Virginia, U.S., Marriage Records, 1936-2014

Ruth Titus

GRETNA, Va. - Ruth Marie Glenn Titus, 57, of 688 Cedar Road, died Sunday, May 14, 2000, at her residence.
Born Dec. 26, 1942 in South Gate, Calif., she was the daughter of James and Dorothy Drevlo Glenn. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include four daughters, Stacy Campbell of Gretna, Misty Mahaffey of Ramona, Calif., Cindy Laurent of Elgin, Ore. and Charmaine Jankanish of Weaverville, N.C.; and six grandchildren.
A private family funeral will be held at a later date.
Finch & Finch Funeral Home, Altavista is in charge of arrangements.

Lizzie Wright

DANVILLE, Va. - Lizzie Marlow Wright, 84, formerly of 37 Selma Ave., died Saturday, May 13, 2000, at the residence of her son, Jimmie Wright, after four years of declining health.
Born March 12, 1916 in Callands, she was the daughter of Fletcher Lee Marlow and Maybird "Berta" Hankins Marlow.
She lived in the Danville area for 56 years. Prior to her retirement, she was an employee of Dan River, Inc. for 37 years. She was a member of Arlington Baptist Church. She was the last surviving member of her generation.
Survivors include one daughter, Ruby Agnes Rigney of Danville; one son, Jimmie L. Wright of Ridgeway, Va.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday from Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Dr. Samuel Greeson officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.

Steve Harris

CASCADE, Va. - Steve Douglas Harris, 45, of 529 Huntington Trail, died Saturday, May 13, 2000, at Baptist Hospital, Winston-Salem, N.C., as a result of injuries sustained in an explosion and fire on April 25, 2000 at his business in the Laurel Park community.
Born Nov. 5, 1954 in Danville, he was the son of the late J.H. Harris Jr. and Loraine Soyars Harris, who survives.
He was married to Janet Stophel Harris, who survives. He was a 1973 graduate of Tunstall High School and lived in Cascade all of his life. He was a member of Cascade Baptist Church and co-owner of Chatmoss Auto Parts for 27 years.
In addition to his wife of the residence and his mother of Cascade, he is survived by one son, Justin Douglas Harris of the residence.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Thomas Wright officiating. Interment icon will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Swicegood Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Loraine Soyars Harris, 2411 Huntington Trail, Cascade.

Fitzhugh Moser

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Fitzhugh Herman Moser, 71, of 1510 Watkins Ave., died Sunday, May 14, 2000, at his residence.
Born May 18, 1928, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Robert Franklin Moser and Illa Brown Moser.
He was married to June Barksdale Moser, who survives.
In addition to his wife of South Boston, survivors include two sons, Sammie H. Moser of South Boston and Jackie L. Moser of Alton; three brothers, Leonard Moser of Java, and Roland Moser and Roger Moser, both of Danville; one sister, Ruby Perkins of Salem; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rudolph Jacobs officiating. Interment icon will be in Halifax Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Powell Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Harlin 'Bud' Wilson Jr.

FAIRFAX, Va. - Harlin W. "Bud" Wilson Jr., 53, died Sunday, May 14, 2000, at his residence.
He was the son of Harlin W. Wilson and the late Ruth Knight Wilson.
He was married to Patricia Wilson.
Survivors include one step-daughter, Megan McCartney and one sister, Gayle Williams.
A funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Timothy's RC Church, 13807 Poplar Tree Road, Chantilly. Interment icon will be in Fairfax Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Everly Funeral Home, Fairfax.

Susan Bullington

ALTAVISTA, Va. - Susan Hogan Bullington, 91, of Route 1, Evington, died Monday, May 15, 2000, in Autumn Care of Altavista.
Born April 3, 1909, in Bedford County, she was the daughter of Thomas and Millie Ann Shelton Hogan.
She was married to Charlie Patrick Bullington, who predeceased her. She was a member of Penuel Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, William T. Bullington of Blairs, Ramsey Bullington of Franklin, Tenn. and Cordell Bullington of Gretna; three daughters, Doris Moon of Leesburg, Va., Jewell Leazer of Madison Heights, and Geraldine Stone of Severna Park, Md.; 17 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one daughter, Virginia B. Dalton and one grandson.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday from Finch & Finch Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Carl Burger and the Rev. John Muth officiating. Interment icon will follow in Altavista Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, and at other times at the residence.

Mary Lee Jennings

ROANOKE, Va. - Mary Lee Jennings, 83, died May 15, 2000 in Roanoke, Va.
Born May 25, 1916, in Knoxville, Alabama she was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. T.J. Patton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James W. Jennings.
She received a B.S. in 1938 and a M.A. in 1939 in mathematics from University of Alabama. A long time resident of Danville, she taught mathematics for ten years at Stratford College, where she became chair of the Department of Mathematics. She also served as President of the Danville Garden Club. Along with her husband she was active in the affairs of the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History, and the couple was awarded jointly the Danville Kiwanis Citizenship Award for 1976.
She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, James W. and Anne M. Jennings, Jr. of Roanoke and B. Patton and Melanie L. Jennings of Milton, North Carolina, and three grandchildren, Helene M. Jennings of Charleston, South Carolina, Anne Conway Jennings of Boston, Massachusetts and Mary P. Jennings of Roanoke.
Funeral services will be conducted at The Presbyterian Church of Danville at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2000 by the Rev. Jack Heinsohn. Interment icon will be in Mountain View cemetery.
The family received visitors at Townes Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History, 975 Main Street, Danville, Virginia 24541.

Mildred Robertson

DANVILLE, Va. - Mildred Brandon Robertson, 77, of 211 Hamilton St., died Saturday, May 13, 2000, at her residence.
Born June 30, 1922 in Danville, she was a daughter of Henderson Brandon Sr. and Sally Ingram Brandon.
She was married to Herbert Robertson, who survives. She was a member of Jones Chapel Baptist Church and worked as a domestic aide prior to her retirement.
In addition to her husband of the residence, she is survived by one son, Harold Robertson of Jersey City, N.J.; two sisters, Mary Allen of Jersey City and Hazel Lucas of Danville; and one brother, Edward Brandon of Danville.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday from Jones Chapel Baptist Church, with Rev. Hayes McConnell officiating. Interment icon will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Fisher & Watkins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

James Shepherd

DANVILLE, Va. - James Anderson Shepherd, 74, of 114 Lorillard Circle, died Sunday, May 14, 2000, at Stratford Health Care Center after several years of declining health.
Born Sept. 4, 1925, in Pike County, Ky., he was the son of John H. Shepherd and Nellie Gill Shepherd.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II. He lived in Danville for a number of years and worked for Commodore Mobile Homes. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Shiflett and Sue Barksdale, both of Danville; one son, James Robert Shepherd of Wildomar, Calif.; three sisters, Dolly Barber, Doris Childress, and Sue Brooks, all of Danville; one brother, Richard Shepherd of Danville; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by six brothers.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Don Harrell officiating.
Swicegood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Thelma Sinning

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Thelma Guthrie Sinning, 83, of 307 Greens Folly Apartments, died May 16, 2000, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born April 2, 1917 in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Charles Edward Guthrie and Charlotte Belle Singleton Guthrie.
She was married to Earl William Sinning, who predeceased her. She was a member of the Childrey Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Joanne S. Burton of Halifax, Charlotte S. Childrey of Danville and Karen S. Tussey of South Boston; one brother, French Edward Guthrie of Red Hill, Va.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday from Childrey Baptist Church, with the Rev. Rodney Barwick, the Rev. Richard Cook and the Rev. Jon Reid officiating. Interment icon will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Powell Funeral Home, and at other times at the residence of Joanne Burton, 1948 Burton Trail, Halifax.
