Robert L. Pizzano, 94, of Uniontown, Pa., formerly of Peyton Street, Winchester, died Sept. 5, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Pizzano was born Oct. 25, 1905, in Grindstone, Pa., the son of Angelo and Margaret Pizzano. He had owned Shenval Music and was past president of the Downtown Retailers Association.
He was a member of the Lions Club and Elks Lodge, and a supporter of Shenandoah University.
He was the last member of his immediate family.
Burial was in Redstone Cemetery, Brownsville, Pa.

William A. Saville Sr.
William A. Saville Sr., 76, of Augusta, W.Va., died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.

Rose L. Smith
Rose Lee Smith, 82, of Culpeper, formerly of Winchester, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, in Madison County.

William R. Swink
William Richard “Dick” Swink, 78, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Swink was born Jan. 1, 1922, in Morgan County, W.Va., the son of Oliver Henry and Ada Marie Place Swink. He retired in 1976 after 37 years as a carpenter in commercial building construction with W. Harley Miller Inc. of Martinsburg, W.Va.
He was a Protestant and attended Berkeley Springs High School.
He was a corporal in the Army during World War II with the 377th AAA Automatic Weapons Battalion. He served in Normandy and the Rhineland, and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon, the American Theatre Service Ribbon, and the World War II Victory Ribbon.
He was a member of Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post 60 and Risinger-Stotler VFW Post 4019, Berkeley Springs.
He was married to Mary Myrtle Hovermale for 50 years. Mrs. Swink died Sept. 2, 1998.
Surviving are four daughters, Glenna I. Bowers, Portia M. Henry and Janet M. Newby, all of Berkeley Springs, and Berniece Stotler of Vienna; three sons, Mark W. Swink and Raymond S. Bernhard, both of Berkeley Springs, and Jacob W. Bernhard of Great Cacapon, W.Va.; a sister, Julia E. Collis of Dallas; two brothers, Oliver H. Swink II of Berkeley Springs and John David Swink of Martinsburg; 19 grandchildren; five step grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Two sons, Robert C. Swink and Richard Lewis Swink, are deceased.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs, with Pastor Kenneth H. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Union Chapel Cemetery, Berkeley Springs, with military honors accorded by the Tri-State Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

K. Bersie Turner
Kelena Bersie Turner, 85, of Stephenson, formerly of Spencer, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, in a local nursing home.
Mrs. Turner was born Feb. 2, 1915, in Patrick County, the daughter of Huel Edgar and Naomi Corn Shephard. She was a member of Old Well Christian Church in Spencer and a Sunday school teacher.
She was married to Hosea E. Turner.
Surviving are two daughters, F. Dee Holler of Stephenson and Linda T. Dennis of Winchester; a sister, Elress Nichols of Horsepasture; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A son, Jimmy Turner, and a daughter, Peggy Ann Turner, are deceased.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Horsepasture Christian Church, with the Rev. Joe Hall officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

John A. Hamilton
John Ashley Hamilton, 24, of South Ox Road, Edinburg, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Hamilton was born Dec. 13, 1976, in Winchester, the son of James R. Hamilton and Judith A. Greene.
Surviving with his father, of West Lafayette, Ind., and his mother, of Edinburg, are his stepmother, Jane Hamilton of West Lafayette; his stepfather, Twyman Greene of Edinburg; a sister, Jennifer Catalano of Stephens City; a brother, Philip Hamilton of Stephens City; three half sisters, Nancy Jones of Amherst, Judy Updike of Waynesboro, and Mary Ann Saville of Winchester; two half brothers, Michael Greene of Scottsville and Ian Saville of West Lafayette; his grandmother, Margaret G. Greene of Stephens City; and his grandfather, Clark Hamilton of Fairview, W.Va.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ridings Chapel United Methodist Church, with the Rev. John Lock officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Greene, Sam Greene, Ritter Clevenger, David Clevenger, Mark Greene, and Chris Greene.

Betty M. Bordeaux, 72, of 1314 Reliance Road, Reliance, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.

Edward C. Curl
Edward Clinton “Bubby” Curl, 77, of Front Royal, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Curl was born Jan. 22, 1923, in Front Royal, the son of Charles Clinton and Agnes Walters Curl. He founded the Curl Plastering Co. in 1955, which restored the plaster cornice at the Capitol and the White House during the 1980s.
He was the owner of High Hope Ranch from 1947 through the 1970s, where he raised quarter horses that he rode in numerous parades.
He was a graduate of Warren County High School and played the saxophone in the marching band.
He was a staff sergeant in the Army with the Third Infantry Division during World War II and served in Africa, Italy, France, Germany, and Austria. He received the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Silver Star, the Presidential Unit Citation, and several foreign decorations, including France’s Croix De Guerre.
Surviving are his wife, Lucille Curl; a son, Fred Rhettberg; three daughters, Virinia Berthold, Kaye Rhettberg, and Susan Bowman; and 10 grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Maddox Funeral Home, Front Royal, with the Rev. Peg Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Front Royal.
Pallbearers will be Lloyd Partlowe, John Curl, Chuck Merchant, Al Atwood, Jimmy Leonard, and William O. van Deusen.

Raymond J. Williams
Raymond J. “Buddy” Williams, 70, of Greenwood Road, Winchester, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Williams was born Aug. 27, 1930, in Rectortown, the son of Stephen and Sara Eleanore Williams. He was an assistant at CarQuest in Winchester.
He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War, with the rank of staff sergeant.
He was a member of Faith Baptist Church, where he was an usher and performed maintenance work.
He married Nancy Schippan on Aug. 19, 1990, in Winchester.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, Donald R. Williams of Stephens City and Gary F. Williams of Winchester; two daughters, Susie Coulson of Kearneysville, W.Va., and LaDonna L. Williams of Winchester; a brother, Thomas Carter of Upperville; three sisters, Elizabeth Michael of Laurel, Md., Mary Lou Blake of Hyattsville, Md., and Katherine Cuevas of Landover, Md.; and six grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home, with Pastor Fred E. Hudson officiating. Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Don Williams, Gary Williams, Joshua Williams, Thomas Williams, Tom Carter, and Charles Quinnelly.

Charles E. Grandel Sr.
Charles Eldridge Grandel Sr., 63, of 220 Peppertree Lane, Winchester, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Grandel was born Jan. 9, 1937, in Frederick County, the son of Nolan N. and Bernice Keeler Grandel. He was a cook and retired in 1996 from Welcome Haven Nursing Home. He had worked at Duff’s Rebel Restaurant for 15 years and Van Guilders Nursing Home for 10 years.
He was in the Marine Corps during the Korean War, with the rank of private first class. He was a member of Relief United Methodist Church.
He married Polly Virginia Wilkins on April 2, 1971, in Kernstown.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, Charles E. Grandel Jr. of Hillsville and Christopher Grandel of Winchester; five stepchildren, Evangeline Ann Robinson of Inwood, W.Va., and Tony Knouse, Tina Dyke, Tracy Knouse, and Terry Knouse, all of Winchester; three sisters, Mildred Crossman, Mazie Huller, and Callie Sampson, all of Strasburg; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Relief United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robert C. Blinn officiating. Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.

Alma C. Orndorff
Alma Cunningham Orndorff, 82, of Berryville Pike, Winchester, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at her home.
Mrs. Orndorff was born May 3, 1918, in Clarke County, the daughter of Lewis and Maude Cameron Cunningham. She retired in 1983 from the maintenance department of Shenandoah College.
She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.
She married Maynard Orndorff on Jan. 12, 1935, in Winchester. Mr. Orndorff died Jan. 5, 1975.
Surviving are three daughters, Betty E. Cooper of Frederick County, Frances V. Orndorff of Pensacola, Fla., and Shirley O. Boyd of Thomasville, Ga.; three sisters, Sara Welch of Winchester, and Fannie Newlin and Susie Cunningham, both of Frederick County; two brothers, Hubert Cunningham of Winchester and Willie Cunningham of Frederick County; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A son, Leonard L. Orndorff, is deceased.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home, with Pastor Doug Bowers officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.

Gertrude A. Abrell
Gertrude Agnes Abrell, 87, of 1209 Lockhart Circle, Winchester, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Abrell was born June 5, 1913, in Ruthsburg, Md., the daughter of Samuel and Signora Harris Riley. She was a private duty practical nurse.
She was a graduate of Chestertown High School, Chestertown, Md.
She was a member of Greensboro Baptist Church, Greensboro, Md., and the Woodmen of the World. She attended Boyce Baptist Church.
She married Charles Guy Abrell on June 22, 1936, in New Cumberland, Md. Mr. Abrell died Aug. 9, 1983.
Surviving are three daughters, Barbara Ann Bowery of Winchester, Betty Jean Duke of Las Vegas, and Helen Lee Shirley of Arlington, Texas; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Judith M. Abrell, is deceased.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Mount Hebron Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Ken H. Smith officiating.

Edith C. Householder
Edith Cordelia Householder, 74, of P.O. Box 41, Rippon, W.Va., died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, in Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.
Mrs. Householder was born Oct. 4, 1926, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., the daughter of Harry V. and Agnes Dawson Hovermale. She was a member of the Methodist faith.
She was married to Charles W. Householder, who died Nov. 5, 1991.
Surviving are three daughters, Angela Barrow of Winchester, Shiela K. Burkhart of Thurmont, Md., and Vickie Marie Gilman of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; five sons, Charles Warren Householder Jr. of Kempton, Ind., Anthony Wayne Householder and David Steven Householder, both of Ranson, Dennis Preston Householder of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Daniel Taylor Householder of Rippon; a brother, Leroy Hovermale of Thurmont; 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A service is planned for a later date.
