Minnie N. Stokes
Minnie Naomi Stokes, 82, of Winchester, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, in a local nursing home.

Mrs. Stokes was born Dec. 28, 1918, in Shenandoah County, the daughter of Clarence and Valley Virginia Beddows Rinker. She was a homemaker.

She married Houston William Stokes on Nov. 25, 1933, in Strasburg. Mr. Stokes died Nov. 22, 1979.

Surviving are five daughters, Mable Virginia Clemons of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., Alice Marie Fugitt of Boyce, Stella Louise Painter of Upperville, Brenda Kay Malone of Winchester, and Sharon Ann Bradley of State Line, Pa.; two sons, Robert Lee Stokes of Boyce and Clarence Edward Stokes of Capon Bridge, W.Va.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Four sons, James William Stokes, Cecil Monroe Stokes, Richard Allen Stokes, and Larry Junior Stokes, and a daughter, Judy Ann Stokes, are deceased.

A graveside service will be at noon Friday at Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville, with the Rev. Larry Clark officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home, Berryville.

Anna P. Craig
Anna P. Craig, 71, of Fairfax Pike, White Post, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, in White Post.

Mrs. Craig was born Feb. 14, 1929, in Rappahannock, the daughter of James H. and Carrie Rutherford Smoot. She had been a seasonal worker at Byrd’s Cannery and Winchester Apple Growers.

She married Russell E. Craig on May 28, 1966, in Winchester. Mr. Craig died July 2, 1999.

Surviving are a son, Robert E. Rutherford of Frederick County; two daughters, Mary K. Booth of Middletown and Elizabeth A. See of White Post; two sisters, Patsy Carpenter of Boyce and Caroline Evans of Moline, Ill.; a brother, Winfield Smoot of Frederick County; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Macedonia United Methodist Church, with Evangelist Doug Hardman officiating. Burial will be in Macedonia Memorial Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Chad See, James Davey, Brian Booth, Todd Booth, Robert Luttrell Jr., Robert Welsh, Albert Franklin, and Kevin Michael Campbell.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Jones Funeral Home.

Charles W. Funk
Charles W. Funk, 51, of Middleway Pike, Bunker Hill, W.Va., died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, in the VA Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Mr. Funk was born June 7, 1949, in Winchester, the son of Herbert Welton Funk and Alice Barb Funk. He was a sheet metal worker at Winchester Regional Airport and had worked at P.W. Plumly Lumber Co.

He was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War.

He was a member of Elm St. Assembly of God Church, the Disabled American Veterans, and AARP.

He married Rhonda S. Cameron on May 5, 1987, in Winchester.

Surviving with his wife are three sisters, Nynoka “Okie” Minter of Wardensville, W.Va., June Strickler of Bunker Hill, and Catherine Powell Lewandowski of Winchester; and two brothers, Terry Funk of Colfax, N.C., and Jack Powell of Winchester.

A funeral will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Jones Funeral Home, with the Rev. Russell Wright officiating. Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Harry Stine, Doug Hartman, Steve Minter Jr., Glen Feltner, Rusty Harden, Jeffrey Lam, Carroll “Buster” Anderson, Kevin Foltz, Donald Houston, David Cameron, Denver Strickler, Danny Kinder, Peanut Funk, and Andrew Anderson Jr.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Karen A. Robinson
Karen A. Robinson, 49, of 115 Sherwood Lane, Winchester, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mrs. Robinson was born Nov. 19, 1951, in Frederick County, the daughter of Hugh C. and Orpha Didawick Anderson. She was a homemaker and a member of Round Hill United Methodist Church.

She married Wayne G. Robinson on June 12, 1971, in Frederick County.

Surviving with her husband are two sons, Darby A. Robinson and Paul J. Robinson, both at home; four sisters, Linda Adams, Lorraine Wolford, Barbara Crim, and Rebecca Merriner, all of Winchester; and two brothers, Larry Anderson of Glendale, Calif., and Gary C. Anderson of Winchester.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Jones Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Round Hill Fire and Rescue Squad, 769 Round Hill Road, Winchester 22603.

W. Ross Shire Jr.
William Ross Shire Jr., 59, of Collinsville Road, Cross Junction, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. Shire was born Oct. 2, 1941, in Mt. Joy, Pa., the son of William Ross and Frances Reed Shire. He was secretary/treasurer of the Warlocks Motorcycle Club of Virginia and a patch holder since 1994. He was a Navy veteran.

He married Susie Spaid on May 21, 1998, in Winchester.

Surviving with his wife and his parents, of Charlottesville, are three sons, William Ross Shire III of Mt. Jackson, Shiloh Shire of Cross Junction, and Paul Louis Shire of Townsend, Del.; two adopted daughters, Joyce Beebe of Augusta, W.Va., and Beth Irwin of Front Royal; a sister, Betty Faye Zimmerman of Charlottesville; and three grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Jones Funeral Home, with Pastor Chuck Davis officiating. Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Seal, Robert “Bear ” Kave, Billy Kitts, Greg Faircloth, Tom Fiddler, Jeff Beebe, and the Hen Club.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Catherine G. Homer
Catherine G. Homer, 80, of Pyramid Drive, Winchester, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mrs. Homer was born Sept. 9, 1920, in Moorefield, W.Va., the daughter of Wardnie R. and Sally Miller See. She was retired as a cashier at Kohl’s Department Store. She was a member of Kernstown United Methodist Church.

She was married to William Homer.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda Whitlock of Stephens City and Joyce Nelson of Winchester; two sisters, Betty Wood of Sarasota, Fla., and Dorothy Bennington of Kernstown; a brother, Guy See of Stephens City; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Shenandoah Memorial Park, with Pastor Mary Beth Blinn officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Jones Funeral Home.

Alice M. Oliver
Alice Maybell Oliver, 53, of 432 Page St., Berryville, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, in Georgetown University Hospital.

Mrs. Oliver was born Oct. 26, 1947, in Romney, W.Va., the daughter of Samuel Edward and Leoda Smith Combs. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God in Summit Point, W.Va.

She was married to Richard Oliver, who died in 1990.

Surviving are a son, Franklin Oliver of Berryville; five sisters, Barbara Lange of Middleway, W.Va., Violet Smith of Kearneysville, W.Va., Betty Sexton of Culpeper, Shirley Kirkenbach of Warrenton, and Connie Sexton of Middleburg; two brothers, David Combs of Berryville and Walter Combs of Kearneysville; and a grandchild.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home, Berryville, with the Rev. Douglas McKenzie officiating. Burial will be in Hillsboro Cemetery, Hillsboro.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Fred N. Barrow
Fred Nelson Barrow, 70, of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at his home.

Mr. Barrow was born June 8, 1930, in Bunker Hill, W.Va., the son of Stanley W. and Susie McFillin Barrow. He was retired from Burkhart Mail Contractors and served in the Marine Corps.

He was a member of South Berkeley Fire Department for 43 years and Newton D. Baker Post 896 of the VFW. He attended the Brethren in Christ Church in Bunker Hill, W.Va.

He was married to Vivian Custer.

Surviving with his wife are a son, Jim Barrow of Huntersville, N.C.; two brothers, Paul Barrow of Inwood, W.Va., and Max Barrow of Ranson, W.Va.; and a granddaughter.

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at South Berkeley Chapel, Inwood, with the Rev. Raymond R. Martin officiating. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.

Bret S. Claypool
Bret Scot Claypool, 42, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at his home.

Mr. Claypool was born April 16, 1958, in Berkeley Springs, the son of John Hugh and Flossie Elizabeth Hovermale Claypool. He was an aircraft mechanic and plastics specialist with Tiger Aircraft in Martinsburg, W.Va.

He attended Berkeley Springs High School and was of the Protestant faith. He was a member of Moose Lodge 1483 in Berkeley Springs.

Surviving with his parents, of Berkeley Springs, are a daughter, Kelly Lynn Shambaugh of Berkeley Springs; a son, Christopher Scot Claypool of Berkeley Springs; a sister, Martha Ann Clingerman of Broken Arrow, Okla.; a grandson, Steven Wayne Shambaugh Jr. of Berkeley Springs; and his companion, Elaine Malinowski Francis of Berkeley Springs.

A funeral will be at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Bessie A. Eversen
Bessie Agnes Eversen, 78, of Front Royal, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, in Warren Memorial Hospital, Front Royal.

Hilda Juanita Johnson Barbour, 88, of Front Royal, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, in Royal Haven Rest Home, Front Royal.

Charles D. Godwin
Charles Dennis Godwin, 100, of Hendersonville, N.C., died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at The Laurels of Hendersonville.

Mr. Godwin was born Dec. 20, 1900, in Preston County, W.Va., the son of James Robert and Louise Keiser Godwin. He was a store manager with Safeway in Washington, D.C., for 35 years and retired in 1963.

He was a member of Pentecostal Holiness Church, Hendersonville.

He was married to Hulda Orndorff. His first wife was Beulah Lance.

Surviving is a son, Joe Godwin of Alexandria.

A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Panorama Memorial Gardens, Warren County.

Friends may call anytime Monday at Stover Funeral Home, Strasburg.
