Working on tracing your roots can really be challenging, especially if you do not know what you are looking for to begin with. One of the best ways to start is by getting a few names and some other information from family members, and if you have ancestors from other states, including Utah, you will want to find relatives on those states. • Create lists. You will need to have lists of names. Then you will need to create lists of the names of the relatives of those names on your previous lists. • Create folders – You will want to have a folder for each family group that you research. For example, you will have one folder for your immediate family. You will have another folder that contains information about your parents and their other children. You will have a folder about your grandparents. For each family group, make sure that you have a separate folder, so you will be able to access information quickly and easily when you need it.
• Set up a schedule – There is a lot of work involved in tracing your family history, and it can be extremely time consuming. Make sure that you set up a schedule of when you are going to work on your project, and try to stick with this. There may be times when this is not possible, but having a schedule will help to make sure that your research doesn’t take up all of your time.
• Get help – Don’t be afraid to ask for help with your research. The more people who are helping, the quicker the work is going to get done. You can get relatives from other states to help you research ancestors from those states, or you can ask professional genealogists for help with many things. There are also a number of genealogical websites and many excellent books available on the subject.
