McClaugherty
Aldah Thompson McClaugherty of Blountville, Tenn., formerly of Marion, 98, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002, at Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, Tenn.
She was a member of Marion Baptist Church, Marion Chapter #72 Order of the Eastern Star and Blanche White Circle. She was retired from Western Union where she was the manager for 45 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Filmore Thompson and Leanna Schaub Thompson Linkous and her husband, J.C. "Mutt" McClugherty.
Survivors include: several nieces and nephews, including Shyrlyn Leonard of Blountville, Tenn.; great-nieces, Amy Bunn of Blountville, Tenn., Molly Millard of Bristol, Tenn., and Tiffany Jackson of Blountville, Tenn.; great-nephews, Michael McCall of Jacksonville, Fla., Michell McCall of Bluff City, Tenn., and Nyle Leonard of Blountville, Tenn; and several great-great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 9, at Marion Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Ross officiating. Burial followed in Rose Lawn Cemetery.
Seaver-Brown Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Miller
Florence B. "Flossie" Miller of Rural Retreat, 88, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002, at Francis Marion Manor in Marion.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Miller Sr.
Survivors include: one daughter, Marlene P. Murray of Marion, two sons, Kenneth P. Pruitt of Leola, Penn., and John Henry "Rusty" Miller Jr. of Vinton; a sister, Martha B. Cummings of Vinton; a special friend and sister-in-law, Jean F. Miller of Rural Retreat; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, at the Mountain View Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Sage officiating.
The family suggests that those who prefer, may make memorials to the American Cancer Society. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Lindsey Funeral Home.
Lindsey Funeral Home, Rural Retreat, is in charge of arrangements.

Talbert
Ruby Lee Talbert of Saltviile, 80, died Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
She was a member of Tates Chapel Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Sanders "Daisy" Jones and Mrs. Penny "Clemmie" Haynes.
Survivors include: one niece, Mrs. Bill "Faye" Hopkins of Kingsport, Tenn.; four nephews, David Jones of Townsend, Tenn., Bobby Jones of Chilhowie, Thomas "Toby" Haynes of Saltville, and James "Jim" Haynes of Crossville, Tenn.; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Sept.1, at Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Sharon Wiley officiating. Graveside committal service was conducted Monday, Sept. 2, at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saltville Rescue Squad, Tates Chapel Methodist Church or Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
D.R. Henderson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Craig
Margaret E. Craig, 80, died Sunday, July 27, 2003 in Grace Health Care in Abingdon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Clifford Craig, and one brother.
She is survived by one son, Herbert Guthy of Calif.; two daughters, Helga Burch of Louisville, Ky., and Patricia Craig of Tannersville; one brother; five sisters; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
At the request of Mrs. Craig, there will be no services.

Crutchfield
Inez Bean Crutchfield, 96, died Friday, July 25, 2003, in the Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie.
She was the daughter of the late Lovelace Lock and Martha Jane Taylor Bean and widow of George Allen Crutchfield. She was a member of the Chilhowie Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, George Duane and Judy P. Crutchfield of Elk Ridge, Utah and Arlis R. and Judy W. Crutchfield of Chilhowie; one sister, Stella Vanhoy of Seven Mile Ford; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 28, in the Chilhowie Baptist Church with Pastor Chuck Herrell and Pastor Neal Johnson officiating. Graveside services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, in the Middle Fork Cemetery. The family received friends Monday evening prior to the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sulphur Spring Cemetery, c/o Shirley Hutton P.O. Box 353, Chilhowie, Va. 24319, or Middle Fork Cemetery, c/o Thomas W. McGhee, P.O. Box 613 Chilhowie, Va. 24319.
Williams Funeral Home in Chilhowie was in charge of arrangements.

Parks
William James Parks, 39, died Sunday, July 27, 2003, at his home in Marion.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later.
Bradley’s Funeral Home of Marion is in charge of arrangements.

Pennington
Frances Grey Pennington, 76, died Monday July 28, 2003 at her home in Marion.
She was born in Smyth County to the late Dewey and Pearl Poe Sayers and was preceded in death by her husband, William Pennington, one sister Virginia Blevins and one brother Jim Sayers.
She was a member of the Falling Water Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law, Debbie Hagy of Glade Spring, and Darlene and Michael Dean of Marion; two brothers, Warren Sayers of Marion, and Mack Sayers of Baltimore, Md.; two sisters-in-law, Barbara “Boots” Sayers and Martha Hash; one brother-in-law and wife, Ed and Zenna Pennington; one grandson, Eric Dean.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at 2 p.m. from the Falling Water Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Lewis and the Rev. Paul Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions can be made to the Hospice of South West Virginia, 600 West Ridge Road, Wytheville, Va. 24382. The family received friends Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Toon
Dorothy Lanier Toon, 77, of Damascus, died Sunday July 27, 2003 at Grace Healthcare in Abingdon.
She was a native of Mocksville, NC and had lived most of her life in Damascus. She was the daughter of the late Fred Lee Lanier, Sr. and Hilah Jane Smith Lanier.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Lee Toon; a son, William Anderson; a sister, Jane Orr, and a sister-in-law, Ruth Lanier. She attended the Laurel Community United Methodist Church.
Survivors are one son and daughter-in-law, Robert W. and Karen Anderson of Meadowview; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Charles Magnuson, Peggy and Don Williams, all of Damascus; one brother, Fred Lanier Jr., of Tampa, Fla.; a twin sister, Doris Jean Isenberg of Blountville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2003, in the Garrett Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. R. J. Cullop officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be sent to the Damascus Virginia Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 458, Damascus, Va. 24236. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday prior to the funeral service at the Garrett Funeral Home. Warren
Conley H. Warren, 78, of Atkins, died Saturday, July 26, 2003, at Smyth County Community Hospital.
He was born October 13, 1924 in Rugby, to the late Luther Patton and Dora Janetta Johnson Warren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Warren; brothers and sisters, Ottie Vernon, Delbert Wayne, Zenna Geneva, Edith Mae and Paula Dane.
Survivors are one daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Joe Pruitt of Chilhowie; one brother, Dillon L. Warren of Independence; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Virginia Lee Russell of Chilhowie, Bessie I. Henderson of Grant, Wilma and Fay Butler of Baltimore, Md., and Bernice and Nelson Owens of Marion; sister-in-law, Wave Warren of Rugby; four grandchildren, Adam, Mickey, Tanya and Joseph Conley Pruitt; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, July 29, 2003 in Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel in Independence with the Rev. Mike Owens officiating. Interment followed in Corinth Cemetery in Rugby.

Brinkley
Charles Jack Brinkley of Saltville, 72, died Thursday, July 31, 2003, at his home.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Midway Chapel Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Brinkley and a sister, Mary Allison.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia K. Brinkley of Saltville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Jim Hutton of Glade Spring, Tammy and Dave Lewis of Bristol, Tenn.; two stepchildren, Sherry Johnston of Meadowview and Dean Sanders of Saltville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Peggy and George Farris, and Pauline and Henry Everhart, all of Saltville; eight grandchildren, Ashley Smith, Lindsey Carter, Cory Johnston, Savannah Johnston, Dillon Hutton, Krissy Dorton, Alicia Boyd, and Michael Carter; four great-grandchildren, Caleb Boyd, Haley Carter, Carter and Madison Dorton; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 2, 2003, at Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob Briggs and the Rev. Jack Sprinkle officiating. Interment will follow at Elizabeth Cemetery with military rites conducted by Saltville VFW Post #7328. The family received friends on Friday evening from 7-9 P.M. at the funeral home.

Livesay
Edith Mae Livesay, 91, died Wednesday, July 30, 2003, in the Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion.
She was born in Grassy Creek, N.C. to the late Rev. Joseph Oscar and Laura Mae Porter Spencer.
Her husband, James Straley Livesay, and a grandson, Ronnie Richardson, also preceded her in death.
She was a graduate from Emory & Henry College where she received a teaching degree. She was lifelong teacher and started her teaching career in a one-room school in Ashe County, N.C. and taught at Oak Hill Academy and Marion Intermediate School. She was a lifetime member of Grassy Creek and Marion Baptist Church.
Survivors are one son and a daughter-in-law, Joseph Gail and Bureda “Boots” Livesay of Marion; one granddaughter and husband, Monica and Anthony Powers of Marion; one grandson and wife, Mike and Catherine Livesay of Salem; three great-grandchildren, Joseph and Jordan Powers and Tyler Livesay, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday July 31, at the Marion Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Slater, the Rev. Carlton Blankenship and the Rev. Bill Davis officiating. Graveside services were held Friday morning at Roselawn Cemetery. The family received friends Thursday at the church and at the residence of Gail and Boots Livesay.

Parks
William James Parks, 39, died Sunday, July 27, 2003, at his home in Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Winston and Mae Parks.
Survivors are one step-daughter, Rebecca Tuggle of Marion; one sister, Jean Sheets of Princeton, W.Va.; one half-brother and sister-in-law, Johnny Tuggle and Linda Ecenrode of Marion; three half-sisters, Mildred Parks, Myrtle Moore and Charlotte Parks; three step- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Thursday July 31, at Ridgedale Cemetery in Rich Valley with the Rev. Todd Rigney officiating. The family received friends Thursday at the funeral home.

Ruby P. Perkins, 94, died Friday, August 1, 2003, in the Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home.
