Virginia, U.S., Marriage Records, 1936-2014

Caroline Crumpton

DANVILLE, Va. - Caroline Scott Crumpton, 83, formerly of Kemper Road, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at Stratford Health Care Center.

Born Aug. 21, 1917, in Shady Grove, N.C., she was a daughter of William Crumpton and Ada Durham Crumpton.

She worked or Dan River Inc., before retiring on disability and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include one brother, Bill Crumpton of Danville.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Kate Crumpton Gentry and Bessie Hancock Riddle.

A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home, with the Rev. Fred Cox officiating.

Interment will follow at Mountain View cemetery.

The family will receive friends at 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at Swicegood Funeral Home and at other times at 103 Laramie Circle.

Wayne Davis

DANVILLE, Va. - Wayne Winston Davis, 68, of 701 Brightwell Drive, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center after one year of declining health.

Born Sept. 3, 1932, in Dunbar, Pa., he was a son of Robert Weldon Davis and Annie Zimmerman Davis.

He was married to Dorothy "Tina" Browder Davis, who survives.

He was a member and past Master of the Roman Eagle Masonic Lodge No. 122 and the Morotock Masonic Lodge No. 210.

He was a member of the Kaufman Brydon Chapter No. 87 of the Order of the Eastern Star and Trinity Methodist Church.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served in the Korean Conflict.

In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Linda D. Rhue of Blanch, N.C. and Cindy D. Scearce of Blairs; two sons, Wayne W. Davis Jr. of Chatham and Sammy W. Davis of Glen Allen; three sisters, Dorothy Ridenour of Apple Valley, Calif., Mae Oliver of Greensboro and Rose Etta Purgason of Charlottesville; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Trinity United Methodist Church.

Interment will follow at New Hope United Methodist Church cemetery, Blanch, N.C., with Masonic Graveside Rites by Roman Eagle Masonic Lodge No. 122.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

Sara Holliday

DANVILLE, Va. - Sara Elizabeth Wooten Holliday, 88, of 1107 Westover Drive died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at her residence.

Born March 10, 1912, in Greenup County, Ky., she was a daughter of Luther Charles Wooten and Cora Huffman Wooten.

She was married to Malcolm H. Holliday Jr., who predeceased her, Dec. 14, 2000.

She graduated from Ashland Business College, Ashland, Ky.

She was a member of the Kentucky Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church Women and was an active member of Fairview Methodist Church.

She was a member of the Eastern Star U.M.W., a dedicated volunteer and was active in many other civic organizations.

Survivors include one daughter, Sallie Elizabeth Holliday Little of Martinsville; one son, Malcolm Harold Holliday III. of Homestead, Fla.; one sister, Goldie Goldsberry of Ohio; one brother, L. Wayne Wooten of Louisa, Ky.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by one sister, Pearl Kouns and four brothers, Earl Wooten, Russell Wooten, Clyde Wooten and Charles Wooten.

A commemorative service will be held during the 11 a.m worship service Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at Fairview Methodist Church.

Interment of ashes will be held at a later date at Pine Hill cemetery, Louisa, Ky.

Arthur Lloyd Sr.

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Arthur Robert Lloyd Sr., 84, of 406 Oak Lane died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at Halifax Regional Hospital.

Born April 30, 1916, in Halifax County, he was a son of John Robert Lloyd and Nora Wallace Lloyd.

He was married to Annie Belle Elliott Lloyd, who survives.

He was a retired taxi driver and attended Centerville Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, Robert Lloyd Jr. of South Boston and Billy Lloyd of Concord, Conn.; two daughters, Doris High of Danville and Dorothy Bicent of Jacksonville, Fla.; one sister, Myrtle Ratliff of South Boston; two brothers, Frank Lloyd of Richmond and Charles Lloyd of Gretna; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Centerville Baptist Church, with the Rev. Richard Saunders officiating.

The family will receive friends 1-2 p.m. Tuesday at Centerville Baptist Church.

Brooks Funeral Home Inc., South Boston, is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Martin

PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Mary Elizabeth Gibson Martin, 85, of the 100 block of Edison Ave. died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000.

She was born in Pittsylvania County.

She was married to Charles F. Martin.

She was a caterer.

She was a member of Cradock United Methodist Church and the Sunshine Club of Temple Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Robin Ann Crittenden of Richmond; one son, Donald M. Rozewicz of Danville; two stepsons, Charles F. Martin III. and Michael A. Martin, both of Virginia Beach; five sisters, Elsie Blevins of Danville, Mildred Rowland of Gretna, Reba Midkiff of Gretna, Ruth Chamberlain of Salisbury, Md. and Joann Giles of Chatham; three brothers, James A. Gibson of Danville, Elvin Gibson of Tampa, Fla., and Nelson Gibson of Lynchburg; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cradock United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Pamela Rae Seeley officiating.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Cradock United Methodist Church, 24 Channing Ave. Portsmouth, Va. 23702.

Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth, is in charge of arrangements.

Daniel Moore

DANVILLE, Va. - Daniel Everett Moore, 58, of 2001 Woodlake Drive died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at his residence, after one and one-half years of declining health.

Born Nov. 20, 1942, in Harrisonburg, he was a son of Lawrence B. Moore and Sara McBrayer Moore, who survives.

On July 9, 1966, he was married to Mary Alice Johnson Moore, who survives.

He lived most of his adult life in the Danville and Pittsylvania County areas, where prior to his decline in health he was employed with Ennis Business Forms as current M.I.S. coordinator and was past Administrative Manager.

He was a member of Harrisonburg Baptist Church and attended North Main Baptist Church in Danville.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

In addition to his wife of the residence and his mother, survivors include one daughter, Dana E. Moore of Durham, N.C.

A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel, with the Rev. A Kyle Flora and the Rev. Kenneth Clark officiating.

Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel and other times at the residence.

John Aldworth

HALIFAX, Va. - John Gray Aldworth, 80, of 205 Maple Ave. died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 3, 1920, in New York City.

He was first married to Catherine Dixon Aldworth, who survives and was later married to Jaqueline Roberts Aldworth, who survives.

He graduated from Cornell University in 1942, with a B.S. in electrical engineering and business administration.

While at Cornell he was a member of the honor society Tau Beta Pi and was also Commodore of the Crew.

He later received a master's degree in business administration from Harvard University.

In 1985, after 40 years of service he retired as Division General Manager of Small Power Transformers, with Westinghouse Electric Corporation, South Boston.

He achieved the rank of Lt. Col. in the U.S. Marines, during World War II.

He was awarded the Silver Star, the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.

In addition to his first and second wives, survivors include two sons, John C. Aldworth and Donald R. Aldworth; one daughter, Nancy Aldworth Thompson; two stepsons, John R. Clement and John R. Williams IV.; one stepdaughter, Katherine W. Austin and six grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at St. John's Episcopal Church cemetery, Halifax.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Project Prime, Halifax Regional Hospital, South Boston or the cemetery Fund of St. John's Episcopal Church, Halifax, Va.

Powell Funeral Home, South Boston, is in charge of arrangements.
