of service to his country. He was a member of Wright Baptist Church in Fort Walton Beach, and owner and operator of P & H Air Conditioning Co.
Mr. Poston is survived by his wife, Nell Poston of Mary Esther; daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Albert Powell of Crestview, Fla., and Theresa and Wes Floyd of Pace, Fla.; son, Frank Poston of Boynton Beach, Fla.; brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Sheryl Poston of Gulf Breeze, Fla., and Buddy and Sue Poston of Griffin, Ga.; sisters and brother-in-law, Irene and Donald Stone of Florence, and Mildred Turner of Johnsonville, S.C.; grandchildren, Angie Powell, Karen Powell, Ryan Floyd and Kaitlynn Floyd; many nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Wright Baptist Church with Dr. Ronald Wilcoxson, and the Revs. Dwayne Tindell and Jerry Nelson officiating. Interment will follow in Beal Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Wright Baptist Church Building Fund.

William Junius Slocumb
William "Bill" Junius Slocumb, age 70, of 17 Country Club Road, Shalimar, Fla., died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, at his residence.
Mr. Slocumb was born in Goldsboro, N.C., and was Methodist by faith. Mr. Slocumb retired in 1987 to the Shalimar area after working with Delta Airlines for 31 years. He retired as an international captain on the Lockheed "10-11" with over 30,000 hours flying time. He served in the U.S. Navy and in the U.S. Air Force and received his training in the 49-B class for pilots. He was an instructor pilot with the Air Force before moving to Delta.
While working with Delta he lived for 26 years in Atlanta. He was a member of the Host Council and the Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Slocumb is survived by his wife, Nancy Slocumb of Shalimar; daughters, Nancy Lynn Fink and husband Tom, Leigh Ann Strange and husband Shawn, all of Atlanta; sons, William Slocumb Jr. and wife MeChee of Camas, Wash., Mark Winslow Slocumb and wife Barbara of Atlanta; grandchildren, B.J., Spencer, Parker and Chase Slocumb; sister, Ruth Emlet of Pace, Fla.; and brother, Charles Dewey Slocumb of Shalimar.
The family will receive friends on Friday, Feb. 13, at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m.
Inurnment, with friends invited, will take place on Saturday, Feb. 14, at 10 a.m. in Beal Memorial Cemetery.

Johann C. Rieger
Johann C. Rieger, age 93, of Niceville, Fla., died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, at his residence.
Johann was born in Germany on Oct. 10, 1904, to Anton and Maria Rieger. He had lived in this area since 1993.
He is survived by his daughter, Anneliese, and son-in-law, Herman Callahan of Niceville; granddaughters, Carol Ann and husband Bobby Myers of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., Cathy Callahan and fiance Jason Fulghum of Niceville, and Carin and husband Steve Edwards of Opp, Ala.; great-grandchildren, Catrina Myers, Justin and Ashley Edwards; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. There will be no funeral service.

William Ernest Bryan
William Ernest Bryan, age 87, of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, in a local hospital.
Mr. Bryan was a native and lifelong resident of Walton County, Fla. He was Baptist by faith; a farmer; and a logger.
Mr. Bryan was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Dell Bryan; daughter, Juanita DeLoach; sons, J.D. Bryan and John Cecil Bryan and wife; sisters, Gladys Jones and Ruth Bryan; brothers, Andrew Bryan and Theodore Bryan; and a grandchild.
Survivors include his son, William Sonny Bryan of Ponce de Leon, Fla., Tony Ernest Bryan, Billy Bryan and Charles Andrew Bryan, all of DeFuniak Springs; daughters, Evelyn Spears, Ellen Norris and Lorene Schofield, all of Florala, Ala., Jackie Harbuck of New Brockton, Ala., Elizabeth Ettenbergh of Dothan, Ala., and Carolyn White of Slocomb, Ala.; brothers, Willie Bryan and Grady Bryan of DeFuniak Springs; sisters, Bessie Mae Jones of Freeport, Fla., and Laura Daughtry of Niceville, Fla.; 24 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at Comander Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery in DeFuniak Springs.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
