Virginia, U.S., Marriage Records, 1936-2014

Theodore Belcher Jr.

VERNON HILL, Va. -Theodore Yancey Belcher Jr., 31, of New Orange, N.J., died Nov. 11 at his parents residence.
Born Feb. 23, 1970, in New York, he was a son of Ignaecia and Junious Oulds.
Survivors, in addition to his parents of Vernon Hill, include three sisters, Francesca Delisser of Glen Allen and Laverne Andrade and Venessa Oulds, both of Rosedale, N.Y. and three brothers, Terrance Belcher of Glen Allen, Etiene Belcher of Goose Creek, S.C. and John Oulds of Roosevelt, N.Y.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at New Zion Baptist Church in Nathalie with the Rev. Willie Yancey officiating. Interment icon will follow at the church cemetery.
Crawford, Garrett & Burton Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.

Geraldine Brafford

DANVILLE, Va. - Geraldine Scarce Brafford, 92, formerly of Nelson Avenue, died on November 14, 2001, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home after declining health for the past 2 weeks and residing at Roman Eagle for 8 months.
Born on September 12, 1909 in Axton, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late John Thomas Scarce and the late Lucy Emma Scarce.
Mrs. Brafford had lived most of her life in Danville where she was a graduate of George Washington High School. She had retired from Dan River Inc. where she worked in the Schoolfield Division as a clerk. Mrs. Brafford was a member of Keen Street Baptist Church and a member of the Dan River Retiree Club and the Dan River Sewing Room Retiree Club.
Survivors include Daughter in Law Flora W. Gregson of Danville, Va.; Granddaughters Tondia Jean Brafford Holland of Dry Fork, Va., Shauna Fanin of Chatham, Va., Vanessa Meyer of Kernsville, NC and Ellen Mussell of Gibsonville, NC; Nephews Reginald Boaze and Berkley Hubbard; Niece Adele Parsons; 7 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild.
She was predeceased by a son Carrington Brafford.
The funeral will be held from the Graveside in Highland Burial Park Saturday, November 17th at 11:00 a.m. by the Reverend Thomas Brown & Reverend Sherman (Butch) Dellinger.
The family will receive friends Friday night from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and at other times at the residence of her Daughter in Law Flora W. Gregson, 168 Nathalie Lane, Danville off of the Mount Cross Road.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Keen Street Baptist Church, 541 Keen Street Danville, VA 24540, or to the Danville Life Saving Crew, 202 Christopher Lane Danville, VA 24541.

Samuel Brown Sr.

DANVILLE, Va. - Samuel Edward Brown, Sr., age 71, of 159 Parson Street died Tuesday, November 13, 2001.
He was born February 3, 1930 in Pittsylvania County a son of Eugene Brown and Beulah Moss Brown. Mr. Brown worked for Dan River Mills for over 43 years and retired in 1991. He was a member of the Tabernacle. On July 3, 1947 he was married to the former Ethel Shelton, who predeceased him on January 15, 1993.
Mr. Brown was predeceased by three sisters, Bessie B. Black, Virginia B. Buckner and Laura B. Cain.
Survivors include a daughter, Brenda B. Curl of Greensboro, NC; a son Samuel Edward Brown Jr. of Danville; four brothers, Eugene G. Brown, William R. Brown and James Herbert Brown all of Danville and Kenneth Curtis Brown of North Miami, FL; four sisters, Lena B. Araolis of Memphis, TN, Adele B. Sipe of Allentown, PA, Mae B. Collins and Juanita B. Holley of Danville; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a special friend, Josephine Kendrick.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, November 16, 2001 at 2:00 P.M. from the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel by the Reverend Lamarr Mooneyham. Interment icon will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family received friends Thursday evening from 7:00-8:30 P.M. at the funeral home and at other times at the residence, 159 Parson Street.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to the American Red Cross, Danville Chapter 842 Main Street Danville, VA 24541 or the Danville Life Saving Crew 202 Christopher Lane Danville, VA 24541.

Thomas Conner

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Thomas Blenton Conner, 53, of 1724 Haskins St., died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at the residence.
Born Dec. 12, 1947, in Halifax County, he was a son of Cary Thomas Sr. and Doris Barksdale Thomas, who survive.
He was married to Elizabeth F. Conner, who survives. He was a welder for A.B.B. and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of South Boston and parents of South Boston, include one brother, Cary Thomas Jr. of South Boston; one sister, Betty T. Jones of Halifax; and one grandmother, Leslie Bebber of South Boston.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert M. Fox Jr. officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Brooks Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Halifax County Cancer Association, P.O. Box 875, South Boston, Va. 24592.

Nattie Curtis

WASHINGTON - Nattie Lawson Curtis, 89, of 5415 E. Capitol St., S.E., died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, at Grant Park Nursing Home.
Born Sept. 12, 1912 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Nathaniel Coleman and Lula Hubbard Coleman.
She was married to General Curtis, who predeceased her. She was a former resident of Pittsylvania County and a member of Second Baptist Church in Philadelphia. She was a former caregiver.
Survivors include one son, James Valentine Curtis of Germantown, Pa.; two brothers, George H. Chambers of Tappahannock, Va. and Robert Chambers of Washington; four sisters, Lillian A. Brown of Washington, Mattie P. Bembury of Chesapeake, Va., Sylvia G. Cook of Hurt, Va. and Emma G. Womack of Tappahannock, Va.
She was predeceased, in addition to her husband and parents, by two sisters, Ola Glass and Sarah E. DeJarnete and three brothers, Jessie S., William L. and Joseph L. Chambers.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Miller Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Talbert A. Callands officiating. Interment icon will follow at Chambers Family cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12-1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Bertha Goble

DANVILLE, Va. - Bertha Ewing Goble, 85, of 40 Oak Ridge Ave., died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center after three years of declining health and 23 days in the hospital.
Born Nov. 10, 1916, in Washington County, she was a daughter of Kim D. Ewing and Scott Stout Ewing.
She was married to Eugene Goble, who predeceased her in 1972. She lived in Danville since 1948, where she worked for 30 years at Dan River Inc. prior to her retirement on disability. She was a member of Full Gospel Fellowship Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Margaret Minter of Axton and Carolyn G. Tompkins of Danville; four sisters, Nina Payne, Frances Williamson, Brenda K. Robertson and Sylvia R. Mann, all of Danville; one brother, Stewart Ewing of Danville; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her husband and parents, by three sons, one sister and one brother.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Full Gospel Fellowship Church with the Rev. Roger Ewing officiating. Interment icon will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family received friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Swicegood Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Margaret Minter, 16189 Martinsville Highway in Axton.
Swicegood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mamie Harris

DANVILLE, Va. - Mamie Reynolds Harris, age 71, of 213 Cline Street, Danville, VA., completed her earthly existence on Nov. 15, 2001. She was born June 20, 1930, in Blanch, N.C., and was the daughter of John Samuel Reynolds and Rosa Hankins Reynolds.
Mrs. Harris attended Cobb Memorial High School in Caswell County, N.C., and held employment with Dan River Fabrics Inc. for 38 years, retiring in 1988.
She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Harris Newhouse, son-in-law, John E. Newhouse II, and grandson, Kent Edward Newhouse, all of Alexandria, VA.; one sister, Laura Dowdy of Danville; and two brothers, Richard Reynolds of Mineral, VA., and Harold Reynolds of Danville.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by three brothers, William, James, and John Reynolds.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, in The Church of Jesus Chirst of Latter Day Saints, 3058 North Main Street, Danville, with Elder Mark Wiley and Elder Richard Bliss officiating. Entombment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Terry Reynolds, Donnie Reynolds, John Reynolds, Ronnie Ball, Hinky Eanes, and Kent Newhouse.
The family will receive friends Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, at Townes Funeral Home from 7:00-8:30 pm and at the residence during the day.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in the name of Mamie Harris in care of Bishop Christopher L. Morgan Missionary Fund at 817 Kristen Lane, Danville, VA. 24540 or Doves Inc. in care of the Business Manager, P.O. Box 2381, Danville, VA. 24541.

James Jennings

LYNCHBURG, Va. - James Willie Jennings, 72, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at Lynchburg Nursing Home.
Born Sept. 11, 1929, in Halifax County, he was the son of Margie and Willie Jennings.
Survivors include two daughters, Valerie Thompson of Jersey City, N.J. and Deborah Skipper of Philadelphia, Pa.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Estelle Davis of Lynchburg; one brother, Anthony Jennings of Nathalie.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Ellis Creek Baptist Church in Nathalie with the Rev. Rodney Forrest officiating. Interment icon will follow at the church cemetery.
The viewing will be held following the morning service and until the time of the funeral.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Saturday at Crawford, Garrett and Burton Funeral Home.

Minnie Lamb

DANVILLE, Va. - Minnie Fenrich Lamb, 69, died Friday morning, Nov. 16, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center after four years of declining health and 2 1/2 years as a resident at Riverside Health Care Center.
Born Oct. 9, 1932, in Baltimore, Md., she was the daughter of Godfrey Fenrich and Elsie Klapp Fenrich.
She was married to William Abraham Lamb Jr., who predeceased her in August 1996. She was a school bus driver with Appomattox County Schools and was a member of Brush Arbor Baptist Church in Danville.
Survivors include one son, Pastor Stephen Lamb of Danville; one sister, Carmel Ensor of Cockeysville, Md. and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Kirkley-Ruddick Funeral Home in Glen Burnie, Md. Interment icon will follow at Glen Haven Memorial Park in Glen Burnie.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at Brush Arbor Baptist Church in Danville and other times at the residence of her son, 1129 Westover Drive in Danville and 7-9 p.m. Monday at Kirkley-Ruddick Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorials may be made to Brush Arbor Baptist Church, 1643 Blair Loop Road, Danville, Va. 24541.
Swicegood Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Doreacy Logan

CHATHAM, Va. - Doreacy Pannell Logan, 54, of 1705 Toshes Road, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, at the residence.
Born Aug. 22, 1947, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Jimmie Lee Pannell, who survives, and Lucille Pruitt Pannell.
She was married to David Logan, who survives. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Power of Deliverance Apostolic Holiness Church in Chatham.
Survivors, in addition to her father of Chatham and husband of the residence, include one daughter, Donna Stone of Danville; one son, David Berger of Halifax; four sisters, Shirley Jefferson of Chatham, Alberta Royal and Stella Bennett, both of Gretna and Ammie Johnson of Pittsville; four brothers, Curtis Pannell, Sylvester Pannell and Morris Pannell, all of Gretna and Jimmy Lewis Pannell of Danville; and one granddaughter.
She was predeceased, in addition to her mother, by three brothers, Len, James and Paige Pannell.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Miller Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Willie Giggetts officiating. Interment icon will follow at Burning Bush Holiness Church cemetery.

Rosa McGhee

DANVILLE, Va. - Rosa Fannie McGhee, 83, of 828 Paxton Ave., died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 1, 1918, in Caswell County, N.C., she was the daughter of George McGhee and Mae Fannie Sargent McGhee.
Survivors include two daughters, Elsie McGhee of Danville and Evelyn McGhee of Washington, D.C. and one son, Ottoway McGhee of Washington, D.C.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Beaulah Baptist Church with Dr. James Cabell officiating. Interment icon will follow at Oak Hill cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel.
