Cora L.J. Cardwell
Cora Lee Johnson Cardwell, 89, of Kilmarnock, Va. passed away on Monday, March 28, 2005.
Mrs. Cardwell is survived by two sons; Allan David Cardwell and his wife, Peng, of Herndon, Frank Fisher Cardwell Jr. and his wife, Dianne, of King George, Va.; one daughter, Sharon Cardwell Fisher and her husband, Carl James, of Reedville, Va.; four grandchildren, Frank Fisher Cardwell III, Victoria Cardwell Bunch, Michelle Fisher Barb and Carl James Fisher Jr; and five great-grandchildren, Alexandra Cardwell, Nicole Barb, Jodie Hairfield, Carrie Fisher and Jayme Fisher.
She was born June 21, 1915 to Leola Dobbin Parker and Thomas Longstreet Johnson. She married Frank Fisher Cardwell on Dec. 3, 1939 in Alexandria, and they lived in Washington, D.C., and Manassas. Her husband passed away Sept. 28, 1972.
Mrs. Cardwell worked at National Geographic magazine in Washington as an associate editor and then for many years worked for Prince William County as the clerk to the Board of Supervisors.
She was a longtime member of Manassas Baptist Church, where she served as deacon, taught an adult Sunday school class, and authored a book on the church history for the 100th anniversary in 1984, "Following the Dream."
Throughout her life, Mrs. Cardwell wrote a number of poems published in 1994 in a book, "Along the Trail." She loved reading and writing poetry, gardening, and taking trips to the mountains and to the Chesapeake Bay.
The family received friends Thursday, March 31 at Townes Funeral Home Chapel in Danville, Va. Burial was at Cardwell Family Cemetery in Danville.

Dorca Berrouet Bazan
Dorca Berrouet Bazan, of Herndon, died Friday, March 25, 2005 at Loudoun Hospital Center.
Mrs. Bazan was born Sept. 27, 1928 in Haiti to the late Alberoni and Carmelite Lapin Berrouet. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernst P. Bazan, her son, Ernst Bazan Jr., and two sisters, Alberoni and Marie Denise.
She is survived by her children; Gisele, Arthur, Jeanine and Ricardo Lovelace, Ronald and Karl Louhisdon and Margarette Bazan; and her sisters, Irmine, Raymonde, Eveline and Nirvah.
She was the grandmother of Erica Bush and Christina and Vanessa Boosahda. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, April 1 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Herndon. Interment was at Chestnut Grove Memorial Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the American Diabetes Association, 1211 Connecticut Avenue NW, Suite 204, Washington, D.C. 20036. Arrangements were made by Adams-Green Funeral Home in Herndon.

Charles Michael Blalock
Charles Michael Blalock, 45, of Herndon died Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital. He was born Sept. 14, 1959 in Virginia Beach, Va., to Jessie Alford Blalock of Virginia Beach and the late Rev. Charles Blalock.
Mr. Blalock was the beloved husband of Darcie Blalock, loving and devoted father of Kyle Michael, Blake Charles and Brenna Shea, brother of Douglas Blalock, Susan Pearman and her husband Steve, and Nancy Bloebaum and her husband Scott. He is also survived by two nieces and one nephew.
The family received friends Friday, March 25 at Adams-Green Funeral Home in Herndon. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 26 at Floris United Methodist Church in Herndon, with graveside services at National Memorial Park in Falls Church.
Memorials may be made to Mike and Darcie Blalock’s Children Fund, c/o Floris United Methodist Church, 2730 Centreville Road, Herndon, Va. 20171.

Honey B.C. Gardner
Honey Beth Charlton Gardner of Herndon, mother of Thomas and Joseph Gardner and grandmother of Austyn Branch Gardner, died Aug. 2, 2005 after a long battle with emphysema.
She is also survived by her mother Nancy Charlton, sister Dora Wall and Allen Wall.
Mrs. Gardner was a mother whose loving hands and heart have touched, healed and nurtured many. She was a school bus driver when her boys were in school. She was always the "team mom" and willing to help in any way.
Memorial services were held Aug. 10 at All Souls Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C. Memorials may be made to Austyn’s College Fund at 43856 Chloe Terrace, Ashburn, VA 20147.

Anna A. Cantarella
Anna A. Cantarella, formerly of Sterling, died July 18, 2005, after a long battle with cancer. She was 67.
She is the daughter of the late Nellie and Leon Cantarella of Camden, N.J., and sister of the late Salvatore Cantarella of Cherry Hill, N.J., and Brother Richard "Joseph" Cantarella of the Salvatorian Missions, New Holstein, Wisc. She is survived by her brother Terence of Silver Springs, Md.; a niece Charina of Alexandria, Va.; nephews Christopher of Burke, Va. and Terence of Miami, Fla.;three great nephews, as well as, many friends.
Ms. Cantarella graduated from Camden Catholic High School in 1955. She also attended Pierce Jr. Business College in Philadelphia. She worked for the U.S. government for 35 years during which time she served in embassies in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; La Paz, Bolivia; Rome, Italy; Genoa, Italy; New Delhi, India; TelAviv, Israel and Cairo, Egypt. She also worked for three years at the U.S. Army's Recreational Center in Garmish, Germany.
A viewing will be held Saturday, July 30, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Broadway and Market St., Camden, N.J. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Cherry Hill, N.J.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Salvatorian Mission Warehouse, 1303 Milwaukee Dr., New Holstein, Wisconsin 53061. Arrangements were by Terranova Funeral Home in New Jersey.

Rodney Kushner
Rodney Kushner, 70, of Sterling died on Sunday, July 24, 2005, at Reston Hospital. Mr. Kushner was born on Jan. 25, 1935, in Washington, D.C. He was the son of the late Fred Talbot and Helen Pearson.
He was a carpenter for 44 years and is survived by his wife, Fredda Kushner, three sons, Wayne, Robert and Randall Kushner, one daughter, Debbie Capitan, two brothers, Fred Talbot and Billy Kushner and three sisters, Harriette Gallagher, Charlotte Kennedy, and Nora Mott.
Eight grandchildren Michael, Brian, Cameron, Chance, Samantha, Tori, Cara and Bob also survive Mr. Kushner.
The family will received friends July 27, 2005. Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 28, 2005, at 11 a.m. Interment was at Union Cemetery in Leesburg.
Arrangements were handled by Loudoun Funeral Chapel, Inc., in Leesburg.

Mary L. Woods
Mary Leone Woods died on Sunday, July 24, 2005. She was the mother of Jennifer Deidre Guendolen, Alison and John and the grandmother of Megan, Jessica, Olivia, Natalie, Jacob, Zachary, Matthew, Connor and Andrew.
The family will receive friends at Adams-Green Funeral Home in Herndon on Wednesday.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Thomas a Becket Catholic Church, 1421 Wiehle Ave, in Reston on Thursday, July 28, 2005. Interment was at Fairfax Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 2625 Third Avenue, Seattle, WA 98121.

Mary Mathes Simpson
Mary Mathes Simpson, 85, former longtime resident of Canton, N.Y., died Oct. 19, 2005 in Hermosa Beach, Calif. She was born Jan. 31, 1920 in Lynn, Mass., to the late Dr. Roy Mathes and Madeline Lucretia Wiggin Mathes.
Mrs. Simpson graduated from English High School in 1935, obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Boston College in 1940 and a masters degree from Syracuse University in 1942. She completed doctoral coursework at the University of Wisconsin and was a psychology professor at SUNY Canton College until her retirement in 1984.
Mrs. Simpson was a master bridge player and enjoyed modern dance, swimming, diving and camping. She was a Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout den mother and Sunday school superintendent at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Canton.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Robert C. Simpson, who was a mathematics professor at St. Lawrence University.
Mrs. Simpson was survived by three sons; John M. Simpson of Redondo Beach, Calif. (formerly of Reston), Mark F. Simpson of Princeton Junction, N.J., Richard Y. Simpson of Altamont, N.Y.; four daughters, Martha Haber of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Janet Beissinger of Oak Park, Ill., Annie Simpson of Reston and Nancy Simpson Wunsche of Charleston, S.C.; 22 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 29, at 10 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Reston.

Angela Dawn 'Angie' Torgerson
Angela Dawn "Angie" Torgerson, 30, died Oct. 20, 2005 at Reston Hospital Center. She was born Aug. 26, 1975 in Manassas to Terry (Donna) Short and Darlene (Jeffrey) Streilein. Along with her parents, she is survived by her husband, Jesse Torgerson, and daughter, Grace Elizabeth Torgerson of Reston. She was the sister of Jason Mullins, Ximena and Ezekiel Streilein and David Short. She was the granddaughter of Curtis and Betty Short and James and Evelyn Parsons.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at Adams-Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden St., Herndon from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 27 at United Christian Parish Church, 11508 North Shore Dr., Reston at 1 p.m.
Interment at Stonewall Memory Gardens in Manassas. Donations may be made in her name to the Lance Armstrong Foundation, P.O. Box 130819, Houston, TX 77219.

Steven E. Loyk
Steven E. Loyk of Herndon died Oct. 20, 2005. He was born Dec. 18, 1963 in Virginia to the late Victor and Ruth Elliot Loyk. He was a stepson of the late June Loyk.
Mr. Loyk is survived by two sisters, Ginny Sawick of Machias, Maine and Gina De Grange of Ocean City, Md.; one stepsister, Marie Klinko; two nieces, Marie Elena Woodcock and Karen Liebrand; one nephew, Robert Klinko; and one great-nephew Richard Florian.
Services were held Oct. 26 at Adams-Green Funeral Home in Herndon. Interment was at Chestnut Grove Cemetery.

Mary Lann Brunhouse
Mary Lann Brunhouse, of Herndon, died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005 at her residence. She was born Aug. 10, 1915 in Beaverdale, Pa. to the late Claude and Mary Plassard Lann. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Stewart Brunhouse.
She is survived by her children, Judy Sapienza and her husband Guy, of Herndon, and R. Stewart Brunhouse and his wife Barbara, of Lebanon, N.J. She is also survived by six grandchildren and one great grandson.
Services were held on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Interment at Chestnut Grove Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Capital Hospice, 6565 Arlington Blvd. #501, Falls Church, VA 22042. Arrangements by Adams-Green Funeral Home.

Everett J. Sherman Jr.
Everett J. Sherman Jr., 66, of Reston died of leukemia on Nov. 29. He was an engineer by training, and retired two months ago from Sytex Inc, a defense contractor, where he was a project manager. He had previously spent 20 years at GTE and 15 years at the former Digital Equipment Corp.
Mr. Sherman was born in Baltimore and was one of the first African American students to attend Baltimore's then all-white public preparatory high school Polytechnic Institute. He graduated from Morgan State University in Baltimore with a bachelor's degree in mathematics.
He lived in the Washington, D.C. area for 22 years and provided substance abuse counseling to inmates at the Fairfax County jail.
He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Sherman of Reston; son Jay Sherman of New York; daughter Janine Barrois of Los Angeles; and two sisters Yvonne Archer and Barbara Bates of Baltimore.
The family received friends at a memorial service on Dec. 7 at First Baptist Chuch in Vienna. Donations may be sent to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, P.O. Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202.

Caroline E. Myres
Caroline Emily Myres of Herndon died on Monday, Nov. 7, 2005 at Heritage Hall Nursing Center in Leesburg. She was born Sept. 11, 1917 in Washington, D.C. to the late James and Annie Elizabeth Ellison Myres.
She was a former member of the Herndon Business and Professional Women's Organization and a member of the Fortnightly Club. She was survived by many friends.
Services were held at Adams-Green Funeral Home on Nov. 10 with the Rev. David Manner officiating. Interment was at Chestnut Grove Cemetery.

John A. Campbell
John A. Campbell of Reston died on Dec.2, 2005. He was born in Hutton Valley, Mo. on Feb. 12, 1914. He lived in Missouri, California, New Mexico and Utah before moving to Reston in 1996.
Mr. Campbell was preceded in death by his wife Florence Ethel Campbell on March 12, 2000. He is survived by his son, David B. Campbell of California;daughter Linda and son-in-law John Lopez of Reston; grandchildren Coutney, Adam, Mayela and Zay; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, P.O. Box 515, Northhampton, MA 01061-0515.

Jeannette D. Bryant
Jeannette D. Bryant of Great Falls died Dec. 6, 2005, at her daughter's residence in Manassas.
Mrs. Bryant was born Jan., 11, 1938, in Cumberland, Md., to the late Scott Walton Davis and Mable Swisher Davis. She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Bryant. She was a retired Fairfax County School teacher.
Mrs. Bryant is survived by her son, James C. Bryant Jr. and his wife Anne Marie of Great Falls, and daughter Stephanie Bryant Taylor and her husband Thomas of Manassas. Mrs. Bryant is also survived by three grandchildren: Michael, Jimmy and Joseph. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 11, at Adams-Green Funeral Home at 721 Elden St., in Herndon. Services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 12, at Great Falls United Methodist Church at 10100 Georgetown Pike. Interment will be at National Memorial Park.

Shelton Fletcher
Shelton Fletcher, 81, of Lakeland, Fla., died of heart failure Nov. 22, 2005, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Orlando on March 9, 1924, he came to Lakeland from Herndon, Va., in 2001. He was a retired construction superintendent. He was a Marine Corps veteran and a life member of the McLean Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.
Mr. Fletcher was preceded in death by his first wife, Fay Fletcher, and a daughter Terry Smith. He is survived by his second wife, Katherine Fletcher; daughter Sherry Batis of Lakeland; sons Chuck Moore of Delaware and Kevin Moore of Lakeland; sister Alma Burkett of Windemere, Fla.; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Jan. 20, 2006, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 202 S. Massachusetts Ave., in Lakeland. Arrangements were made by Central Florida Casket Store and Funeral Chapel.

Gerhard 'Jerry' Soderstrom
Gerhard "Jerry" Soderstrom of Herndon died on Jan. 17, 2006 at Arlington Hospital. He was born Aug. 13, 1938 in Uxbridge, Mass. to the late Garhard A. and Margaret Haven Soderstrom. He was a veteran of the United States Navy.
He had a long, successful career in government sales working for several different companies for over 40 years.
He was the husband of Norma Balaiga Soderstrom, father of Scott Cowan of Herndon, brother of Dean Soderstrom of Plano, Texas and Florence Woodlin of Norwalk, Conn. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren.
The family received friends Jan. 21 and the service was held the same day at Adams-Green Funeral Home in Herndon. Memorial contributions may be made to Parkinson's Disease Foundation, William Black Medical Research Building, 650 West 168th Street, New York, NY 10032 or Capital Hospice, 6565 Arlington Blvd., Suite 501, Falls Church, VA 22042.
