Alma Ingram Cardwell

KEELING, Va. - Alma Ingram Cardwell, 87, of 17240 Old Richmond Road, Keeling, Va., lost her long battle with Alzheimer's on Thursday, February 17, 2000, at her home.
Mrs. Cardwell was born on March 9, 1912, in Pittsylvania County, the daughter of John Letcher Ingram and Laura Mays Ingram.
She was married on June 22, 1934, to Wiltshire Monroe Cardwell, who survives at the residence.
Mrs. Cardwell was a descendant of early Pittsylvania County settlers who were patented thousands of acres of land derived from the British Crown and she spent all of her life in the county of her birth. She was a member of Kentuck Presbyterian Church for 45 years.
Besides her husband of the residence, Mrs. Cardwell is survived by one daughter, Ann Cardwell Roth and her husband Rick Roth of Clemmons, N.C.; one son, Carroll Monroe Cardwell and his wife Claudia Cardwell of Dinwiddie, Va.; and two granddaughters, Tracey Cardwell Roberts of Charlottesville, Va., and Tiffany Cardwell Joseph of Seattle, Wash.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, February 20, 2000, 3:00 p.m. at Kentuck Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Walker Pettyjohn will be conducting the services. Interment icon will follow at the Cardwell Family cemetery.
The family received friends on Saturday, February 19, 2000, 7:00-8:00 p.m. at Townes Funeral Home. Other times the family will receive at the residence.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Kentuck Presbyterian Church c/o: Joanne Whitlow 1109 Countryside Drive, Ringgold, Va. 24586 or the Alzheimer's Association, 919 North Michigan Avenue, Chicago, Ill. 60611-1676.

Bobby Alderson Hines

DANVILLE, Va. - Bobby Alderson Hines, 64, of 1216 Halifax Road, died Thursday Feb. 17, 2000, in Danville Regional Medical Center, after several months of declining health and a four-day stay in the hospital.
Born April 25, 1935, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Willie Alderson Hines and Annie Yeatts Hines, who both predeceased him. He lived all of his life in Pittsylvania County and Danville. Prior to his retirement, he worked in construction and as a truck driver.
He attended the Living Waters Mission.
He is survived by a sister, Marguerite H. Clark of Danville.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Roy Newton officiating. Interment icon will follow in Highland Burial Park.
The family will be at the residence of his sister, 225 Thrush St.

Albert Willis "Bill" Hodges

DANVILLE, Va. - Albert Willis "Bill" Hodges, 85, of 500 Ingram St., died Feb. 18, 2000, at Riverside Health Care Center after two and a half years of declining health and a hospital stay.
Born June 15, 1914, in Danville, he was a son of James Willis Hodges and Valnay Smith Hodges. He was a member of Third Avenue Christian Church and the Chapel Bible Class. He was married June 15, 1946, to Pearl Anholt Hodges, who survives.
He was a veteran of 20 years with the U.S. Army, having served in Pearl Harbor during WWII. After his retirement he worked with the Defense Intelligence Agency and as a security guard for Dan River Mills Inc.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Garfield Hodges and Samuel Milton Hodges.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by two daughters, Joyce H. Abbott of Burlington, N.C., Karen H. Gourley of Danville; one son, Everett Wayne Hodges of Danville; three sisters, Ethel Golden Haymore, Helen Loucille Anholt, Iris H. White, all of Danville; three brothers, Herman Hodges of Lexington, Ky., Ira Thomas Hodges of Ringgold, Otha McKinley Hodges of Graham, N.C.; and three grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 4 p.m., Sunday, from the Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Freddy Vicks and the Rev. Daryl Joyce officiating. Interment icon will follow at Highland Burial Park, with military honors conducted by Fort Lee Burial Detail.
The family received friends at the residence.

Darrell Hughes Robertson

ROCKY MOUNT, Va. - Darrell Hughes Robertson, age 38, of Rocky Mount said his final goodbyes and went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 18, 2000, after fighting a life-long battle with Cystic Fibrosis.
Born August 27, 1961, he was preceded in death by his wonderful father, Bennie Hughes Robertson; a brother, Wendell Lee Robertson; his maternal grandparents, William and Emma McDaniel; and paternal grandparents, Luther and Bertha Robertson.
He left behind to cherish all of his loving memories, a loving and devoted wife, Regina Perdue Robertson; one very special son, Darrell (Shaun) Robertson and his special friend, Kristi Miller, both of Boones Mill; one special daughter, Brandi Rae Beckner of the home; a loving and devoted mother and step-dad, Mildred and James Graham of Danville; one special sister and brother-in-law, Pam and Danny Sink of Burnt Chimney; a very special nephew, Alex Sink of Burnt Chimney; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wayne and Violet Perdue of Redwood; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Tammie and Eric Witcher of Rocky Mount; nephew, Brock Hall of Rocky Mount; brother-in-law and special friend, Kevin Perdue and Debbie Inman of Redwood; and niece, Kayll Perdue of Redwood.
He was loved by MANY and will be missed by ALL.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 21, 2000, in Lynch Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jackie Spence and the Rev. Kirby Phillips officiating. Interment icon will follow in the Dillon Family cemetery, Scruggs.
Friends may call after 4:00 P.M. Sunday where the family will receive from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Lynch Funeral Home, Rocky Mount, is in charge of arrangements.

Nora Terry

DANVILLE, Va. - Nora Belle Terry, 94, of 156 Forestdale Drive, Apt. 208, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at Piney Forest Health Care Center.
Born Oct. 4, 1905, in Keeling, she was the daughter of John Thomas Terry and Lucinda Lewis Terry.
She lived her entire life in Pittsylvania County and Danville, and was an inspector for Anderson Brothers Clothing Mfg. until her retirement. She was of the Primitive Baptist Faith. She was the last surviving member of her generation.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the Elder Danny Parker officiating. Interment icon will be in the Lewis Family cemetery in Keeling.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Moncie Adkins

GRETNA, Va. - Moncie Willard Adkins, 84, of Keen Road died Sunday, February 20, 2000, in Autumn Care, Altavista.
Born Dec. 20, 1915, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Charlie Adkins and Delia Katherine Byrd Adkins.
He was married to Maggie Barber Adkins, who predeceased him. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church and a retired farmer.
Survivors include one son, Wesley Adkins of Gretna; three daughters, Joyce A. Bennett and Nancy A. Stone, both of Hurt, and Elizabeth A. Boggs of Gretna; two brothers, Carlton Adkins of Maryland, and Brantley Adkins of Washington D.C.; one sister, Jessie Barber of Danville; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by one daughter, Katherine A. Dowdy.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Colbert-Moran Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Lynn Marstin officiating. Interment icon will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times at the residence of his daughter, Nancy A. Stone, 407 Oakwood Drive, Hurt.
Colbert-Moran Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Willard Glaze

DANVILLE, Va. - Willard Eugene Glaze, 92, of White Rock Road died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 24, 1907, in Dry Fork, he was the son of William Felix and Zella Emerson Glaise.
He was married Nov. 28, 1929 to Geneva Farmer Glaze, who survives. He was a member of White Rock Baptist Church for 48 years, where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and Sexton. He retired from Dan River Mills in 1971, after 35 years of service. He was a Master Mason with the Murdock Masonic Lodge #163.
In addition to his wife of Danville, survivors include two sons, Eugene Glaze of Cleveland and Preston Glaze of Danville; one brother, William Glaise of Danville; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by one son, George Glaze.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at White Rock Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Walter Tinsley officiating. Interment icon will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
The family received friends from 1-8 p.m. Sunday at the L.H. Brooks Funeral Home, and will receive friends other times at 316 White Rock Road.

Bessie Gochenour

WOODSTOCK, Va. - Bessie Alice Wetzel Gochenour, 89, of 149 Valley Vista Drive died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at the home of her daughter, near Baltimore.
Born March 5, 1910, in Woodstock, she was the daughter of Lewis and Gertrude Peters Wetzel.
She was married to Carl Melvin Gochenour, who predeceased her. She was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting. She was a member of Valley Pike Church of the Brethren.
Survivors include one daughter, Doris S. Stokes of Baltimore; two sons, Loy E. Gochenour of Woodstock and Eddie W. Gochenour of Danville; one brother, Elmer Wetzel of Edinburg; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Dellinger Funeral Home, Woodstock with the Rev. William Fitchett officiating. Burial will follow in Valley Pike Church of the Brethren cemetery.
The family received friends Sunday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Dellinger Funeral Home.

Viola Green

HURT, Va. - Viola Simpson Green, 88, of 1481 Country Club Road died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born Feb. 20, 1911, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of John L. Simpson and Lucille Walker Simpson.
She was married to William Jesse Green, who predeceased her. She was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Jesse Green and Tommy Green, both of Hurt, and John Green of Lynch Station; two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Doss of Gretna and Lizzie Mae Green of Hurt; one brother, Lloyd Simpson of Gretna; three sisters, Beatrice Clay and Dorothy Rowland, both of Gretna, and Lucille Colbert of Hurt; 25 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, William David Green; a sister, Jeter Cox; and two brothers, Raymond Simpson and Coleman Simpson.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Green Family cemetery with Ronnie Simpson and Joseph Short officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her son, Jesse Green, 10177 Blue Ridge Drive, Hurt.
Colbert-Moran Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Henritta Hughes

DANVILLE, Va. - Henritta Denny Hughes, 87, formerly of 136 Mabin St. died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 2, 1912, in Blanche, N.C., she was the daughter of Viola Denny.
She was married to Joe Hughes, who predeceased her. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Rudolph Hughes of Mt. Vernon, N.Y., and Paul Hughes of Charlotte, N.C.; two daughters, Bettie H. Whipple of Danville, and Elizabeth Goodine of Charlotte, N.C.; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Shiloh Baptist Church with the Rev. Cecil Bridgeforth officiating. Interment icon will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at the L.H. Brooks & Bros. Funeral Home and other times at 525 Doe St.
