Coley
Selma "Maw" Carrico Coley, age 92, died Monday, December 31, 2001, in Lynchburg General Hospital in Lynchburg.
She was born June 12, 1909, in Smyth County.
She was the daughter of the late James and Alice Wolfe Carrico.
She was a member of the Lynchburg Church of God in Lynchburg.
Selma was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Gilbert Coley.
Surviving are one daughter, Elma Lee Price of Marion; one special loving granddaughter, Sharon Schweiger and husband, Jim, of Forest; two grandsons, Greg and Danny Coley of Powhatan; two very special great-grandchildren, Shawnya Gay Walker and Mindy Nicole Schweiger, both of Lynchburg; Daniel Justin, Heather and Holly Coley, all of Powhatan; two great-great- grandchildren, Jerid Chase Prater and Madison Elizabeth Walker both of Lynchburg; one sister, Mary Kate Lyons of Marion. In addition to several special nieces and nephews, a special family friend, Charles Burkes of Lynchburg; one special furry companion, Cosmo.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 2, 2002, at the Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, with the Rev. Joseph Wilkins, Rev. Charlie Harbin and Rev. Gary Jones officiating. A graveside service was held Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at 1p.m., at Rose Lawn Cemetery.
Seaver- Brown Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Dills
James Robert Dills, age 78, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, in James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Mountain Home, Tenn.
He was born in Russell County and was a son of the late Mose and Susie Armstrong Dills, both Tazewell County natives.
He had served in the U.S. Army and was a World War II disabled veteran. He was a lifelong resident of the Cedar Bluff area, and a member of Tazewell Worship Center in Tazewell. He was an avid musician, playing steel and lead guitar with various bands throughout the area for many years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Patton and Georgia Markam; five brothers, Stuart, Paul, Felix, Rufus and John Dills.
Survivors are his wife, Gertrude Brown Dills, two sons, Bob Dills of Dacula, Ga., and Randall Dills of Camoron, N.C.; one sister, Agnes Hagar of Conover, Ohio; and four grandchildren, Chris Dills, John Dills, Blake Dills and Catherine Dills.
Funeral services will be held today, Jan. 5, 2002, at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with the Rev. Barry Absher officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.

Dotson
Robert Lee Dotson, age 57, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, at home.
He was born in Russell County and the son of the late Omer Dotson and Marty Catherine Duty Dotson. Mr. Dotson was of the Holiness faith.
Surviving are one daughter, Elizabeth Diane Crampton and one granddaughter, Stephanie Kay Crampton, both of Saltville; five sisters, Ella Williams, Bluefield, W.Va., Judy Dotson, Cleveland, Phyllis Deskins, Louise Surcey and Norma Jean Fields, all of Lebanon; one brother, Sam J. Dotson, Castlewood; three half-sisters, Mattie Hall and Lucille Harris, both of Gate City, and Audrey Cloyd, Kingsport; also several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2002, in the Combs Funeral Service Chapel in Lebanon with the Rev. Don Stanley and the Rev. Less Royston officiating. Interment followed in the Ketron Memorial Gardens in Lebanon.
Combs Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Fouse
Francis Fouse, age 91, of Bel Air, Maryland died at his home on Jan. 12, 2002.
He was born in Smyth County and was the son of the late William Patterson and Mary Elizabeth Richardson Fouse. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, William Fouse, Garland Fouse, Harry Fouse; three sisters, Lillie Snow, Maggie Fouse, Nora Tuggle, and one grandchild, Raymond L. Mullins.
He worked for over 20 years at the Bata Shoe Co., Belcamp, Maryland and ran the elevator, and was known as Roy. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ in Level, Maryland, and loved going to church and singing old hymns.
Mr. Fouse is survived by his wife of 68 years, Nannie Belle Griffey Fouse; two sons, Henry P. Fouse and Edward L. Fouse, both of Bel Air, Md.; five daughters, Virginia E. Rutherford, Lillian J. Jennings, Josephine F. Barker, Brenda L. Roark, all of Bel Air, Md. and Nancy L. Mullins of Rising Sun, Md; one brother, Henry L. Fouse of Atkins; three sisters, Katherine Tuggle of Saltville; Minnie Mathews of Forest Hill, Md; Martha Werback of Abingdon, Md; 14 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services were held in McComas Funeral Home P. A. in Abingdon, Md. on Monday, Jan. 14, 2002 at 11a.m. with Pastor Oscar Roark and Nancy Mullins officiating. Interment was in Bel Air Memorial Gardens, Bel Air, Md.
McComas Funeral Home, Abingdon, Md., was in charge of arrangements.

Frye
Erma Grubb Frye, age 76, of Wytheville, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
She was a daughter of the late Walter S. and Georgia Etter Grubb. She was a member of the Evergreen United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, H. Peyton Frye of Wytheville; a son and daughter-in-law, Foye and Peggy Frye of Marion; a sister, Dolly Robinson of Wytheville; a grandson, Billy Frye of Blacksburg; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 2 p.m. at Evergreen United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bob Carbary and Sherman Dixon officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Evergreen Church Cemetery Fund or the American Cancer Society.

Johnston
Chester D. "Bud" Johnston Jr., age 78, died Saturday, January 12, 2002, in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mr. Johnston was born in Glade Spring to the late Chester D. Sr. and Dorothy Carroll Johnston and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by a special nephew Jerry Hall.
Survivors include: two sisters and brothers-in-law: Janie J. & Herman "Buddy" Hall, Chilhowie and Carroll J. and Marvin D. Gullion, Marion; nine nieces and nephews, Brenda J. Waddell, Atkins, Gary W. Hall, Clintwood, Cathy L. Lewis, Myrtle Beach, S.C., Jackie McVey, Bristol, Becky J. Hall, Chilhowie, Steve H. Hall, Pearisburg, Chris Gullion, San Antonio, Texas, Pam Poe, Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Jenni Gosnell, Marion. Many friends also survive.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 14, 2002, from the Bradley Funeral Home Chapel in Marion with the Rev. Harry Howe and the Rev. Paul Jones officiating. Interment followed in Roselawn Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to Atkins Volunteer Fire Department or the Marion Life Saving Crew.

Lambert
Myrtle Gilbert Lambert, age 95, of Wytheville, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, in the Edgemont Health Care Center, Wytheville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Lambert.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Judson and Barbara Lambert of Wytheville; three sisters, Vivian F. Wampler of Marion, Edna Blessing of Wytheville, and Hazel Brinkley of Lenoir, N.C.; one grandson, John Lambert of Washington, D.C.; a special niece, Helen Burkett of Marion; a special nephew, Don Wampler of Marion; and several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held today, Jan. 16, at 2 p.m. in the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel, Wytheville, with the Rev. Ann Blair officiating. Interment will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Owens
Lealand Jackson Owens, age 58, of Chilhowie died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at his home.
He was born April 18, 1943, the son of the late Elmer and Carrie Collins Owens of Smyth County. Mr. Owens was a veteran of the Armed Forces through his service in the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Frazier.
Survivors include two brothers and sister-in-law, Robert E. Owens, Carter and Gaile Owens, all of Chilhowie; one sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Ed Stanberry of Chilhowie. Several loving nieces, nephews and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002 at Mountain View United Methodist Church Cemetery with Pastor Bobby Dunn officiating. Military honors will be rendered by Francis Marion VFW Post 4667. The family will welcome visitors at the home of Linda and Ed Stanberry in Chilhowie. The family requests memorial donations be made to the Chilhowie Fire Department.

Rice
Francis Marion Rice, age 89, of Copper Hill, Va., died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, in Lewis-Gale Medical Center, Salem.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Frye Rice. He was a former resident of Seven Mile Ford, and a member of the Seven Mile Ford United Methodist Church, He served with the Seabees on Wake Island during World War II.
He is survived by one daughter, Kitty R. Burnette, Copper Hill, Va.; one sister, Beulah Owens, Stuart; one grandson, Wayland Burnette, Jr., Copper Hill, Va.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 24, at 2 p.m. in Williams Funeral Home Chapel, Chilhowie, with the Rev. John Graham officiating. Interment was at the Middle Fork Cemetery.
Williams Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Sheets
Charlie Wayne Sheets, age 50, died Tuesday Jan. 22, 2002, in the Smyth County Hospital, Marion.
He was born in Smyth County to the late James Charlie and Chessie Power Sheets.
He was preceded in death by a daughter Laura Vivian Sheets, and a brother, James Charlie Sheets, Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Resa Sheets; two sons and daughter-in-law, Christopher Sheets of the home; Daniel and Evelyn Sheets, Chilhowie; two daughters and son-in-law, Crystal Sheets of the home; Amy and Andy Norman, of Elizabethton, Tenn.; one brother and sister-in law, Jimmy and Betty Sheets of Atkins; seven sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Tom Gibson, Cumberland Gap; Kathy and David Carrico, and Martha and Rev. Jerry Creasy, all of Chilhowie; Margaret and Walt Blevins, Marion; Carolyn and Roy Russell, Atkins, Joyce and Buck Sexton, Marshville, N.C.; and Vickie and Lee Yates, Meadowview; four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 23, at 8 p.m. from the Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services were held Thursday, Jan. 24, in the South Fork Cemetery.

Sheets
Lona Adams Sheets, age 67, of Damascus died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at her residence.
She was a native of Washington County, and had lived in Elizabethton, Tenn. for many years prior to moving back to Damascus in 1987. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Blanch Osborne Adams. She was a member of Hunter First Baptist Church in Elizabethton, Tenn.
She is survived by five daughters, Mary Colean, of Quarryville, Pa.; Geneva Harris of Odessa, Texas; Marie Slagle of Elizabethton, Tenn.; Sonja Guilfoyle and Linda Kelly, both of Derry, N.H.; two sons, Harrell Jennings, of Wheeling, W.Va.; and Edgar Jennings, of Elizabethton Tenn.; four sisters, Naomi Rodriques, of Wilmington, Del.; Martha McMillin of Peach Bottom, Pa.; Ruby McKinnis, of Mountain City, Tenn.; and Audrey McConnell, of Damascus; four brothers, John Adams, of Newark, Del.; Gene Adams, of Federalsburg, Md.; Ronnie Adams, of Baltimore, Md.; and Paul Adams, of Damascus; 18 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was conducted Wed. Jan. 23, in the Garrett Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Adams officiating. A private burial was in the Adams Family Cemetery in Damascus.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to the Shepherd’s Inn, P.O. Box 2214, Elizabethon, Tenn., 37644.
