Aubrey Farmer

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Aubrey Gunn Farmer, 96, formerly of Woodlawn Drive in Danville, Va., died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at IHS of Fayetteville. He had been in declining health for several months.

Born Jan. 11, 1907, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Mark Anthony Farmer and Betty Hunt Farmer, who predeceased him.

He had lived in Danville until moving to Fayetteville in December 2001. He was retired from Dan River Mills, where he had worked as a machinist. He was also a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific.

He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church.

He married Louise Gosney Farmer Oct. 1, 1932.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Vicky Lynn Farmer, both of Fayetteville and one grandchild.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by 12 brothers and sisters.

The graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. William Blalock officiating. Military honors will be given by American Legion Dan River Post #1097.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wrenn-Yeatts, Westover Chapel. At other times they will be at the residence of Ann Farmer, 185 Hamlin Avenue.

Wrenn-Yeatts, Westover is in charge of arrangements.

Faye S. Hall

DANVILLE, Va. - Mrs. Faye S. Hall, 78, of 127 Wendell Court, died on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003 at her residence. She had been in declining health for the past four years.

Mrs. Hall was born in Danville, Jan. 28, 1925, a daughter of the late Clarence Howell Spooner and Margaret Carter Wilson.

A graduate of George Washington High School, Mrs. Hall was retired from Dan River, Inc., working in the inventory control department for many years.

Surviving are her husband of the home, Norman R. Hall. Two sons, Larry N. Hall of Danville and Mark C. Hall of Helena, Mont. One daughter, Mrs. Kim H. Fowlkes of Danville. One sister, Peggy Mealer of Danville. Also are four grandchildren, Renee L. Hall, Whitney E. Fowlkes, Jonathon T. Fowlkes and Jami L. Sheppard, all of Danville.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003 at 2 p.m. from Danville Memorial Gardens Chapel. Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the residence, 127 Wendell Court.

Townes Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Elizabeth Schreutelkamp Huyser

CHATHAM, Va. - Elizabeth (Betty) Schreutelkamp Huyser, 66, of 11576 Franklin Turnpike, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, at Danville Regional Medical Center after nine months of declining health.

Born June 9, 1936, in Rotterdam, Holland, she was the daughter of Johannes Schreutelkamp and Elizabeth Maria Berendrecht Schreutelkamp Rozing, and the step daughter of Hermanus Lambertus Rozing, all deceased.

Mrs. Huyser moved to Chatham with her husband from New Jersey in the early 1990s. Mrs. Huyser was a dedicated homemaker and was employed for a period of time as a lab inspector at Continental Can Company, Inc. in Piscataway, N.J. While employed, she served as local president of the GMP International Union (AFL-CIO, CLC).

She married Stephanus (Steve) Wilhelmus Huyser on Nov. 7, 1956.

In addition to her husband of the residence, she is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Eleonora (Ellen) Handerhan and her husband, Dennis R. Handerhan, of Florida and Barbara Diane (Diane) Lucia and her husband, Kim A. Lucia, of Danville; two sons, Robert (Rob) William Huyser of California and Stephanus (Steven) Junior Huyser of New Hampshire; three brothers, Karel L. Schreutelkamp of Belgium, Hermanus (Herman) L. Rozing III and Everardus (Joe) J. Rozing, both of New Jersey; two sisters Gertrude (Ger) Van Vliet of New Jersey and Francisca (Sis) P. Higson of Florida; and five grandchildren, Jeremy M. Lucia, Joshua (Josh) K. Lucia, Sean R. Handerhan, Shannon A. Lucia and Kelly E. Handerhan.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at the home of her daughter, Barbara Lucia, 813 Corn Tassel Road, Danville, with the Rev. Louis F. Emerson officiating.

The family will receive friends Friday at the residence and her husband will receive friends at the residence at other times.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Danville Cancer Association, 2323 Riverside Drive, Suite J, Danville, VA 24540, in honor of Dr. Stewart A. Sharp and staff.

Walter Martin Jones

NATHALIE, Va. - Walter Martin Jones, 52, of 1112 Boxwood Road, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003 at Halifax Regional Hospital.

Born July 11, 1950, in Miami, Fla., he was the son of J. Walter Jones and Vivian Puckett Jones.

He was a member of Virginia Association of Surveyors and RC Flyers Club.

He is survived by one daughter, Anna Maria Jones of Nathalie; and four sisters, Elinor Jones Pyles of Midlothian, Melanie Jones Rubeck of Mechanicsville, Anne Jones Wood of Wilmington, N.C. and Pam Jones of Durham, N.C.

The memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Russell Lee officiating.

For memorials, please consider the Halifax County Rescue Squad.

Christine Meadows Kronkowski

CHATHAM, Va. - Christine Meadows Kronkowski, 63, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003 at Danville Regional Medical Center.

Born Jan. 29, 1939, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of John Henry Meadows and Madeline Mays Meadows, who predeceased her.

She was a member of Samuel Harris Memorial Baptist Church.

She was married to William Richard Kronkowski.

In addition to her husband, of the residence, she is also survived by two daughters, Sherrie K. English of Gretna and Connie K. Crews of Chatham; two sons, Billy Kronkowski and Michael Kronkowski, both of Chatham; three brothers, Junior L. Meadows and H. Michael Meadows, both of Chatham and Ronald W. Meadows of Danville; one sister, Shirley M. Jones of King William, Va; and four grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Joan M. Woodson.

The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Samuel Harris Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas Wright and the Rev. Henry M. Meadows Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Burial Park.

The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Thursday at Scott Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Samuel Harris Memorial Baptist Church Scholarship Fund or the Building Fund.

Darion Noell

BURLINGTON, N.C. - Infant Darion Noell of 414 Rauhut St., died Monday, January 27, 2003.

He was the son of Anthony and Stacy Noell.

He arrived and was too young to survive and he accepted his angel wings.

In addition to his parents, of the residence, he is survived by his brother, Donovan Noell, also of the residence; his maternal grandparents, John and Inez Bumper, Danville, Va.; his paternal grandparents, Jimmy and Geneva Noell, Mebane, N.C.; and his uncle, Kevin Bumper, Danville, N.C.

There will be a private burial service.

The family will receive friends 6:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at McClure Funeral Service in Graham.

Louise Nuckols Pinckney

DANVILLE, Va. - Louise Nuckols Pinckney, 80, of 120 Old Piney Forest Road, Lot #34, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at Danville Regional Medical Center, after being in declining health for eight weeks and in the hospital for one week.

Born April 20, 1922, in Chatham, she was the daughter of Jesse James Nuckols and Ada Powell Nuckols, who predeceased her.

She was of the Baptist faith. She had been a resident of Danville since 1994.

She was retired from the Spring Factory in Malvern, Pennsylvania, where she worked as a spring machine operator.

She married Kenneth Francis Pinckney on Nov. 26, 1948. He predeceased her Sept. 16, 1993.

She is survived by one brother, Billy Nuckols of Danville and two sisters, Margie N. Kellar of Summerfield, N.C. and Jerry N. Wilkinson of Danville.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one sister, Mildred N. DeVall.

The memorial graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Danville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Steve Carlton officiating.

The family received friends 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts, North Main Chapel.

The family suggests that memorials may be made to Hospice Support Services, P.O. Box 2713, Danville, VA 24541 or to the Danville Life Saving Crew, 202 Christopher Lane, Danville, VA 24541.

Ercell Clayton Satterfield

RUFFIN, N.C. - Ercell Clayton Satterfield, 88, of 10724 Park Springs Rd., died Tuesday at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Birchwood Cemetery in Roxboro, N.C.

A native of Caswell County, she was a daughter of the late George Lee and Leona Moorefield Clayton and had lived in Caswell County most of her life. She retired from the cafeteria at Cobb Memorial High School with 31 years service and was a member of Locust Hill United Methodist Church. Mrs. Satterfield was preceded in death by her husband, Owen Lee Satterfield, son, Edgar Owen Lee Satterfield, sister, Leona C. Cobb, brother, Elwood Clayton, and granddaughter, Ida Lee Hovatter.

Surviving is a daughter, Mary Lee Satterfield Hovatter and husband Huel of the home; a brother, Julius Lee Clayton of Pelham; two sisters, Geneva C. Williamson and Helen C. Somers, both of Reidsville; grandchildren, Barbara James and husband Steve of Ruffin and Thomas Hovatter of Ruffin.

In keeping with Mrs. Satterfield's wishes, her body will be taken to the residence on Wednesday, where it will remain until Friday afternoon. The family will receive friends at the residence. Citty Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Martha Petty Stephens

CHATHAM, Va. - Martha Petty Stephens, 87, of 1224 Spring Garden Road, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003 at Danville Regional Medical Center.

Born Feb. 7, 1915, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Peter Petty and Sallie Lovelace Petty, who predeceased her.

She was a member of Shockoe Baptist Church, where she served as a member of the senior choir and nurses unit and was a member of the Courts of Colanthe Lodge #230 of Shockoe.

She was married to Robert Curtis Stephens, who predeceased her.

She is survived by seven daughters, Patricia Pope of Chatham, Sallie Poindexter of Danville, Natella S. Colbert, Yvonne Hartridge, Clara Miller and Constance Miller, all of Washington, DC, Gertrude Williams of Upper Marlboro, Md.; four sons, Leon Stephens and Jeyvester Stephens, both of Chatham, Curtis Stephens Jr. of Md. and Ronnie Stephens of Washington, DC; 24 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by seven sisters, Annie Walton, Fannie Will, Mary Emma Petty, Sarah Petty, Ethel Coleman, Nessie Miller and Dillie Chaplin; and four brothers, Norman, Steven, Henry and Johnny Petty.

The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Friday at the Shockoe Baptist Church with the Rev. Kevin McNeil officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

She will lie in state at the church on Friday from noon until the time of the funeral service.

Henry Rudolph Williams

DANVILLE, Va. - Henry Rudolph Williams, 78, of 100 Elwood Ave., died Monday Jan. 27, 2003 at Danville Regional Medical Center.

Born April 19, 1924, in Danville, he was the son of Bias Dolan Williams and Annie Cassell Williams Doss, who predeceased him.

He was a Corporal in the Army Air Force Air Service Group from March 1943 to January 1946. He worked as a mechanic for Barkhouser Motors.

He served in the Tanian Island in the Southwest Pacific. He was a lifetime member of the Westover Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of St. Mark's Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he was a choir member and was active in Vacation Bible School activities. He was known as "the neighborhood fix it man."

He was married to Rita B. Strader Williams.

In addition to his wife, of the residence, he is survived by three sons, Kenneth R. Williams of Dry Fork, Roy Strader Jr. of Manassas and William W. Strader of Danville; two daughters, Carolyn S. Cassell and Sue S. East, both of Danville; one brother, Jesse N. Williams of Danville; one sister, Nellie W. Turner of Winston-Salem, N.C.; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one son, Bob Strader; one daughter, Barbara W. Morris; one brother, "Bill" Williams; and two sisters, Jeanette Cox and Mary Williams.

The funeral will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mark's Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Henry Taylor officiating. Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens with military honors given by the American Legion, Dan River Post #1097 77th Air Service Group.The family received friends 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel. At other times they will be at the home of Carolyn Cassell, 361 Jeanette Drive in the Mount Hermon community.

Flowers are welcome but contributions may also be made to the St. Mark's Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1201 South Boston Rd., Danville, VA 24540.

Clay Adams

GRETNA, Va. - Clay Albert Adams, 84, of Gretna, died Friday, May 17, 2002 at Gretna Health Care Center.

Born December 24, 1917 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Willie Vaden "Bill" Adams and Bertha Swain Adams.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of Round Pond Baptist Church and was a retired farmer.

Survivors include four brothers, Carlos Adams of Lynchburg, Herbert Adams of North Carolina, Johnny Adams of Evington and Robert Delano Adams of Gretna; three sisters, Dora White of White, Ga., Annie Clingenpeel of Martinsville, and Ruth Gregory of Kissimmee, Fla.

He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by one sister, Joyce Hoskins, and one brother, Alfred Douglas Adams.

The graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the Swain Family Cemetery with the Rev. Bobby Adams officiating. Military honors by VFW Post 4165 and DAV Chapter 46 will follow the service.

The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Sunday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.

Mary Coleman

DANVILLE, Va. - Mary Helen Coleman, 73, of Pinecrest Adult Home, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002 at Danville Regional Medical Center.

Born March 4, 1929 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Johnny Barksdale Coleman and Mary Bertha Lumpkin Coleman.

She was a member of Grace Design United Methodist Church and attended Fairview United Methodist Church where she was an active member of the Henry Hardy Sunday School Class. She lived in the Iris Lane community of Pittsylvania County and had been a resident of Pinecrest Adult Home for 12 years.

She is survived by two brothers, C. Neal Coleman and Buford W. Coleman, both of Danville.

She was predeceased, in addition to her parents, by three sisters, Bessie C. Lumpkin, Edna C. Thompson, and Janie C. Newsom, and three brothers, Frank J. Coleman, John Wesley Coleman, and Daniel Coleman.

The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Revs. Thomas B. Shepherd and Robert S. Whalley officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel and at other times at the residence of Buford Coleman, 617 Iris Lane, Danville.
