Irene G. Ritchie
Irene Gilliam Ritchie, 82, of Manakin, died Wednesday, November 20, 2002.
Graveside services were held at 3 p.m., Saturday, November 23 at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
She is survived by a son, Robert B. Ritchie Jr. and his wife, Jeannie; two daughters, Kathryn R. Patton and her husband, Jerry, and Jean Ritchie Tatum and her husband, Norman, all of Richmond; 10 grandchildren, Carter, Burt, Sara and Joey Ritchie, Kathleen Karger and Rebecca Welch of Richmond, Amy Ritchie and Brooke Welch of New York City, Kristin Welch of Seattle, Washington and Jennifer Bonano and her husband, Bart, of Millston, New Jersey; six sisters, Kathryn Rice of Richmond, Sylvia Payne of Knoxville, Tennessee, Marjorie Watkins of Lakeland, Florida, Anna Fadden of Jacksonville, Florida, Lottie Bender of Olympia, Washington, and Toni Liron and her husband, General Jean Pierre Liron, of Paris, France; and her brother, Carl Gilliam and his wife, Mary, of Fresno, California.
Mrs. Ritchie was born June 6, 1920 in Pleasant Run, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert B. Ritchie Sr.; a brother, Clyde Gilliam; and a sister, Lena Hilliard of Lakeland, Florida.
She graduated from Speers Memorial Hospital in Dayton, Kentucky as a registered nurse. She entered the U. S. Army Nurse Corps in 1942 as a second lieutenant and served in an Army hospital in Sherbourne, England during World War II.
Woody Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Timothy E. Amos Sr.
Timothy Edward Amos Sr., 42, of Goochland, died Friday, January 10, 2003.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 15 at the Staples Mill Chapel of Bliley Funeral Home. Interment was in West-hampton Memorial Park.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy Amos; two sons, Christopher T. Amos and Timothy E. Amos Jr. and his wife, Amber; two daughters, Cassie Jenkins and Crystal Brumfield and her husband, Walt; five grandchildren, Lia, Jonathan, Hunter, Jessica and Taylor; his mother, Jean Amos; stepmother, Joann Amos; brother, Gary Amos; two sisters Debbie Freeman and her husband, Punky, and Angel Richmond and her husband, Jamie; three nieces, Ashley, Beth and Brianna; two nephews, David and Gary; and friends Keith Bains and Jessie Blankenship.
Mr. Amos was preceded in death by his grandmother, Doris Amos; his father, Thomas Amos; and his brothers, David and Jerry Amos.
He was a member of Shady Tree Bass Masters and an organ donor.

Cora T. Athey
Cora Tinsley Athey, of Goochland, died Saturday, January 11, 2003.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Bertha Jackson, were held Wednesday, January 15 at Rising Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Columbia. Interment was in the church cemetery.
She is survived by her daughter, Tamara T. Kearney; grandson, Dwayne Tinsley; two sisters, Sally Wells and Emma Wells and her husband, Clarence, of Columbia; and two brothers, Robert Tinsley and his wife, Virginia, of Richmond and Lewis Tinsley and his wife, Clara, of Goochland.
The Robert Mealy Funeral in Goochland handled the arrangements.

Willie L. Ezell Sr.
Willie Lee Ezell Sr., 65, of Goochland, died Sunday, January 12, 2003.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Jimmy Dews, were held at 11 a.m. at Gethsemane Baptist Church, South Hill. Interment was in Amelia Veterans Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Rose Lee Ezell; two sons, Bouvier and Willie Jr., a daughter, Jolette Ezell; two daughter-in-laws; six grandchildren; and a number of other family and friends.
The Robert Mealy Funeral Home in Goochland handled the arrangements.

Lawrence S. Fleming
Deacon Lawrence S. Fleming, 69, of Manakin-Sabot, died Tuesday, January 14, 2003.
The Robert Mealy Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Joseph E. Garrett Sr.
Joseph E. Garrett Sr., 82, of Goochland, died Saturday, January 11, 2003.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Bruce Claiborne, were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 14 at Ebenezer Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Edith; two sons, Joseph Jr. and his wife, Patsy, and Vernon and his wife, Margie; his daughter, Carolyn; six grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.
The Robert Mealy Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Shawn E. Pruitt
Shawn E. Pruitt, 42, of Maidens, died Friday, January 10, 2003.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 14, at Second Baptist Church. Interment was in Westhampton Memorial Park.
She is survived by her husband, O. J. Pruitt; a stepson, Jay Pruitt; a brother, Keith R. Herzwurm and his wife, Courtney J.; two stepsisters, Lisa Herzwurm and Karen Johnson; her stepmother, Shirley Herzwurm, and her stepfather, Bob Childress.
She was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and was very active with the State Fair of Virginia. She furnished and drove the State Fair horse hitch and was very active with Field Day of the Past.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Goochland Rescue Squad #5.
West Chapel, Bennett Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Tom Yates
Tom Yates of Goochland died Thursday, May 8, 2003.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 31 at Co. 5 Fire and Rescue Station on Fairgrounds Road, Goochland.
He is survived by three sisters, Elsie, Carolyn and Lou and their families, all of North Carolina.
Mr. Yates was well known for his cooking and locally known for working at The North Pole, Satterwhite’s Restaurant, Goochland Restaurant and Goochland Gourmet Deli and Subs.

Elto S. Brice
Elto Shalmare Brice, 68, of Louisa, died Wednesday, September 3, 2003.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Walter Jones Sr., were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 7 at County Line Baptist Church, Kents Store.
She is survived by three sisters, Luberta Brice, Mary Shelton and her husband, Ivor, all of Louisa, and Estelle Pace and her husband, Haywood, of Sandy Hook; four nephews, Thomas Brice Jr. and his wife, Keeron, Derrick Brice and their mother, Barbara, all of Rockville, Ivor Shelton Jr. of Louisa and Garrick Pace of Sandy Hook; one aunt-in-law, Margaret Jackson of Richmond; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Ms. Brice was born December 29, 1934, the daughter of the late Marcellous and Ruby Jackson Brice.
She was a faithful member of County Line Baptist Church, Kents Store
Thomasson’s Funeral Services, Inc. of Louisa was in charge of all arrangements.

Helen B. Gillespie
Helen Brooks Gillespie, 71, of Powhatan, died Sunday, September 7, 2003.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 8 at the Bliley Funeral Home’s Chippenham Chapel. Interment was in Dale Memorial Park.
She is survived by her husband, Allen Ray Gillespie Jr.; four daughters; 10 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a large, loving family.
She was a member of Buford Road Baptist Church, where she played the organ for the past nine years.

Aubrey C. Hughes
Aubrey Carter Hughes, 61, of Sandy Hook, died Monday, September 8, 2003.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 11, at Forest Grove Christian Church. Interment was in the Hughes family Cemetery, Sandy Hook.
He is survived by his wife, Doris G. Hughes; four children, Aubrey Dean Hughes, Jennifer Hughes Layne and her husband, Steve, Benjamin Guy Hughes and his wife, Kerry, and Gordon Thomas Hughes; four grandchildren, Aubrey Carter Hughes II, Hannah, Rachel and Joshua Layne; and four sisters, Vernelle Payne and her husband, Marvin, Margaret Payne and her husband, Charles, Betty Lou Sharpe and Mary Ruth Davidson.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Calbert R. Pace Sr.
Calbert R. Pace Sr., 65, of Goochland, died Sunday, September 7, 2003.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Donald Trent, were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 12 at Second Union Baptist Church, Goochland. Interment was in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice A. Pace; two sons, Calbert Jr. and Alvin Pace and his wife, Martha; three daughters, Rebecca Campbell and her husband, Reginald, Pattie Carrington and her husband, Christopher, and Charlene Pace and her husband, Mark Fleming; his mother, Elnora Haden; three brothers, Joseph Smith Jr., Linwood Haden and his wife, Harriet and Houstan Haden and his wife, Berlene; two sisters, Judy Davis and her husband, Leland, and Ida Claiborne and her husband, Michael; a number of grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and devoted friends, Isiah Roach, Patricia Brown and the Pepsi-Cola crew.
Mr. Pace was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Pace; his father, Joseph Smith; and stepfather, William Haden.
He was a Pepsi-Cola truck driver.

Anne W. Preuss
Anne Will Preuss, 78, of Powhatan, died Saturday, September 6, 2003.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 8 at Bliley Funeral Homes’ Chippenham Chapel. Interment was in Dale Memorial Park.
She is survived by her daughter, Marjorie Samuels and her husband, Ronald; three grandchildren, Brent, Jeff and Kim; four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Norma Hyman and her husband, Herb, and Marjorie Yonce and her husband, Keith; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Richmond.

Milton C. Stanley
Milton C. Stanley, “Mickey”, 71, of Goochland died Saturday, September 6, 2003.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 9 at the Bliley Funeral Homes’ Staples Mill Chapel. Interment was in Washington Memorial Park.
He is survived by his wife, Lottie Wyatt Stanley; five sons, Mickey C. Stanley, Marvin L. Stanley, Mark E. Stanley, Timothy M. Stanley and Shawn C. Stanley; a daughter, Sharon Lynne Stanley; a brother, Kenneth W. Stanley; two sisters, Joyce M. Gray and Faye S. Blackwell; five grandchildren, Angela, Jeremy, Trish, Bryan and Jennifer Stanley; and a great-grandson, Jacob Nathan Carton.
Mr. Stanley was preceded in death by his brother, Philip T. Stanley; and his sister, Elsie Massengale.
He was retired from American Filtrona after 40 years and was an antique dealer in the metropolitan area. He was also very active in the community, coaching at the Rotary Boys Club in the 1960’s, and as a member of the Virginia Pigeon Club in the 1950’s and 1960’s.
