Virginia, U.S., Marriage Records, 1936-2014

William D. Alexander

William D. Alexander, 16, of Moseley, passed away July 1, 2001.

He is survived by his grandparents (Mom and Dad); Clifford A. Wells Jr. and Linda L. Wells; biological mother, Tina; half sisters, Linda Belle and Destiny; uncles, Danny, Allan, John and Dwayne and their families; his special friend, Heather; and nieces and nephews.

William was a student at Cloverhill High School and a black belt in Karate. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, and where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday. Interment Dale Memorial Park.

Robert L. Roberts Sr.

Robert L. "Bobby" Roberts Sr., of Powhatan, died July 1, 2001.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine Roberts; one son, Robert L. Roberts Jr. of Ohio; one daughter, Rhonda R. Foster of Powhatan; one sister, Peggy Lee Gentry of Sandston; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home. 3215 Anderson Hwy. (Rt. 60), Powhatan, and where services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday. Interment Powhatan Community Cemetery.

Fenton C. Gray Jr.

Fenton C. Gray Jr., 67, of Richmond, passed away Monday, July 2, 2001.

He was the widower of Dorothy O. Gray and is survived by his son, Carl I. Gray of Midlothian; sisters, Connie G. Howard of Sandston and Shirley G. Bradbury of Powhatan; brother, Phillip Gray of New Jersey. Also five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Services and interment will be private. Morrissett Funeral Home handling arrangements.

Edna Booker Johnson

Edna Booker Johnson of 201 Norcroft Terrace, formerly of Amelia Co., departed this life July 2, 2001 at HealthSouth Medical Center.

She is survived by her husband, Bernard Johnson; several nephews and nieces, among them one devoted, Marian Booker; a sister-in-law, Sarah Booker, other relatives and friends.

Remains rests at the Carlton T. Brooks Funeral Home, 2200 Hull St., where funeral services will be held Wednesday, 1 p.m., Rev. Henry Whittle officiating. Interment Maury Cemetery.
Relatives and friends attending services assemble Wednesday, 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Richard Timothy Frazier

Richard Timothy (Tim) Frazier, 53, of Kenbridge, Va., died July 3, 2001.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Joyce Daniel Frazier; his two sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and Kathy Frazier of Midlothian, and Eddie and Diane Frazier of Brodnax; his mother, Catherine Gills Frazier of Kenbridge, who now resides at Heritage Hall in Amelia; and his sister, Judith Frazier of Kenbridge; and his mother-in-law, Mildred Daniel of Victoria.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2001, in Crestview Memorial Park, South Hill, Va. The family will receive friends at the Clarke Funeral Home in Kenbridge on Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial contribtutions may be made to the Kenbridge Baptist Church or the Kenbridge Emergency Squad.

Leon Virgil Hicks

Leon Virgil Hicks entered eternal rest at 6:55 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at McGuire Veterans Hospital, Richmond, Va.

He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted wife, Estelle; one daughter, Trisha of Powhatan; two sons, Cornelius of Richmond and Rodney of Powhatan; one daughter-in-law, Wanda; two granddaughters, Sabrina and Amber of Powhatan; two grandsons, Brandon of Maryland and Ryan of Richmond; a sister, Roslyn Hicks of Richmond; four brothers, Raymond Jr. of Richmond and lifelong friend, Minnie Gillard, Rev. Revell and wife, Barbara of Powhatan, Jackie of Angeles City, Philippines and Stanley of Powhatan, Va.; three aunts, Edna Brown of Powhatan, Va., Thelma Branch and husband, Andrew of Richmond, Va., Bertha Gray and husband, Alfred, of Riverhead, L.I., N.Y.; two devoted nieces, Kelley and Sherry; mother-in-law, Blanche Taylor; two devoted sisters-in-law, Tina and Mary; and a host of other nieces, nephews and friends.

His remains rest at Marian Gray Thomas Funeral Home, Cumberland, Va. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Monday, July 9, 2001, at the Mount Zion Baptist Church, Powhatan, Va., where remains will lie in state from 12 to 2 p.m. Rev. James Robinson, Pastor, officiating. Family and friends assemble at the church at 1:30 p.m. Interment in church cemetery.

Carson Michael Ramsey

Carson Michael Ramsey of Powhatan passed on to heaven with his daddy, Keith Michael Ramsey, July 4, 2001.

He is survived by his mother, Kristen Ramsey; paternal grandparents, Michael and Susan Ramsey of Powhatan; maternal grandparents, Kimberly and Ronnie Bankert of Powhatan and Drew Owens of Chesterfield; paternal great-grandfather, Walter Ramsey of Powhatan; maternal great-grandparents, John and Shirley Osborne of Chesterfield and Andy and Fran Owens of South Hill; two aunts, Andrea Owens and Melissa Ramsey; one uncle, Kevin Ramsey; one devoted great-aunt, Aunt "D"; and many other great-aunts and uncles.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy. (Rt. 60), Powhatan. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m. in the Powhatan United Methodist Church, Powhatan. Interment Powhatan Community Cemetery.

Keith Michael Ramsey

Keith Michael Ramsey of Powhatan passed on to heaven July 4, 2001.

He is survived by his wife, Kristen Ramsey; his parents, Michael and Susan Ramsey; one brother, Kevin Ramsey; one sister, Melissa Ramsey; paternal grandfather, Walter Ramsey, all of Powhatan; mother and fathers-in-law, Kimberly and Ronnie Bankert of Powhatan and Drew Owens of Chesterfield; sister-in-law, Andrea Owens of Chesterfield; and many loving aunts, uncles and friends.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy. (Rt. 60), Powhatan. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m. in the Powhatan United Methodist Church, Powhatan. Interment Powhatan Community Cemetery.

Blake Ford Traylor

Infant Blake Ford Traylor went to become an angel in Heaven on Friday, July 6, 2001.

She leaves behind her parents, Gary W. and Elizabeth Sadler Traylor; a sister, Ashley Gail Traylor, all of Jetersville; paternal grandparents, Bobby Traylor of Crewe, and Arlene Hudson Traylor of Blackstone; maternal grandmother, Florence K. Sadler of Burkeville.

Chapel funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 11, at 11 a.m. at the Hamner-McMillian Funeral Home in Blackstone with burial to follow in Crewe Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to The Compassionate Friends, Southside Chapter #2060, P.O. Box 451, Victoria, Va. 23974.

Melvin L. Fair

Melvin L. "Tom" Fair, 80, of Powhatan, died July 7, 2001.

He is survived by his wife, Hallie C. Fair; three daughters, Mildred Marks of Yorktown, Eva Smith and Eleanor Smith, both of Richmond; one sister, Pauline Campbell of Charlottesville; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Monday night from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy. (Rt. 60), Powhatan, and where services will be held Tuesday, 11 a.m. Interment United Christian Pentacostal Church Cemetery, Powhatan.

Ruby Bell Morrison

Ruby Bell Morrison, 74, of Powhatan, died July 8, 2001.

She is survived by her children, Janet M. Willis, James "Bubba" Morrison, Carl R. Morrison, and Melvin L. Morrison; stepmother, Elsie M. Bell, all of Powhatan; three brothers, F. B. Mahanes of Pennsylvania, Kenneth F. Bell of Midlothian, and Carlton L. Bell of Powhatan; two sisters, Phyllis M. Layton of Richmond and Lillie Mae Stratton of Powhatan; eight grandchildren, Jason, Chris, Michelle, Jeff, Melody, Wendy, Jonathan, and Nicholas.

The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy. (Rt. 60), Powhatan, and where services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday. Interment Powhatan Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Stanley May Memorial Cancer Fund, 4100 Worsham Rd., Powhatan, Va. 23139.

Charles Randolph Kennon Jr.

Charles Randolph Kennon Jr., son of Helen Finney and Charles R. Kennon Sr., died on Sunday, July 8, 2001 at the age of 90 at his ancestral home, Norwood in Powhatan County, Virginia, where he was born on July 1, 1911.

He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Lipscomb Kennon; and his son, Charles R. Kennon III. He is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth K. Shuey, Constance K. Harriss and Mary K. McDaniel; 10 grandchildren, Elizabeth Mundin Coleman, Margaret Mundin McElroy, Lewis Howard Mundin IV, John Russell Williams IV, Arthur Wideman Harrison III, Charles Kennon Harrison Sr., Mary McDaniel Ziletti, Peter Randolph McDaniel, Anne McDaniel Pollard and Beverley Kennon Payne; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, William Upshur Kennon; and his first cousin, William Gilliam Kennon Jr. He was also predeceased by one sister, Constance Kennon Laird; and one brother, Richard Randolph Kennon Sr.

He was a lifelong member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, where he served for many years on the vestry as a junior and senior warden. He served his beloved Powhatan County as a member and chairman of the School Board and as a member of the Industrial Development Commission.

A funeral service will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church on Wednesday, July 11 at 11 a.m. with the burial to follow in the church cemetery. Contributions may be made to the St. Luke's Churchyard Fund, 2245 Huguenot Trail, Powhatan, Va. 23139 or to St. Christopher's School, 711 St. Christopher's Rd., Richmond, Va. 23226. Services will be conducted by Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, Powhatan.

Duane McMillion Cook

Duane McMillion Cook, 39, of Richmond, died on July 11, 2001.

He is survived by his son, Brandon; companion, Linda Yancy; mother, Faye McMillion Cook of Amelia; and father, Thomas P. Cook, of Midlothian; sister, Cindy Johnson, of Glen Allen; brother, Thomas P. Cook, Jr., of Amelia; grandmother, Elaine Mitchell McMillion of Amelia; and was predeceased by his grandfather, Bernard McMillion; nephews, Ryland and Ridge Johnson of Glen Allen; and Tommy and Jessica Cook of Amelia; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Graveside services Saturday 11 a.m. at Little Flock Cemetery. Visiting at the Hillsman-Hix Funeral 16409 Court St. 7-9 p.m.on Friday. Family and friends will meet at 10 a.m. on Saturday and proceed to the cemetery.

Annie M. Oulds

Annie M. Oulds of Jetersville died Wednesday, July 11, 2001, Richmond, Va.

She is survived by her devoted husband, John C. Oulds; sisters, Alice England and Virginia Hill of New York City, N.Y., Jesse Bell and Cornelia Johnson of Baltimore, Md., Juanita Robinson of Rice and Pearl Walker of Pamplin; brothers, Moses Thornton of Rice, James Thornton of Bronx, N.Y., and Charlie Thornton of Baltimore. Md.; nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law, many other loving relatives and friends.

Funeral services Sunday, July 15, 3 p.m., Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Highway 360 East, Amelia, with interment, Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Amelia, on Monday. V.Y. Scott Funeral Home, Highway 360 East, Amelia, in charge of arrangements.

William Alexander Crews

William Alexander Crews, 82, of 5100 Hog Wallow Road, Nathalie, died Thursday, July 12, 2001, at Halifax Regional Hospital.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ethel B. Epperson Crews. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, John William (Bill) Crews of Jetersville; one daughter, Morgan Alexander of Farmville; five grandchildren, John W. Crews Jr. of Jetersville, J. Allison Crews of Farmville, Charles Henry Morse of Richmond, Matthew Turner of Washington, D.C., Stan Crews of Greensboro, N.C.; four great-grandchildren, four brothers, Verp Crews, Richard Crews, Roy Crews, all of Hurt, Edison Crews of Gretna; one sister, Katherine C. Robey of Lynchburg. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda C. Newcomb; father and mother-in-law, John F. and Ethel Epperson; three brothers, two sisters.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 22, 2001 at Childrey Baptist Church by the Rev. Rodney Barwick. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund at Childrey Baptist Church. Henderson Funeral Home, Brookneal is in charge of arrangements.

Reba Thelma Mack

Reba Thelma Mack, 67, of Cumberland, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, July 12, 2001, in Powhatan, Va.

She is survived by her mother, Annie Trent Hobson; two daughters, Reba Ann Jarrett and Linda Mack Trent; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two goddaughters; one brother, Eddie Hobson Jr.; three sisters, Betty, Annie and Evelyn Montague; two sons-in-law, three sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Her remains rest at Marian Gray Thomas Funeral Home of Cumberland. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 2 p.m. at Rocky Mount Baptist Church, Cumberland. Rev. Larry Smith, Pastor, officiating, with interment in the church cemetery.
