Henrietta F. Ward
Henrietta Ford Haines Ward, 77, of Draper Lane, Temple, Texas, formerly of Middle Road, Winchester, died Dec. 20, 1999, in Scott & White Hospital, Temple, Texas.

Mrs. Ward was born July 21, 1922, in Apollo, Pa., the daughter of Harry Vernon and Freda Maude Spiher Haines. She graduated from Washington & Lee High School in Arlington in 1940. She retired after 25 years with the Boy and Girl Scouts of Winchester and relocated to Texas in 1988.

She married Raymond F. Ward on Aug. 28, 1940.

Surviving with her husband is a son, Richard F. Ward of Belton, Texas; a brother, Grant Haines of Hagerstown, Md.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Gettysburg National Military Park, Gettysburg, Pa.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America or the Lions Club of Taylor, Texas.

Condra Funeral Home, Taylor, Texas, handled arrangements.

Ruth A. Manson
Ruth Almeda Cook Manson, 88, of Richmond, formerly of 107 Richards Avenue, Winchester, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, in Retreat Hospital, Richmond.

Mrs. Manson was born May 19, 1911, in Madill, Okla., the daughter of William Henry and Myra Delphia Pierce Cook. She was a former file clerk at the Pentagon.

She was a member of the Imperial Plaza Melody Makers and attended the First Baptist Church of Winchester.

She was married to Roger Allen Manson.

Surviving are two sons, Charles N. Manson of Richmond and Henry P. Manson of Gore; two sisters, Ruby R. Cook of Houston, and Gladys Reeves of Little Rock, Ark.; and two granddaughters.

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Dellinger Funeral Home, Woodstock, with the Rev. Jennings Hobson III officiating.

Pallbearers will be Charles A. Long, David Williams, Lloyd Milhon, Tony Robbins, Lois Noffsinger, and Hugh Collis.

The family will receive friends from noon until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 321, Woodstock 22664.

Roy J. Haines
Roy Junior Haines, 74, of Three Churches, W.Va., died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at his home.

Mr. Haines was born Aug. 9, 1925, in Higgensville, W.Va., the son of Roy Grafton and Otie Virginia Shanholtzer Haines. He worked for Crown Cork & Seal and was a farmer. He retired in 1967 as a supply sergeant in the Army and served in World War II. In 1957, he participated in the testing of the atomic bomb in Yuma, Ariz. He received the Army Commendation Medal in 1967.

He was a member of VFW Post 6667 of Ft. Ashby, W.Va., American Legion Hampshire Post 91 of Romney, and Disabled American Veterans.

He was married to Mae E. Bodkin.

Surviving with his wife, are a son, Roy Steven Haines of Three Churches; a daughter, Sharon E. Davis of Three Churches; a step- son, Wayne Cheshire of Glendale, Ariz; a stepdaughter, Linda Oates; a brother, Donald R. Haines of Three Churches; three sisters, Gyneth Kirby of Three Churches, Reba Fogle of Springfield, and Vanice V. Wells of Beaver Creek, Ohio; three grandchildren; five step grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, W.Va., with Minister Daniel K. Stilter officiating. Burial will be in Augusta Cemetery, Augusta, W.Va., with military honors accorded by the Hampshire County veterans.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

James S. Ludwig
James Solomon Ludwig, 69, of Route 1, Box 226 A, Jane Lew, W.Va., formerly of Rio, W.Va., died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, in United Hospital Center, Clarksburg, W.Va.

Mr. Ludwig was born March 18, 1930, in Rio, the son of Alston and Nola Earl Ludwig. He worked for 42 years as a fueling manager at Washington Dulles International Airport.

He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War and a member of Sperry’s Run United Methodist Church, Baker, W.Va.

He married Joan Burgess in Romney, W.Va. Mrs. Ludwig died June 6, 1969.

Surviving are three daughters, Joy Belt of Jane Lew, Jeanne Hoover of Winchester, and Judi Lynch of Buckhannon, W.Va.; a brother, Austin Ludwig of Griffith, Ind.; a sister, Maxine Cross of Newton Falls, Ohio; four great-grandchildren; and five step grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Sperry’s Run United Methodist Church, Baker, with the Rev. Sherwin Tharp officiating. Burial will be in Sperry’s Run Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Loy-Giffin Funeral Home, Wardensville, W.Va.

Adrian E. Cooke
Adrian Emerson Cooke, 68, of 352 East 55th St., Brooklyn, N.Y., formerly of Winchester, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at his home.

Mr. Cooke was born Aug. 20, 1931, in Winchester, the son of George W. and Theresa S. Cooke. He was retired from King County Hospital, Brooklyn, after 35 years.

He was a graduate of Frederick Douglass High School.

Surviving are his wife, Katherine O. Cooke; four children, Adrian Cooke Jr. of Brooklyn, André Cooke of Las Vegas, Sharon C. Watkins, and Maurice Cooke of East Orange, N.J.; three brothers, Robert J. Cooke of Oakland, Calif.; Kenneth O. Cooke of Frederick, Md., and Bryan P. Cooke of Winchester; three sisters, Elizabeth C. Smith of Capitol Heights, Md., Dorothy C. Mason of Boyce, and Margaret C. Crawford of Winchester; 10 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a stepdaughter; two step grandchildren; and a step great-grandchild.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, Brooklyn.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday at Frank Baronne Funeral Home, Brooklyn.

Sheryl Ann Carter
Sheryl Ann Carter, 34, of 106 Blossom Drive, Winchester, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.

Ms. Carter was born Sept. 14, 1965, in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., the daughter of Charles R. and Fay E. Mauck Sell. She worked at World Wide Auto.

She was a member of Keystone Baptist Church.

Surviving with her father, of Winchester, are two daughters, Brandi Cooper and Breana Cooper, both of Winchester; and her maternal grandparents, Wanetta and Charles Mauck of Winchester.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home, Berryville, with Pastor Gilbert M. Mack officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Strasburg.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 202 N. Washington St., Winchester 22601.

Sarah M. Morgan
Sarah Mattie Morgan, 87, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, in Morgan County War Memorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs.

Mrs. Morgan was born June 24, 1912, in Collinwood, Tenn., the daughter of Yilley and Emma Todd Brewer. She was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.

She was married to Samuel Paul Morgan.

Surviving with her husband, are a son, Samuel Paul Morgan Jr. of Stephens City; and a sister, Kathline Walker of Birmingham, Ala.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Paula Morgan, and two sons, Richard Morgan and Boyd F. Morgan, are deceased.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Burial will be in Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

James A. Minogue
James Alexander Minogue, 87, formerly of Front Royal, died Dec. 20, 1999, in Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury, Irvington.

Mr. Minogue was born Nov. 8, 1912, in Duluth, Minn., the son of Lewis and Jennie MacMillan Minogue. He was a graduate of Duluth State Teachers College and Clark University, with post graduate education in urban and regional planning at George Washington University. He was retired from the Defense Intelligence Agency. He was a veteran of World War II and retired as a commander in the Naval Reserve.

He was an avid conservationist and gardener. He was active with the North American Rock Garden Society, which he served as national president, Bell Grove Plantation, Virginia Native Plant Society, Blandy Farm, and Samuels Public Library in Front Royal.

He was married to Margaret Spaven. His first wife was Adelaide Emley Minogue.

Surviving with his wife, are four daughters, Mary Anna Entwisle of Auburn, Ind., Sara M. Weitzel of Kansas City, Mo., Lucy M. Rowland of Athens, Ga., and Jennifer E. Minogue of Puslinch, Ont.; a brother, Robert L. Minogue of Cloquet, Minn.; and two granddaughters.

A memorial service will be at a later date in Front Royal.

Wayne E. Whitlock
Wayne Eugene “Bucky” Whitlock, 56, of 908 N. Braddock St., Winchester, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at his home.

Mr. Whitlock was born March 21, 1943, in Brandenton, Fla., the son of Willis and Rebecca Jones Whitlock. He was a stair builder with Century Stairs in Haymarket.

He was a graduate of Handley High School and a staff sergeant in the Army during the Vietnam War.

He was a member of Winchester Moose Lodge 1283.

He married Linda Morton on June 12, 1971, in Burlan, N.H.

Surviving with his wife, are two daughters, Theresa Marie Luttrell of Rio, W.Va., and Gabrielle Christine Whitlock of Winchester; a son, Robert Foster Whitlock of Winchester; a sister, Patricia Ann Loy of Stephens City; a brother, Wendell Allen “Pete” Whitlock of Winchester; and two grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Omps Funeral Home, with Charles Fisher officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Geoffrey P. Clark
Geoffrey Payne Clark, 58, of 1820 N. Quinn St., Arlington, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, in Fairfax Memorial Hospital, Fairfax.

Mr. Clark was born June 24, 1941, in California, the son of George C. and Elizabeth O’Brien Clark. He was a business consultant and self-employed. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of California and a masters degree in accounting from the University of Arizona.

He was a member of Cherrydale United Methodist Church.

He married Elizabeth Hopkins in 1986 in Arlington.

Surviving with his wife, are three daughters, Courtney Elizabeth Clark at home, Victoria Lee Clark of Albuquerque, N.M., and Alexandra Nicole Clark of Chicago; and a son, Brandt Westgate Clark of Waynesboro.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Cherrydale United Methodist Church, Arlington.

Omps Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Dr. David M. Frazer
Dr. David McCoy Frazer, 84, of 821 Calvert Town Drive, Prince Frederick, Md., formerly of Strasburg, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at Calvert Memorial Hospital, Prince Frederick.

Dr. Frazer was born Feb. 3, 1915, in Buelaville, the son of the Rev. Marshall C. Frazer and Clara Burrus Frazer. He practiced dentistry for 38 years in Washington, D.C., and retired in 1974.

He attended the University of Richmond and graduated from Georgetown School of Dentistry.

He was in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was married to Evelyn Fisher.

Surviving with his wife, are two sons, Mark Frazer of North Beach, Md., and Duncan Frazer of Chesapeake Beach, Md.; a daughter, Sally Klein of Lusby, Md.; three sisters, Elizabeth Frazer Brockman of Orange, Charlotte Frazer Lindsey of Danville, and Banks Riddell of Doswell; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Strasburg Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dan McCoig officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Strasburg.

Pallbearers will be Mark Frazer, Duncan Frazer, Galen Frazer, Chris Frazer, Andrew Frazer, and Scott Smith.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. Saturday at Stover Funeral Home, Strasburg.

Memorials may be made to Strasburg Presbyterian Church, 325 S. Holliday St., Strasburg 22657.

Guy R. McConnell
Guy Raymond “Mac” McConnell, 82, of 717 Washington St., Winchester, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at his home.

Mr. McConnell was born March 30, 1917, in Dodge City, Kan., the son of Guy A. and Grace I. Allison McConnell. He was retired from the Federal Railroad Administration where he was the Midwest regional director of the Department of Transportation in Chicago. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre.

He was a member of the Methodist faith, the Masonic Lodge of Elmhurst, Ill., the Winchester Moose Lodge, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was past president of the H.A.L.O.S.

He married Mary Laura Day on Oct. 27, 1940, in Rockville, Md.

Surviving with his wife, are three daughters, Ellen Sue Richardson of Elgin, Ill., Enid McConnell of Marshall, and Nancy Cies of Normal, Ill; a son, Guy R. McConnell Jr. of Palmer, Alaska; a brother, Dean McConnell of Gulf Shores, Alaska; and eight grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Trinity United Methodist Church, Catlett. Burial will be in Trinity Church Cemetery, Catlett.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Omps Funeral Home.

Alfred M. Kipps
Alfred Miller Kipps, 90, of 102 Hickory St., Winchester, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. Kipps was born Dec. 11, 1909, in Quicksburg, the son of George Kipps and Ada Kipps Weatherholtz. He was a truck driver for Novick Transfer and had been self-employed. He was a member of Winchester Eagles Aerie 824.

He married Lottie Mae Farmer on June 14, 1930, in Hagerstown, Md.

Surviving with his wife, are a son, Robert Lee “Bobby” Kipps of Winchester; a brother, Ralph Weatherholtz of Shenandoah Farms; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

An identical twin brother, Allen Kipps, is deceased.

A funeral was at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Omps Funeral Home, with Mark Peters and Steven Marshall officiating. Burial was be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were Alfred Carter, Tommy Kipps, John Reid, Leonard Williamson, James Shuler, Clinton Roberts, and members of the Winchester Eagles Aerie 824.

Memorials may be made to Round Hill Fire and Rescue Company, 769 Round Hill Road, Winchester 22602.
