Esther G. Whitacre
Esther Goode Whitacre, 92, of 547 Apple Pie Ridge Road, Winchester, formerly of Whitacre, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mrs. Whitacre was born Oct. 12, 1907, in Frederick County, the daughter of the Rev. Sewell J. and Rhoda B. Anderson Goode.

She was executive secretary to the administrator of Montgomery County Social Services League.

She was the oldest member of Ebenezer Christian Church in Gore and taught the Adult Bible class. She was historian for the Valley District of the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, for 30 years and a member of the North Frederick Extension Homemakers Club for 60 years.

She was a member of the Blue Ridge Democratic Women’s Club and the first Frederick County representative to the Silver Haired Legislature.

She married Landon B. Whitacre on Sept. 5, 1931, in Winchester. Mr. Whitacre died April 12, 1961.

Surviving are a daughter, Rhoda W. Kriz of Winchester; a sister, Ruth G. John of Roanoke; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Ebenezer Christian Church, with the Rev. C. Douglas Smith officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joseph E. Maddox Jr., S. Landon Maddox, John C. Maddox, Michael L. Maddox, Richard P. Kriz, and James W. Fletcher.

Memorials may be made to Ebenezer Cemetery, c/o Joan Whitacre, HC 34, Box 7, Bloomery, W.Va. 26817.

Effie N. Welty
Effie N. Welty, 80, of Cedarmeade Ave. died Sunday

Oct. 1, 2000, in the Winchester Medical Center.

She was born Nov. 26, 1919 in Scottdale, Pa. She was the daughter of Minnie Stoner and David Nez.

She was a retired manager of Elm’s Motel in Winchester and a member of the First United Methodist Church.

She was married to Melvin E. Welty who died in January of 1980.

Survivors include a daughter, Melinda Robertson of Winchester; and four grandchildren. Her son, David Welty, is deceased.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Shenandoah Memorial Chapel with the Rev. David Burrough officiating. Burial is at Shenandoah Memorial Park. Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Jones Funeral Home.

James O Baughman
James O. Baughman died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at the V. A. Medical Center in Martinsburg, W. Va.

Arrangements are incomplete and are being handled by the Jones Funeral Home.

Susanna L. Woodall
Susanna L. Woodall, 87, of Strasburg, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, at her home.

She was born June 25, 1913, in Baltimore, Md. She was the daughter of Joseph V. and Elizabeth Monath Vingling.

She was a homemaker, a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

She married Noble W. Woodall July 8, 1929, in Washington, D. C. Survivors include three daughters, Louise W. Smith of Strasburg, Suzanne W. Demski of Winchester, and Carole Haker of Ellicott City, Md.; three sons, Noble J. Woodall of Nags Head, N.C., Jacob L. Woodall and Brent J. Woodall, both of Winchester; a sister, Leonora Hammel of Baltimore, Md.; a brother, Joseph R. Yingling; 30 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. Her son, Wilmer R. Woodall, is deceased.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Jones Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Shenandoah Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Robert V. Smith Jr., Noble W. Woodall II, Gregory J. Demski, Wilmer R. Woodall, Eric L. Woodall, Jason B. Haker, Cary W. Smith, James J. Woodall, Kevin W. Demski, David L. Woodall, B. Thomas Demski, J. Travis Woodall, and Brian K. Woodall.

Dorothy H. Tayler
Dorothy H. Tayler, 89, of Shenandoah Valley WestminsterCanterbury died Friday Sept. 29, 2000, at her home.

She was born May 12, 1911, in Wollaston, Mass. She was the daughter of James Willard and Blanche Gertrude Boyle Hallett.

She was a homemaker and helped organize the Winchester Meals on Wheels program.

She married Frank E. Tayler June 12, 1937 in Detroit, Mich. He died July 4, 1998.

Survivors include two sons, Douglas H. Tayler of Detroit and Willard E. Tayler of Reno, Nev.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Jones Funeral Home with the Rev. G. Edward Dunlap officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Detroit.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s on the Hill Episcopal Church, 1527 Senseny Rd., Winchester, Va. 22602.

Ester G. Whitacre

Gerald G. Gum Sr.
Gerald Gene Gum Sr., 75, of 9625 Cadet Road, New Market, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, at his home.

Mr. Gum was born Oct. 20, 1924, in Elkins, W.Va., the son of Clyde and Carol Phillips Gum.

He was a supervisor for Columbia Gas Co. and had retired.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, with the rank of staff sergeant.

He married Helen Colene Johnson on Jan. 26, 1943. Mrs. Gum died July 16, 1990.

Surviving are two sons, Gerald G. Gum Jr. of New Market and Terry Allen Gum of Plano, Texas; a daughter, Sharon A. Baker of Winchester; two sisters, Lisa L. Hill of Elkins and Yvonne Lloyd of Lorraine, Ohio; and a brother, Edward Gray Gum of Elkins.

A graveside service will be at 2:45 p.m. today in Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, New Market.

Friends may call anytime at the Gum home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Rockingham Memorial Hospital, 235 Cantrell Ave., Harrisonburg 22801; or to a local hospice.

Lucie E. Triplett
Lucie Elizabeth Triplett, 89, of Hayfield, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, in a local nursing home.

Mrs. Triplett was born Nov. 13, 1910, in Hayfield, the daughter of Robert Walter and Annie Eliem Orndorff White. She was a homemaker.

She married Russell Robert Triplett on Nov. 18, 1933, in Winchester.

Surviving are a daughter, Shirley T. Grove of Martinsburg, W.Va.; a son, Robert B. Triplett of Hayfield; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

A funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Jones Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Schoof officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Hayfield.

Pallbearers will be Robert E. Ramey, Linden R. Ramey Jr., Richard A. Ramey, David W. Ramey, Phillip D. Ramey, and Roger Ramey Jr.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Francis M. Pyne
Francis Milton Pyne, 84, of Front Royal, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. Pyne was born May 19, 1916, in Riverton, the son of Daniel Franklin and Ada Ellen Tharpe Pyne.

He was an electrician with Potomac Edison for over 40 years.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 29th Infantry. He was wounded during the D-Day invasion of Omaha Beach, Normandy, and was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was a member of the Front Royal Church of the Brethren and VFW Post 1860.

He was married to Della M. Pyne.

Surviving are two daughters, Wanda L. Van Cook of Front Royal and Patricia P. Hudnall of Fairfax; two sisters, Mary Bailey of Front Royal and Myrtle Bradford of Hagerstown, Md.; and three grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. today a Maddox Funeral Home, Front Royal, with the Rev. Bobby Whetzel officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Michael Van Cook, Keith Hudnall, Stuart Kuser, Patrick Morris, Harvey Bradford, and Richard Loy.

William J. Dudley
William Jerome Dudley of Summit Point, W.Va., formerly of the Eastern Shore, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.

Arrangements with Cartwright Funeral Home are incomplete.

Evaliene M. Bauserman
Evaliene Mae Bauserman, 65, of 2790 North Frederick Pike, Winchester, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mrs. Bauserman was born Dec. 4, 1934, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., the daughter of Ervin and Carrie Michael Wilson.

She retired after 12 years as a secretary with Dr. Reynolds W. Legge.

She attended Round Hill United Methodist Church.

She married Carl L. Bauserman on Aug. 23, 1953, in Winchester. Mr. Bauserman died in 1974.

Surviving are a daughter, Carletta “Carly” Bauserman of Winchester; two sons, Kenny Bauserman and Kevin Bauserman, both of Winchester; a sister, Mary C. Spaid of Lehew, W.Va.; and three grandchildren.

A daughter, Donna Bauserman, is deceased.

A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Round Hill United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Anthony Wadsworth and Pastor Chuck Davis officiating. Burial will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Hugh Hovermale, Roger Crosen, Terry Crosen, Kevin Perez, Doug Rinker, Stoney Crosen, Ken Burch, Steve Maddalena, Andy Anderson, John Bauserman, Dave Bauserman, Kenny Kump, and Dick Carter.

Kevin E. Copp
Kevin Edward Copp, 31, of Herndon, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, at his home.

Mr. Copp was born June 13, 1969, in Falls Church, the son of Harry W. and Daisy C. Clark Copp.

He worked as a deli manager for Giant Food.

Surviving with his parents, of Herndon, formerly of Winchester, are his wife, Leia Copp; and his stepchildren, Tonya and Garry.

A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Adams-Green Funeral Home, Herndon. A graveside service will follow at 11:45 a.m. in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ernest Nuccio Jr.
Ernest Nuccio Jr., 63, of Mountain Heights Road, Front Royal, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, in Warren Memorial Hospital, Front Royal.

Mr. Nuccio was born Nov. 8, 1936, in Queens, N. Y., the son of Ernest and Josephine Cassata Nuccio. He was retired and had owned a transmission shop in Manassas.

He was married to Abbie Porter.

Surviving with his wife are four daughters, Deborah Exarchou of Massapequa, N.Y., Susan Nuccio-Fakir of Queens, N.Y., Debra Farrell of Clearbrook, and Nancy Nuccio of Manassas; two sons, Lawrence Nuccio of Tampa, Fla., and Thomas Krohn of Mt. Sinai, N.Y.; a sister, Johanna Marino of Centerach, N.Y.; two brothers, Arthur Nuccio of Front Royal and Eugene Nuccio of Lake Ronkonroma, N.Y.; two stepdaughters, Lisa McKinnon of Chevy Chase, Md., and Sheri Nelson of Sterling; and nine grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Jones Funeral Home, with the Rev. Stanley J. Krempa officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.

A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends until 9 p.m.

Charles G. Casper
Charles Grant Casper, 48, of 105 Pennsylvania Ave., Winchester, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at his home.

Mr. Casper was born Oct. 18, 1951, in Philadelphia, the son of John A. and Dorothy L. Dova Casper.

He was a communication technician with Wang Corp. of Tysons.

Surviving with his father, of Punta Gorda, Fla., are two sons, John C. Casper and Joshua Grant Casper, both of Sterling; and two brothers, James Wesley Casper of Pottstown, Pa., and John Paul Casper of Annandale.

A private service is planned.

Wayne P. Smith
Wayne Philip Smith, 53, of Winchester, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. Smith was born Nov. 6, 1946, in Hanover, Pa., the son of Clyde A. and Grace Mary Noel Smith. He was self-employed and had retired.

He was a graduate of James Wood High School and the Radio Engineering Institute. He was an Army veteran and served in Korea.

He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.

Surviving are three brothers, Robert J. Smith, Gerald F. Smith, and Leo J. Smith, all of Winchester; and three sisters, Vivian S. Royston and Loretta S. Minghini, both of Winchester, and Myrna S. Grove of Martinsburg, W.Va.

A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park, with military honors accorded by VFW Post 2123.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.

Jeannie E. Boyd
Jeannie Elizabeth Boyd, 71, of Bentonville, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, in Warren Memorial Hospital, Front Royal.

Mrs. Boyd was born Jan. 3, 1929, in Pennsylvania, the daughter of Eckie Alexander and Corrine Brown Martin.

She was a mail clerk for Lam Associates and a member of St. Paul’s CME Church of Limeton.

She married Rufus Strother Boyd on Dec. 21, 1951.

Surviving with her husband are a brother, Thomas Martin of Detroit; and three sisters, Shirley McClure and Doris Harmon, both of Detroit, and Frances Folkes of Front Royal.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home, Front Royal, with the Rev. Queen Dickey officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Virginia C. Lemley
Virginia Clayton Lemley, 92, of 153 Lemley St., Strasburg, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, in Skyline Terrace Nursing Home, Woodstock.

Ms. Lemley was born Dec. 22, 1907, the daughter of Ernest Campbell and Bessie Keister Lemley. She was retired from Strasburg Silk Mill.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Strasburg, and Strasburg Senior Citizens.

Surviving is a sister, Cora Anna Wilkins of Strasburg.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Riverview Cemetery, Strasburg, with the Rev. James Baseler officiating.

Franklin D. Loveless Sr.
Franklin Delaney Loveless Sr., 60, of Rustburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at his home.

Mr. Loveless was born Sept. 15, 1940, in Warren County, the son of Frank and Lillian Silvious Loveless. He was a sawman with Burrus Lumber Co. in Lynchburg.

Surviving are his companion, Stella Jane Dickinson; a son, Roy Wade Loveless of Rustburg; two brothers, James Thomas Loveless and Robert Lee Loveless, both of Front Royal; four sisters, Rosa Lillian Funkhouser of Maurertown, Agnes Marie Loveless of Front Royal, and Mary C. Elrod and Dorothy L. Vaughan, both of Lynchburg; and Brian Edward Dickinson of Front Royal and Fern Louise Williams of Scottsville, whom he raised.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Maddox Funeral Home, Front Royal, with the Rev. Dottie Holden officiating. Burial will be in Bennett’s Chapel Cemetery.
