Josephine M. Cox
Josephine M. Ratliff Cox, 75, of Petersburg, W.Va., died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, in Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md.

Mrs. Cox was born May 10, 1924, in Gaithersburg, Md., the daughter of Walter G. and Hattie Miller Mobley Ratliff.

She and her husband owned and operated Cox’s Grocery in Petersburg for several years.

She was a member of Petersburg Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.

She was married to Clarence G. Cox, who died on Feb. 7, 1990.

Surviving are five daughters, Elizabeth “Libby” Grubb of Rocky Ridge, Md., Barbara J. Oliver of Gore, Patricia “Patsy” Free and Nancy J. Wilmer, both of Frederick, Md., and Sharon M. Remsburg of Adamstown, Md.; a sister, Irene Combs of Winchester; a brother, Herbert Ratliff of Rockville; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Schaeffer Funeral Home, with the Rev. Richard L. Longbon officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Petersburg.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 this afternoon and from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or a favorite hospice.

Marshall W. Snyder
Marshall Webster “Web” Snyder, 89, of 59 Sipe’s Hollow Lane, Berryville, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at his home.

Mr. Snyder was born Aug. 24, 1910, in Clarke County, the son of Carl and Lucy Willingham Snyder. He retired from Smalley Basket Co. in Berryville after more than 50 years.

Surviving is a sister, Hilda Buckner of Winchester.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville, with the Rev. Canon Dwight L. Brown officiating.

Pallbearers will be Allan McWilliams, Billy Milleson, Danny Clipp, Mike Sipe, and James C. Sipe.

Friends may call anytime Wednesday at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home, Berryville.

Memorials may be made to John H. Enders Fire and Rescue Company, 9 South Buckmarsh St., Berryville 22611.

Curtis C. Huff
Curtis Clayton Huff, 63, of Strasburg, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, in Potomac Hospital, Woodbridge.

Mr. Huff was born July 9, 1936, in Lynch, Ky., the son of Olen and Lillie Mae Williams Huff. He was plant engineer for Crider and Shockey Inc. in Winchester for 16 years and had retired from the Army with the rank of staff sergeant. He served during the Vietnam War and received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Army Commendation 2nd. Oak Leaf Cluster.

He was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses in Edinburg and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.

He married Rita Meta Weber on Nov. 30, 1956.

Surviving are two sons, Curtis Olen Huff of Strasburg and Steve Gilbert Huff of Aberdeen, Md.; two daughters, Diane Marie Critzer and Esther Ann Howard, both of Strasburg; two sisters, Mabel Anderkin of Virginia and Sandra Reece of Ohio; three brothers, Billy Joe Huff of Oklahoma, John Huff of Ohio, and Jim Huff of Tennessee; and 12 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Dellinger Funeral Home, Woodstock, with Walter Scott officiating.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Roy H. Jenkins
Roy Herman Jenkins, 83, of 337 Capon St., Strasburg, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. Jenkins was born Nov. 25, 1916, in Strasburg, the son of Carl Henry and Annie Kline Jenkins. He was employed with the town of Strasburg and had retired.

He was a member of Strasburg Christian Church.

He was married to Ethel Jean Compton.

Surviving with his wife are a foster son, David Sager of Strasburg; a stepdaughter, Betty Borden of Strasburg; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Stover Funeral Home, Strasburg, with the Rev. Cheryl Tatham officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Strasburg.

Pallbearers will be Chuck Lohr, John Rhodes, Gary Ritenour, Timmy Neff, Robert Fogle, and Kevin Fauber.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Nellie A. Moore
Nellie A. Moore, 85, of Berryville Pike, Winchester, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at her home.

Mrs. Moore was born June 6, 1914, in Matoaka, W.Va., the daughter of Edward Isaiah and Ellen Canzady Radford Gillespie.

She married Erble M. Moore on Jan. 18, 1936, in Radford.

Surviving with her husband, are two sons, Ray Moore of Manassas and Larry Moore of Front Royal; three daughters, Lane Moore of Elliston, Shelby Whitt of Winchester, and Sarah Lawson of Middleburg; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Jones Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. J. Randall Orndorff officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Larry Moore, Danny Leach, Scott Moore, Stacy Leach, Richard Whitt, and Tommy Whitt.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Lois M. Orndorff
Lois Marguerite Orndorff, 79, of Yellow Spring, W.Va., died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at her home.

Mrs. Orndorff was born June 11, 1920, in Hanover, Ill., the daughter of Wilson and Myrtle Bertsch Campbell.

She taught at a rural school near Kingsley, Iowa, for three years. She was a 1938 graduate of Kingsley High School. She earned a teachers certificate at Western Union College in 1943.

She married Winfred W. Orndorff on Dec. 9, 1951, in Cumberland, Md.

Surviving with her husband, is a brother, Joe Campbell of Sioux City, Iowa.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Giffin Funeral Home, Capon Bridge, W.Va., with the Rev. Gregory R. Kenney officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Ruth O. Mauck
Ruth O. Mauck, 79, of Front Royal, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, in Warren Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Mauck was born April 9, 1920, in Raphine, a daughter of Charles W. and Nellie Shultz Ogden.

She retired from Avtex after 35 years employment. She was a member of Front Royal United Methodist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post 1860.

She was married to Thomas Mauck.

Surviving are two sons, Rick Hill of Stephens City and Danny Hill of Front Royal; a daughter, Barbara Haga of Richmond; two sisters, Ann Rutherford and Hazel Maguire, both of Front Royal; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be James Donahoe, Matthew Hill, Howard Haga Jr., Michael McCormick, Sean McCormick, and James Yager.

A funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Maddox Funeral Home by the Rev. Robert Jones. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home.

Robert Dave Squier
A service for Robert Dave Squier will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.

Marilyn S. Richmond
Marilyn S. Richmond, 76, of Front Royal, and Palm Harbor, Fla., died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, in Warren Memorial Hospital, Front Royal.

Mrs. Richmond was born Sept. 11, 1923, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of William and Helen Jacklitsch Kluger. She was a military wife and had lived in Japan and Germany.

She was married to Maj. F. James Richmond, for 56 years.

Surviving with her husband, are a son, F.J. Richmond Jr. of Rockville, Md.; two daughters, Katherine D. Richmond of Jewell, Iowa, and Barbara L. Queen of Hong Kong, China; two sisters, Helen Weber of Colorado Springs and Joan Nodeland of Dallas, Texas; nine grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

A son, John W. Richmond II, is deceased.

A funeral will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at Maddox Funeral Home, Front Royal. Burial will be in Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle.

The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.

Gertrude E. Vorisek
Gertrude E. Vorisek, 83, of Keizer, Ore., died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000.

Mrs. Vorisek was born Feb. 16, 1916, in New York, N.Y. She attended Bergen Junior College in New Jersey and was a volunteer with the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts in Oyster Bay.

She married Robert E. Vorisek on June 14, 1941. Mr. Vorisek died in 1994.

Surviving are two sons, Robert Vorisek Jr. of Lexington, Ky., and Thomas Vorisek of Berryville, Kenneth Vorisek of Sublimty, Ore., and Richard Vorisek of Keizer; two sisters, Betty Browe of Brewster, Mass., and Adell Renna of Locust Valley, N.Y.; and seven grandchildren.

A private service is planned.

Keizer Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Christine P. Bulifant
Christine P. Lloyd Bulifant, 82, of 1011 Pennsylvania Ave., Winchester, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, in a local nursing home.

Mrs. Bulifant was born March 9, 1917, in Powhatan, the daughter of Walter A. and Josie Tuohy Poulson. She was a medical secretary.

She was married to Robert L. Bulifant in 1972 in Richmond. Mr. Bulifant died in 1990.

Her first husband, Robert C. Lloyd, whom she married in 1939, died in 1967.

Surviving are a son, Robert C. Lloyd of Millwood; and three grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Maury Cemetery, Richmond, with the Rev. Bob Armstrong officiating.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Bliley Chippenham Chapel, Richmond.

Enders & Shirley Funeral Home, Berryville, is handling local arrangements.

Theresa G. Queen
Theresa Gladden Queen, 46, of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, in City Hospital, Martinsburg.

Mrs. Queen was born March 20, 1953, in Martinsburg, the daughter of William B. and Veronica Helpert Gladden. She was a member of the Catholic faith.

Surviving are a son, David Queen II of Martinsburg; a daughter, Pamela McDonald of Martinsburg; seven brothers, Cecil Gladden of Union Town, Pa., Bill Gladden Jr., Paul Gladden, and Timmy Gladden, all of Inwood, W.Va., Matthew Gladden of Norfolk, Steve Gladden of Williamsburg, and David Gladden of Gerrardstown, W.Va.; three sisters, Sandra Hopwood of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., Cindy O’Connor of Winchester, and Diane Bohrer of Gerrardstown; and six grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Rosedale Funeral Home, Martinsburg. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where friends may call from 9 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service.

Clifton E. Ward
Clifton Eugene Ward, 66, of P.O. Box 298, Augusta, W.Va., died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Romney, W.Va.

Mr. Ward was born June 23, 1933, in Independence, the son of T.B. and Alice Aliceicora Freeman Ward. He was a retired construction worker.

He was married to Edna Lucille Sexton.

Surviving with his wife, are a stepdaughter, Belva Authurton; three sisters, Ruby Long of Independence and Nellie Young of Pinnacle, N.C., and Annie Lee Sexton of Capon Bridge, W.Va.; five brothers, Ben Ward of Aberdeen, Md., Glen Ward of Augusta, Martin Ward of Fries, J. E. Ward of Galax, and Daniel Ward of Pine Mountain; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, Independence, with the Rev. Fred Jennings and the Rev. Alan Graham officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, Independence.
