Hugh Dodson

RINGGOLD, Va. - Hugh Garland Dodson, 88, of 5509 Kentuck Road, died Feb. 28, 2001, at 1:15 a.m. in Danville.
Born May 7, 1912, in Pittsylvania County, Va, he was the son of Willie Caldwell Dodson and Nora Frances Murrey Dodson, both deceased.
He was married to Bertha Covington Dodson who predeceased him. He was a member of Central Blvd. Church of God. He worked 43 years at Dan River, Inc., 8A Dress, Riverside in Maintenance Dept. and was a farmer in the Kentuck Community.
Survivors include two daughters, Blanche D. Stone of Cleveland, Tennessee, Brenda D. Hopkins of Danville, Va.; two sons, Hugh A. Dodson of Danville, Va., Willie C. "Billy" Dodson of Kentuck, Va.; one daughter-in-law Louise Dodson of Danville, Va.; three son-in-laws, Hoyt E. Stone, Sr. of Cleveland, Tennessee, Dennis Hopkins of Danville, Va., Carl Daniel of Danville, Va.; 7 grandchildren, Hoyt E. Stone, Jr., Vince A. Stone, Hugh G. "D.D." Dodson, Jamie Daniel, Debbie D. Leftwich, Kim D. Thompson, and Billy Dodson. 7 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Mr. Dodson was the last surviving member of his generation.
He was predeceased by one daughter, Bessie Dodson Daniel; 4 brothers, Frank Dodson, Lynwood Dodson, Ardie Dodson, Ernest Dodson and 2 sisters, Bertha Barber, and Pearl Anderson.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Central Blvd. Church of God, Danville, with the Rev. John Meadows and Rev. M.S. Horne officiating. Interment icon will follow at Covington Family cemetery at Keeling, Va.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Barker Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his daughter, Brenda D. Hopkins, 185 Afton Road, Danville.
Barker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Louise Fields

DANVILLE, Va. - Louise Hughes Fields, of 850 Monroe St., died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born December 5, 1914, in Danville, Va., she was the daughter Earl and Agnes Coles Lounderman.
She was married to Charles Fields. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Keith Fields, of Danville, Va.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday, at L.H. Brooks & Bro. with the Rev. S. Churns Jr. officiating. Interment icon will follow at Oak Hill cemetery.
The remains may be viewed on Thursday afternoon from 2-8 p.m. and the family will receive friends at 850 Monroe St.

Lois Johnson

CLARKSVILLE, Va. - Lois Allgood Flinn Johnson, 73, of Trottinridge Road died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at her residence.
Born in Mecklenburg County, she was the daughter of Herbert J. and Alice Campbell Allgood.
She was married to Arnold Sinclair Flinn and Wayne C. Johnson. She was a member of Jeffress Baptist Church, she also attended New Hope Baptist Church. She retired from Craddock Terry Shoe Company in Chase City.
Surviving is a daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis Flinn Harris and Mike J. Harris of Danville; a son, Dale Flinn of Clarksville; two grandsons, Robert Chesley Gordon of Washington, DC and Andrew Dale Flinn of Clarksville and a special nephew, Terry Allgood of Clarksville. Lois was preceded in death by brothers, Ray Allgood and Rex Allgood; sisters, Dorothy York and Geneva Currin.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Thursday evening at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home in Clarksville.
Contributions may be made to the Mecklenburg Co. of Lifesaving & Rescue Squad in Clarksville.

Donna Lohman

DANVILLE, Va. - Donna June Lohman, 66, of 1725 Glenn St., died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at her residence.
Born July 12, 1934, in Montrose, W.Va., she was the daughter of Richard Weese and Edna Summerfield Weese.
She was married to Charles Lohman who predeceased her. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints in Danville.
Survivors in addition to her father include one brother, Maxwell Weese of Springfield, W.Va.; three sisters, Vonda Argyrakis of Dryfork, Va.; Wanda Perez of Danville and Ann Dalton of Waterville, Ohio.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Richard Weese and Donald Weese.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday, at the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints with Bishop Chris Chris Morgan will be conducting the services. Interment icon services will be held Saturday at Parks Family cemetery in Elkins, W.Va.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Townes Funeral Home, and at other times at the residence.

Mary Smith

GRETNA, Va. - Mary C. Smith, 71, of 4574 Piney Road, Gretna, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2001, at the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 28, 1929, she was the daughter of Edgar Clark and Daisy Berger Clark.
She was a homemaker and was a member of the Elba Missionary Baptist Church. She also attended the Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church and was a member of the FCE Club.
Survivors include, one sister, Dora Ransey of Gretna, Va.; three brothers, Oscar Clark, of Gretna, Va., Zebdee Clark of Baltimore, Md., Chester Clark of New York.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Frank, Walter and Freeman Clark and one sister, Maggie Matthews.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel of Miller Funeral Home by Rev. B.I. Baize officiating. Interment icon will follow at the Berger Family cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
Miller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Armstead Swann Sr.

DANVILLE, Va. - Armstead Henry Swann Sr., 65, of 101 Ida Street, Danville, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001 at the residence.
Born March 2, 1934 in Danville, he was the son of Edward Swann and Ruby Brown Swann.
He was married to Barbara Swann, who predeceased him. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and worked for the United States Government as a printer before his retirement.
Survivors include three daughters, Carol Swann, Myrna Foster and Sharon Mills, all of Danville; three sons, Armstead H. Swann Jr. of Yanceyville, N.C., Darryl Swann and Julian Swann, both of Maryland; two sisters, Carolyn Valentine of Milton, N.C., Edmonia Swann of Syracuse, N.Y., and three brothers, Jerry Swann of Clinton, Md., Edward Swann and William Swann, both of Petersburg.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel with Apostle Lawrence Campbell and Elder P. Campbell officiating. Interment icon will follow at Highland Burial Park. Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

Margaret Walker

Newport News, Va. - Margaret Gaynell Pryor Walker, 79, of Newport News, Va. died Sunday, February 25, 2001 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2001, 11:00 AM at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church. Interment icon will follow in Dan River Primitive Baptist Church.
Ms. Walker was a native of Rockingham County, but had been a resident of Newport News, VA for the past ten years. She retired from Creigahton Shirt Factory and was a member of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church in Ruffin.
She will be greatly missed by her daughters, Sandra W. Miller and husband, Lloyd of Bismarck, North Dakota, Judith W. Shealy and husband, David of Yorktown, VA; grandchildren, Rhonda Lovro of Norwich, North Dakota, Neal Miller of Kingham, AZ, Michelle Miller of Bismarck, North Dakota, Keith Shealy of Vandenberg, AFB, California, Kristin Shealy of Yorktown, VA; 6 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Friday, March 2nd, from 7:00 - 8:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hickory Grove United Methodist Church, 9983 NC Highway 700, Ruffin, NC 2726.

Donald Warrick

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Donald M. Warrick, 63, of Tallahassee, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001.
He was the son of Josephine Warrick. He was a native of Fountain County, Ind.
He was married to Annie Warrick. He was a retired Staff Sergeant in the army after 28 years.
Survivors include four sons, Russell Warrick of Steinhatchee, Florida., Benjamin Warrick of Tallahassee, Rev. Donald M. Warrick Jr. of Danville, Virginia where he is pastor at Whitmell United Methodist Church, Kenneth Everett Warrick of Arlington, Virginia; five brothers, Bob Warrick of Attica, Ind., Jack Warrick of Hillsboro, Ind., Joey Warrick of Tucson, Arizona, Larry Warrick of Crawfordsville, Ind., Bill Warrick of Attica, Ind.; two sisters, Patsey Reffett of Westville, Ill., Carolyn Gilland of Logansport, Ind.
A funeral will be held 3 p.m. Thursday at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home/ Riggins Road.
The family will receive friends one hour before service at Culley's MeadoWood Funeral Home.

Albert Anderson
DANVILLE, Va. - Albert Carl Anderson, 47, of 931 Paxton Ave., Danville, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Johnny Bob Anderson and Nonie Whitehead Anderson.
He was married to Isabelle Bennett Anderson, who survives. He worked for Dan River Mills as a truck driver before his retirement on disability.
Survivors included, in addition to his wife, three daughters, Madelene Cardwell, Katrina Anderson and Tonia "Ree-Ree" Anderson, all of Danville; one son, Albert Angelo Anderson of Danville; eight sisters, Phyllis Womack of Baltimore, Md., Shirley Parker of Fredricksburg, Audrey Parker and Zelbra Bennett, both of Blairs, Violeen Thomas, Emily Mae Waller, Etruely Dixon and Doris Witcher, all of Danville, Florence Stone of Greensboro and one brother, Thomas Anderson of Blairs.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Shockoe Baptist Church with the Rev. Roger Williams officiating. Interment icon will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

Joanne Bowling

DANVILLE, Va. - In the early morning hours of Wednesday, the 28th of February 2001, Joanne Patterson Bowling, beloved wife of Bobby Bowling, passed away at home following a seven year battle against breast cancer
Born on the 26th of March 1960 in Danville, Virginia, Joanne was the daughter of Ronnie & Shirley Patterson, who both survive.
As the sister of Suzan Patterson of Ruffin, N.C. and Chip Patterson of Apex, N.C.; Joanne was a shining ray of sunshine for her family. Her guidance and daily inspiration shaped the lives everyone she called a friend.
Others in her life, Sandy Bowling Witt, her step-daughter & Trinity Witt, her grandchild of Ringgold, VA; her niece Lisa Ighnat of Danville, Virginia along with her niece, Lauren Patterson and nephew, Robby Patterson of Apex, N.C. held very special places in her heart.
As a child, Joanne was Little Miss Danville. Following graduation from George Washington High School in Danville, VA., she later attended classes at Rockingham Community College in Wentworth, N.C. As an employee of Dan River, Inc., Bassett-Walker and later, Pluma. She was employed in various capacities at facilities in Danville VA, Chatham, VA. Martinsville, VA & Eden, N.C.
Many dear friends are left to remember Joanne's overwhelming charm whether she was telling a funny story, traveling with Bobby on their Harley, snuggling with her fur family or giving much needed encouragement to both little children facing their first chemotherapy or folks twice her age facing their own adversities.
The family will receive friends at Wrenn-Yeatts, Westover Chapel on Thursday night from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 2, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. also at Wrenn-Yeatts, Westover Chapel. At other times, the family will be at the Bowling residence at 2830 Gravel Hill Road, Cascade, Virginia in the lost corner section of southwest Pittsylvania County.
