Edith R. Stonebraker
Edith Rebecca Stonebraker, 86, of Capon Bridge, W.Va., died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, in War Memorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

Mrs. Stonebraker was born April 12, 1914, in Hampshire County, W.Va., the daughter of Jobe and Zenia Wolford Corbin. She was a member of the Pentecostal faith.

She married John T. Stonebraker on April 25, 1931. Mr. Stonebraker died Oct. 12, 1986. Surviving are two daughters, Eva “Dukie” Lee of Capon Bridge and Shirley Meade of Gore; a brother, James S. Corbin of Romney, W.Va.; eight grandchildren, including Alton E. Wolfe Jr. and Johnnie White, both of Capon Bridge, whom she raised; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

A son, John T. Stonebraker Jr., is deceased.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Capon Bridge Christian Church, Capon Bridge, with the Rev. Jack Wardrope officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, Romney.

Pallbearers will be Dane Meade, Jesse Meade, Jesse Meade Jr., Fred White, Jesse Newhouse, and John Corbin.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Giffin Funeral Home, Capon Bridge.

William S. Wheatley Sr.
William Stansbury “Bill” Wheatley Sr., 95, of 213 W. Whitlock Ave., Winchester, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, in Winchester.

Mr. Wheatley was born Nov. 10, 1905, in Laurel, Del., the son of Guy and Lucy Parker Wheatley. He was a salesman and district manager with John W. Eshman and Son Feed Co. of Lancaster, Pa., and retired after 38 years.

He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and Vestry, Elks Lodge 867, and Winchester Host Lions Club, where he was past president from 1944-45. He was a charter member of the Izaak Walton League.

He graduated from Laurel High School and attended the University of Delaware.

His married Martha Weldon on May 5, 1935, in Middletown, Del. Mrs. Wheatley died Jan. 16, 1993.

Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Dolores “Dee” Wheatley of Winchester; and two grandchildren.

A son, William S. Wheatley Jr., is deceased.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Christ Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Douglas McCaleb and the Rev. Susan Buchanan officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Scott Arthur, William Bonelli, Brian Carroll, Robert Wheatley, Richard Layton, Fred O’Neal, William Battaile, Fred Williams, and members of the Winchester Host Lions Club and the Christ Episcopal Church Vestry.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.

Gladys V. Leake
Gladys Virginia Leake, 87, of 1011 Pennsylvania Ave., Winchester, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mrs. Leake was born April 13, 1913, in Gaylord, the daughter of Thomas and Eliza Hummer Zombro. She was a homemaker.

She was married to Aubrey Haywood Leake, who died in 1983.

Surviving are three daughters, Betty L. Lloyd of Berryville, Charlotte Golding of Chester, and Norma Malone of Winchester; two sons, John Edward Leake and Melvin Leake, both of Berryville; a sister, Audrey Lanham of Winchester; 20 grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

Three sons, Herbert Leake, Aubrey Haywood Leake Jr., and William B. Leake, are deceased.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Enders and Shirley Funeral Home, Berryville, with the Rev. Timothy McCollum officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Rodney Lloyd, Chris Presgraves, Darrell Lloyd, Dennis Golding, Aubrey Leake III, and Melvin L. Leake Jr.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Edward Trussell
Edward “Jack” Trussell, 81, of Bluemont, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, in Loudoun Hospital Center, Leesburg.

Mr. Trussell was born Sept. 4, 1919, in Sterling, the son of Cecil and Ruth Trussell.

He was married to Elizabeth P. Trussell.

Surviving are five daughters, Shirley Channell of Sterling, Barbara Robertson of Maine, Patsy Kidd of Bluemont, and Jill Kittle and Debbie Jones, both of Winchester; a son, Jack Trussell of Sterling; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Adams-Green Funeral Home, Herndon. Burial will be in Chestnut Grove Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 7203 Poplar St., Annandale 22003.

Elizabeth V. Palmer
Elizabeth Vallandingham Palmer, 85, of 82 Island Ford Lane, Strasburg, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, in Mont Vue Nursing Home, Luray.

Donald D. Birchwood
Donald D. “Don” Birchwood, 70, of Capon Bridge, W.Va., died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, in Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.

Clarence L. Lupton
Clarence L. Lupton, 69, of White Post, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.

Harry R. “Bobby” Rudy, 62, of Wardensville, W.Va., died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at his home.

Jeanne W. Borger
Jeanne Weadon Borger, 72, of 144 Bonnings Drive, Winchester, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mrs. Borger was born April 23, 1928, in Rectortown. Her birth name was Dorothy Townsend Nalls and her birth parents were John T. and Ruth Pearl Welch Nalls. She was adopted by William Welby Weadon and Katherine Dawson Weadon, at which time her name was changed to Jeanne Townsend Weadon.

She was retired as a health care provider at Loudoun Memorial Hospital, Leesburg.

She was a member of Roszell Chapel Untied Methodist Church in Philomont.

She married Henry M. Borger on Jan. 1, 1954, in Maryland.

Surviving with her husband are a daughter, Katherine B. Motley of Richmond; two sons, William Sterling Borger of Leesburg and David T. Borger of Berryville; two sisters, Lucy Jenkins of King George and Laura Cornell of Martinsburg, W.Va.; a brother, F.D.R. Nalls of Rixeyville; and six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Roszell Chapel United Methodist Church, Philomont, with the Rev. Ralph Buddenhagen officiating. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home, Berryville.

Garnett F. Copenhaver
Garnett F. Copenhaver, 68, of 196 Gun Club Road, Stephenson, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at his home.

Ruth V. Gilhooley
Ruth Virginia Gilhooley, 84, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., formerly of Montgomery County, Md., died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, in Valley View Nursing Home, Berkeley Springs.

Mrs. Gilhooley was born Nov. 22, 1916, in Cincinnati, the daughter of Harold and Ida Mae Davis Sanborn. She was manager of the Old Stein Pub at Dupont Circle in Washington, D.C., and retired in 1980.

She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Berkeley Springs, and attended public schools in Takoma Park, Md.

She was married to James Joseph Gilhooley.

Surviving are a son, John Randolph Crone of Nokesville; two daughters, Mary G. Potter of Germantown, Md., and Margaret A. “Tippy” Ivosevich of Berkeley Springs; a sister, Doris Hapner of Kalamazoo, Mich.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A private service is planned.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the home of her daughter, Margaret Ivosevich, in Berkeley Springs.

Memorials may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 1000 DuPont Road, Box 7, Morgantown, W.Va. 26505.

Hansel E. Lindamood
Hansel E. “Lindy” Lindamood, 69, of Stephens City, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.

Arrangements with Michael R. Phelps and Associates Funeral Directors, Stephens City, are incomplete.

Borger Service
The memorial service for Jeanne Weadon Borger, whose obituary was published Thursday, will be Saturday, Jan. 20, in Roszell Chapel United Methodist Church, Philomont, with the Rev Ralph Buddenhagen officiating. Burial will be private.

Garnett F. Copenhaver
Garnett Franklin Copenhaver, 68, of 196 Gun Club Road, Stephenson, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at his home.

Mr. Copenhaver was born April 21, 1932, in Shenandoah County, the son of Wade Hampton and Stelle May Lineweaver Copenhaver. He worked for O’Sullivan for more than 39 years.

He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Stephenson.

He was married to Martha Estep for 47 years.

Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Linda Beverly Melton of Stephenson; two brothers, George Copenhaver of Edinburg and Harry Copenhaver of Woodstock; a grandson; a step granddaughter; a great-granddaughter; and three step great-granddaughters.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Dellinger Funeral Home, Woodstock, with the Rev. Chad Estep officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, Jerome.

Pallbearers will be Clyde Craun, Sammy Craun, Dallas Fisher, Bob Estep, Rick Estep, and Gregory Estep.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Frances E. Hoover
Frances Elizabeth Hoover, 90, of Strasburg, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, in Tandem Health Care, Woodstock.

Miss Hoover was born Jan. 22, 1910, in Strasburg, the daughter of Archibald Lee and Laura Virginia Stickley Hoover. She was a retired third grade elementary school teacher.

She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the UDC.

She was the last member of her immediate family.

A graveside service will be at 4 p.m. Monday in Riverview Cemetery, Strasburg, with the Rev. David Howard officiating.

Friends may call anytime at Stover Funeral Home, Strasburg.

Memorials may be made to Strasburg Presbyterian Church, 325 S. Holliday St., Strasburg 22657.
