Virginia, U.S., Marriage Records, 1936-2014

Davidson
Luther A Davidson, age 63, of Saltville died Monday, March 4, 2002, at his home.
He was retired from American of Martinsville in Chilhowie and was of the Holiness faith.
Survivors include: three sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Sherry Davidson of Goose Creek, S.C., Jeff and Patty Davidson of Saltville and Darryl and Lynn Davidson of Chilhowie; one daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Rodney Dye of Glade Spring; three sisters, Virgie Surber, Christine Olinger and Janice Aker, all of Saltville; 11 grandchildren, Stephanie, Josh, Colt, Dylan, Trish, Brandy, Justin, Kayla, D.J., Brian and Leslie; one great-grandson, Payton Jr.; several nieces and nephews; and a host of good friends.
Funeral services will be conducted today, Wednesday, March 6, at 2 p.m. at D.R. Henderson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Wade Kestner, the Rev. Roby Hayden and the Rev. David Olinger officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Rose Cemetery in Glade Spring. The family received friends Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Mowles
Thelma Robertson Mowles, age 88, of Saltville died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at Valley View Health Care in Chilhowie.
She was born in Giles County, the daughter of the late R.C. and Sylvia Robertson. She had lived in Harmon before moving to Saltville in 1982. She was a member of Harmon Memorial Baptist Church and was a retired teacher with the Buchanan County School System, working at Harmon Elementary School. She was a winter resident of Okeechobee, Fla.
Survivors include: her husband of 65 years, Jim Mowles; her son and daughter-in-law, Dick and Carol Mowles of Jacksonville, Fla.; her daughter and son-in-law, Sunny and Marvin Shaw of Calhoun, Ga.; and three grandchildren.
A graveside funeral service was conducted Monday, March 4, at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum at Forest Hill in Abindgon with the Rev. Willard Owens officiating. The family received friends Sunday evening at Farris Funeral Home.
Farris Funeral Home in Abingdon was in charge of the arrangements.

Russell
Fanny Virginia Russell, age 86, of Marion died Monday, March 4, 2002.
Bradley's Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Sexton
David Millard Sexton, age 49, of Thomasville, N.C., died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Mr. Sexton was born May 25, 1952, in Smyth County to James J. Sexton and Nettie Mae Lowe Sexton. He worked as a concrete finisher. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister Carolyn Nicholas,
Survivors include: his wife, Judy Sexton, of the home; two daughters, Angela Hulin and Ashley Sexton, both of Thomasville, N.C.; his mother, Nettie Mae Lowe Sexton of Lexington; four sisters, Anna Hill, Dorothy Crotts, Connie Sexton and Donna Colley, all of Lexington; and one grandson, Austin Sexton.
Funeral services and burial were held in North Carolina.

Thomas
Laire Trail Thomas, age 90, of Vinton died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas M. Thomas, one son, Harold Williams, one brother, Mack Trail, and two sisters, Agnes Haven and Ovella Ferguson.
Survivors include: daughters and sons-in-law, Charlotte and Norman (Butch) Culbreth of Vinton, Joan and Frank Bartley of Moneta, Golde Haynes of Ridgeway and Viola Lurnaden of Tuscan, Ariz.; sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph Douglas (Jay) and June Thomas of Roanoke and Roger and Jo Thomas of Troutville; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; sisters, Pauline Joy and Naomi Atwood ; and brothers, Roy Trail, Edward Trail and Harry Trail.
Funeral services were held from Oakey's Vinton Chapel on Saturday, March 2, with the Rev. Frank W. Feather officiating. Burial was at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Holmes
"Jimmy" James Floyd Holmes, age 35, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Patrick Holmes; his paternal grandfather, Patrick Campbell Holmes; and his maternal grandmother, Bertha Carter.
Survivors include his wife, Amy Hogston Holmes of Tannersville; one daughter, Brittnie Carter Holmes of Tannersville; one son, Levi Patrick Holmes of Tannersville; mother and stepfather, Barbara and David Fazelnia of Charlotte, N.C.; one brother, Bobby Holmes of Charlotte, N.C.; two half-sisters, Roya Fazelnia and Dara Fazelnia, both of Charlotte, N.C.; maternal grandfather, Leon Carter of Rich Valley; paternal grandmother, Margaret Taylor Holmes of Tannersville; and mother-in-law, Cleadys Griffin.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, at Henderson Funeral Chapel with Rev. Charles Blevins officiating. Graveside services were held Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at 2 p.m. at the Ridgedale Cemetery.
D.R. Henderson Funeral Home of Saltville was in charge of the arrangements.

Hutton
William K. Hutton, age 62, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, in Johnson City, Tenn.
He is survived by one daughter, Michelle Denise Trout of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one son, William L. Hutton of Chilhowie; one sister, Martha Jayne Aker of Chilhowie; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Kyle Hutton, William Jacob Hutton, Kendra, Erin and Jaime Trout.
Funeral services will be held today, Feb. 20, 2002, at 2 p.m. at the Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rev. Mark Lundy officiating. Burial will follow in Attoway Cemetery.

Kirk
Jean Cassell Kirk, age 62, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, in Peachtree Christian Hospice in Duluth, Ga.
She was a member of Liberty Bible Church, a Free Will Baptist congregation in Gainesville, Ga. She had been a realtor in Florida and Georgia since 1977.
Survivors include: husband, Dale Kirk, Gainesville, Ga.; one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Sean Lasch, Jacksonville, Fla.; one son, William Kirk, Atlanta, Ga.; five sisters, Norma Kidd, Richmond, Louise Meck, Ceres, Martha Bowman, Bristol, Va., Doris Fogleson, Ceres, and Carol Crabtree, Rich Valley; and one brother, Frank Cassell, Axton, Va.
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel wit h the Rev. Bill McKinney officiating. Burial followed in the Kirk Family Cemetery in Sugar Grove. The family received friends at the chapel on Thursday evening.

Pickle
Fred N. Pickle, age 73, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Pickle; and three brothers, Howard Pickle, John Pickle and William Pickle.
Survivors include: three daughters, Candy Parks and Pam Greer, both of Atkins, and Mellaine Ishihara of Marion; four grandchildren, Jamie Pickle, Andy Parks, Jon Luke Ishihara and Timothy Ishlhara; four sisters, Mable Umbarger and Ruth Call, both of Atkins, Shirley Farmer of Marion and Jean Thomas of Groseclose; two brothers, Clifford Pickle and Don Pickle, both of Groseclose; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 11.00 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Bob Neace officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Groseclose. The family received friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.

Thompson
Lucy Vera Thompson, age 55, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, in Smyth County Community Hospital.
She was born in Smyth County to the late Franklin Kimball and Hazel Leonard Buchanan. She worked at Virginia House Furniture and the Village Hotel.
Survivors include: two daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Doug Poston of Sugar Grove and Pat and Johnny Fontellon of Ohio; five sisters, Carolyn Buchanan of Atkins, Joann Phillips of Claremont, N.Ca., Pearl Nichols, Katherine Goad and Janie Gonzalez, all of Aberdeen, Md.; eight grandchildren, Bridgett Hutton, Destiny Poston, Dougie Poston, Heather Poston, Tiffany Poston, Florence Fontellon, Laura Fontellon and Hunter Fontellon; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday from the Bradley's Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Sage officiating. Interment will be in the Ridgedale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Tibbs
Earl Tibbs, age 81, of Marion died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, in the Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn.
Mr. Tibbs was born in Smyth County to the late Will and Malinda Tibbs and was preceded in death by a daughter, Melinda Tibbs. He retired from Norfolk and Western Railroad with 38 years of service and was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his wife of 49 years, June D. Tibbs; one daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Jeff Harrington of Piney Flats, Tenn.; one son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Liz Tibbs of Noblesville, Ind.; four grandchildren, Bryce Tibbs, Brandi Tibbs, Joshua Harrington and Michael Harrington; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, from the Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel in Marion with Pastor Gary Trout officiating. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Roselawn Cemetery. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations can be made to the Marion Life Saving Crew.

Burkett
Sanders Burkett, age 81, of Marion died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at his home. He was retired from Brunswick Corp. after 31 years of service.
Survivors include: five daughters, Darlene Speer of Marion, Susie Wells of New Kent, Jackie Widener of Marion, Bonnie Burkett of Richmond and Jo Roten of Forest; one son, Gregg D. Burkett of Marion; one brother, Rufus Burkett of Saltville; five grandchildren, Kim Blevins, Eddie Speer, Tanya Rosser, Crystal Pierce and Joshua Widener; five great-grandchildren, Siera Speer, Paxton Rosser, Greyson Peirce, Hank Rosser and Lynsey Jo Blevins; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Hutton and Brother Glen Hopkins officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgedale Cemetery. Family received friends from 6 till 8 p.m. Wednesday at D.R. Henderson Funeral Home.

Dillman
Trubie Dillman, age 76, of Sugar Grove died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, in Smyth County Community Hospital.
He was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Army. He was self-employed in construction as a concrete finisher.
Survivors include: his wife, Blanche Jonas Dillman of Sugar Grove; five daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and John Ratcliffe of Atkins, Patricia and Jim Stowers of Marion, Elizabeth and Ronny King of Bland, Sandra and Dan Vipperman of Abingdon, and Carolyn Stewart of Manassas; three sons and daughters-in-law , Bobby and Debby Dillman Vass, N.C., Daniel and Donna Jonas of Manassas Park and Rickey Jonas of Sugar Grove; special cousins, Joe and Donna Dillman and George and Donna Dillman; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, Feb. 24 at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Conner officiating. Burial will follow in Slemp Cemetery in Sugar Grove where full military rites will be conducted by Marion V.F.W. Post #4667. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Sugar Grove Life Saving Crew, c/o Carol Choate, P.O. Box 108, Sugar Grove, VA 24375.
